As a multi-milestone celebration as well as an event for the official Spade of Storms (Deuce x Allen) day, which is on the 27th of July, I decided to host a TRADE EVENT!!!

Basically, this event is going to be an open art/writing trade that's all about ships (or platonic duos).

The event starts on 7/23 (today) and lasts for rest of July as well as for the entirety of August. For every Allen x Deuce art/writing that I receive during this duration, you get one of your own ship from ANY FANDOM back!

Why am I hosting this?

it's a way to thank everyone for three different follower milestones

a contest/DTIYS/raffle wouldn't promise that everyone gets something back, so I went for a trade event

the event allows me to post more about other canon TWST characters and draw them while not having to neglect Allen x Deuce

I wanna make new mutuals & friends, get to know more ships, and strengthen friendships with mutuals I already have!

Artfight is/was tons of fun, but I only do/did colored sketches there & ships are a tricky subject. Meanwhile, I'll do ANYTHING here!

Basic information:

Make a drawing/writing/comic of Allen x Deuce. (Ideas can be found in this post's pink "starters for my ship" section.)

Post it on your blog, tag me in it, and refer to my event. (While posting is by far preferred — especially for bigger artworks and written stuff — you can also just DM it to me.)

In return, you'll receive a gift of the same type for your own ship from any fandom (OC x canon, canon x canon, OC x OC)! I'll DM you about the ship, so make sure that your DMs are open.

For example: If you submit a sketch, you'll get a sketch back. If you submit a fully shaded drawing, I'II make a fully shaded drawing for you, too. If you add a background, I'll (do my best to) do the same. If you write a drabble... You know the drill!

Rules:

The portrayal of Allen x Deuce must be shippy/romantic.

Please keep angst at a minimum unless it has a happy ending. Comfort is allowed.

Please DO NOT add your own OC or another canon character to the submission. Including them in the background as a wingman or something is alright, though. Additionally, any kind of romantic implications between Deuce and another character/OC are NOT allowed.

Please no NSFW. Harmless implications and slight spice are okay, but keep in mind that these characters are both minors.

AUs are very much allowed! All the previous rules apply here, too, and I'm willing to give an overview of some AUs via DMs.

Please no genderbending.

Please DO NOT draw Allen or Deuce as a standalone character. This is a SHIP event for a reason.

Please don't change their appearances too much, especially when it comes to the color schemes & body types.

Giving them different outfits — especially event outfits — is absolutely cool (yes, you can draw Allen in a skirt if you wanna), and changing their hairstyles is okay as long as they still look like themselves.

For drawings, anything from a quick sketch to an extremely detailed drawing with a background is allowed! You'll get something of the same quality back. The same also goes for writings/fanfics.

Animatics will receive a drawing in return.

I want to join the event, but I don't have any ship (OC x canon, canon x canon, OC x OC) you could draw/write about for me in return.

That's okay! In that case, I'll gladly draw/write about two separate characters or a platonic duo for you.

Can I do multiple submissions for this event?

Obviously, and every single one will be "revenged"!

Can I get something of another type/quality back? For example, can I get a fully shaded drawing for my sketch, or art for my drabble?

Unfortunately not, as I prefer to always give something of the same type back. There are only the following two exceptions that I AM willing to do:

you do a drabble/oneshot —> I do a sketch

you do any type of art —> I write a drabble/oneshot

Is there anything you refuse to draw/write about?

Deuce ships (other than Deuce x Allen). NSFW. Family x family. Minor x adult. Any ship considered to be problematic.

How do I tell you about the ship I want you to draw/write about for me?

I'll DM you after you post your event submissions.

Do you prefer to do OC x canon, canon x canon, or OC x OC?

I have a bias towards OC x canon and canon x canon ships. However, I'm willing to do any ship that's not problematic! In the case of OC x OC, I simply need you to provide information on two OCs instead of one only.

Will you do poly ships?

In order to keep things fair, no. But I could include the third party as a plush or chibi head.

I want to make Allen x Deuce content for you, but not receive anything in return.

How long is it going to take you to finish your "revenge" on me?

It depends on the type of submission you make & what I'm giving you back. Some things can be done within a day while others may take much longer, but either way, you WILL get something of the SAME TYPE back & that's guaranteed.

artfight this year was, in terms of VIBES, utter dogshit

But at the same time it was the best artfight I've ever had. I've never gotten as many attacks before, just like I've never attacked as many people. I got so much more confident in my art and I genuinely had fun, and since I had improved even before it started I was able to get so many ocs on the platform, ocs that lacked art and that I wasn't confident enough to post on the platform before otherwise. They didn't all get art (most of it went to my sona lmao) but it's nice. Even got in a pretty high effort mass attack last minute- which was relieving considering everyone went paranoid about those in the beginning (for fair reasons sometimes)

I think just randomly selecting OCs from the recent page, and attacking mutuals was the best choice here.

This year's social media coverage was insufferable too. Some of my mutuals refused to join at all due to this, not just the odd tiktok trends and the entitlement, but also the "OH YOU NEED TO PREPARE 30 REFS TWO MONTHS IN ADVANCE, AND MAKE YOUR PROFILE LIKE THIS OTHERWISE NO ONE WILL ATTACK YOU! AND LOOK AT THE ATTACK RATIOS! AND DON'T FORGET TO POST THE CARD IN EVERY SINGLE SERVER YOU'RE IN! AND YOU NEED TO DO THIS THIS AND THIS BECAUSE I DON'T EVEN LOOK AT PROFILES THAT DON'T DO THIS AND THIS"

Oh my god. Way to discourage beginners from an event that's supposed to be FUN. I wasn't affected by this due to having enough motivation to draw on a daily basis for a while now, but artfight is NOT supposed to be stressful like that. YOU ARE MAKING IT STRESSFUL. Sit back. Upload one fullbody of your character, heck even a halfbody works in some cases, my friend has a character like that and she still got attacks. If you have a big, detailled ref, good for you!

You don't even need a profile besides your boundaries because unless you 1) subscribed to someone 2) attacked someone and they want to revenge you or 3) go out of your way to link your profile everywhere, people will NOT see it, they'll just see your character through tag search or recent and EVEN IF PEOPLE SEE YOUR PROFILE you only need simple boundaries which can be put in your character warnings ANYWAYS!

Same thing for OC profiles you can have literally the least amount of lore for your OC people will still draw them, you can even just link an external profile (with proper warnings) if you don't wanna copy and paste the bio and layout or something

Don't get me started about the ratio, caring too much about them is overly punitive and utter bullshit, you cannot keep up a 50+ ratio without burning out in most cases since you cannot control when people revenge you unless you're doing a chain or attacking 100% revenge profiles. Holding people to higher standards or refusing to attack people because of their ratio defends the entire purpose of artfight, and is, quite frankly, an asshole move.

To enjoy AF you literally just need to upload some random ocs and draw some random ocs. Now I know that not getting attacks feels like shit. But artfight is about giving first and foremost. It's the first thing you see in the beginner's guide. You give free art to people who MAY give you free art in return. It is free art. You are not entitled to it, though I wish everyone could receive something at the end of the day no matter what.

Do not look at social media. Don't join the discord unless you need server uptime/downtime info. And it will seem way more calm.

Artfight has not gone to shit this year. It's a loud part of the community that has. I may not be posting this with any # as to not start discource but anyone seeing this I urge you to take the positives and take a step back from everything else. First week was stressful as hell for me, until I decided to just draw as if no one was telling me to make my account and ratio perfect. As we may say "Artfight is fun when you don't have a bitch in your ear telling you to fix your ratio".

Ok everyone get your making fun of Brits moment out real quick.

Harvey's a gay trans guy living in somewhere that is ambiguously rural Britain. He works at a bakery in his little town, and he was always content with his simple life. But, unfortunately for him, there's always been a big werewolf problem in his area. For a while, it was fine; sure, every few weeks a couple farmers would lose some sheep, but it was fine. Nothing that affected him, at least... until it did.

He was walking home from the bus stop when it happened. It was late - he'd been on the closing shift, working as much as he could to pay his rent - and he hadn't been paying too much attention to his surroundings. He didn't notice the too-human wolf lurking in the shadows until the creature was lunging at him. He barely had time to block his neck before those massive jaws closed on him, locking tightly onto his left arm. After a struggle that felt like hours, Harvey managed to break free, running for his life. He was lucky that the wolf gave up pretty quickly, probably heading off to snack on some unsuspecting farmer's livestock for an easier catch. That didn't matter to him though. As Harvey stumbled the rest of the way to his small apartment, clutching his bleeding arm, all he could think about was what came next.

He'd been bitten, and everyone knew what came next; if he was found out, he'd be jailed at best. At worst, well... in the eyes of the law, he was now an animal, and plenty of farmers wouldn't hesitate to shoot at an animal threatening their livestock. (Granted, he knew the locals were all terrible shots, yet somehow that didn't make the reality of the situation any less frightening.)

The first few months, he'd locked himself in his room, praying he wouldn't be able to figure out the locks while a wolf. He only stopped when he woke up the morning after to his door nearly busted off its hinges. Since then, he began traveling for the event. He'd take a train as far as it went, then ride a bus to the end, and repeat until he didn't recognize his surroundings anymore. Then, even if he was spotted, it wouldn't affect him afterwards. (If he was lucky. He hasn't been spotted yet to find out for certain.) Eventually he came to know a few good secluded spots to end up for the moon, taking a bit of stress out of his monthly journeys by giving him a safe destination.

In the three years since, he's managed relatively well. He's certain his coworkers are onto him by now considering he takes off two days either side of a full moon, but nobody's said anything, and he hasn't been jailed yet. He's been shot at a few times, but nothing's hit him, and his visible scars can be explained away as werewolf attacks. Technically, that isn't a lie. He just leaves out that he was also a wolf when he got them.

I'm not sure if it's just me, but interactions within the Rain World community just feel... less and less common nowadays.

There aren't any more 'Send me your design so I can draw them!' posts, new poll blogs, voice acting projects, or pretty much anything that one could participate in, outside of some ask blogs where the inboxes get flooded extremely quickly.

It's mostly everyone just doing their own thing, and reblogging some stuff here and there.

But getting mad at this would be quite hypocritical of me, as I never really did anything about it.

It's very much possible that I'm just looking at the wrong places, and I could find much more interactions within some of the Discord servers I'm in... or I just simply missed some stuff, because that absolutely happens too.

Regardless, some others have been pretty vocal about how much of a problem it is that I don't exactly initiate anything ever. I do respond to people, I just never end up being the one who goes "Hey, we haven't talked in a while, how are you?" or "Sup, I think you're really cool! Can we chat" or "Guess what, I'm doing a really cool thing, and you can join in! Would you like to?", or anything else of that nature.

I always just hope that other people will approach me, or that they themselves will start something I can join into. I had generally unpleasant experiences from when I attempted to do that myself, which is why I'm like this, but it's very clear that this is not healthy, and that it can absolutely lead to isolation.

Currently, everything is fine. I'm spending time with my brother, playing this stupidly hard moba-like PvE Warcraft 3 map through LAN, and I'm sort of enjoying the new event the Discord server is running (even if the server members don't seen to care about my scugs as much as the Artfighters).

But the event will end, and I won't be home to use LAN in October, and I frankly want to do more, than to just share some images and get a few notes (while maybe playing some games by myself, and chiming into some Discord chats here and there).

All this to say:

I'm very much considering starting some sort of new project. I have brainstormed many ideas, but the one that seems the best would be a new roleplay blog, one where Rain World characters could react stuff other people would submit, be it jokes, questions, images, videos, or whatever, really.

The twist would be that every character is played/represented by a different person, and they could all send voice clips - reacting to the submissions as if they were their assigned character.

This mainly came from the fact that a voiceover project was just cancelled like, two days ago, and there's a bunch of voice acting enthusiasts I know, who would be dying to dub something.

Problem is that I would have to depend on others, both to get submissions, and to get the answers from all the character's I'm not voicing myself. And I'm struggling to make that leap of faith to start this thing, especially consider that I don't have a huge following.

Let's just hope I'll get to start working on something cool, once I'll leave for my apartment. I'll be contemplating on this stuff in the meantime.

I reappear again!

And I'm very tired, but we move. I don't mean to keep going radio silent for such long periods, I do tend to get way too engrossed into my work and I'm absolutely abismal at keeping up with social media. I can't excuse myself for this, especially since this has been to my detriment more recently; I've been experiencing some troubles with my left elbow recently (which is my drawing arm) that, while not too bad right now, have made me have to consider taking things more easy, which also hasn't helped with a large of burnout I've been feeling on my current animation project.

So, what does this mean? Well, for starters, I'm continuing work on the animation. Despite my burnout, I still feel like I'm putting good work into it and at this point abandonning it would just feel plain silly. In fact, here's the finished clean for shots 2 and 3 (shot 1 doesn't have the character so I don't have to animate). I'm currently... halfway(?) into cleaning up shot 4, and while I did want to get it done for this month to show you guys the whole thing that isn't gonna happen.

Next, once clean up is done, I'm going to be working on this animation a bit less so that I can make some other stuff. I know that might seem a bit backwards considering the previous problems I've listed, but my burnout really comes from being bogged down on one project for so long and instead of making one really good looking animations, I want to make "crappy" ones... and finally push forward with some original projects (even though I really want to play some games (I'm right at the end of Paper Mario TTYD) so bear with me).

My original plan was to get the animation done by October, but now I'm taking the stance of "It's done when it's done". This is really important to me as I want to start pushing to get a career in animation and this seems like the best way to get my work out there, alongside interacting with the community more (eventhough my quietness seems to extend to my online persona). As for my elbow, I've been doing stretches, exercises and wearing supports and it's feeling better, but I don't want to risk never being able to draw again so I'll still be taking it easy for some time.

That's almost everything, but I've got one more thing to share that I'm excited and nervous about:

I'm joining Artfight this year! I'll be on team Seafoam, but noboby's safe, I'll be attacking everyone and drawing as many peoples characters as I can. The characters I've put forward for other people to draw are: Mellow, Shamus, Lucy and Bruce (ignore John Travolta, I haven't submitted a fifth character). Welp, that enough from me, I know I've wrote long posts in the past but this one has gone overboard. I'll see you guys next month with more stuff, mainly Artfight and 1-hour anim probably, and hopefully my drawing arm doesn't explode!

I Participated in Artfight 2023

On reflection, not sure how much of a good idea that was. Let's talk about it. All the pieces in this post are those I produced for the event.

To summarise briefly for those who aren't involved: Artfight is an art event that runs the length of July. Everyone who signs up splits into two opposing teams with arbitrary names, and uploads art of their own characters. They then launch 'attacks' on other artists by drawing the characters of the attacked artist gaining points based on the effort put into the piece. It's ultimately just a way to do art trades and fanart with the veil of a competition. I chose to use it as a way to get myself to practise poses, perspective and proportions. I don't work very well just drawing random sketches to figure this stuff out - I've always needed to finish pieces I want to do or I get despondent.

It was a bit of a rocky start too. The first piece above was when I still wasn't too clear on shading, and on top of that it turned out I'd attempted an attack against a spectator...which doesn't work. It was still lovely practise, drawing mechanical arms and...snitties. I like snitties. Interacting with the environment was important too, and this was probably my strongest foray into it. Not much to start with here though.

You can see a pretty big difference between these two pieces. For a start it's a pretty clear demonstration on my lack of experience - with this kind of simple perspective when the body is all at roughly the same distance I can get it right. But this came just after I was given some advice on shading and the difference is obvious...at least on the arms. It's a little sketchier lower down. The eye is my favourite part of this piece and I think generally it was the best work I did. And of course I've a soft spot for the wings that looked a fair bit like my own.

This ended up being essentially a revisiting of the first serpentine piece with improved shading, which of course looks visibly better, though the eyes and lips somewhat suffered. My hair on this and the previous piece were a jump ahead though, even if I don't entirely know where the change came from. I was enjoying these pieces regardless, though. The shapes, the anatomy practise, drawing snakes and moths and things that aren't my idea.

This was unfortunately about the time I learned about the controversy surrounding this year's Artfight. That the site's owner had embezzled a fairly sizeable (for the project) number of donations while the people running and maintaining the artfight site were receiving nothing for their efforts. I'll admit that put a dampener on my thoughts, though given that I was only going to be producing one more piece at best I ended up deciding to carry on as planned. Who knows if I'll participate next year though.

There was also the factor that focussing on Artfight alongside all my other projects, vtubing stuff included, was a fair amount of strain. It was a pretty stressful month in the end. This piece, the final one, I forced myself to finish on-stream despite my frankly many misgivings about the face that...I wish I'd done better on. I received help from an artist friend to figure out how to clean it up afterwards, but this was the end result as per my personally-set challenge. I might post an edited version later sometime though.

Even if I didn't do a great job of it, this was probably the most technically-difficult piece. Low angle, foreshortening, lots of other art terms I don't know because I'm self-taught...I did a half-decent job of the hair and cloth I think and after a rework between streams, my general take on the anatomy was good, barring the head and the right foot. I'm told I did fairly well for a first time but...I'm not at where I want to be yet. Not compared to the previous pieces.

Artfight this year was worth it, to me. But it was stressful and the controversy makes me unsure if I'll be doing it again next year if it even runs, even if my art has improved by then.

IM ALIVE (NEW UPDATES AND MORE!!)

HI GUYS! So I know I disappeared for... a couple months.. now.. KGJHS

Things have- as you might have guessed- been really crazy and I just hadn't had the energy to draw or interact outside of my immediate circles n all @_@

BUT New month! New plans! New and Better me!!

I wont get into details of it all, but after such mental exhaustion and general craziness/stress of life, I'm finally gaining my energy back and even seeing a therapist and psychiatrist, and feeling more like myself again ♥

And with that, there are New Announcements as well! Regarding things like art, freebies, artfight, and more!So let's get right into it!!

Firstly; Yes I am drawing again! Starting this Monday, July 5th, I will be back to streaming just about daily! I plan to do a Monday-Friday schedule streaming.

Mondays will be for warm-ups and doodles (maybe throw in some quick freebies in there >:3c wink wonk) Tuesdays through Thursdays will switch up between Patreon Rewards, Commissions, Trades/Artfight, etc. And Fridays will either be for more Personal works or just fun stuff! Whether freebies or other things! A sort-of winding down thing!!

NOW GRANTED: I may not instantly follow through this schedule, as I dont wanna overwhelm myself, but I figured having a sort of routine should at the least help! That way I can give myself breaks throughout the week and have the weekends for relaxing (when Im not doing the freebie streams!)

Which brings me to my next thing-

I do plan on doing the weekend freebie streams as before- they just may not be until later this month! That way I have time to get back into the rhythm of drawing and not immediately throw myself into the midst of everything (that wont turn out well JGHJHSD)

Rebranding the blog Biting the bullet on this one; it was a hard move for me to make. You knew me as tinyshippingtrash, then 14baristonoir, and now, hopefully, xivfc. I like changing up appearances/aesthetics, but I know getting a following together goes against that concept. I’d like to take the time to do that now though, both to set myself up in the future and bring about the courage to post in the present. (Side note: I’ve been away due to my game design course; that’s generally why I haven’t been posting! I’ve been participating in events such as artfight though, I’ll probably make a backlog for it soon.)

Splitting my art content This is also a worrying move to me personally, but I think I’d definitely feel better uploading my doodles, sketches of my oc’s and just misc art on another blog, and keep one for fan content separate. This means less confusing artwork on your dashboard when it appears, but that also means more artwork from me in general. I definitely have been drawing more original content than fanart in general, and I can totally set up a backlog for it. 

Fanart will be posted on this blog! That’s less hassle for you guys, I believe. However, I’m not too sure what sort of fanart I’ll be posting until I get to drawing it; I’ll see if I can compose a list of fandoms I’m interested in in the future, but feel free to stick around in the meantime (or not! I won’t blame you, promise)!

On original artwork They’re moving to xivoc! I’m still getting things set up, so not everything at it works yet, I believe. I also have a twitter set up for it, but arguably I’m uncomfortable with using twitter in general, so we’ll see how things play out.

What’s with the activity? So y’all’ve probably noticed, but I haven’t been posting much. I think ever since the trip to the USA, my motivation to be consistent has just crashed and crumbled. 

I think it’s a result of having to follow accordingly to someone else’s schedules and activities? In the past, I’ve always had to conform to schools’ schedules. When I went overseas, I had to conform to my family’s activities, and as of recent, taking the game design course, I have to (once again) conform to my school’s schedule. I’m almost certain of it, and I’m rather distraught about it, because when I was consistent, it was because I was given enough time, energy and space to handle my projects. Having to follow an external schedule is suffocating on so many levels for me, I don’t have time to do anything else but follow the schedule. alternatively you can say it was the antidepressants and id like you to know i validate your opinion because they were absolutely wonderful for me to get to doing things

So here’re my plans for the future. I’m not very good at sticking to plans, because life shifts and I’m terrible at predicting what’ll happen in the future, but here’s a general guideline of what I hope will happen:

Finish school + Internship for about 6 months, will probably be done in 2020,

Buffer period where I try to figure out what I’ll do? I know family expect me to go places and hang out/do thing. I hope this will last a year, but it’s tough to say, perhaps 3 months?

Move in with a few friends; this means flying overseas again, but it may be/should be more permanent this time. Maybe end of 2020 to start of 2021.

Work on art/games, now that I would’ve gotten my diploma.

Of course, that’s a pretty vague timeline, but when speaking to you guys I want to be as honest as possible, and that’s the future I can see at the moment. Additionally, you will notice that it means I won’t be reliably consistent until literally 3 years later, and that’s a big factor of my dread at the moment! I’ll try my best to put up art occasionally, but that also means the blog isn’t going to grow reliably, and I can only hope that things turn out for the best.
