K2 Body Recovery   Bodies have been found on 26th July. Ali and John by Sherpas from @madisonmtng during fixing ropes and JP by Valentyn Sypavin @valiksypavin. The bodies were located in different places: Ali and John were found above Bottleneck, at about 8300m. They were still connected to fixed ropes, one by rappel device and the other by carabiner, without oxygen masks and bottles, some think this means they died during descent. JP was found about 20mins from C4 (on photos location is estimated as 20mins from C4)   Reason for death unknown. Some think because bodies were found in different locations, on the correct route between C4 and Summit we can rule out a tragic accident such as avalanche, fall or broken ropes. I'm not totally convinced, why was JP so far down from the others, in an avalanche debris field? Did he leave the other two early and return to the tent and get lost in bad weather, or did he get avalanched down? More evidence would be needed to rule out avalanche in the bottleneck. Maybe one climber became incapacitated up high, one decided to stay near, and the other went to c4 to stage rescue? Maybe they all started climbing/descending separately, and all stopped and froze at different points on descent? It seems as though the two above the bottleneck were on descent because of their locations and rappel device on rope.   Did they summit? The team managed to retrieve Snorri's GoPro camera, Garmin and phone, they are being analyzed. But with all due respect, does it matter if they made the summit? They're all deceased. Was it worth it? 🗣️📢 Latest Update from K2 Camp 4 ⛑️🏔️🇵🇰 Bodies of Pakistani mountaineer Ali Sadpara, Iceland’s John Snorri and Chile’s Juan Pablo Mohr have been found, confirmed Gilgit Baltistan Information Minister Fateh Ullah Khan to Geo News on Monday. Sajid Sadpara, along with Canadian filmmaker Elia Saikaly and Pasang Kaji Sherpa, is summitting the K2 to find the bodies of his father and his companions Snorri, and Mohr. The mountaineers had gone missing on February 5 and were declared dead a few days later after their bodies were not found and the rescue mission was called off. The team had reached Camp 4 this morning and flew a drone around the area in search of the bodies, sources said. Through the drone, the team was able to detect a body above Camp 4 near the bottleneck. A message from Saikaly said that Sajid Sadpara has buried Juan Pablo and that his father's body is located above the bottleneck. "Sajid just buried Juan Pablo. His father Ali is just above the bottleneck. We will go up again tonight," said the Canadian filmmaker at 6:59pm. A minute later, Saikaly sent an SOS message for more oxygen as the team was running low on it. "If anyone can help us get more oxygen, anyone from Pakistan with influence, people at Base Camp leaving, we could use your help. Running low," said the Canadian. I’m in Pakistan and headed to K2 with Sajid Sadpara to search for his father, Ali Sadpara and our dear friend John Snorri. The truth is: I just couldn’t do nothing. These are our friends. These were our teammates. We were making a film about their winter ascent. We were supposed to be with them the night they disappeared with JP Moer and we are likely alive because fate intervened as an oxygen mix-up forced PK and I back just below camp 3. Ali, JP Mohr and John never returned. Sajid survived. While climbing Everest this spring, I obsessively sought out support to finish our film and honor our friends, yet in the end, we failed to gain financial support, as did Sajid. Unwilling to quit, in the last two weeks, our tiny unit pulled off a miracle and today, a very grown-up Sajid launched the project in the Pakistani press. @sherpapk will be with us as will Fazal Ali, Mosin, Aziz and the cooking staff from the winter ascent. Asghar from @jasminetourspakistan helped us pull it all together at the 11th hour. PK Sherpa moved mountains in Nepal to ensure we have all that we need. 👉🥰 Story of K2 Winter Summit Expedition 2021🇵🇰🇳🇵🏔️ Part 1️⃣:- Kathmandu to Ashkoli, Pakistan *********************************** On 6th Dec2020, we flew to Qatar and then to Pakistan on 7th Dec morning. We received the climbing permit from Pakistan Alpine Club and we were ready to fly on 8th to Skardu but because of weather we couldn’t fly. There wasno scheduled flight to Skardu on 9th so we fixed an appointment with the Nepal Embassy in Pakistan. K2 in winter was the biggest and hardest project so anything could happen. We had the pleasure to meet our new Ambassador to Pakistan, Excellency Topas Adhikari because it was necessary to inform them regarding our project and they are our guardian in Pakistan to celebrate oursuccess and help us in our difficulty.  On10th Dec, we flew to Skardu and spent two days there. 🏔️🏔️K2 Bottle neck🏔️🏔️ The most dangerous part of K2 for climber The Bottleneck is a narrow couloir, which is overhung by seracs from the ice field east of the summit. The couloir is located only 400 m (1,300 ft) below the summit, and climbers have to traverse about 100 m (330 ft) exposed to the seracs to pass it. Due to the height of 8,200 m (26,900 ft), and the steepness of 50 to 60 degrees, this stretch is the most dangerous part of the route.[1] According to AdventureStats, 13 out of the last 14 fatalities on K2 have occurred at or near the Bottleneck.[2][better source needed] Despite all the dangers, the Bottleneck is still technically the easiest and the fastest route to the summit. Most climbers choose to use it to minimize time required to spend above 8,000 m (26,000 ft) (the "death zone"). The standard route, the Abruzzi Spur (SE), as well as the Cesen route (SSE Ridge, which joins SE Ridge), and the American variety on the NE Ridge (traverse across E Face to SE Ridge), all attain the summit via the Bottleneck. The climbers approaching the Bottleneck start from a shoulder, on almost level ground just below 8000 m, where typically the highest camp is located. The bottom end of the couloir drops to the south face of the mountain, and it gradually steepens to 60 degrees just below the ice field. It is not possible to climb up the icefield, which rises straight up tens of metres, but one has to traverse leftwards at the bottom of the icefield 100 m (330 ft) until it is possible to pass the icefield.
