also i think that the horror is a jerk thing isnt necessarily untrue, or a bad thing. i love it when media of any genre is a jerk to me
#i actually didnt read that excerpt from wherever it is from as being a condemnation#i also dont think its universally applicable to horror because nothing ever is to anything but a lot of horror does intend to unsettle you#moreso than other things from genres probably do#some comedy wants to unsettle you obviously#and some romance and some action and plenty of thrillers etc#but horror is probably the only genre where a majority of it is made with the intention of you walking away from it unsettled#which is awesome but i totally see why thats not everybodys thing. not have closure to a story used to make me physically itch#my biggest gripe with that passage was probably the idea that science fiction ISNT a jerk#but that goes back to genre being a meaningless phrase and the face of scifi being like. star trek interstellar the martian etc#and not the i have no mouth and i must scream/alien/etc of the genre#everything is semantics and nothing matters. engage with whatever media tickles your brain
