Every Outfit in High Fidelity: Episode 1

One of the things that i miss the most about��“the way things were” is getting dressed every day with somewhere, anywhere, to go. Matching my lipstick to my shoes or my earrings to the small bit of yellow on my t-shirt. Expressing how I feel on the inside but what I’m wearing on the outside. Being able to fully inhibit the personality I’ve stepped into without being concerned about where I’m going, wearing a mask, putting on gloves, etc. I know it sounds so superficial but one of the things that helps me keep my mental health stable is getting dressed everyday.

Because I love getting dressed, I also love watching the way my favorite character’s get dressed in tv shows and movies I like. High Fidelity (the new show) with Zoe Kravitz as Rob has been my go-to feel good show since it came out and every single look Zoe puts on being Rob is to-die for. Every outfit fits together within the structure of her character and conveys such a sense of self. Her leather trenchcoat, her platform leather black boots, the t-shirts. It’s just all to fucking die for! I mean the shit happens shirt in the first scene is so damn good.

I started rewatching the show for the third time the other day and got the brilliant idea to document every outfit Rob wears throughout the course of the show. So here I present to you, every outfit Rob wore in episode one of High Fidelity.

The infamous shit happens shirt. The phone. The yellow sweater. 

A classic break-up look. Puffy eyes and all.

Her “getting back on the horse” first date look, paired with high-waisted denim and the aforementioned black platform boots. The use of dad-style button up shirts in the show is A+.

I noticed she has a wide-array of really good robes too. With the coffee stained shirt on her post-drunk sex morning.

This look? Thank you Zoe. The shirt buttoned all the way up is a look I most definitely will be copying.

I’ve been searching for this Beastie Boys shirt (that says Get Off My Dick on the back) for literally years. At least an affordable authentic version. Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have also been seen in the same shirt. Obvi have to fucking have it!!!!

I found a similar yellow trenchcoat that I will be purchasing ASAP. I think we all need a yellow trenchcoat somewhere in our wardrobes to make them complete.

In these 3 instances we don’t see much but worthy of noting the teal robe with beautiful lace detail and the jeans with the funky green embellishments. So simple, so fucking good.

Simple look. We love a printed pant.

And finally, the end of the episode. Let’s all take a lesson from Rob in around-the-house loungewear. A perfect transformation from day to night at home.

Every Outfit in High Fidelity: Episode 3 and 4

Back again with more outfits worn by Rob in High Fidelity. I decided to put together the outfits from episode 3 and 4 since she didn’t really wear many in episode 3. But episode 4 has some amazing ones!

Episode 3:

Here is probably the most infamous look from High Fidelity (though there are others in the running for best outfit in my opinion!). The trench and the platform boots are just so iconic. They elevate every outfit.

From a flashback scene. Very indicative of her signature outfit.

A laid back look for calling your exes mom.

Episode 4:

I love these pink pants so much! This whole outfit ties in so well together and the color of the pants with the color of the denim jacket work so perfectly together. She pairs this ‘fit with Nike Cortez shoes in the black strip.

Another look of this outfit with the sunglasses she wears. Very 90′s.

It’s hard to tell in this shot but it was the best one I could get. She’s wearing a read and white plaid pattern dress. She also pairs this with her Nike Cortez shoes which seem to be her shoes of choice of the episode.

I love how she pulls off the sweater vest in this. Few can accomplish!

The ending shot of the episode with her Nike Cortez’s which we now see that she wore with this outfit. I love!

Every Outfit in Normal People: The Beginning of College (Episode 4)

When Marianne gets to college we see a significant shift in her. She really finds her place and comes into her own. Not only does she evolve, but so does her fashion. We first see Marianne when Connell runs into her at a party and we take off from there. Our first glance of her is breathtaking.

I think this look is one of my favorites of the series. The white top with the scarf is so amazing.

I included this one because I love her makeup here. Defo eye catching.

Marianne now has an affinity for long skirts. It’s an impressive collection and very vintage.

Homegirl loves this blazer, and we love it too.

Every Outfit in Normal People: The High School Years

Another one of the new tv shows that’s captivated me and millions of other people around the world is Normal People, based on the novel by Sally Rooney. The story of Marianne and Connell’s rollercoaster love (or rather, relationship) story has ripped hearts out and left us all crying on the floor. It’s become a cultural phenomenon, kind of much like 500 Days of Summer did, in part because it’s a story about love, not exactly a love story. And there’s a very big difference between the two. 

We experience the highest of highs and lowest of lows with Connell and Marianne and watch their complicated relationship and friendship develop in front of our eyes. They take us for a whirlwind that ultimately leaves our hearts aching for more, feeling unsatisfied in its ending, but also satisfied because it really ends with true, pure, unwavering love for each other.

I could go on and on and on about how much I loved this show. I felt so many emotions watching it and it really took me quite a bit of time to recover from it. It was a lot to digest.

One of the more fun parts of the show was the fashion and costume design. As many publications have written, it’s the making of a modern fashion classic. Marianne’s wardrobe is really something special. So, I’ve decided to document every outfit she wears throughout the show as a way to know her character and understand her more. And it’s also fun to look at and style myself after her.

While her fashion isn’t all that groundbreaking in the episodes that take place during their high school years, it’s fun to watch her style evolve as she evolves going from high school into her college years.

As Marianne matures going into and through college, so does her outfit choices, but again, I chose to document all her outfits through the show because I think it’s so interesting to see how they develop as she becomes an adult. Just looking at these triggers a sadness inside of me because of everything she went through in the first three episodes. Fashion has a way of expressing what’s inside so beautifully.

Every Outfit in High Fidelity: Episode 2

Back again with our favorite girl: Rob and her impeccable style through High Fidelity. Episode 2 gave us just as much as did episode 1. Perhaps even more. I’m particularly talking about that vintage-looking babydoll dress with the yellow sweater. UGH. I can’t tell you enough how much I loved her style. It was girly, tomboyish, unique, vintage, modern, classic. EVERYTHING! All mixed into one small Zoe Kravitz.

We learn later on that this is actually Mac’s old sweater, but the way she has it buttoned over a gray t-shirt? Cool, calm, collected on the outside, turmoil on the inside.

Here’s the full look she gives us. The baseball style trouser pants with the high white socks and loafers? COME ON! I’ve definitely recreated this outfit like 20 times since watching High Fidelity. Like I said, she gives us so much!

This one has to be one of, if not my absolute, favorite looks of the whole series. This dress is everything and more! It looks straight out of the 70′s or 90′s. Something I’ve probably similarly stumbled upon at a vintage store here and there. I only would love to know what shoes she wore with this outfit. Maybe her classic black platforms? One can only dream.

A classic bodega run outfit. Paired with a leather jacket. We love to see it.

Rob pairs this with high waisted mom jeans again and I believe her classic black platforms. What a fun twist on the “brunch” outfit. A cool girl twist. And the lovely WHAT FUCKING LILY GIRL?!

I think going through this episode 2 gave us so much in so little! So much more juicy goodness of outfits to come.
