"Ufufu... I wonder how he'll react..."
These days, there's nothing more fun for Ryusei than picking on Chifuyu. There's nothing malicious in his teasing, or at least, it's not like he intends to genuinely hurt him, but his reactions are just too priceless... ahhh, what a wonderful way to pass the time!
But his daydreaming comes to an end as he spots a girl he doesn't recognize. He's pretty sure she's not from his school - she's not wearing the uniform, anyway - but it immediately catches his attention that she's looking a little worse for wear. ...Did she get jumped by a delinquent or something?
After considering his options for a moment, Ryusei decides to go see if she's alright.

RECS: Want to Watch Old Anime? Discotek Has You Covered
Every anime season brings a new roster of hits, but the shows of the past recede into the distance. Certainly, there are some exceptions and niche fans keep the spirit of ongoing series like Gundam alive. But with the continued emphasis on new and exciting anime, it’s tempting to forget the multitude of great shows and movies that already exist.   The Discotek label has fought consistently over the past several years to ensure that anime’s past is preserved. Run by industry stalwarts, they’ve done the impossible time and time again: they tracked down the masters of cult OVA Project A-Ko, painstakingly restored the 2001 remake of Cyborg 009: The Cyborg Soldier from thousands of damaged tapes, and much of their best stuff is now available for streaming.
  If you’re looking for something a little different or simply looking for a new show to watch, why not travel back into anime’s past? Here are some great TV series and movies as enjoyable today as they were when they were produced.
  These are just my own recommendations, picked from the great sea of Discotek titles. But if you want to explore further, and check out titles including real-life inspiration on Yoko Taro, Sister Princess, you can find their shared Crunchyroll catalog list here.
  Note: The titles listed are largely only available in the United States and Canada.
  Movie Night
  Urusei Yatsura Movie 2: Beautiful Dreamer

    One of the best-known anime directors ever, Mamoru Oshii first made his mark with an outrageously popular animated sitcom: Urusei Yatsura, the series that put the queen of romantic comedy manga Rumiko Takahashi on the map. Oshii struck a balance throughout the TV series between hilarious comedy and experimentation, but it was in the second Urusei Yatsura film, Beautiful Dreamer, that he really went all out. This surreal time loop story keeps finding new ways to defy audience expectations throughout its runtime both as an atypical Urusei Yatsura tale as well as a sterling example of just how imaginative and ground-breaking the Urusei Yatsura anime could be at its best.
  GoShogun: The Time Etranger

    GoShogun: The Time Etranger is that classic anime standby: a film completely different in tone and content than the franchise that spawned it. Released four years after the original 1981 super robot series, The Time Etranger spends much of its runtime focused on the dreams and anxieties of sole female cast member Remy as she lies in a coma at the hospital. Examining “what happens after” a final super robot fight, it remains an enjoyable film with smarter writing than you’d expect.  The Time Etranger is also a notable favorite of the great 80sanime Tumblr.
  Night on the Galactic Railroad

    Kenji Miyazawa’s novel Night on the Galactic Railroad might be best known to English-speaking audiences as a reference point for anime like Mawaru Penguindrum and Galaxy Express 999, but in truth, it’s one of the most beloved Japanese children’s stories ever written. An anime film adaptation was released in 1985, directed by the famed Gisaburo Sugii and scored by Yellow Magic Orchestra member Haruomi Hosono. Also, the characters are all drawn as cats! While slow-paced, it’s a strong adaptation that captures the charming and whimsical spirit of the original novel.

    Folks talk up director Yoshiyuki Tomino as the key creative force behind the original Gundam. But don’t forget Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, the talented character designer behind both Mobile Suit Gundam and Zeta Gundam. His most personal anime project is Giant Gorg, the story of a young boy who stumbles across a giant robot on a mysterious island. Rather than a Gundam-style war narrative, Giant Gorg is a proper adventure story in which the young cast spring from cliffhanger to cliffhanger. A white whale in American anime fandom for years, it was finally licensed for distribution in the United States in 2015. Don’t forget this fantastic mash-up between the Giant Gorg OP and the Perfect Strangers theme!

    Mazinger Edition Z

    In Mazinger Edition Z, cult-favorite director Yasuhiro Imagawa reimagines Go Nagai’s classic robot series to create a unified setting packed with pulpy thrills and conspiracies: The giant robot Mazinger has a past history involving the Greek god Zeus! The villain Baron Ashura is recontextualized as a deeply tragic villain with the best story arc in the series! We’re even given Tsubasa Nishikori, a Go Nagai staple who here becomes Imagawa’s best-written female character! 
  Mazinger Z is absolutely suffused with the spirit that made Imagawa’s earlier masterpiece Giant Robo so beloved and is an essential watch for any fan of that series. Not to mention that it ends with a cliffhanger brutal enough to make Go Nagai jealous.

  Cromartie High School

    Anime comedies speak to the time that they were made, but there’s something uniquely timeless about Cromartie High School. You could say the show is funny because it’s set in a high school whose roster of delinquents includes a robot, Freddie Mercury, and a gorilla. But I think it goes even further than that: Cromartie High School is funny because its rowdy delinquents live lives just as boring as our own. When I watch Cromartie High School, I think not “what weirdos!” but “same, bro.” True in 2003, true in 2021.

    Key the Metal Idol is a truly weird series. Directed and written by Hiroaki Sato, one of three animation directors who brought anime film masterpiece Akira to life, it’s the story of an android tasked by her creator to become human by making 30,000 friends. It’s a series that skewers the entertainment industry but is also loaded down with science fiction exposition. It’s a series that’s deeply in love with the work of David Lynch. Key the Metal Idol is flawed and idiosyncratic, but it’s also a genre-busting original far ahead of its time. And the opening credit sequence rules.
  The Twelve Kingdoms

    Fantasy anime are a dime a dozen these days, but for my money, no recent title comes close to The Twelve Kingdoms. The series has its share of magical creatures, epic duels, and even more elaborate fantasy worldbuilding than you can shake a sword at. But most of all, it’s a story about people and growth. Twelve Kingdoms puts its cast of scared teenagers in a crucible and subjects them to intense pressure until those teenagers realize, to their shock and genuine awe, that they can handle anything the world throws at them. Twelve Kingdoms deserves consideration along with Berserk as one of the greatest works of epic fantasy that animation has to offer.

F - What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom?
Given that I only learned about the existence of fandom as a concept in late 2016, the longest I’ve ever been in a fandom is roughly 4,5 years.
G - Have you ever had an OTP? If so, do you remember your first one? Who was in it?
Many! Currently it’s Hiccstrid and Hicretstrid. And maybe a little Zelink. But thinking back, I think my very first OTP was when I was around five years old. From the Captain Tsubasa anime series, Tsubasa and... I don’t even know her name... 🤣 There was this girl who always cheered him on and was his no.1 fan. ANd in hindsight, I think I also shipped Tsubasa... with nearly all other players, mainly, Taro Misaki, Jun Misugi, and Kojiro Hyuga. 🤣
H - What is your favorite source text for fandom stuff (e.g., TV shows, movies, books, anime, Western animation, etc.)?
TV-shows, mostly. I prefer the visuals over books and I prefer the slower development over those in movies.
I - Has Tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why?
Not caused me to stop liking them. But in some cases (ATLA and TDP, to name two) it raised my expectations so high that, when I finally got to dip into them, I was rather underwhelmed. It also didn’t help that I already knew the ending and some major plot points. If there’s one sure way to dampen my excitement it’s spoilers.
J - Name a fandom you didn’t think about until you saw it all over Tumblr. (You don’t have to care about it or follow it; it just has to be something that Tumblr made you aware of.)
Supernatural. Pretty much all other fandoms I dip into occasionally, I knew at least a little before. But literally everything I know about Supernatural is from seeing posts here. 🤣
K - What character has your favorite development arc/the best development arc?
I can’t think of an individual character right now, but in general an arc I like is someone (re-)learning to trust.
L - Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves. (Characters you’re neutral about are fair game, as are characters you merely dislike. Characters that you absolutely loathe with the fire of ten thousand suns are exempt, as there is no point in giving yourself an aneurysm over a character that you hate.)
Snotlout has a great relationship with his dragon. Valka, too. Gobber and the twins are always fun, in their own ways.
M - Name a character that you’d like to have for a friend.
Already answered before.
Hmm... First, I wanted to say Astrid. And I'd enjoy having her as a friend, as someone to challenges me to be more active, to work on my skills and someone to talk.
But I think, I'd enjoy being friends with Hiccup, too. I'd like to brainstorm ideas, ponder over inventions and exchange ideas. Geek out about dragons!
N - Name three things you wish you saw more or in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice).
Acceptance, respect, and some common sense. But that’s not just fandom...
O - Choose a song at random. Which ship or character does it remind you of?
My very long list of favoured songs randomly gave me 9 Crimes by Damien Rice. There once was an absolutly stunning AMV with this song about the TV-show The Legend Of The Seeker, The Sword Of Truth (based on the books by Terry Goodkind). I was deeply in love with Richard’s and Kahlan’s relationship, and with Cara on a general level. That AMV featured them all, and I loved it!
P - Invent a random AU for any fandom (we always need more ideas).
Oh, oh, oh, oh! I just thought about this modern meet-cute AU for Hiccstrid a few days back, might as well write it down here. (And will also copy it over into an individual post, I think...)
Hiccup is a single father of a three-years-old daughter. One day, he meets Astrid in a supermarket; she’s in front of him at the check-out and when he hears her voice, he’s stunned. Because he knows her voice, hears it every day. Because she lend her voice to one of these talking toys for toddlers.His daughter’s favourite toy.
Hiccup always liked that toy best, too, because it didn’t sound as annoying as most others. Pleasant even. When he sees and hears Astrid, he recognises her voice in an instant. He jokingly thanks her for making his days more bearable. She’s confused, who is this weirdo? So he tries to explain. “The toy. My daughter’s toy. It’s your voice. A pleasant voice. I listen to it every day.” He keeps getting weirder, stammers, turns red like a tomato, until he eventually just flees, wishing a hole would open up to swallow him, that was so embarrassing.
Meanwhile, Astrid is touched. Knowing that there is at least one little girl who likes the toy she helped create. And her father, apparently. Who had been cute. In how shy he’d been. And how excited. She’s sorry he left before she was able to talk to him and thank him.
Over the next days, Hiccup would think of her a lot. Every time he hears her voice again, he’d think of her. Her face. Her smile. Until they, eventually, meet again... ^^
Q - A fandom you’ve abandoned and why.
Answered before
None, really. There are several fandoms I grew out of, like Sailor Moon or Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne. But I wouldn't say I abandoned them. I still enjoy seeing content about them.
R - Which friendship/platonic relationship is your favorite in fandom?
Those of the rider with their dragons. Hiccup&Toothless. Astrid&Stormfly.
S - Show us an example of your personal headcanon (prompts optional but encouraged)
Pretty much all of my headcanons are about Hiccstrid in one way or combination. One of my personal favourites is that Astrid has a tiny birthmark on the back of her neck. She doesn’t even know it’s there, she can’t see it and it’s almost always covered by her hair anyway. But Hiccup knows it’s there. And he loves to place a kiss on it. It tickles and would always make her giggle. And she smells so nice.
T - Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending?
*snorts* No. If there are people who don’t share my headcanons, then... they don’t have to? I can live and be friends with people regardless of whether we share the same headcanons or not. And if people keep attacking me for mine, I’ll just block them and walk away. Arguing about something like that is not worth my time.
U - Three favorite characters from three different fandoms, and why they’re your favorites.

I might have a type here. Brave, strong, not always easy to deal with. Fiercely loyal. Stubborn. Proud. Honourable. that’s all three of them. ^^
V - Which character do you relate to most?
Same answer as the above, mostly. I think I already wrote a long answer to a similar question once. 🤔 I relate to Astrid in many ways. Loyal and reliable, not always easy to approach, often prefers to deal with her problems on her own instead of asking for help.
W - A trope which you are virtually certain to hate in any fandom.
Anything jealously, especially it being portrayed as a sign of love or dedication. But also love triangles. Unnecessary.
Another thing I don’t like is when there’s a misunderstanding and they argue about it and get angry and yell and have a huge falling-out... when it all just boils down to them not listening.
X - A trope which you are almost certain to love in any fandom.

Forbidden Romance. In any form. I just love the angsty tension it brings without the characters fighting or arguing about misunderstandings.

With all the critical thinking that’s encouraged in fandom culture, I wish more people would remember Ratatouille and this quote by Anton Ego.

Or at least respect it. It’s called entertainment and not lecture about every little detail that is wrong with other people’s opinions. I get why it’s important to look deeper and question meanings and intentions, I really do. But sometimes, I’d prefer to at least occasionally just enjoy something without getting lectured by others for it.

Under the mistletoe
Honoka and Tsubasa enjoy Christmas with their child and for the first time in months get some private time. TsubaHono

AN: This one is for @seigus for being a blessing to the TsubaHono fans. I wanted to write this for a month but just now managed to get it written.
Honoka dug the last strawberry on top of the cake, twisted it in place to make sure it wouldn’t move and took a step back to admire her handiwork. Happy with her work, Honoka carefully lifted the cake and took off.
“One Christmas cake coming up!” Honoka announced as she walked out of the kitchen and into the dining room, joining her wife Tsubasa and their little ball of sunshine Tsukasa. Tsukasa stood on the chair she was sitting on and began to bounce excitedly on it.
“Settle down Tsukasa,” Tsubasa patted the little one in the back, “what did I tell you about jumping on the furniture?”
“That I shouldn’t,” Tsukasa calmed down a little, sat down and stared at the cake as Honoka put it down on the table in front of her.
“And Santa doesn’t visit girls who misbehave!” Honoka gasped loudly, earning a faint chuckle from Tsubasa.
“But Mommy also jumps with me on the beds when Mama’s not home!” The child pointed at Honoka while looking at her other parent. The ginger let out a geh as she flinched and backed away a little bit.
“Oh, really,” Tsubasa slowly looked at Honoka and raised an eyebrow. Honoka could only laugh nervously and gulp under her gaze. “Well, I’m sure Santa will forgive you this time because you were such a great girl this year.” She smiled to the child and ruffled her hair a little, making her giggle. The lack of a proper lecture somehow unsettled Honoka even more. “So, who’s ready for some cake?” Tsubasa asked as she took the cake knife.
“Me!” Tsukasa raised her hand and started bobbing in her seat and Honoka took this as a cue to also sit down. Tsubasa started to cut the cake, serving three slices and giving one to each and sat down on the opposite side to Honoka. Tsubasa turned to her plate to give a closer look to the baked good: strawberries had been spaced out enough so that each slice would get a whole fruit and the top was decorated with white chocolates flakes. The cake was already a great treat to the eye, so Tsubasa brought a piece of it in her mouth with a hint of excitement. The cream was soft and sweet, the white chocolate was small enough that it melted immediately in your mouth and the faint sour taste of the strawberry balanced all of the sweetness and all of it accompanied by the fluffy texture of the sponge. Tsubasa closed her eyes and let out a long and pleased sigh.
“Heh, is it that good?” Honoka chuckled as she took a bit of her slice, enjoying her cake with the show that her wife was putting. “Do you like it Tsuka-chan?”
“Mhmm! Mommy makes the best cakes!” Tsukasa nodded before taking a bite too big her own mouth and getting cream all over her face. Honoka laughed a bit before taking her napkin and wiping her daughter’s face, getting the cream off of her cheeks and chin. The little one gave her a big grin with a “Thanks” before going back to wolf down her slice.
Honoka smiled deviously when an idea surged in her mind after looking at her wife’s plate. She reached out and stole Tsubasa’s strawberry, eating it whole in a single bite. Tsubasa was about to say something, but whatever it was the other two wouldn’t know because Honoka had quickly taken her own fruit and pressed it against her lips. Tsubasa blushed and bit the strawberry; she wasn’t exactly a stranger to these kinds of interactions as Honoka loved feeding her directly, whether it was in the privacy of their home or in a date in a restaurant. Even after years of being together, Tsubasa still felt a bit embarrassed whenever her partner did this, but another part of her loved it whenever Honoka acted lovey-dovey. It didn’t happen often so Tsubasa relished each time it happened.
It didn’t take long for all three slices to have disappeared from her plates. Tsukasa’s battery quickly had gone from overdrive to depleted, yawning a few moments after she finished her cake. Tsubasa couldn’t help but to smile at the sight of the little one dozing off in her chair.
“Why don’t you take Tsukasa to her room while I clean up?” Tsubasa quietly requested, making sure to make the least sound as possible as she stood up. Honoka nodded and with a soft “up you go” picked up their child and took off to her room. The brunette watched them go for a few moments before piling up the empty dishes and taking them with the cake to the kitchen. With the dessert in the fridge and the dishes left in the sink with a vague promise of washing them another day, Tsubasa headed to the living room dimly lit by the Christmas tree’s lights and sat down in the couch, sinking into its cushions and letting out a sigh.
Tsubasa wasn’t sure when she had fallen asleep, she just remembered her eyelids feeling heavier than usual and closing them for a moment. She only woke up when she heard “Ho ho ho” in front of her. Her eyes opened to Honoka wearing a Santa hat and what barely qualified as a red dress with fake white fur on the ends of it that hugged her figure quite well.
“Merry Christmas~” Honoka tried to pull off her most seductive voice, exaggerating it so much that it was barely hearable with how low and deep her voice was and Tsubasa had to fight back her laugh to not ruin the moment. Clearly with her sexy voice failing, Honoka spoke with her normally again, “since you’ve been so nice this year, Santa’s brought you a special gift!” With a wink, she quickly approached Tsubasa and pulled out something from the surprisingly not fake pocket in the skimpy dress. Honoka dangled it just between them and just above them. On first glace it seemed like mistletoe, but on closer inspection…
“Honoka, is that… a pair of cherries with two leaves taped on them?”
“Eheheh… Y-yeah, maybe.” Honoka laughed nervously and rubbed the back of her neck. “I forgot about the mistletoe and I couldn’t find any yesterday so I had to improvise.” She sat down next to her wife and waved the cherries again. “But it looks pretty good, right?”
“Not as good as you in that dress.” Tsubasa was quick to answer and smirked mischievously. Honoka grew a bit self-aware of what she was wearing, blushing and fidgeting a bit in place. “And yes, it could’ve fooled me if it was darker.” In the dark it could’ve fooled anyone, but humoring Honoka was worth it when it was met with her wife’s beautiful smile.
“So, about that special gift…” Honoka turned and went from sitting on the couch to straddling Tsubasa and resting her arms on her shoulders. Not another word was spoken before Honoka leaned onto her wife and lovingly pressed her lips on hers. Tsubasa placed her hands on the other’s sides as they started to kiss. The first one had been short and sweet, not unlike the ones they always shared every morning after waking up. The second one was longer if only for a second or two more but there was a faint hint of passion behind it, as Honoka’s arms closed behind Tsubasa’s head and Tsubasa’s hold turned into an embrace that brought the two even closer. By the third kiss, the brunette had started to open her mouth a bit more. Honoka took the invitation and deepened the kiss, letting her tongue explore her lover’s mouth. Tsubasa gasped as she felt months of pent up sexual frustration crumble down. She loved her daughter with her whole heart, but Tsukasa also meant that there was next to no room for privacy. Moments when she was alone with her wife were few and scarce, not counting the days when Tsubasa was too exhausted from work.
They finally took a pause when Honoka leaned back a little bit to catch her breath. The sight of Tsubasa breathing deeply, her pink cheeks and her somewhat dazed eyes made her feel giddy on the inside. She had wanted to do this for months and being patient had paid off quite well. The break was cut off short when the ginger leaned back to her wife, this time pressing her lips on her collarbone. Tsubasa let out a long and pleased sigh as she felt Honoka slowly kiss her way up her neck, then her jaw line, another one in her cheek and lastly one short kiss in her lips. Tsubasa found herself smiling all the while, reciprocating only on the last one.
“I’ve missed doing this,” Tsubasa confessed, resting her head on the other’s shoulder. Honoka pressed her head on Tsubasa’s as she stroked her back.
“I’ve missed this too, like a lot.” Honoka said as she rubbed her cheek on Tsubasa’s head. “I can’t even relieve myself when you’re not home because Tsukasa’s always around.” She admitted without a hint of embarrassment.
“Well, how about we finally relieve you?” Tsubasa had leaned back to look at Honoka in the eye. With a playful smile, she fumbled her hands on Honoka’s back looking for the dress’s zipper. Despite years of no longer being under the rigorous eye of Umi Sonoda, Honoka hadn’t gained too much weight, and all the extra mass had gone to the right places as Tsubasa confirmed when she started to pull down the zipper and its embrace on her wife loosened little by little and her cleavage began to come more and more into view. If Erena or Anju saw her like this, she wouldn’t hear the end of how her eyes were glued to Honoka’s ches-
“Mama…?”
Tsubasa’s hand froze in place and Honoka almost fell off of her when she jumped at the voice of little Tsukasa. Honoka quickly got off Tsubasa and took a few steps away from her while the latter haphazardly fixed her clothes, got off the couch and made haste to get to her daughter’s side.
“W-why are you awake?” Tsubasa did her best to not raise her voice, despite how loud she was screaming inside.
“Toilet,” the little one mumbled before reaching out for her mother. Tsubasa leaned down and picked her up before glancing at Honoka.
“Sure, Mama will take you,” Tsubasa whispered, defeated once again by her own child. Honoka waved them goodbye before collapsing on the couch and letting out a loud groan.
A couple of minutes later, Tsubasa came back to a sulking wife and couldn’t help but to purse her lips. “Hey,” Tsubasa put her hand in Honoka’s shoulder. Honoka looked up to face her, “Tsukasa said that she wanted to sleep us tonight.” The ginger simply nodded and started to get up.
“And she also wants to know why I was kissing Miss Claus.”
Honoka slipped and managed to make the Christmas tree fall on top of her when she tried to grab on to something.
