20 Years of Almost Killed Me
Let me quickly run through the biography.
Craig Finn, future leader of The Hold Steady, was THAT kid in school - neither the first to be picked for the sports team, nor the last. A bespectacled adolescent navigating the school corridors, aware that there’s an “in-crowd” and he’s on the outs.
He's the kid in-between - like most of us. Like me.
So what's the plan? How does he get from there to here?
Does he settle or does he aspire?
He does neither, he retreats into a world of books and music and becomes an expert in HIS field. He learns how to play guitar, becomes a fan of local Minneapolis bands like The Replacements and Husker Du, and, even though he's still a kid, he goes to see them at the "all ages hardcore matinee shows" in town.
Just a quick aside here but "hardcore matinee shows" sound like the most fun in the world - something to really build a day around. I'd basically vote for any political party that introduced them into the U.K.
But back to the story....
In his early '20s, Finn forms a band called Lifter Puller who are simultaneously pretty good but also not quite right. What works, spectacularly, is Finn's lyrics about drugs and the shady characters that surround them but "the not quite right" bit is the music - a sort of '80s inspired synth overdose that, at its worst, sounds like the soundtrack to a Brian De Palma movie and, at its best, sounds like the soundtrack to a Brian De Palma movie.
After a few albums, a modicum of success, Lifter Puller split up and Finn becomes a financial broker for American Express before moving to New York to get a job at a digital webcasting company. At this stage in Finn's life it would appear that his brief flirtation with a career in music had ended and he was now on a course for a series of jobs in tech and finance. In fact, he doesn't do anything related to music for two whole years. He's just the guy at work, the one who used to be in a band called Lifter Puller.
And then it happens.
Craig Finn is watching Martin Scorsese's The Last Waltz, the film of The Band's final concert, and he turns to his friend Tad Kubler, and says "Dude, why aren't there any bands like this anymore?"
Finn's observation is correct - there are no bands like that and I'm not sure there ever will be. But that's obvious, that's the bit we can all see. Even I've watched The Last Waltz and said to my mate Dan (I don't have a mate called Tad, I wish I did) - "Dude, why aren't there any bands like this anymore?"
No, what I love about this moment is what they did next. Finn and Kubler, there and then, decide to form a band like that. They took the completely mad decision in 2003, when everyone was still floored by that Neutral Milk Hotel album and everything it spawned, of creating a band with just guitar, bass, and drums.
They called themselves The Hold Steady and there wasn't a singing saw, a zanzithophone, or a wandering genie organ in sight.
What started out as an excuse for a bunch of guys in their '30s to hang out, drink, and play the occasional show, then becomes something of a going concern. Finn's lyrics, framed by Kubler's big riffs, created an unlikely breath of fresh air, a sense of celebration. Before long they're signed to Frenchkiss, the best name for a record label ever, and they release their first album - Almost Killed Me.
The album, in fact their career, opens with A Positive Jam, a song which tells the history of 20th Century America in 171 words. In the background, a lazy guitar struggles to wake up as the events are passed like road signs. It's their first song, on their first album, and after 90 seconds there's been a stock market crash, a World War, and 3 Kennedys are dead. The lyrical economy is remarkable, the way he deals with each decade precisely and definitively in one sentence.
This is how he nails the '50s -
"We got shiftless in the '50s, holding hands and going steady, twisting into dark parts of the large Midwestern cities"
No need for the white picket fence trope, no need for Ike or Truman to co-star. Post war America perfectly reduced to "Holding hands and going steady". And then The Twist tells you the ‘60s are coming. I got it straight away.
And this is how he nails the '70s -
"We woke up on bloody carpets, got tangled up in gas lines and I guess that's where it started"
He rhymed "carpets" with "started" and reduced the long term economic and political effects of the 1973 Oil Crisis to a line. What's not to like? I can still vividly remember my first listen now - the time, the place, and an album cover of blacked out faces. It was immediate. I was in.
And I didn't even know then what I know now, that he was providing context - that he was explicitly saying "We have shared history." Because at the end of the song, he brings us up to date, the guitar does wake up and the band kicks in. It's then that he tells us that he was bored so he started a band, it's then that he tells us that he wants to start it off with a positive jam.
The first time I heard Almost Killed Me I rewound the opening song again and again. I guess the "positive jam" that the song was trailing was The Swish, the second song on the album. But I couldn't get to it, I couldn't get past how good the opener was. I listened to it five times on the spin – by the time I was finished 15 Kennedys had died.
But then I did I get past it. I got to The Swish and my head fell off. Honestly, I stood there laughing, air riffing and dancing, in thrall to my new favourite band after just two songs. The bridge from A Positive Jam to The Swish is one of THE moments in music for me. It simultaneously comes out of nowhere yet evokes a memory. I made it through the rest of the album, breathless and giddy.
I'd never heard anything like it, despite having heard things like it.
Does that make sense? That bit really needs to make sense.
You know when The Sopranos came out and you thought "Jesus, not another story about Italian American Gangsters. Surely not THAT again." But then you watched it and saw that the characters were immersed in that culture as much as the viewer. They existed within their own context and couldn't move without referencing it.
And that was the difference. It was derivative but it was spun, from an angle so it wasn't head on.
That's The Hold Steady. That's Almost Killed Me.
It would be easy to say it's my favourite album of the 21st Century if only it didn't have to compete with what they did next - Separation Sunday, Boys and Girls in America and, finally, the hangover, Stay Positive. Finn had done it, with his friends they'd made one of the greatest runs of albums ever - an aggregate score of at least 36 out of 40.
At least.
Yes, there were comparisons to things you'd heard before, a familiarity, but for me it was almost entirely different. People screamed Springsteen, people screamed The E Street Band but I never really knew why. These weren't stories about open roads, about making love to the interstate. These were stories about the claustrophobia of community, about the kids in between - confined by drugs and religion. And you know what? Springsteen never swished through the city centre to do a couple of favours for some guys who looked like Tusken Raiders did he? No he didn't, he was probably driving somewhere.
The Hold Steady wore their influences on their sleeve but they spun them. They humoured them. They said "Tramps like us and we like Tramps" and told stories about people who looked like people - people who looked like Rocco Siffredi, Elisabeth Shue, Izzy Stradlin, Alice Cooper, Mickey Mantle, and, of course, Tusken Raiders. They were doing that thing again - they were saying "We know you know. Because we have shared history"
But this analysis, my attempt at explanation, is nothing compared to the visceral triumph and joy of a Hold Steady show - the pleasure of watching this band that had been plucked from their own lives and were creating anew. I used to spend hours looking at the bass player, I'd never seen anyone work so hard whilst standing still - a man who started the night dry and ended it dripping in sweat and smiles.
And then there was Finn - the inbetweener, the most generous of front men. He was always so warm and inclusive to his audience, so glad that they're there with him. Yet he never forgets the band. Never. And for someone so wordy it's remarkable the gaps he leaves for them - the gaps for them to play and for him to admire. Often he’d be clapping, dancing, and having so much fun in admiration, that I’d worry he’d forget to join in again – that he’d forget that the moment after the gaps were his.
But he never did.
Fast forward to 2014 - to the Holiday Inn, in Brighton, a few hours after a Hold Steady show.
I'd probably had my back to him for about 10 minutes, having a night cap at the hotel bar and thinking about what had come before. But then I turned around and there he was - Craig Finn, sitting alone, a hero rather than a star. I decided to say hello and he gestured for me to sit down. We talked about The Last Waltz. I asked him if it was true, whether that's really how it started, and he said it was. We talked about the rest of the film, all those conversations, you know where they go - Joni Mitchell and all her chords; Van Morrison and that ridiculous high kick. And somewhere in the drink and The Last Waltz I lost the memory of the night, other than to say he was good company and he paid his way.
And if I met him now?
If I met him now, I'd probably get lost down another rabbit hole - about how we're the same age and how I wasn't picked first for the sports team either. I'd ask him how he feels now, at 44, about the start he gave himself at 33 - whether that still surprises him, whether it ever did. Whether he knows, REALLY knows, that for about four years The Hold Steady were the best band in the world. But more than that I'd tell him about how HE influenced, how HE inspired, about how Ruth and I always used to say this album club was about spinning familiar stories, about telling them from an angle rather than head on - just like The Hold Steady.
Because that's what we used to say. When we wanted to avoid nostalgia and reheating the past , we used to say it should be "JUST LIKE THE HOLD STEADY".
And before I lost another evening, and its fluid memory, I'd like to take the opportunity to thank him for that.

Etsy Second Quarter 2023 Earnings Report - Get Ready For More Pressure To Discount
Above - Slide 9 from Etsy's Second Quarter 2023 report. © Etsy
Etsy's second quarter 2023 results beat projections, but the outlook for the third quarter was weak, and that has led to a sharp drop off of the stock. No doubt investors were unimpressed that Etsy has no convincing plans to begin increasing sales and profits again. The call announced nothing truly new in that vein.
First, the resources for this post:
the press release
transcript of the conference call
slides from the conference call
video of the call (click on “Webcast” under "Latest Quarterly Results")
my summaries of the second quarter 2022, and the first quarter 2023 for comparison
The basic numbers (covering April to June 2023, compared to the same period in 2022):
Sales on Etsy were $2.6 billion, down 0.7%
Total sales for all 4 marketplaces (Etsy, Reverb, Depop, Elo7) were $3.0 billion, down 0.6%
Etsy’s revenue (including all 4 sites) was $628.9 million, up 7.5%
Seller service revenue was up a whopping 20.8% to $175.9 million, while marketplace revenue was up 3.1% to $453 million
Net Income was $61.9 million, down 15.3% (in part due to the impairment charge from the impending sale of Elo7)
Active buyers on Etsy alone stand at 90.6 million, an all-time high
Active sellers on Etsy alone are 6.3 million, the second large jump in a row compared to the previous quarter; numbers had been stagnant through the end of 2021 and all of 2022 [Note that “active” means one charge or transaction in the past 12 months; many “active” shops currently have nothing for sale.]
Sales where the buyer and/or the seller was not in the United States were 47%, up from 44% last year, but most Etsy buyers are still in the US
Sales on mobile are now at 68%, up from 66% last year [this includes both the buyer app and mobile browsers]
I'll cover the points of the biggest interest to sellers below, with my comments in square brackets.
Advertising (On and Off Site)
Etsy Ads (the onsite ones) again helped increase the services income. CFO Rachel Glaser mentioned that "XWalk, our real time retrieval engine" was now a part of the Ads algorithm. [It was previously introduced in search results, to help draw connections between multiple sets of data rapidly as someone is searching.] They are now able to show ads in more places, increasing site profit.
Offsite Ads (aka performance marketing) cost roughly the same in the quarter, due to testing which led to Etsy reducing money spent on some platforms.
From the press release: "We expanded performance marketing investments from 13 to 20 non-core countries, now including the Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Poland, Portugal, Romania, and Slovakia."
Etsy Search
CEO Josh Silverman feels Etsy has made progress in search relevancy (Slide 6). Therefore, the next step is to "better identify the quality of each listing, so that from this relevant result set, we bring the very best of Etsy to the top. Our data shows that high quality listings attract a higher value buyer than our average listings, attract more repeat and habitual buyers, and most importantly, they often convert over 2 times better than other listings." No actual definition of "high quality listings" is provided. [This may be a refinement of the listing quality score.]
Etsy is training its machine learning software on "...a best of Etsy library, which is curated by expert merchandisers based on the visual appeal, uniqueness, and apparent craftsmanship of an item." (Slide 7) The models are then expected to find the best items out of large search results, and return those for searchers. [I hope these aren't the same human curators who supposedly selected the "Etsy's Pick" listings, as my only Etsy's Pick listing is a commercial pendant on my hand-cut chain. Totally Etsy-legal, and even appealing and well-made, but hardly unique - there are hundreds or maybe even thousands of these pendants on Etsy right now. (In my defense, there were a lot fewer when I started selling them.) Only my chain falls close to the realm of unique, due to the clasp.]
Etsy is also working on "collapsing" similar items on the first few search pages into sets, and offering shoppers several different sets to choose from, "showing you just the very best of each of a set of very different items". [I believe I have seen a test like this, where several rows of slightly different search results are shown for some queries. It could also mean an expansion of the "more like this" link under individual listings on the search page.]
[It appears to be time to accept that Etsy is not interested in being a site for niche searches any more; management only cares about the large searches converting. I understand what the engineers were trying to do with training the systems by adding more items in and letting the customers signal which results were good, but small and niche searches have only gotten worse over the past 3-4 years, and they've now effectively told us we can't expect any more improvement in this area. Search effort is now going to winnowing down large searches, not improving very small ones.]
Upcoming Promotional Plans & Focus
As usual, Etsy is focussed on retaining existing buyers as well as adding new ones. Hitting an all-time high in active buyers this quarter shows some progress in this area.
Given that "[t]here's no question this is a very promotional environment," we should expect to see more features around sales and discounts, as shown in Slide 9 at the top of this post. Those 3 boxes are part of a scrolling banner at the top of the Etsy home page in the US right now. [If you have tried to run a sale lately, you have already noticed that the lowest percentage off sale is 25%. You can enter a custom amount, but 25% is the default if you don't click for more options.]
They are already testing "a new price discovery functionality utilizing buyer demand data to help sellers think about how to price their items and when or how they might best use promotions as part of their mix." An example is shown in the top right corner of Slide 11 - see below:
[If this works as badly as the old tool from years ago - the one that compared hammered sterling silver pendants to plastic ones - then it will be a waste of time. And don't forget the tool that tells us our shipping for large heavy items is overpriced because it is comparing the listing to the shipping rates of the smallest items in the same category. The list goes on... However, many sellers would appreciate knowing more about what similar items are actually selling for, and it is possible Etsy heard that request, so we shouldn't write this test off before we see it.]
The new wedding registry has been doing well, with 14% of sales coming from first-time buyers. Etsy is opening a baby registry in August, and more categories may follow.
Silverman said that the Purchase Protection Program (PPP) "...reduced the issue resolution time for cases by approximately 85%". [I guess when there are rarely humans involved in adjudicating cases, that does tend to save time.] The site will soon mention this in even more places, to increase buyer confidence and bring them back more often.
Also on the way: "Buyers will see some new AI assisted ways to find crafted quality gifts for the loved ones at great value with even more confidence that these gifts will arrive on time." Gifting will continue to be a promotional focus.
Payment Reserves
Following the recent media attention to payment reserves, one analyst asked what the policy was meant to do in terms of benefiting the marketplace, and how the company is addressing the complaints. Silverman fell back on the "sellers not able to fill a rush of sales" example [even though that hasn't been the main reason for most of the recent reserves], and mentioned the previous day's announcement that reserves would be changing.
Depop, Reverb, and the Exit of Elo7
Etsy is selling Elo7, and is apparently taking a loss on it.
Depop's sales and revenue grew this quarter (year over year); new ideas and developments are detailed on Slide 16.
Reverb is still doing better than the general musical instrument market; details on Slide 17.
Miscellaneous
sales were down this quarter due to the month of April; May and June were both up, as was July [so the third quarter is up so far, but they noted the company traditionally has lower sales in August and September]. Silverman stated that the economy is in a down cycle, but that cycles change.
sales are declining in United States zip codes where the average household income is below $100,000 a year, and are growing in the zips above $100K a year.
the increase in marketplace revenue was partially due to having more non-US transactions, which usually have higher payment processing fees charged.
"advances in ML capabilities have enabled our enforcement models to detect an increasing number of policy violations." Slide 10 states they've "...removed 29% more listings for violating our Handmade Policy in 1H 2023 vs. 2H 2022". It's not clear if this includes all the ones they removed in error and later had to reinstate. [It's not just handmade takedowns that were mostly wrong. They caught my 2 "drug paraphernalia" listings earlier this year, as well as many top selling item from big shops, for no reason. As I explained in my coverage of the annual transparency report, only 5% of items Etsy reviews for violations actually need to be removed from the site. Increasing takedowns is a bad thing when they are almost all wrong, and especially when real and easy-to-find violations - such as boxes of commercial potato chip packages and actual roach clips - remain up. This initiative continues to get an F.]
almost 20% of vintage shops are choosing to use the new "Make an Offer" option.
Why Etsy Needs To Do More To Impress Investors
If you watch or read these calls every quarter, or even just read my summaries, you will note that there was very little new here, and certainly not much new that one would expect to substantially increase sales across the site. I think the upper brass recognized that, as the "challenging" times were stressed repeatedly, and they are still occasionally comparing numbers to the pre-pandemic stats.
Yes, it is great that Etsy has basically retained all of its pandemic growth; many other platforms - such as Wayfair and eBay - did not. However, analysts seem to be over that now, and are looking to future growth. Etsy's response seems to be that any substantial increase in marketplace sales will have to wait until the current uncertain world economic cycle improves. While they talk about incremental increases in sales expected from some current projects, their own projections for the third quarter aren't reflecting that growth, given Etsy now has more active buyers and sellers than ever before.
Have they possibly lost too many successful shops due to overreaching with payment reserves? Are buyers expressing concerns on that topic? Now that many more sellers can opt out of Offsite Ads, is that dragging down the company's income at all? Are they truly out of new ideas? These are questions that the analysts and the media need to be asking.
Perhaps Etsy is planning on another release that will lift marketplace sales, but right now they are keeping it secret. The company probably can't afford to wait on this much longer, though, if it cares about the stock price.

Selecting the Right Online Training Platform for Your Business.
Employee training and development is a crucial concern in today's dynamic business environment. With an increasing number of organizations adopting online training platforms to reskill their staffs, choosing the right platform can be quite a task. With so many options available, it’s important to make an informed decision that aligns with your business goals, employee needs, and budget. Here’s a guide on how to choose the best online training platform for your business:.
1. Identify Your Business Goals and Training Needs
Before choosing an online training platform, identify the training needs of your enterprise and staff. Consider the following:
- Skill gaps: What specific skills or knowledge are your employees lacking? Are you focused on soft skills, technical training, compliance, leadership development, or industry-specific certifications?
- Objectives: What I'm trying to achieve is to push the boundaries of productivity, deliver better customer service, or promote a higher level of employee engagement. Getting specific goals will narrow platform choices down to those that fit your goals.
- Audience: Consider the size of your workforce, geographical distribution, and the skill level of employees. Tailor your platform choice to fit these variables.
2. Evaluate User Experience and Interface
A good platform can have a great impact on the success of an online course. A complex or cumbersome interface can result in frustration, poor engagement and low completion. Look for the following in a platform:
- Ease of navigation: The platform should be user-friendly with easy-to-locate training modules and resources.
- Customization options: It shall be also enabled to customize the interface and incorporate logo, design content that is relevant to your employees.
- Mobile-friendliness: With workers operating from remote or mobile locations, a mobile-responsive platform is an absolute requirement to ensure flexibility and accessibility.
3. Assess Content Quality and Variety
Training content on the platform should be interesting, current, and apply to your business. Here’s what to look for:
- Variety of content: The ideal platforms provide a variety of content formats, such as video lectures, quizzes, live webcasts, and downloadable etc.
- Content quality: Verify that the platform contains content developed by industry experts and experts in the field, and that the training materials are credible and helpful.
- Course catalog: When you envisage providing more than one training program, watch out for provision of a wide range of training courses within a platform (i.e., has a course library), or a platform where you are able to upload your own training material.
4. Consider Integration with Existing Tools
To streamline processes and ensure smooth training management, the platform should seamlessly integrate with other tools you’re using. Consider the following:
- Learning Management System (LMS): If you already have an LMS, ensure the training platform can integrate with it to track progress, generate reports, and assign courses to employees.
- HR tools: The ability to interface with your HR or performance software can facilitate automatic enrollment, progress monitoring, and analytics.
- Collaboration tools: Platforms that are integrated with team communication platforms, such as Slack or Microsoft Teams, can foster social learning and working/collaboration.
5. Focus on Scalability
As your business grows, your training needs will evolve. Select a platform that has the scalability potential as your organization grows, while providing a scalable pricing model, expansion of users, and ability to customize the platform.
- Flexible pricing: On certain platforms, usage is charged according to number of users/volume of content. Select a platform that scales easily without incurring expensive costs as your business grows.
- Multi-department or multi-location support: When you run in multiple regions or multiple departments, ensure the platform can accommodate multiple users, multiple languages, and multiple geographic locations.
- Customization for various learning needs: As employees develop and grow, the training platform should be able to support advanced courses and specialized training to cater to their evolving needs.
6. Check Analytics and Reporting Capabilities
A powerful analytics and reporting system is essential for tracking the success of your training programs. Look for the following features:
- Progress tracking: Just make sure that it is easy to monitor employee performance and record course completion, scores, and participation.
- Customizable reports: Select a platform with ability to customize reports so that you can extract insights relevant to the goals of your business, e.g., skill development, productivity enhancement, etc.
- Data-driven decision-making: The platform should offer actionable insights that help you identify training gaps, track ROI, and optimize future training strategies.
7. Evaluate Customer Support and Training
Stable customer support can be very helpful, particularly if you have problems deploying or utilizing the platform. Look for the following:
- 24/7 support: That the platform offer 24/7 support to solve technical problems or questions.
- Onboarding and training: A good platform. should provide onboarding support and materials to enable your team to up and running quickly.
- Customer success team: Some platforms offer dedicated support teams that help optimize your training strategy and provide guidance on platform usage.
8. Consider Security and Compliance
Security is an important issue when handling confidential corporate information or personnel information. Verify the security of the platform to confirm that your data is protected, e.g.
- Data encryption: The platform should securely encrypt data during transmission and storage.
- Compliance standards: Check if the platform complies with relevant industry standards and regulations, such as GDPR, HIPAA, or SOC 2.
- User authentication: Platforms should provide strong user authentication capabilities such as, Single Sign-On (SSO) or two-factor authentication (2FA) to allow secure access.
9. Request a Trial or Demo
Before making a final decision, request a free trial or demo of the platform. This will give you the chance to:
- Explore the platform’s features.
- Evaluate how user-friendly and effective it is.
- Test the integration with your systems.
Obtain feedback from staff on ease of use and the level of engagement.
10. Review Pricing and Value for Money
Pricing should align with your training goals and budget. Though you may be lured by cost-effective solutions, don't cut corners on core functionality which is going to help your organization out in the long-term. Consider:
- Subscription models: Compare pricing plans, including monthly, yearly, or per-user subscriptions.
- Hidden costs: There shall be no surreptitious charges for people, upload or features beyond basic functionality.
- Return on investment (ROI): Think about the value you’ll receive from the platform in terms of employee development, productivity, and retention.
Conclusion

The Top benefits of online CLAT coaching: What You Should Consider When You Think About It
The preparation to take an exam like the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a difficult job. The exam is highly competitive and requires dedication as well as strategic planning and a thorough understanding. For a long time, students used coaching sessions in person to help prepare them for the test. With the development of technology and the changing education paradigms, the online coaching model has become a popular option for many. This article outlines the best benefits of online coaching for CLAT and explains why you should think about it, particularly if you're searching for CLAT online training in Hyderabad.
The Best Benefits of Online Coaching of CLAT
Flexibility and Convenience
One of the major benefits of CAT's web-based coaching is the freedom that it provides. In contrast to traditional coaching facilities with fixed hours, online coaching permits students to study at their own pace and in their own time. No matter if you're a high-school student trying to balance classes and CLAT preparation or an active professional looking to pursue a law career, online training for CLAT allows you to manage your time efficiently.
Access to Faculty Experts
Online coaching platforms typically have experienced and competent instructors who are specialists in their field. They are able to bring their knowledge and expertise into their teaching, which ensures that you receive the highest guidance you can get. Many of these professionals have passed competitive exams and are aware of what is required to achieve success. Access to these experts will significantly improve your strategy for preparation.
Comprehensive Study Material
If you decide to take the CLAT coaching online, you will have access to an array of study tools, such as videos, e-books, exams, and practice tests. They are designed to provide the complete syllabus and are regularly up-to-date to reflect the most recent examination patterns and trends. Furthermore, online platforms offer easy access to these resources at any time and from anywhere, which makes it much easier to review and practice according to your timetable.
Interactive Learning Experience
Coaching online for CLAT isn't just about learning passively; it gives you learners an engaging learning environment. A lot of platforms offer webcasts, live courses and interactive sessions in which you can ask questions and have answers in real-time. Chat groups and discussion forums are also a great way to interact with peers that allow you to exchange ideas and collaborate to learn. This type of interaction makes learning more fun and effective.
Individualized Care
One of the disadvantages of conventional coaching facilities is the huge batches, which can occasionally result in a lack of individual attention. However numerous coaching platforms online offer customized guidance and doubt-solving sessions. It is possible to schedule one-on-one sessions with coaches to discuss particular issues and receive individualized advice in line with what you are good at and your weak points. This approach is individualized and can greatly increase your confidence and improve your performance.
Cost-Effectiveness
Online coaching is typically cheaper than traditional coaching facilities. It can save you money on transportation costs, hotel expenses (if you're thinking of moving to a new city to teach) as well as other costs. Furthermore the majority of CLAT online coaching programs provide a variety of price plans, discounts and even scholarships, making it more affordable for a wide selection of students. The cost-effectiveness, coupled with the high quality of instruction, makes online coaching an appealing choice.
Time Management
A well-organized time management system is essential in the preparation for CLAT. Online coaching can help to organize your time better and eliminate the need to commute. The time you save can be used for additional studying time, self-assessment and even relaxation, providing an unwinding and relaxed study time. Furthermore, many online platforms offer structured study plans and schedules that can ensure you are on the right course and learn the syllabus thoroughly.
Technological Advancements
Online coaching makes use of the most recent technological advances to enhance your learning experience. Tools such as AI-driven analytics performance monitoring or adaptive learning programs assist you in determining areas of strength and weakness, as well as track your progress and modify your learning plan to suit your needs. These technology tools offer valuable insights that allow you to improve your strategy for preparation.
You can access Mock Tests as well as Practice Papers
It is essential to practice for the CLAT. Online coaching platforms give you access to mock exams and test papers. These tests mimic the examination environment, helping you learn the exam format, including time management, exam format, and the types of questions. Regular practice using mock tests can greatly improve your speed as well as accuracy and confidence. A lot of platforms offer detailed assessments of performance as well as feedback that can aid you in identifying areas of improvement.
Global Learning Community
If you sign up for an online program for coaching, you'll be part of a worldwide learning community. This group of students comes from various parts of the world and even from abroad and all working towards the same objective. Being part of this diverse group will help you expand your perspective, offer new learning opportunities, and keep you determined and focused on the journey of preparation.
The Online CLAT Coach in Hyderabad
For students from Hyderabad, online CLAT coaching is a distinct benefit. Hyderabad has a lot of students who want to become lawyers. The demand for high-quality CLAT coaching is very high. Online coaching gives the opportunity to access top-quality teachers and other resources that may not be accessible locally. No matter if you're in the middle cities or suburbs, you may be able to take advantage of the most effective coaching online without having to travel long distances or move.
Conclusion
In conclusion, CLAT online coaching provides numerous benefits that will enhance the preparation process. The flexibility, accessibility to a knowledgeable faculty, extensive study materials, personal attention, affordability, and advancements in technology make online coaching an appealing option. For students, the online CLAT coaching in Hyderabad offers the chance to get a top-quality education and realize their law school goals in the comfort of their homes. Unsafe Design? Experts Raise Concerns about Tesla Cybertruck - Technology Org
The safety of Tesla’s Cybertruck is raising concerns among experts due to its angular design that features sharp edges and stiff stainless-steel exoskeleton structure which is most likely not compatible with the latest trends in automotive safety.

Six safety professors and officials, who analyzed crash test videos presented during a webcast delivery event, expressed worries about potential harm to pedestrians, cyclists, and other vehicles on the road, Reuters wrote in a recently published article.
Despite discussions on social media regarding the live-streamed crash test videos on November 30, experts emphasized the need for comprehensive crash-test data to draw definitive conclusions about the vehicle’s safety.
Previously, regulatory authorities were unimpressed by Elon Musk’s statements about the car’s ‘waterproof’ rating.
“The big problem there is if they really make the skin of the vehicle very stiff by using thick stainless steel, then when people hit their heads on it, it’s going to cause more damage to them,” explained Adrian Lund, the former president of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the organization responsible for an industry-standard for vehicle crash tests.
Previously, Tesla highlighted the Cybertruck’s structural elements designed to absorb impact during crashes. Tesla CEO Elon Musk said he was confident in the Cybertruck’s safety, claiming it would be safer for both occupants and pedestrians than other vehicles of the same class.
The vehicle’s unique design features flat planes and long, linear edges, making it visually distinct. It is the first car with a stainless-steel exterior since the introduction of the DeLorean car in 1985’s “Back to the Future.” Musk mentioned that the material’s toughness even caused the stamping machine to break while forming the panels.

Business Cycles Indicators (BCI) Methodology
As of my last knowledge update in September 2021, there isn't a widely recognized "Business Cycles Indicators (BCI)" methodology specifically associated with any well-known organization or standard in the field of economics or business analysis. However, I can provide a general overview of how business cycle indicators are typically constructed and used. Please note that there may have been developments or specific methodologies introduced after my last update.
Business cycle indicators are statistical measures and economic data points used to monitor and analyze the fluctuations of the business cycle. The business cycle typically goes through four phases: expansion, peak, contraction (recession), and trough. Here is a general methodology for constructing and using business cycle indicators:
Data Collection:
Economic data is collected from various sources, including government agencies, financial institutions, research organizations, and surveys.
Data points often include GDP (Gross Domestic Product), employment figures, industrial production, retail sales, housing starts, and more.
Data Analysis:
Historical data is analyzed to identify patterns and trends in the economy over time.
Statistical techniques, such as moving averages or trend analysis, may be used to smooth out short-term fluctuations and highlight long-term trends.
Construction of Composite Indicators:
Business cycle indicators are often composite measures, meaning they combine multiple economic variables to create a more comprehensive view of the economy's current state.
Weightings are assigned to each component based on their perceived importance in signaling economic conditions.
Reference Points:
Reference points or thresholds are established to define the different phases of the business cycle. For example, a certain percentage decline in GDP might signal the start of a recession.
These reference points are used to determine when the economy has moved from one phase of the cycle to another.
Monitoring and Forecasting:
Business cycle indicators are monitored regularly to assess the current phase of the cycle and to make forecasts about future economic conditions.
Analysts and policymakers use these indicators to make informed decisions about monetary policy, fiscal policy, and investment strategies.
Dissemination and Reporting:
The results of business cycle indicator analysis are often published and made available to the public, financial markets, and policymakers.
This information helps businesses and individuals plan for economic fluctuations and make adjustments to their strategies accordingly.
It's important to note that the specific methodology for constructing business cycle indicators can vary among different organizations and research institutions. Different indicators may also focus on different aspects of the economy, such as leading indicators that provide early warnings of changes in economic conditions, or lagging indicators that confirm trends that have already occurred.
If you are looking for a particular organization's methodology related to Business Cycles Indicators (BCI), I would recommend visiting the official website of that organization or referring to their publications and research reports for detailed information on their specific methodology and data sources.
Index of Leading Indicators Methodology
The Index of Leading Economic Indicators (LEI) is a widely recognized economic indicator used to predict future economic trends. It is composed of several individual components or leading indicators that are carefully selected and weighted to provide insights into the likely direction of the economy. While the specific methodology for constructing the LEI can vary slightly depending on the organization or institution creating it, here is a general overview of the methodology typically employed:
Selection of Leading Indicators:
Economists and analysts identify a set of individual economic indicators that have historically shown the ability to lead changes in the overall economy.
Common leading indicators often include components like:
Average weekly hours worked in manufacturing: A decrease in hours worked can indicate a potential economic downturn.
Initial claims for unemployment benefits: A rising number of initial jobless claims can suggest economic stress.
Building permits for new private housing units: An increase in building permits can signal future economic growth.
Stock prices: Rising stock prices may indicate investor confidence in the economy.
Consumer expectations: Surveys of consumer sentiment can provide insights into future consumer spending.
Data Collection:
Data for each of the selected leading indicators is collected on a regular basis from various government agencies, industry sources, and surveys.
The data collected typically covers a range of industries and sectors of the economy.
Normalization and Weighting:
Each leading indicator is typically normalized to account for differences in scale and significance.
Economists assign weights to each indicator based on its historical reliability and its importance in signaling changes in the business cycle.
The weights reflect the relative influence of each indicator in the composite index.
Computation of the Composite Index:
The composite index is created by aggregating the individual leading indicators, using the assigned weights for each.
This aggregation results in a single value for the LEI, which represents the overall direction of the economy.
Changes in the composite index over time are analyzed to identify trends and turning points in the business cycle.
Thresholds and Reference Points:
Economists often establish thresholds or reference points for the LEI to indicate various phases of the business cycle, such as expansion, peak, contraction (recession), and trough.
Crossing these thresholds may be used as signals for shifts in the economic cycle.
Publication and Analysis:
The LEI, along with its components, is regularly published and made available to the public, policymakers, financial markets, and economists.
Analysts and policymakers use the LEI to make forecasts about the future direction of the economy and to inform decision-making.
It's important to note that different organizations and institutions may use variations of this methodology to construct their own versions of the Leading Economic Indicators Index. Additionally, the specific set of indicators and their weights may be adjusted over time based on changes in economic conditions and data availability. The LEI serves as a valuable tool for assessing the economic outlook and predicting potential changes in the business cycle.
Index of Coincident Indicators Methodology
The Index of Coincident Economic Indicators (CEI) is another important economic indicator used to gauge the current state of the economy. It differs from the Leading Economic Indicators (LEI), which focus on predicting future economic trends. The CEI is designed to provide insights into the economy's current conditions. Here's an overview of the methodology typically used to construct the Index of Coincident Economic Indicators:
Selection of Coincident Indicators:
Economists and analysts identify a set of individual economic indicators that are known to move in tandem with overall economic activity.
Coincident indicators typically include components such as:
Nonfarm payroll employment: The total number of nonfarm jobs in the economy.
Industrial production: The output of the manufacturing, mining, and utilities sectors.
Real (inflation-adjusted) personal income: The income received by individuals, adjusted for inflation.
Real (inflation-adjusted) retail sales: Sales of consumer goods and services, adjusted for inflation.
Data Collection:
Data for each of the selected coincident indicators is collected regularly from various government agencies, industry sources, and surveys.
The data typically covers a wide range of industries and sectors of the economy.
Normalization and Weighting:
Each coincident indicator may be normalized to account for differences in scale and significance.
Economists assign weights to each indicator based on its historical relationship with overall economic activity.
The weights reflect the relative importance of each indicator in reflecting the current state of the economy.
Computation of the Composite Index:
The composite CEI is created by aggregating the individual coincident indicators, using the assigned weights for each.
This aggregation results in a single value for the CEI, which represents the current state of the economy.
Thresholds and Reference Points:
Economists often establish thresholds or reference points for the CEI to indicate various phases of the business cycle, such as expansion, peak, contraction (recession), and trough.
Crossing these thresholds may be used as signals for shifts in the current economic cycle.
Publication and Analysis:
The CEI, along with its components, is regularly published and made available to the public, policymakers, financial markets, and economists.
Analysts use the CEI to assess the current economic conditions and the health of the economy.
The Index of Coincident Economic Indicators is a valuable tool for policymakers and analysts to understand the current state of the economy. It provides a snapshot of economic conditions by summarizing the performance of key indicators that move in sync with the overall economy. Similar to the Leading Economic Indicators (LEI), the specific set of indicators and their weights may be adjusted over time based on changes in economic conditions and data availability.
Index of Lagging Indicators Methodology
The Index of Lagging Economic Indicators (LEI) is another essential economic indicator used to assess the historical trends in the economy. Unlike Leading Economic Indicators (LEI), which predict future economic conditions, and Coincident Economic Indicators (CEI), which reflect current economic conditions, Lagging Economic Indicators provide insights into past economic performance. Here's an overview of the methodology typically used to construct the Index of Lagging Economic Indicators:
Selection of Lagging Indicators:
Economists and analysts identify a set of individual economic indicators that tend to follow overall economic activity and are reflective of past economic performance.
Common lagging indicators often include components such as:
Average duration of unemployment: The length of time individuals remain unemployed.
Commercial and industrial loans: The amount of loans issued by commercial banks.
Consumer credit: Outstanding credit card and other consumer loan balances.
Labor cost per unit of output: Measures of labor productivity.
Inventories to sales ratio: Reflects the relationship between inventories and sales in various industries.
Data Collection:
Data for each of the selected lagging indicators is collected regularly from various government agencies, financial institutions, and industry sources.
The data typically covers a broad spectrum of industries and sectors of the economy.
Normalization and Weighting:
Each lagging indicator may be normalized to account for differences in scale and significance.
Economists assign weights to each indicator based on its historical relationship with past economic performance.
The weights reflect the relative importance of each indicator in reflecting past economic conditions.
Computation of the Composite Index:
The composite LEI is created by aggregating the individual lagging indicators, using the assigned weights for each.
This aggregation results in a single value for the LEI, which represents the historical performance of the economy.
Thresholds and Reference Points:
Economists often establish thresholds or reference points for the LEI to indicate various phases of the business cycle, such as periods of economic expansion or contraction.
Crossing these thresholds may be used as signals for shifts in the historical economic cycle.
Publication and Analysis:
The LEI, along with its components, is regularly published and made available to the public, policymakers, financial markets, and economists.
Analysts use the LEI to assess the historical performance of the economy and identify trends that have already occurred.
The Index of Lagging Economic Indicators serves as a valuable tool for understanding the recent historical performance of the economy. It provides insights into how various indicators have behaved in the past and can help economists and policymakers gauge the impact of past economic events or policy decisions. As with other economic indicators, the specific set of lagging indicators and their weights may be adjusted over time based on changes in economic conditions and data availability.
