#everytime i open a zatanna story and i see J.C i groan and thats sad bc i loved them but its EVERYWHERE and its shoehorned even

was  thinking  here  and  honestly,  i  have  no  major  issues  with  aging  zatanna  down  like  it  happened  in  YJ.  it  happens  a  lot,  alternate  earth,  those  things  that  we  already  know  from  comics,  and  while  YJ  does  a  terrible  job  with  her  origins/powers  it  does  wonderfully  with  her  personality  that  is  the  most  comic  wise  since...  ever.  i  do,  though,  have  a  problem  with  the  nerfing  it  happens  with  her  all  the  time  not  only  in  that  show  but  in  the  recent  continuity  and  especially  how  she  is  sidelined  in  most  of  her  stories  or  is  written  to  be  only  a  romantic  interest  to  J.C  even  in  her  own  narratives  ( and  ignoring  some  core  values  of  her  character  only  to  make  that  relationship  work ).  that,  to  me,  is  the  major  problem  with  her  characterization  lately  as  well  as  some  personality  changes  that  do  not  make  sense  to  me  at  all.

this  is  not  even  me  disliking  a  ship,  because  i  do  ship  it  to  the  normal  extent  (  i  don't  dislike  most  of  her  ships,  actually,  and  my  preference  changes  according  to  the  storyline  or  universe  they  are  set  in  ).  i  just  hate  the  stories  written  for  them  where  zee  forgives  and  forget  things  for  J.C  out  of  the  blue  even  if  it  makes  no  sense  or  where  he  is  the  one  constantly  coming  up  to  solutions  to  her  problems  instead  of...  her.  that's  why  even  though  flawed  i  much  prefer  dini's  run  and  earth  16  zatanna,  where  zee  is  on  her  own  and  developed  and  still  her  kind  and  fun  self,  to  the  somber,  daddy  issued,  i  can't  hold  back  current  zatanna  that  is  most  often  defined  by  other  characters  choices/actions  and  especially  not  seen  as  the  go-to  magical  character  in  the  universe.
