Jimmy: The younger prince of Aquatis. He and Lizzie rule together, with his main focus on the logistics of the city’s food and transportation. Had it not sunk, he would have gone on to rule his own empire, but such times are long past. He is sickly, hatching from a damaged egg during one of the magical quakes that preceded aquatis’ final fall. Part of his sickness is likely due to the magical severing of Aquatis and the swamp empire, though there is no way to know for sure. Jimmy worries greatly for his people and has little hope for the magics of the empire that were lost in his childhood, though he will never say as much to Lizzie who has worked so hard to restore them. Though he speaks quite informally with everyone, he rarely removes his face coverings before anyone.

Lizzie: The elder queen of aquatis. Her main focus in ruling is the defense and re-study of Aquatian magics. She was old enough during the Great Disaster to have been developing her own magics and felt them ripped open when The Heart fell from reach. She spent her recovery helping her people- many of whom experienced similar magical damages- and setting up defenses for the city. A warrior by birth and necessity, she is distrusting of strangers, and quick to dispatch of threats to the empire. She is fiercely protective of her people and hopes to one day restore their memories and magics by finding the heart of the ocean. Unlike her brother, Lizzie does tend to speak formally, but is horrifyingly informal about her face coverings, often wearing them only in her role as a warrior rather than as a leader.
