Tinuy-an Falls is located in Bislig, Surigao del Sur which is the southern island of Mindanao. Tinuy-an Falls is a multi-level falls which are 55 metres or 180 ft high and 55 metres wide and is considered as the widest waterfall in the country. What makes the place magical is the presence of a rainbow each morning between 9am to 11am.
When You Should Go
You can go anytime your schedule permits because the place will still be lovely and it’s always open to the public except during typhoons of course.
How To Get There
Book a flight to Davao City and once you get there, aboard a 6-hour bus headed to Mangagoy which is in the middle of Bisilig City. When you get there, you should take the habal habal ride to the falls which will take roughly 30 minutes.

What You Need To Wear And What You Should Bring
Every time you go to a place that is surrounded by water, use water proof bag to take care of your belongings. Bring enough change of clothes and towels that are lightweight so it will be easier to pack. You can also wear proper and waterproof shoes for your journey. As always don’t forget to bring snacks and water and maybe iPod or a pocket book if you plan to stay the whole day and enjoy a relaxing afternoon.
What You Will Experience
Tinuy-an Falls is hailed as the Niagara Falls of the Philippines and while Niagara Falls is wider than our very own, it certainly has its own charm thanks to the eye-catching green façade of the surroundings. If you’re a nature lover then Tinuy-an Falls will set your heart on fire because despite having many visitors all year round, you will see that they keep the area clean and the trees and other plants that surround the area are healthy making the air fresher.
Things To Do
There are trails in the area that you could check and if you are with friends and/or family, this is the best way to enjoy each other’s company while examining your surroundings and look for other signs of wildlife. You can go swimming and enjoy a water therapy massage thanks to the pressure of the falls then have a picnic and then go swimming again or go rafting. This is your chance to enjoy a full day of bliss so make the most out of it.
If you’re going picnic, bring foods that are dry to avoid rotting. Foods like fried chicken, lumpia, fried siomai, cheese sandwich and dry desserts like brownies and caramel bars are safe to pack. Just don’t forget to bring your trash with you as you leave.
And the best way to experience Tinuy-an Falls is to allot a few hours to lazily lie at the riverbank and just think of nothing but the peaceful ambiance of the place.

Other Tips
You can also ride the habal habal from Tinuy-an Falls to go to Hinatuan Enchanted River which will take about 2 hours. The river is very popular these days to tourists especially because of its clear blue water which allows you to see the bottom from the river bank.

It got its nickname “enchanted river” from diplomat Modesto Farolan who named his poem “Rio Encantado” in honor of the majestic place.
Going to these two is the perfect combo travel for water lovers.
