all I want is a fic that centers around Kix after he wakes up from being frozen, where he joins the resistance as a medic. a fic where he considers how similar his time under General Organa is to his time under General Skywalker, and finds out the connection and loses his mind just a little. some sort of poetic cosmic coincidence. a fic where Kix wakes up in a time that isnât his own and chooses all over again to help be a healer for a cause worth fighting for, except this time itâs truly his decision. where he helps Finn recover after the events of TFA and they find a common ground of having been just numbers meant to serve a sinister purpose without consideration to them as people. where he knows more about lightsaber safety and combat then anyone else there, and actually remembers some of the drills the Generals used to run and teaches Rey what he can. guiding her through what he knew Kenobi would do for meditation, remembering how the man had stressed itâs importance for balance as a force user.
all I want is a fic where heâs there to tell stories to Luke and Leia of their father that theyâve never been able to hear before, of the man they never saw him as. where he gets to see Ahsoka again, still alive and kicking it, and he can get the full story of what happened during order 66 - not the fall of the Republic, heâs heard that tale a million times before, but the fall of the 501st, of his brothers. where they commiserate and Kix is finally hit with what heâs been pushing off processing, just how much time he has missed, how far away what he used to know and used to love really is.
all I want is a fic that fixes the sequels and also has Kix as the main character, is that too much to ask?
#everyone is formally invited to give me recs if you know of any because I cannot for the life of me find anything#reading a kix centric fic and then seeing that art of kix seeing the burial ground of jesse and his brothers is a combo that has me begging#heaving for air gasping and crying and exploding#also somehow I want him meeting din and grogu. him talking mandoâa with the man. seeing grogu and losing his shit#because holy fuck thatâs a tiny general yoda what the shit#anyways âïž maybe one day Iâll write the hundreds of thousands of words this concept deserves#but until then Iâm left grasping for straws if anyone has recs please hit me up#sw#Star Wars#the force awakens#tcw#the clone wars#kix#clone medic kix#tcw kix#z speaks

@kaz3313 since I didn't have any recs for you, I thought I'd write you a snippet - i hope you like it! Happy Birthday! :D
~~
Meng Yao heaved a relieved sigh when the last of the guests entered the Unclean Realm. Thus far, everything had gone smoothly â though the celebrations had only just begun. There was still plenty of time for disaster to strike.
He was on his way to the main banquet hall when he was stopped by a familiar voice shouting his name. âMeng Yao. Meng Yao!â
âYes, Nie-gongzi?â He liked Nie Huaisang, he really did, but it was at times like these that he needed more patience than usual to deal with his sect leader's baby brother. âI was just on my way to see if the food is nearly ready.
Nie Huaisang rushed over and twirled in a circle with his hands out. âWhat do you think? Am I pretty enough?â
âYour robes are very fetching,â he complimented, and the slate grey robes did look quite good on the boy... though he couldn't help but notice the cut was decidedly feminine. âAre they new?â Was this something he needed to mention to Nie Mingjue?
âOh no, they used to be Da-ge's long ago.â Nie Huaisang flicked open his fan and sidled up to Meng Yao's side. âHas everyone arrived yet?â
Meng Yao set aside the comment for later and nodded, continuing on his way down the corridor with Nie Huaisang falling into step beside him. âThe He Elders were the last to-â
âThe He?!â Nie Huaisang grabbed his arm, pulling him to a stop. âNot the He aunties?!â
A thread of worry needled its way into Meng Yao's stomach. âThis is Nie-zongzhu's birthday, and they are his mother's family, are they not?â
Nie Huaisang groaned. âThis is my own fault, I forgot to mention that we only ever invite the He aunties to formal occasions, never birthdays.â
âAnd why would that be?â Because if he needed to do some sort of damage control, he needed to know now.
âBecause they're so traditional,â Nie Huaisang moaned. âAnd they refuse to let Da-ge be himself. Ugh, you'll see. Though perhaps I should just return to my rooms and-â
Meng Yao gave Nie Huaisang a look, and the boy's shoulders drooped.
âOr maybe we can just go save Da-ge from the aunties.â
âI believe that's the better idea, Nie-gongzi.â
As they approached the main hall, they could already hear a chorus of women's voices, each fighting to be heard over the other.
âOur little meimei has grown so big-â
âShe looks nothing like her mother-â
âDon't worry, sweetheart, we brought you some proper robes to wear-â
âWhat sort of name is Mingjue anyway, it's not too late to change it again, dearie-â
âWhen are you going to find a nice boy to marry and give you little ones?â
And when Meng Yao and Nie Huaisang entered the hall, they saw that Nie Mingjue was surrounded by a crowd of women of varying heights and ages, looking like he was on the verge of a qi deviation. Oh my. But there was one thing that perplexed Meng Yao.
âNie-gongzi,â he whispered to the boy at his side. âWhy are they talking as if-â
âAs if Da-ge were a girl?â Meng Yao nodded. âBecause that's what everyone thought he was when he was young. I don't really remember that far back, he's always been Da-ge to me, but the aunties... haven't exactly accepted that he isn't a girl, which is why we only invite them when formality demands it.â
Many things suddenly made sense for Meng Yao. âIt may have been helpful to know all of this before the banquet invitations had been sent out.â
Nie Huaisang had the decency to look a little guilty. âWell... you know now.â
Yes, he knew now, but it didn't help him in figuring out how to save Nie Mingjue from the aunties. âIs there anything that will dissuade them?â
âThere's... one thing,â Nie Huaisang winced.
They spent a few minutes whispering to one another before they finally hatched a plan.
~*~*~*~
Meng Yao stood on the raised dais next to Nie Mingjue, watching as the flock of aunties fluttered around Nie Huaisang and Nie Zonghui, each of whom had entered carrying an infant and followed by a pair of toddlers.
âSo,â Nie Mingjue muttered loud enough for Meng Yao to hear, âI recognize Nie Zonghui's niece, but where did they get the other children?â
âThe other infant is Liu Shen's â the head baker. And the toddlers are the children of several senior disciples.â
âSo they'll be disciples themselves in a few years. Good.â Nie Huaisang winced as one of the aunties cooed at the baby in his arms and pinched their cheeks. âHe's good with them, even though he doesn't want any of his own. It's for the best, he's still a kid himself.â
Meng Yao couldn't help but agree. âI would like to take this opportunity to apologize, Nie-zongzhu.â
âWhat for?â
âFor sending the invitations out without first checking to see if there was anyone who should not be invited.â
Nie Mingjue turned to Meng Yao and offered him a gruff grin. âIt's all right. Everyone makes mistakes.â
âBut-â
âEnough. It's my birthday, and I refuse to watch you self-flagellate over something so unimportant.â
Meng Yao appreciated the sentiment, but still... âYou should also not have this day marred by people who don't accept you for who you are.â
Nie Mingjue shrugged. âThere will always be some of those. They're not the ones whose opinions matter.â
Meng Yao envied Nie Mingjue's confidence and certitude, yet it was something he had yet to master. He cared far too much for what people thought of him, if only because it could potentially stand in the way of his own ambition.
âThough I am glad I left Baxia in my rooms â she's a little less tolerant of their nonsense than I am,â Nie Mingjue added.
âJust say the word, Nie-zongzhu, and I will bring her to help you keep order.â
That earned him a chuckle from his sect leader, making him inordinately proud.
âNo need, Meng Yao... come. I'm hungry and you need a break.â
âReally, Nie-zongzhu, I should get back to work-â
âNonsense. Everything is going smoothly. Unless there's some other reason you don't want to eat with your sect leader?â
There was really only one answer Meng Yao could give â thankfully, it was the one he wanted to give. âThere is no reason, Nie-zongzhu. I would be happy to join you.â
As he followed Nie Mingjue toward the banquet tables, Nie Huaisang sent him a panicked look, begging for help. Meng Yao looked to his sect leader then to the man's brother. He gave Nie Huaisang an innocent look and left to follow Nie Mingjue through the crowd. As he walked away, he heard a voice intone behind him.
âSo, Xiao-Nie, when will Nie-zongzhu be finding a wife for you?â
Meng Yao was happy to let him suffer a little bit, though perhaps he might save him from the aunties. Later.

Rated G/K-K+
**Promise by igi_pigi: Thor visits Jane to say goodbye before he leaves for Asgard. Rec: Bittersweet but lovely post-AOU, semi AU pre-Ragnarok. | 1.1k
**Spooky Nights by igi_pigi: "So what is it about?" Thor asks. "Or are we to go in uninformed?"Jane's eyes instinctively flick towards the blank tv screen. Darcy was insistent about it being a horror movie this time - as they serve as "perfect romance fodder", according to the maniac. Jane has decided to go with the recent one, 'The Conjuring'. [Set a few months after Thor2] Rec: Just sweet, dumb, wonderful fluff. Not an ounce of angst to be found. Also Thor learning about Earth is always sweeeeet. | 3.2k
**Stars and Solitude by igi_pigi: It's Jane's first night in Thor's home, however unusual the circumstances. He wishes to show her somewhere. She thinks it's his room. [Set during Thor2] Rec: A nice lil add on, Thor inviting Jane further into his life. | 3.3k
**Canât Go Back the Same Way You Came by gumbridge: Loki lets go. This is what happens after. (post-film; basically a fixit fic.) Rec: This is pretty Loki-centric, but Jane is fabulously written, the family unit that Loki gets inducted into makes me very happy, and the fosterson is understated but so important and wonderful. | 20k
**spring will come by LadyCharity: As if grieving over the death of her husband wasn't hard enough, Jane has to deal with Thor's angry, bitter, emotionally shot little brother. Rec: This is literally all pain but god it is so good. You can feel the love binding Jane and Loki and Thor and it is so, so well written. Holy shit. | Content Warning: Major Character Death | 12k
the universe in your hand by amonkeysue: For the free day of Fosterson Week 2019, Thor's finally taking the right chance to propose to Jane. Rec: an adorable little bite-sized proposal fic. | <1k
Who Lives, Who Dies by MissChrisDaae: When the dust settles, who is left? Rec: Post-Infinity War, semi-kidfic. Pretty cute, and brings Jane into the story like she shouldâve been. | 1.2k
Morning by MissChrisDaae: Thor and Jane's morning is interrupted by their kids. Rec: Fluffy fluffy FLUFFY Jane and Thor with a whole gaggle of children. | <1k
Trending by MissChrisDaae: Jane and Darcy's work session gets a little derailed. Rec: For the Social Media day of Fosterson Week, a fluffy and silly bit, and feeds into the 2012 Avengers Fic nostalgia. | <1k
ever on and on by often_adamanta: Darcy has to correct three separate people at the reception about their relationship, not younger cousin or sister, but college professor and boss and finally best friend. Jane thinks about their surprise, the second glances they give her, and wonders. Rec: Jane deals with the implications of immortality. Her friendship with Darcy is so potent and real in this. | 3k
Before the Thunder Shook Us by niobium: #6, âIs there a reason youâre naked in my bed?â #14, âHey, Iâm with you, okay? Always.â Rec: This is such a wonderful canon-insertion/canon divergence. Just enough fluff and bittersweetness to seem real. | 1k
Private Jokes by MissChrisDaae: Before his return to Asgard, Thor and Jane have a talk. Two years later, Thor misses a chance and Jane has to carry on. Rec: An AOU coda and a Ragnarok fix-it all in one. Feisty Jane and apologetic Thor. My bbs. | 1k
On the Physics of Magical Space Hammers by shinyopals: âSo what does it mean to be âWorthyâ?â Jane asked. Jane doesn't mind sharing her life with Mjolnir. She just wishes she understood it a bit better. Rec: Weâve all wondered about Mjolnir and worthiness. Jane finally takes the initiative to find out with amazing results. | 4k
Fives Times Jane and Thor Broke Up and One Time They Didnât by shinyopals: I didnât know you were in the country, Jane,â said Jane's grandmother. âOf course, nobody tells me anything.â âItâs just a very last minute thing,â said Jane, which Thor knew to be a lie. âI only arrived yesterday-â another lie, âand Iâm just on the way to work and thought Iâd stop by and see Mom.â This too was not true. âThis is my friend Thor,â she added, almost casually. âHeâs been helping me with some work so weâre driving into the university together.â This seemed the most flagrant of all the lies, but Thor decided not to let it show. It's not always convenient to be a relationship, so sometimes Jane and Thor have to make sacrifices. Rec: A giant SUCK ON THIS FEIGE that takes the âJane and Thor break upâ concept to the best possible places. | 12k
Hours Long and Short by shinyopals: The first night, Thor does not sleep. (Written for a post-TDW prompt for Fosterson Week 2017.) Rec: A really wonderful slice of life fic post-TDW. Deals with their trauma so wonderfully, and includes some lovely soft moments. | 4k
#7Days7Hobbies by shinyopals: Thor wants to try out some of Midgard's finest hobbies and turns to Twitter for suggestions. Jane isn't really sure how this is now her life. (Prompt for Day 4: Domestic, for Fosterson Week 2017.) Rec: One of my favorite things thatâs ever been submitted for Fosterson Week. I love reading about Thor fully embracing Earth customs, particularly social media, which opal KNOWS is one of my weaknesses. | 5k
A Question of Honor by shinyopals: âPaintball?â said Steve. âWe could do⊠thatâŠâ âWhat is that?â asked Thor. He nuzzled into Janeâs hair. His mead-breath was giving her a headache. âItâs a thing- a game⊠thing. With paint.â âRogers, stop explaining stuff to Thor, youâre embarrassing me.â Tonyâs voice was remarkably coherent. Must have been drinking sensibly. Bastard. When it comes to deciding whether Earth or Asgard has better warriors, the stakes are high, and Jane is wishing she'd kept her big mouth shut. Rec: TEAM BUILDING EXERCISES FOR THE WIN. | 8k
The Gift Horse by fartherfaster: Sam and Darcy are formally introduced for the first time. Sam says âformallyâ with some flexibility. And a couch. A couch and a great deal of flexibility. Nevermind, heâs said enough. They met, is what heâs trying to say. Or, Sam's early days with the whole gang. Rec: Mostly a teamfic from Sam Wilsonâs POV, which is awesome because how often do you see that. Fosterson is mostly background, but it made me smile so much. | 3k
on the verge of understanding something extraordinary by dirgewithoutmusic: âJane, youâre an astrophysicist, not a storm chaser,â said Erik Selvig, and he was wrong. She was just an astrophysicist too. (A Jane Foster character study) Rec: Iâm relatively certain I read this before and loved it, only it somehow didnât make the reclist. An amazing, touching, wonderful, stunning portrait of Jane Foster. | 9k
starlight in her eyes by jdphoenix: âYou,â she says, voice strong with accusation. âYouâre the one who attacked me!â Thor really must laugh at that. âYou are the one who attacked me. Or is it considered polite among stars to crash into one another?â Rec: A really awesome take on a Stardust fusion AU. Full of inquisitive Jane and cocky Thor. It gave me really hard vibes from the first Thor film. | 1.2k
a true lady of Asgard by jdphoenix: It's not uncommon for Jane to fall asleep working when she's chasing a new theory or hunting down evidence but the middle of a battle for the future of Asgard is not the time. Rec: Jane becoming a fixture of sorts in Asgard is one of my kinks. Also Jane being friends with Thorâs friends and the people of Asgard. Kink. | 3.5k
Afterwit by RC_McLachlan: Good with patients, bad with relationships. That's what she told Thor before she ripped the name tag from the shirt in his hands and crumbled it in her palm, relishing the way the sticky back clung to her skin before she threw it in the waste bin. She'd never been so right in her life up to that pointâthe rightest she's ever been was when she decided to offer the crazy blond guy a ride to his mysterious non-satellite in the desert. Or, the one in which Jane and Thor run into Donald Blake. Rec: I am such a sucker for the ârunning into the shitty ex with the New and Improved Partnerâ trope and this is that. All of that to such a wonderful degree. | 2.7k
drabbles by freshexes: Rec: Some really fantastic little bits of prose. Great voices of Thor and Jane. Some fluffies, some angst. | 1k
The Good Times are Killing Me by alwaysaprilia: Rec: Modern royals AU. Jane and Thor are perfect in this. The dialogue is sublime, and the interactions made me squee really hardcore. I only wish there was more. | 3.6k
College AU by anthropologicalhands: Rec: Itâs kinda more meta/heacanon, but itâs really adorable. | 1k
allâs fair (in love and war) by sweetwatersong: This is what you fight for. This is what you yearn to feel: this moment, this passing of every second, this rush of life and the indomitable strength of the present. Thor is a warrior, born and bred, and he is glad of any battle - and yet, as with all things, even this can change. Rec: A Thor introspect and a really well done second person perspective. | 1k
Five Times Thor Gets His Shirt Off FOR GREAT JUSTICE And One Time He Doesnât by shinyopals: Sometimes Thorâs armour is more useful when not being worn by him. He definitely doesnât end up in these situations on purpose. Rec: Please bury me in every single five times fic shinyopals has written. This one might be my absolute favorite. So many fantastic interactions for Thor, not just with Fosterson (which is BEYOND perfect), but the whole team. Plus: naked Thor fighting bad guys in an apron. Also the SamSteve is so strong and Iâm in love. | 9.8k
A Discussion of Hypotheticals by shinyopals: Jane and Thor talk about their future. Hypothetically. Rec: I am so glad weâve made Fosterson Week a thing because this fic is WONDERFUL. Great communication makes me weak, and also so many squee-worthy moments. | 5k
Jane Foster Versus the Internet. Or: Five Times Jane Allegedly Dated An Avenger And One Time She Apparently Did Not by shinyopals: Jane discovers that the internet is The Worst. Rec: Itâs the thing I loved so much I made graphics for it because itâs so good. Janeâs interactions with all the Avengers are delightful, not to mention her steady relationship with Thor that is so grounded and real. Itâs also freaking hilarious. | 10.4k
Untitled by polyamoryavengers: Rec: Angst and fluff and Jane comforting Thor. *cartwheels into the sun* | 1k
Sexiest âSomethingâ Alive by Niobium: Tony is bound and determined to make sure a human is awarded the title of Sexiest Man Alive (he even has a solid candidate in mind); Jane just wants media outlets to get their science right. Rec: This is absolutely fantastic. Just the right kind of blend of humor, sweetness, and meta criticism ever. | 7.5k
The Hours Filled by websandwhiskers: Ritual and comradery are basic human needs. Rec: Focus on Jane, not a ton of Thor, but pregnant Jane is always a delight. | 1.7k
First Dates? by hariboo: Janeâs not really sure what her and Thorâs first date is? The party or the barbecue? In end does it matter? Rec: I am not a big fan of high school AUs, but if they float your boat, this is definitely worthwhile. | 1.4k | Part of Letâs Be Young Forever series
Of Car Crashes and Coffee by hariboo: âyou bumped my car and Iâm so piss- oh wow no youâre hot letâs go for a coffeeâ au prompt. Exactly what it says on the tin. Rec: This made me giggle. Super duper cute. | 1.3k
Tactile Perception by RC_McLachlan: âThe day I met you, I knew you would see me.â Her hands find his face, sliding over his jaw, his cheeks, and she brings their foreheads together. âThe day I met you, I hit you with my car. Twice.â Rec: *dies quietly* Teasing and cute story telling and just so many good things. | 2k
Clarkeâs Third Law by shinyopals: âOf all the people to knock down the stairs, she would pick the practically-seven-foot-tall son of the Minister for Magic who just happens to be the Gryffindor Quidditch Captain.â Janeâs just trying to read every single book in the Hogwarts library in between classes, and sheâs not quite sure how Thor happened to her. Rec: I never read Harry Potter but damn it this makes me want to. I just love this. So much. I donât know how but it happened. I actually really wish there was more? | 3.8k
The Most Daring PropheciesâDr Jane Foster at TED Talk by Rozilla: A transcript of Jane giving a TED Talk on her experiences of crossing the cosmos, Asgard and her hopes for the future of interstellar travel - as reported on WHIH. Rec: I canât tell you how badly I wanted this to be real. Fosterson is mentioned a bit, and it makes me smile a lot. | 5.1k
Paradigm Shift by jdphoenix: âJaneâs implementing a ânew organizational paradigm.â She does this like once a year, usually when sheâs extra stressed. Like after that time your brother messed up NYC.â Rec: cute domestics plus Jane is worthy. | 1.5k
Raging Storm by jdphoenix: Thor knows the moment he touches the hammer that it is not Mjolnir. Rec: A brilliant continuation of Paradigm Shift (above, previously recced) wherein Jane bests Loki and is worthy, plus Jane talking down berserker!Thor. So many of my Fosterson hot buttons. | 4k
Overlap by littlestardust: A moment between Thor and Jane. Alternative summary: Thor is respectful of Janeâs life choices, and also there is cuddling. Rec: Teeny tiny fic, but super cute. | <1k
amazed & confused by tashlae: Dating an alien/god/man who fell from the sky isnât something to take lightly. Rec: Jane/Darcy centric with lots of talk about fosterson and a kinda sweet moment at the end. | 1k
untitled by ifilovedyouless: jane/thor, modern royals. Rec: Oh my god, the sweetness overload was too much. Also YAS Thor in military uniform. | 1k
Fosterson - dancing by batsonthebrain: Rec: Introspective, sweet, and with a heavy dose of mutual respect. | <1k
Unplanned by hariboo: The first person to hear Jane is pregnant isnât Thor. It should be, but extenuating circumstances. This happens a lot when it comes to living in Stark Tower. Rec: Very much toeing the crack line. Baby!fic, obviously, plus fabulous Clint, and a semi?redeemed Loki. | 1.2k
clash of the (scientific) titans by anthropologicalhands: Thor brings Tony to meet Jane. Thor admits he probably could have thought it through a little better. Rec: this fic always makes me giggle. Fosterson is mostly background, but the interactions between everyone makes this worth it. | 1k
Through Doors by nayanroo: The Jedi Order knows a good team when they see it, but unfortunately even the best-planned missions always have something go hilariously wrong. Thatâs when the true strength of any bond is shown. Rec: A Star Wars fusion is always a good idea. The way Jane and Thor play off each other and their bond through the Force is lovely. | 4k
Straight On 'Til Morning by arsenicarcher: Thor and Jane are having a baby. Tonyâs conflicted about the whole thing. Rec: Kinda Tony-centric, but Iâm always up for a fosterson baby. | 4.4k
hard to keep the rainclouds out by veliseraptor: Rec: A unique view on Thorâs grief and Janeâs struggle to be there for him. Very lovely, very angsty. | 2.1k
Perils of an RPF Life by hariboo: Look, it isnât that she isnât excited for Jane, sure she is. But Darcy wonders if Jane ever thinks about that. The fact sheâs dating the sexiest E.T. ever. Rec: Darcyâs voice in this is hilarious and touching all at once. Jane and Thorâs caring for each other is so clear and endearing I audibly squeed a few times. | 2k
amazed & confused by tashlae: Dating an alien/god/man who fell from the sky isnât something to take lightly. Rec: Jane and Darcy friendship is a lot of fun. Janeâs pondering of their relationship seems very characteristic of her. | 1k
On The Unsubtle Nature of Fish Ties by Niobium: Fancy clothes shopping for your alien boyfriend should be easier than this. Or, how Thor got his red velvet jacket. Rec: Fosterson is mostly background, but cute Jane/Darcy/Pepper interaction. | 3.3k
Be Safe by MissChrisDaae: Thor and Jane have a contingency plan for emergencies. Rec: Speculation/AU for Age of Ultron. Baby!fic, and is just so damn cute. | <1k
It All Happens Here by MissChrisDaae: Her very first year of teaching, Jane Foster gets an unusual bonus in the form of one of her studentsâ extremely attractive father. Single dad and his daughterâs kindergarten teacher au. Rec: super fluffy and just adorable. | 7.5k
Remembrance by Are_you_ever_not_going_to_fall_for_that: Thor and Jane take a walk and come across something that sparks memories. Post The Dark World. Rec: Jane and Thor talk about Loki, and the lack of heavy angst is refreshing. | <1k

nothing is ever convenient (except to make things uncomfortable) by anthropologicalhands: After Thor returns, there is still the matter of responding to Richard. Rec: The awkwardness of dealing with Richard made me smile. A very smile inducing fic. | 1.3k
Jane on Top by Rozilla: Jane Foster is asked to lecture at the SHIELD Academy, but she feels her old anxieties and worries begin to creep in- but itâs okay. Darcy has her back, not to mention it appears she has a fan club at the Science and Tech Division of the SHIELD Academy! Rec: An unapologetic Jane-fest, which is my favorite kind of party. Fosterson is background, but very relevant. Darcy is a cool friend. | 4.1k
leave this star crossed world behind by anthropologicalhands: Sif visits Jane with an offering. Rec: Jane/ Sif friendship, and they talk about immortality. Great interactions and insights on fosterson. | 2k
Measured Uncertainties by plushbug: Gap-filler, applying to the 2011 Thor movie. A shot at what might have gone missing from the rooftop scene between Thor and Jane Foster, after his 'rescueâ from the SHIELD base. Fits between ââŠand Asgard. Thatâs where I come from.â and âThank you, Jane." Rec: A good fill for the movies, explains some comic-verse continuties. Curious Jane is a lovely person, and Thor relishes in giving her knowledge. | 4k
halfway between the gutter and the stars by verity: Thor pulls his phone out of his pocket and lifts it above them to capture a picture of the moment, their hair lit by the sun, Janeâs soft smile next to his beaming grin. The Rise filter suits the image perfectly. âI shall title this 'THE CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE,ââ Thor says, typing carefully on the touchscreen. âWith the small image of your planet, flanked by sparkling stars." "Well, we abandoned a geocentric model of the galaxy hundreds of years ago,â says Jane. "'THE CENTER OF MY UNIVERSE,ââ Thor says. He amends his caption and selects the options to crosspost from Instagram to Twitter and Facebook. Rec: Okay I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this. So much. Starchild by empyrean: One night Jane teaches Thor the basics of Western astronomy, and Thor tries to describe Asgard. Then the Bifröst breaks, and Jane isnât having that. Rec: Jane and Thor bond over the stars, and Jane doesnât take it sitting down when the Bifrost breaks. Love the simplicity and the power in this. | 1k

Not "Functionalâ or âElegantâ by Niobium: Jane Foster has worked some bad jobs in her career; working with Stark Industriesâ R&D is a vast improvement. Rec: Jane-centric, and gives her a great backstory. She and Thor are adorable as always. The author clearly respects Jane as a scientist, so that shows through a lot, which is amazing. | 1.6k
Jane Fosterâs High School Reunion by Niobium: Jane Foster has a high school reunion to go to. Rec: Jane and Thor are adorable. Thor is a gentleman, and Jane gets to laugh in the face of a jerk. Very satisfying. | 5k

**Her Healing Touch by igi_pigi: Jane doesn't really realise that the Aesir are a bit relaxed when it comes to physical hurt. And freaks out over what Thor thinks are just petty bruises of battle. Ending with a little confession from Thor. [Set after Thor2] Rec: A neat take on Asgardian culture, love the way Janeâs care connected to Thorâs past. | 2.5k
**Qeryana by Domenika Marzione (domarzione): Thor and his efforts to live on Midgard, as opposed to just defending it. Rec: Thorâs visceral struggle of living in a culture not his own, but is ultimately still hopeful and positive. | 3k
**First and Foremost, Red by RC_McLachlan: There's a reason Jane and Thor break up. It's not a great one but it's the right one. In the year that follows, Jane carries on, doesn't win a Nobel Prize, defeats Thanos and saves the universe, and finally allows herself to be a little selfish. Rec: YAAAAAS I want ALL the Jane Saves Everything in Infinity War/Endgame fic. ALL OF IT. Itâs so satisfying and good. | 9.7k

A wonderful fix it that gives a perfect little taste of what we mightâve had if Jane had been rightfully included in these movies. Jane does pass away at the end of the fic. | Content Warning: Major Character Death | 4.3k
Family Values by shinyopals: âIt would have been kinder to leave me dead,â Loki informs her one day. Jane Foster, whoâs just revoltingly kissed Thor goodbye, told him she loves him, and called him a disturbing pet name, snorts derisively. âHe brought you lunch; quit whining,â she says. Loki isn't sure how he feels about his family, these days. Rec: The best take on Loki ever. His relationship with Jane is fabulous, and the interplay between him, Thor, and Jane is AMAZING. What a freakin treat this fic is. Post-Infinity War AU. | 3k
The Second Law of Thermodynamics by shinyopals: âWhat have you done?â he asks. He still attempts to sound grave, but with Jane it is hard not to give into smiles.âDone? I havenât done, well. I mean. I have done some things. But itâs not bad. I was just curious! And nobody stopped me. I mean, they even welcomed me. So. I didnât do-ââJane,â he interrupts, laughing and leaning down to plant a kiss on her mouth. âYou are absurd. I missed you. He kinda likes it. Rec: GOD THE FLUFF. THE. FLUFF. PURE AND GOOD. | 3k
Sakaar by MissChrisDaae: Jane's been stuck on Sakaar for a year and a half. So Asgardians are a welcome sight. Rec: A really original way to get Jane involved in Ragnarok. Jane + science for the win. | 1.3k
Lab by MissChrisDaae: Thor likes spoiling Jane. Rec: For the Jane on Asgard day of Fosterson Week, a short and sweet lil tidbit! | <1k
Domesticity by MissChrisDaae: Little moments around Avengers Tower. Rec: I literally gasped in delight with how much this made me nostalgic for the fluffy Avengers Living in the Tower fics of 2012. | <1k
The Prince(ss) and Me by asoulofstars, MissChrisDaae: Prince Thor of Asgard just wants a little time to feel normal before he has to marry the mysterious Princess Jana of Ameos. So, he runs away from home and enrolls at Harvard University as Donald Blake, where he meets Jane Foster. Jane is clever, kind, and everything he wants, but can never have.Princess Jana of Ameos has spent her whole life studying incognito, getting the best global education possible under the alias of Jane Foster and trying not to think about romance, or the fiancé waiting for her back in Europe. Five Times the Bad Guys Interrupted Thor and Jane's Date Night and One Time Tony Freaking Wishes They Had by shinyopals: âI have told Steve,â Thor says to Tony as heâs leaving to go back to his rooms, âbut I thought I should tell you also. Jane and I plan to institute the ritual of âDate Nightâ.â As always, Thor sounds like someoneâs severely uncool father trying to be hip when he uses any slang invented since the Civil War. Tony's been an Avenger long enough to avoid deliberately tempting fate, even if he doesn't actually believe in fate. The universe is just plain cruel. That's why he knows to be prepared for the worst Hydra can throw at them whenever Thor and Jane make evening plans. Rec: ITâS SO FUDGING CUTE. I CANâT. ITâS CUTE AND HILARIOUS AND PERFECT AS ALWAYS. | 4.7k
Unexpected Arrival by shinyopals: âJane-â Thor cut himself off, opening and closing his mouth without managing words. Her name on his lips sounded so familiar; warm and deep and like nothing else mattered. An undercurrent of nerves there that she could still hear after all this time, that she didnât think anyone else would be able to. She wanted to run to him, bury her face in his neck and jump back in time. Back before the break up - not enough time for each other with the universe in peril. Back before the baby. The baby she still sometimes wondered if she should have terminated to save them both this moment. Rec: The angsty and painfully yearning babyfic that you never knew you needed. | 2k
Steadfast as the Stars Above by jdphoenix: It was not meant to be like this. With him so small and weak, fighting every second to find purchase on a tiny world that spins faster than he can fathom. He wanted to be strong for her. Rec: A fabulous use of the Soulmate AU that completely slots itself perfectly into canon. | 8.3k
too poor for silver, i have a copper tongue by venndaai: âMaybe you don't have the perfect words all the time but, you always have something to say, right? You never have to, have to stop and think about it, and you never stumble over your words or anything.â He squinted at her. âI thought such things simply aspects of Midgardian speech, which you know I am not well versed in.â Jane sighed. âThey're not supposed to be.â Rec: A story featuring an explicitly autistic Jane Foster. So wonderfully done. Full of empathy and love and kindness and warmth. | 1.3k
Gift by spikewriter: Jane looked at the brightly colored rug on the floor of the farmhouse in the Hudson Valley they were still moving into. âI like it,â she admitted with a bit more enthusiasm, picturing how her six-year-old self would have run screaming around the room in glee at such a gift. Rec: Some post-TDW fluff with bonus Darcy inclusion. | 1.5k
to candle incandescent as you pass by sweetwatersong: The legacy of King Tristan and the Star Queen Yvaine is not a mere tale in Stormhold, a fantastical portion of the kingdom's history. It lives and breathes in the blood of their descendants, in their long lives and graceful aging, in the ruling King Odin and his son, the Crown Prince Thor⊠Rec: A Stardust/Huntsman/Thor fusion that isnât so much a full fic as it is, as the author describes, âa sketch.â Still a really lovely read, a great blend of the films. | 5k
Raiment of The Gods by randomcelt: They say the clothes make the man ... or the god. But sometimes, they do the most for his friends. (Or, a tale of all the times someone else wore Thor's clothes and the adventures necessitating such a development.) Rec: A great Thor character piece. A heavy emphasis on Thor + the team which I love. Runs you through the full gamut of emotions in the best way. | 10k
How to Quantify by Rozilla: It turns out Jane has a personal top ten list of favourite equations - and a nice expanse of hot Norse God to write them on. Rec: Super sweet and also contains the phrase âwho said science never got you laidâ so. Yep. | 2k
this new bravery by hoosierbitch: For alfadorisawesome, who requested Thor/Jane âabout to hook up with someone who doesnât know.â This is my favorite piece so far. <3 Rec: Incredibly well done Trans Jane Foster. I am such a sucker for open lines of communication between partners, and thatâs exactly what this is. Thor is incredibly sweet, and this story establishes his very nonbinary opinions on gender which I LOVE, but he still makes an effort to understand Janeâs experience. I love this fic so much. | 1k
The Hammer and the Ice by grav_ity: In the course of her short and mortal life, the heart of Jane Foster has been twice touched by the sons of Asgard. Rec: I adore AUs where Jane was in the Avengers. This is a short flashfic, but really lovely. | 1k

Here, in her last year with a future dark ahead of her, she doesnât see anything to change her ways. Jane and Thor, meeting at a coffee shop. Rec: College/Coffee Shop AU. Bless the AU gods. Sly little Shakespeare references. Thor and Jane being cute, sweet idiots. | 6.2k
Proximity Alarm by fayedartmouth: Thor comes back to Earth. Jane thinks itâs great. Except all the times it isnât. Rec: Itâs a great writing style. Jane and Thor are awkward, adorable, and passionate in a realistic way. Them navigating how to be together is a challenge that not all authors can rise to, so this is a great piece. So much yes. | 13.7
Never So Empty by iwillavengeyou: Thor has traveled the nine realms and seen many things in his centuries of godhood. What could possibly make everything seem so empty? Rec: Wow, just no. This hurts. This is not cool. Ow. Ow. Transcends angst and ends up somewhere much worse. Read if youâre into self-flagellation or are making a reclist. I literally yelled âWow rudeâ at the conclusion of this fic. Major Character Death | 1.5k
An Ancient Gesture by Niobium: Jane and Thor come up with a tradition for dealing with situations where a social function gets to be a little too much for either of them. Rec: Super smiley, stomach flutter inducing fic. Fluff upon fluff, but also Asgard culture/worldbuilding! Yay! | 2.8k
Five Times Jane Kinda Sorta Accidentally Slept With An Avenger, The One Time She Didnât, And the Many (Many) Times It Wasnât Even a Little Accidental by shinyopals: Some people collect Avengers trading cards. You Get One Phone Call by MissChrisDaae: Following the Battle of Manhattan, Jane gets a phone call. Rec: Post-battle strain, but then suddenly fosterson cuteness hits you like a wrecking ball. | <1k
Abs of Thunder by Unknownnobody32: During a flight on-board Starkâs jet, Jane learns how turbulence, pasta sauce, her Thunder god boyfriend, and his rock hard abs can soon become a recipe for embarrassment all thanks to bad timing. Rec: Takes washboard abs to another level. God, this is just too funny. | 2.1k
London, underground by Maybug: Clint Barton meets some familiar faces and has a very bad day hunting the jotunbeast left behind in London after the convergence. Rec: an awesome outside POV on fosterson, plus badass science Jane and her science assistant Thor, and awesome Clint. | 2.6k | Part of the Fosterson Files series
We have loved the stars to fondly by Maybug: Jane and Thor are up to something on the roof of the Tower. Tony thinks he knows what it is, but doesnât see why he should be the one to tell them to stop. Rec: Outside POV of fosterson. Basically Thor does cute/dangerous things for Janeâs happiness. | 1.8k | Part of the Fosterson Files series
change places by coffeesuperhero: Jane and Thor get in the way of a Stark experiment. This goes about as well as you might expect. Rec: Body swap madness. So many cute moments though, plus some implied sexytimes with swapped bodies âfor science.â So much yes. | 3.1k
Slowly, We Adjust by katsumi: Jane Foster leaves the lab on Friday exhausted, overworked, and petrified that she wonât get the grant proposal for her wormhole experiment finished in time to get funding. So, of course she gets rear-ended, because thatâs just the kind of week sheâs having. Rec: Protective/Worried Thor is best Thor. Reassuring Jane is best Jane. So much angst/cute. | 1.4k
Put a Ring on It by fuzzy_paint: Jane makes Thor a wedding ring. Rec: What it says on the tin. | 3.9k
The Pretty Birds Have Flown by beanarie: "Jane never pukes, not when she first wakes up, not at any other time of day. She has a cast-iron stomach and wicked stable inner ears, and morning sickness doesnât stand a chance.â The one where Thor knocked Jane up that night they chilled on the roof, and offscreen Frigga swore Heimdall to secrecy in the interest of protecting everyone involved. The All-Fatherâs house has a lot of enemies, okay. Rec: Heartbreaking, fluffy, and feelsy. Batten down the emotional hatches. | 2.2k
Jane Foster and the Impossible Library by Niobium: Jane, Darcy, and Thor find a peculiar library, and their afternoon takes a turn for the bizarre. Rec: This oneâs wild from start to finish (I say that lovingly), but as always, Niobium delivers on fantastic characterizations. Not super-duper shippy, but so worth the read. | 12.4k | Part of the Jane Foster Works series
Northern Climes by Tyranusfan: Six months after the Avengers saved New York from the Chitauri invasion, Thor must convince Odin to return him to Earth. Rec: Jane and Thor doing cutesy couple-y things. The author captures well the eager awkwardness of a new couple while remaining true to their characters and story. | 4.3k
nowhere to go but up by anthropologicalhands: It is not uncomfortable, waking up with Thorâs arm draped over her waist, their legs entangled under the sheets. It is inconvenient when she wants to get out of bed or, at the very least, look over last nightâs data. Rec: So very fluffy it makes me want to roll in it. Adorably domestic, too. Jane at her scienceing finest. | 2.3k
Late Night Waiting by hariboo: Jane didnât often get home late. Rec: A very sweet and simple Jane/Thor that makes their relationship seem very grounded and real. Also, it is so sweet it makes my teeth hurt, and then I just want more. | 2.1k
Uru by sheffiesharpe: Thor cannot look after Jane, no matter how he wants to. Hogun offers a solution. Puente Antiguo receives another unexpected visitor. Rec: The author makes a really strange concept work brilliantly. Jane and Thorâs pining is frustrating and well-written, and the writing sizzles with unresolved sexual tension. | 6k
Star-Crossed by websandwhiskers: A vignette taking place during "Avengersâ, after shawarma, before Thor returns to Asgard with Loki. Thor and Jane have their reunion, and discuss their future. Rec: Jane is an awesome person, and Thor respects the hell out of her. One of the best portrayals of Jane Foster that Iâve ever had the pleasure of reading. | 1.7k
The Morning After by fuzzy_paint: "I canât believe weâre doing this,â Jane says. "Can you believe weâre doing this?" Rec: Even without much in way of dialogue, Jane and Thorâs devotion is plain. We get a little view of domestics, too. | 1.7k
The Observable Universe by Sarea Okelani (sarea): As an astrophysicist, Jane studies the observable universe for work, but in her free time what she likes to study is a bit closer to home. (Or: Jane has a low tolerance for stupidity. Clint and Natasha take exception to being called stupid.) Rec: Not a ton of overt Jane/Thor, and is mostly an outsider POV on Clint/Natasha, but there is lots of team shenanigans and there is definitely a lot of affection for Thor from Janeâs POV. | 10k
Deal by GreenVelvetCurtains: Jane introduces Thor to the great Midgardian tradition of being made to remove your clothing when you lose a hand of poker. Everybody wins! Rec: I got a huge kick out of this one. Toeing the line of becoming crackfic. Oh, how I wish there was a smutty follow up. | 2k
Before the Fall by verily-thor: Jane helps Thor prepare for Ragnarök. Rec: Oh god, if youâre in the mood for some sadness, come on in here. Tragic without being grotesque, stripping it down to the bare emotions, and two people who love each other more than anything. | <1k
top gun is not a movie; itâs a lifestyle by hariboo: jane and thor got that loving feeling. Rec: an AU that is reminiscent of Top Gun, which is a fab movie. Awesome Jane, and adorable Thor. | 2k
A Brief Introduction to Asgardian Dinner Parties by jonesandashes and pentapus: Â This is the first Earth-Asgard bonding opportunity since that time Loki punched interstellar relations in the face, twice, and the king and queen of Asgard are here, and they are her boyfriendâs parents. A Deal with the Duke: An Epilogue by hariboo: Thursdays were busy days around the house, but today was the first day of winter much. Thankfully, the skies were clear, without a hint of storm, but the wind was sharp and bit into his cheeks. just memories to hold by tosca1390: When the dust and light and smoke clears, the roof of Stark Tower is still intact. Jane can still feel the surge of power in her fingertips, thinks she could hear the songs of Asgard, feel the chill of Jotenheim, as the bridge built itself through Yggdrasil, Thor calling her name across realms. And then, a shadow falls over Jane. Rec: A really, really great post-Avengers reunion fic. Contains some smut | 3.6k

steal my heart 'til kingdom come by tosca1390: Her eyes stray over reading upon reading; she thinks she can taste the tang of energy and ozone even now, and that strange sense of pine and smoke that she associates with Thor. Rec: AU post-Avengers where Thor goes to visit Jane who has remained in New Mexico. Yay for a great collision of two characters who absolutely did not prepare for any of this. Contains some smut | 2.1k

Rated E (these will contain the smuts unless otherwise noted)
**Ambush by orphan_account: Jane isn't into violence, but there's something about those SHIELD debriefings, something primal and raw about hearing how the bad guys got their asses handed to them by the good guys, something that inspires her to act on instinct alone. Rec: If youâve got a thing for Thorâs armor.... mmmhmmm. | 1.1k
Is This More than You Bargained for Yet by Anshin Archives: Thor and Jane's first go at sex. Jane's expecting Thor to have a cock, and is surprised when he doesn't. built on the old rivers by fartherfaster: You catch her wrist and delicately kiss the bone of it. âNothing to be sorry for,â you tell her. She composes her reality in absolutes and theories and the true phenomenal names of things. Colloquial language is not her means of communication. You like her hard lines, her curiosity, her determination. Jane would never call Mjolnir just a hammer, and that puts a small, needy part of you to rest. There is a storm in the desert, and Thor comes to terms with all of his changes. The one where human-Thor has Lichtenberg figures. Rec: Incredibly poignant and the author makes a second-person POV work incredibly well. | 3.3k

For Better or Worse (4)
FLUFF!
---
It had been about a week since that day on the Seine. Marinette and Adrien were taking things slow as agreed. Little moments and actions to help ease them into their new relationship. Not that they did any of it in public. They wanted to keep this to themselves until they could truly define what exactly this was between them. It was also nice to have this time alone without outside interference or opinion to rain on their happiness. They hadnât even told Alya or Nino yet. Not that the pair hadnât been digging at them for information about what happened that day. But Adrien and Marinette agreed that this was something to be kept in the utmost of secrecy for now.
It was actually going rather well. They got their good morning texts complete with too many emojis and their late night goodnight phone calls. Theyâd find cute notes tucked inside their lockers. Adrien tried to walk her home most days before he had to race back to his own house.
The relationship had also gotten them to relax around each other a whole lot more. It took a couple days of whispered pet names, and hesitant touches, but they had fallen into a comfortable rapport. Adrien liked giving her pet names whenever possible and Marinette found herself tracing patterns on the back of his hand when they were sat near each other. It wasnât much but it was a promising start.
If anyone suspected that something more was going on they didnât ask. Discuss about it behind their backs via group chats? Yes. Was there a betting pool going on? Most likely. Did Chloe call him in a fit demanding answers once the rumor got to her? Of course.
Through it all though Adrien and Marinette had their own bubble that no one could pop.
So of course the moment they were finally happy something had to come along and ruin it.
Marinetteâs phone pinged alerting her she had received a text. With bleary eyes she reached for her phone and smiled when she saw it was Adrien.
Morning sleepy head, do you wanna have breakfast together?
She rubbed the last of the sleep from her eyes and texted him back.
Good morning! Iâd love to! Where were you thinking?
Your place?
Are you inviting yourself over to my house at the crack of dawn? I thought we were keeping this from the parents.
Canât a good friend come over for breakfast? ( O ^ O )
I guess a very good friend wouldnât be amiss in this house ( > Îœ o) How are you getting out of the mansion?
I have my ways
Is this in any way going to get either of us in trouble?
Perish the thought. I would never risk your reputation
Iâll tell my parents youâre coming over and Iâll make sure my dad doesnât go overboard. See you soon, sunshine! Xoxo
Canât wait! See you soon, doodle bug! <3
âDoodle bug?â Tikki whispered in Marinetteâs ear.
âBecause I doodle a lot.â Marinette hid her face in her pillow. âShut up.â
âItâs cute.â Tikki patted her head, âNow you should tell your parents heâs coming over, right?â
âYeah, Iâm going,â she squirmed out from under her sheets and popped downstairs to tell her parents Adrien was coming over for breakfast.
âAwe!â Her mom cooed, âAre you two finally together, sweetheart?â
âMom!â Marinette flustered, âIt isnât like that. Weâre just friends.â
She knew she could tell her parents the truth. They would keep it a secret and would be really happy for her. With everything going on though it just seemed like another step forward that her and Adrien werenât quite ready for. In time they would tell the parents but not today.
âOf course, dear,â Her mom said, âSorry to presume. You go get ready, weâll get breakfast started.â
âThanks mom, dad, love you!â she sped back up to her room and started getting ready. It was only breakfast so she didnât need to dress elaborately but she also didnât want to be bumming it when Adrien came over. She really didnât want to put on jeans today though. Black sweatpants and chic oversized sweater it was!
A knock on the door sent Marinette shooting down the stairs and careening around her parents to get to it before they did. She opened it and Adrien was waiting patiently on the other side. While he may have been dressed properly for public his hair was all messy as if he had barely taken a brush to it after he woke up.
âHi,â Marinette giggled as she started to smooth out his bedhead, âNice to see you groomed before coming to my house.â
âNice to see you dressing up for our breakfast date.â he quipped back.
âMy house, I get to dress however I want.â Marinette crossed her arms, âYou should be grateful I deigned to change out of my pajamas for you.â
âIf you wanted me to crawl into bed with you that badly you could have just said so.â
âAdrien!â Marinetteâs face pulsed red, âYou canât make those kind of jokes where my parents may hear you.â
âWhat? What did I say?â he frowned, confused, âIs it so bad to want early morning cuddles with my girlfriend?â
âOh! Cuddling. Thatâs what you meant.â
âWhat did you think I was talking about?â
âNothing. Itâs not important. You wanna come in for breakfast?â
âYeah, but I still want to know what you thought--â
âMom! Dad! Look, Adrien is here!â she pulled Adrien in and shoved him in front of her parents.
âGood morning, Adrien.â her mom smiled at him, âGo on and take a seat. Would you like anything to drink? Juice? Tea? Milk?â
âOrange juice please.â Adrien took the offered chair next to Marinette.
The food was soon ready and everyone gathered round to start eating. At first a little nervous Marinette bumped Adrien to let him know that he could have as much as he wanted. Her dad always did make enough food for even the biggest appetites.
âSo, Adrien,â her dad said, âHow are you? School going well?â
Adrien paused, a little caught off guard by the question. âSchool is going very well.â he answered, âCanât complain.â
âThatâs good. What about outside of school? Marinette tells us you have a lot of extracurriculars that you devote your time to.â
âIt can be a pretty full schedule but I enjoy my extra activities most of the time. I think my only wish is that I could have a little more free time to spend with my friends.â And girlfriend, Adrien thought to himself. He knew it had only been a week but he was itching to be able to take Marinette on a real date. Not just a video-call afternoon in the park or a study date in the library with Alya and Nino keeping a keen eye on the pair. A real date...in person...maybe a nice dinner where they didnât have to pretend nothing was going on.
Maybe at the end of the date he could even give her a kiss. Not just on the cheek or hand like heâd been doing. A real kiss. The thought both thrilled and terrified him. What if he went in for the kiss and missed? What if he was bad at it? Sure he had kissed Ladybug a couple times but it wasnât like he could remember any of them! What if he really was bad? What if something he ate made his breath smell? What if--
âAdrien.â Marinette poked him, âYou still with us?â
âSorry.â he blushed. He was getting all worked up about a kiss he had yet to give. âI was letting my mind wander. What were we talking about?â
âIâm given to understand you speak Chinese.â Mrs. Sabine said, âWell enough to translate for my uncle when he visited months ago.â
âYes, maâam.â Adrien said, âFather had me start lessons a couple years ago. He said it was important to be able to speak more than one language.â
âAnd how did you decide on Chinese?â
âWell, truthfully, I wanted to learn Japanese. But father said that I would be more likely to need to know Chinese so we went with Mandarin instead.â
âDoes your intention of learning Japanese have anything to do with your obsession with anime?â Marinette smirked into her glass.
âI wouldnât say itâs an obsession.â
âThe three page rec list you gave me when I asked for anime/manga titles wasnât obsessive?â
âYou happen to be a fan of some quality entertainment--â
âIt was color coded by genre and your personal rating of the series.â
âLike you have room to talk, Marinette.â Her dad said, âYou have that huge calendar in your room that is not only color coded but meticulously updated with your ever changing schedule as well as your friendsâ schedules.â
âWow.â Adrien grinned, âMarinette, youâre a huge dork.â
âCome at me weeb!â
âChildren.â her mom interrupted them, âNo shouting at the table.â
âSorry mom.â Marinette went back to her food. Her mom and Adrien started a conversation in Chinese that Marinette could barely follow. She had started learning more so that she could better communicate with her relatives back in China when she ever got to meet them. She still had a ways to go before she could hold a full conversation though.
âNot bad,â her mom nodded, âYou speak Chinese rather well if not a bit too clunky and formal for normal conversation. Thatâs something you can only get over with repeated interaction with a native speaker really.â
âNot a whole lot of native Chinese around to practice with.â Adrien shrugged.
âI guess that means youâll have to stop by more often.â Her mom had that plotting glint in her eye behind that sweet smile.
âIâd like that a lot.â Adrien beamed.
Unfortunately breakfast had to end and Adrien received an notification he had a fencing lesson to go to soon. Heâd have to sneak back into the house before anyone came to check on him. He said goodbye to Marinetteâs parents and walked downstairs with her to the door.
âThanks for having me,â Adrien told her, âBreakfast with your family is way more entertaining than eating by myself back home.â
âMy parents certainly enjoyed having you around.â Marinette said.
âJust your parents?â he leaned in closer to her.
âMaybe someone else did too. I wasnât paying much attention.â
âAnd what could have possibly be splitting your attention?â
âJust some cute blonde sitting next to me.â she pushed his face back with her finger, âI wish we could do stuff like this more often.â
âWhen we let people know weâre dating we can.â Adrien assured her, âIn the mean time I hope you can be happy with video-call dates and secret notes between class.â
âIâm already happy.â she held his hand. Her gaze focused on their intertwined fingers.
âMarinette,â Adrien tilted her chin up so she was looking at him, âI wish I could give you more.â
His face came closer and a little bell in her head started to sound. Was he going to kiss her? Okay, Marinette, donât panic! Relax. You know how to kiss. Youâve done it plenty of times before! Itâs just your first kiss with Adrien. Stop shaking you absolute scaredy cat!
Adrien pressed a kiss to her forehead instead.
Oh. That was new. Usually he only kissed her cheek. She didnât think something as small as a kiss on the forehead could make her even more of a mess.
âIâll talk to you after fencing practice.â Adrien told her. âSee you later, doodle bug.â
âYeahâŠâ Marinette was still mooning over the sweet gesture, âTalk to you later, sunshine.â
Marinette went back upstairs to find her parents cleaning up breakfast and whispering animatedly. âWhatcha talking about?â Marinette went to help them.
âOh nothing dear,â her mom assured her. âIt was nice of you to invite your friend over for breakfast.â
âHe more or less invited himself but it wasnât like I was gonna tell him no.â Marinette said.
âBecause you two are dating?â her dad guessed.
âWhat?â Marinette tried to play it off, âOf course not. I already told you it wasnât like that.â
âMarinette,â her parents gave her a sympathetic look, âIf thatâs true then you may want to tell him that cause it was obvious he was very smitten with you.â
âWeâre just good friends.â she insisted.
âDid you lie because you were scared your father would go overboard again?â her mom asked.
âNo! I mean--I didnât lie! Thereâs nothing...going on...umâŠâ it felt gross lying to her parents. âFine. Weâre dating. But we didnât want to let anyone know yet because we didnât want anyone interfering.â
âOh sweetie,â her parents hugged her, âWeâre sorry for prying. We couldnât help but be curious. If this secret relationship means that much to you then we promise we wonât breathe a word of it to anyone or interfere.â
âItâs not like I didnât want to tell you but itâs already pretty delicate and new.â she relaxed in their arms, âYou promise youâre not upset?â
âNothing to be upset over.â they gave her one final squeeze before releasing her. âYou make an adorable couple.â
âThanks.â Marinette blushed, âAnd you promise you wonât tell anyone? I havenât even told Alya yet.â
âWhatâs there to tell?â her dad tapped his chin, âThat a friend of yours came over for breakfast?â
Marinette breathed out in relief and continued to help her parents clean up. This was shaping up to be a pretty good day.
True to his word Adrien called her after fencing practice and she admitted that she told her parents they were dating after he left. He wasnât upset with her which was a relief. It was inevitable that someone was bound to figure it out sooner or later. Thankfully it was just her parents and not some paparazzi or crazed fan.
âHow did they figure it out?â Adrien asked.
âThey said that you were too smitten to be anything less than my boyfriend. That and if we werenât in fact dating then I should tell you since you didnât seem to be aware.â Marinette laughed.
âDo you think weâre that obvious at school?â
âHard to say, I donât know how we look when we interact at school. I think because weâre much more wary of the eyes watching us there it isnât as bad as when it was just us eating with my parents in the privacy of my house.â
âThatâs good. Donât want the news getting out to everyone too soon.â Adrien paused, âHold on a second, Ninoâs calling me.â
âItâs fine. If I donât hear from you again today then sweet dreams and a good night, sunshine.â
âItâs three in the afternoon.â
âAnd we both have very busy schedules. I donât know if weâll talk again before bedtime.â There was a frantic knocking on Marinetteâs front door. âSomeoneâs at the door. Bye, Adrien.â
âWell, sweet dreams if I donât hear from you later,â Adrien chuckled, âGoodbye, Marinette.â
They hung up and Marinette went downstairs to see who was banging on her door. She opened it and Alya rushed in nearly plowing over her.
âAlya!â Marinette jumped out of her way, âWhat is--â
âDo you have something to tell me?â Alya was pacing the living room. Her phone clutched tightly in her hand and her hair even more of a mess than usual.
âWhat is going on?â Marinette didnât know what Alya was doing looking like a madwoman in her house. âNot that I donât love seeing you, Alya, but what on earth are you doing here?â
âDonât try and act dumb, Marinette,â Alya pulled up something on her phone and shoved it in Marinetteâs face, âCare to explain this photo circulating around every social media platform?â
âWhat are youâŠâ Marinette trailed off as she took in what she was seeing. It was a picture of Adrien and Marinette outside her house this morning. Granted it was a great candid photo of Adrien kissing Marinetteâs forehead but who took it?
âOh no.â Marinette didnât dare look at the comments. âWho posted that!â
âI think what is more important,â Alya took her phone back, âIs the fact that you and Adrien are dating and didnât tell me! Your best friend!â
âAlya, you donât understand.â Marinette pulled out her phone. Already her Instagram was flooding with comments from jealous fans. âThis is so bad! We werenât telling anyone about this for a reason! Now everyone knows.â
âOkay, calm down,â Alya pulled the phone out of Marinetteâs hands and set it down on the counter, âYouâre freaking out and thatâs partially my fault for coming at you full force. Everything will be alright.â
âHow can I relax?â Marinette started doing little circles around the coffee table, âAdrien hasnât even told his dad that weâre dating. You know how controlling he can be. What if he forbids Adrien from seeing me? I already have so much on my plate right now, Alya, I canât handle any secret dating or star-crossed lover tropes in my life.â
âMarinette!â Alya grabbed her and forced her to sit on the couch, âYou need to chill. Look at me, take a deep breath, and try to relax. You are blowing the situation out of proportion.â
âYouâre right,â Marinette unclenched her fists, âItâs not that bad...right?â
âSome jealous fans leaving comments on your Insta are not worth the freak out. Donât worry about Adrienâs dad being a jerk or anything like that.â Alya rubbed her back, âThe only thing I want to know is every little detail about your new relationship with Adrien.â
âAlya,â Marinette let out a tired laugh, âGive me a moment to breathe. I just found out my relationshipâs been outed to the public when we were supposed to be keeping it ourselves. I need a minute.â
âOkay. Take your time.â Alya leaned in closer and whispered, âI knew he was going to choose to date you.â
âYou are hopeless.â Marinette chuckled. âAnd I suppose I have been dying to tell you about it so get comfortable. You are going to love this.â

Unexpected Relations
Arriving at the retreat, I feel cautiously optimistic about this unintended getaway.
He just made it clear he wants to be friends, take this opportunity to clear your head and get some distance. Your heart depends on it.
Resigning myself to the turn of events, we begin to unload to the car, and are met with Eric greeting us.
âHey guys, glad to see you made it in one piece. Everyone is still getting settled, so let me show you to where youâll be staying.â
He grabs a bag, and walks towards a row of small cabins, beckoning for us to follow.
âEveryone got to pick their cabins, but since youâre the last to arrive, you get the leftovers.â
Walking past all of the other cabins, we get to the very end to find the last two cabins available.
âHere you are. You each have your own but at least you get to be close to each other,â Eric throws over his shoulder with a smirk. âIâm sure that wonât be an issue?â
âAll good hereâ Chris replies before I can get a word in.
âGreat. You two get settled in. Festivities begin in about an hour in the Main Rec Hall. Come prepared to do all of the boring introduction stuff. The real fun begins tomorrow. See you guys in a bit.â
Eric leaves as Chris and I exchange glances recognizing we have no idea what weâve gotten ourselves into.
Eager to get inside and have a few minutes to myself, I tell Chris to take the cabin on the end. âItâs probably a little quieter for any...projects you may need to work on.â
I walk up the porch and enter my cabin. I set my suitcase down on the end of my bed, pop a squat next to it, and release a breath I didnât realize I was holding in. Attempting to rid my muscles of the tension in my body, I begin to stretch until I hear a noise coming from the back of my cabin. As I get up to take a look in what I can only assume is the bathroom, a man walks out from around the corner.
Taken completely off guard, I scream loudly and shuffle to grab something to serve as a barrier between me and the intruder.
âHey, HEY! Calm down! Iâm supposed to be in here. I was inspecting your bathroom for leaks. Iâm the groundskeeper. The others said there would be some time before you guys showed up. I was just finishing getting things squared away for you... in thereâŠ.Y/N? Is that you?â
For a brief moment, the panic subsides and recognition begins to enter my brain. âJessie?â
âI thought that was you! Come here and Give me a hug!â
Just as we embrace, Chris comes barrelling through the door. âY/N? Y/N, are you ok? Hey, Get your hands off of her!
Just before Chrisâ right hook reaches Jessieâs face, I stop him. âChris, this is my friend, Jessie. We met one of the many summers I spent here visiting my Grandma and we kept in touch. WOW, itâs nice to see you. You said youâre the groundskeeper here? When did you leave the Boston area?â
âA couple years ago. I got tired of the city life, and my Dad wanted some help down here so I figured it was exactly the change of pace I needed. I love it here, and now that you know a guy on the inside, I can show you all the cool spots visitors donât know about.â
Jessie and I continue our conversation until I hear the clearing of Chrisâ throat. âOh right. Iâm sorry. Jessie, this guy right here with the prepared right hook is Chris. Chris meet Jessie.â
As I introduce the two men to each other, Jessie outstretches his hand. âHey man, I appreciate you coming to the defense of my girl here so quickly. She was lucky to have you here if there was actual danger.â
Tensely, Chris returns the handshake,âOf course, Y/N means the world to me. âYour Girlâ, Huh?
Sensing the two begin to size each other up, I quickly step in.
âOk macho men, letâs simmer down. Everything is good here. Now, I hate to cut this little reunion short, but I need to get ready. So do you Chris. Jessie, Iâll come find you later, and we can catch up some more.â
I usher the two to the door, and kick them out to the porch. âI mean it, you two. Scram!â I close the door and pause for a few moments to take in everything that just happened. Before I go to change my clothes, I can hear Chris and Jessie exchanging words on my porch.
âI meant what I said in there. Sheâs lucky to have you. You seem like a great guy and all, but I know Y/N. It's clear there's something going on between you two. We have a long history so if you break her heart, Pretty Boy, Iâll make you regret it. Captain America or not.â
âI only have the best intentions with Y/N. You have nothing to worry about here.â
âYeah, weâll see about that.â As Jessie leaves, I can hear Chris is still on the porch.
âShit!â he says to himself, before he walks off to his cabin.
Later on in the evening, we get through all of the introduction stuff as Eric warned, and went through all of the formalities of the purpose of the retreat; what we should want to get from it and some small group exercises to get to know each other better.
Given how the trip here started, I was thankful to have some time away from Chris. He played along with all the exercises of the evening, but I could tell more than once that his attention was on me. I ignored it as best I could, but his presence isnât exactly something I practiced tuning out these last couple of weeks.
We end the group structured activities fairly early with the warning that most evenings will be similar while we are here. Part of the point of being here is to get some R&R before the âReal Workâ for the show begins when we get back.
As we all gather our things to leave, Chris makes his way over to me as Iâm walking out with a couple other people.
âHey-â
âChris!â Sandra calls. âStay back. I need to talk to you about the week. Itâll only take a few minutes.â
âY/N, letâs talk later?â
âYeah, Iâll be around. Weâre talking about having a fire down on the patio. Probably be there for a while. Come find us.â
âWill doâ he says as he turns to face Sandra.
A few others from the group and I decide to meet up in an hour for a bonfire. I go back to my cabin to change my clothes and clean up. I head down to the patio before too long to find Jessie bringing firewood up.
âHey Stranger. Need some help?â
âOh, Iâll never say no to some help.â
I meet him down the hill at the wood stack, and we make a few trips back and forth with loads of wood. Catching up as if no time has passed, we fall in sync just like every time weâd see each other before.
âYou know Jessie, I was not at all prepared for this retreat. Iâve not even been on this job for a month. Itâs a little nerve wracking coming out here with all of these people I barely know. Iâm happy you ended up being here. A familiar face and all.â
âReally? You and that Chris guy seem to know each other pretty well.â
âItâs...UmâŠ..weâre just friends.â
âGood. Because Iâm happy that youâre here too. Gives us a chance to...reconnect. Like old times.â I nod happily at this.
As we grab one last load, we notice that a few others have joined the party, settling into the patio.
âHey Y/N, If you have an early night tomorrow like you did tonight, Iâd like to show you something on the grounds. Are you free?â
The history and comfortability between Jessie and I raises butterflies in my stomach. âYeah. They told us we should have the evenings to ourselves most nights. Come by my cabin around 8 and we can head there together.â
Once weâve reached the others, and get the bonfire started. A couple people brought some beers and we begin forming our own conversations. I ask Jessie to stick around and I introduce him to everyone the best I can.
In the middle of introducing him to Beth, I hear someone call out behind me, âChris! Come grab a beer!â
Everyone turns to see him walking towards us as he scans the group. His eyes land on me with a smile on his face, but when he recognizes the person to my left, I can see it falter a bit.
âHey everyone! Thanks for the invite but I think Iâm actually going to head back to my cabin for the night. I have a few...projects to work on. Another time guys.â With this, a few hugs and boos are exchanged before he turns to leave.
Not paying attention to anyone in particular, I say Iâll be back and follow quickly behind Chris before he gets too far.
âChris. Hey, Chris, wait up. You said you wanted to talk earlier? Everything ok?â
Turning back towards me, I can tell his usual animated self is missing from this moment. âItâs uh, itâs not important. I can tell that youâre busy now Iâll catch you later. Go enjoy your night.â He sulks away before I can make heads or tails of what is up with him.
Deciding to take his advice, I go back to the bonfire to ring in our first night with a badly worded and slurred singalong. Itâs like weâre all at summer camp as kids again. While good-natured, I decide to cut out before they begin telling their spooky stories. I tell everyone good night and I head back to my cabin.
Not too far from my resting place for the next two weeks, I can see that the light is still on in Chrisâ cabin. I decide to check in on him, maybe get some answers to his roller coaster of a mood today.
I walk up to his door and knock. After a few moments, I knock again, still without an answer. I decide to chance it, and open the door as quietly as I can. Scanning the room, my eyes quickly land on a passed out Chris on his bed with his glasses still on and a script laying on his chest.
Taking in the scene before me, I know I will not see him like this again in any relatively near future, if at all. I do my best to commit the mental images to my memory before removing his glasses, and laying them with his script on the nightstand.
I briefly kiss him on his forehead, and turn out his light.
âGoodnight Chris.â

My Heart Bleeds For You-Part 2
Itâs so hard to pick songs for chapters holy crap. Like I have a zillion songs to choose from, BUT I WANNA USE THEM FOR LATER CHAPTERS!! Do you know how frustrating that is?! (And yes that is an invitation to suggest tracks for future chapters!)
Chapter 1Â - Chapter 2 -Â Chapter 3
Chapter 2: Think
Song rec: Think by TV Noise
Word count: 3,920
Warnings: mild swearing, mild violence (practice fighting/defending), obscure mentions of abuse, tons upon tons of consent.
âWhatâs your favorite color?â He asked.
âNope. Too personal. The game is over.â (Y/N) said, completely deadpan for the first two seconds. Just enough to make Mitch frown in confusion before she grinned. âIâm just kidding. I donât really have a favorite, it usually depends on my mood and even then it still changes a lot.â She shrugged. âWhat about you? Iâm assuming black, but I could be wrong.â She joked.
âYouâre wrong. Itâs gray.â He replied, completely straight faced. (Y/N) threw her head back and laughed. Mitch allowed himself a small smile at the carefree way she held herself.
âHonestly, whatâs your favorite color?â She asked after she had calmed down some.
âI never really thought about it.â He shrugged. âThe last time I had a favorite color was probably high school.â
âWell what was it then?â She wondered.
âBlue.â He answered.
âBlueâs pretty. It means the sky is clear.â She shrugged.
âThat it does.â He nodded.
âOkay, your question again.â She said, nudging his foot with hers.
âWhat?â He frowned, confused.
âYeah. You asked my favorite color, and I asked yours in return.â She explained. âSo itâs your turn again.â
âAlright⊠Is that your natural hair color?â He asked. She snorted.
âWhat kind of question is that?â She teased. âYes this is my natural color.â She pulled a lock of hair towards her face from her ponytail to try and see it. âDoes it look unnatural?â She asked. He shrugged.
âYouâd be surprised how many people change their hair color to other natural looking colors.â He pointed out.
âTrue.â She nodded. âIs that your natural color?â She asked.
âAre you just gonna copy all my questions, because thatâs not fair. Iâm coming up with all these original questions and youâre just stealing them.â He accused jokingly.
âOkay, fine Iâll stop stealing your questions. But for the record, âWhatâs your favorite color?â is in no way an original question.â She grinned.
âYou know what?â Mitch narrowed his eyes at her.
âWhat?â She challenged, placing her hands on her hips defiantly.
âJust ask your question.â He grumbled, pursing his lips to stop from smiling when she grinned triumphantly.
âWhat do you like to do in your free time?â (Y/N) asked, tilting her head curiously.
âI like to read.â He decided after a second of thought.
âWhat do you read?â She asked quickly.
âBooks.â He replied dryly. She pouted at him. âCrime novels.â He smirked at the joke of it. âWhatâs your favorite pass time?â He asked in return.
âThat sounds suspiciously like my question, Mr. Rapp.â She accused, narrowing her eyes playfully at him.
âSuspiciously like, but still different. You asked about free time. I asked about passing time.â He clarified.
âToh-may-toh toh-mah-toh.â She flopped her hand back and forth. âBut fine, Iâll accept it. I like to listen to music, and dance around my apartment like a dork.â She answered honestly. âAre you a dog or a cat person, Mitch?â She demanded before he could even process the information she tossed out.
âI think both are alright.â He shrugged. âHow about you, and no thatâs not my official question, Iâm just curious.â He said before she could protest.
âThis is getting confusing on how many weâve asked and answered.â (Y/N) muttered.
âIâve asked four if you count the cats or dogs question, and Iâm pretty sure youâve asked four too.â He filled in easily.
âHow about we each ask a question and both answer it before the other asks one?â She decided.
âI like that rule, deal.â He nodded. âNow I have to answer the natural hair color question really quick. Yes.â He added.
âOkay. Now, cats or dogs. And that means four questions even?â She asked. He nodded. âOkay. I donât really have a preference either.â She shrugged. âYour official turn.â
âWhatâs your favorite movie?â He asked. The gasp she let out made it seem as if sheâd been horribly insulted.
âHow could you ask me that? Do you even know how many movies there are in the world? I canât pick a favorite out of everything Iâve seen.â She exclaimed, flopping back onto the mat dramatically. âThatâs like asking me what my favorite song is!â
âWell there goes my next question.â Mitch quipped. She shot him a look.
âYou better be joking.â She warned.
âSure.â He nodded.
âOh my god, are those decisions that easy for you?â She asked.
âWell I donât really watch many movies or listen to too much music soâŠâ He shrugged and (Y/N) looked scandalized.
âWho have I let into my gym?â She whispered in horror, only half joking.
âItâs really that big a deal?â He asked.
âYes. Thereâs so many good movies, and so much music! God, I need to give you a movie education, and then a music education.â She huffed. âHave you at least watched Star Wars?â She asked.
âEveryoneâs watched Star Wars.â He scoffed.
âPraise the gods, heâs not totally lost to us.â She said, lifting her hands to the ceiling, which caused him to let out a genuine chuckle.
(Y/N)âs watch beeped suddenly, and she lowered her wrist to look at it.
âShit, class starts in fifteen minutes. I gotta go make sure the doors are unlocked.â She said before scrambling to her feet. âGame paused, weâll continue later. Hopefully after you come up with better questions that wonât cause me to implode.â She joked before jogging up towards the front of the gym.
Twenty minutes later Mitch was leaning his back against the wall, watching as (Y/N) greeted each individual person that had come into the gym for the lesson.
âHello, Iâm (Y/N). I own this gym, and Iâll be the one teaching you self-defense for the next six weeks. Is it alright if I shake your hand?â She asked, and when the young man hesitated she smiled, dropped her hand to her side, and moved on to the person right beside him, greeting them the exact same way.
When sheâd said hello to everyone she walked toward the middle of the room and kindly asked everyone if they would like to take a seat on the training mat.
âSitting is totally optional, of course, but I tend to ramble on in the beginning of my lessons so if you stand, Iâm just letting you know right now that your legs might get tired before Iâm half way done with my instructions.â She smiled when a few people chuckled. Half of the group sat, the others shifted on their feet uneasily. âAlright.â She nodded, taking a breath to start her formal âIntroduction to Self-Defenseâ speech, when a hand shot up, stopping her before she could. âYes?â She nodded to girl for her to go ahead.
âUm⊠Whoâs he?â She asked, pointing at Mitch.
âAh, where are my manners?â Mitch nearly gave her an âare-you-shitting-meâ look considering sheâd just politely introduced herself to the entire room, individually. âClass, this is Mitch Rapp. Heâs an employee at my gym, and he was kind enough to volunteer tonight to help me lug around Jack.â (Y/N) strode over to the dummy and pat him on the shoulder. âWeâll be using him later and heâs a hefty boy, heâs caused me to pull muscles in my back more times than Iâd like to admit.â She smiled before turning back to Mitch. âWould you like to say something?â She asked.
âHi.â He gave them a small wave. A few people waved back, others looked at him warily, and he understood why (Y/N) wanted him to talk to them. âIâm pretty much just the pack mule for tonight so this one doesnât injure herself trying to carry to much. Although itâs not going to be an easy task considering she still lugged out that mat that dwarfed her.â He joked.
âItâs lighter than it looks.â (Y/N) pouted. He rose an eyebrow at her and she waved a hand at him. âOkay, ya know, enough outta you.â She said lightly, causing a few chuckles. She turned back to the class and clapped her hands together softly.
âAlright. Before we begin Iâd like to talk a moment about what kind of class I teach and what kind of environment youâll be stepping into.â She said and grinned when a couple more people reluctantly sat, preparing for a long speech.
âHere at New Dawn Fitness we believe in consent with all things, first and foremost. You remember as I was greeting you all I asked before shaking your hand. Your comfort is my number one priority. So I will always ask before I approach or touch you to make sure you are okay with what Iâm doing. If at any point I need to adjust your stance or help you through a practice movement I will talk you through what Iâm doing and what Iâll do next so that you know exactly what to expect. All of my employees uphold this law as well, and yes I did say law, that is how important it is to me. I will expect the same consideration from all of you while taking this class. Weâll use a partner system later on when I teach you how to get out of holds, and Iâll expect all of you to ask your partner before approaching or touching them.â She said sternly. A hand rose in the air and she nodded to signal his go ahead.
âI canât stand to be touched.â He muttered quietly. (Y/N)âs expression immediately softened and she nodded in understanding.
âAnd thatâs fine. Itâs why Iâve made consent a non-breakable rule in my gym.â She said kindly. âAs for practicing, you can just observe if youâre not comfortable with any of the situations I exemplify.â She said, addressing the whole class again. âYou will never be forced to participate. The only thing I expect from you is to observe me as I teach you and listen when I instruct you. I donât expect you to force yourself to participate if you arenât comfortable, so please donât. I donât want anyone getting hurt.â She sounded almost like a mother, full of stern concern.
âNow, with all of that said, letâs begin the first lesson.â She smiled. âWho here has watched Miss Congeniality?â She asked. âI wanna see hands.â She added. A few rose into the air. âHmm. More than my last group had. Alright! Well for those of you who have seen it, this is going to seem a little repetitive but bear with me.â She smiled before turning to Mitch. âWould you mind bringing Jack to the front center of the mat?â She requested. He nodded and pushed himself off from the wall to go grab the sparring dummy.
âOkay.â She said, once Mitch had placed it down next to her. âClass this,â she gestured to the dummy quickly, âis Jack The Jerk or Jackass.â She smiled at the smattering of chuckles she received in response. âBut weâll just call him Jack for short. Now. Jack isnât a particularly nice fellow, as you can probably tell by his name. Thatâs why we tend to beat him up a lot.â She shrugged before turning to face the dummy.
âIn this Scenario, Jack has been saying some very rude things to me, and when I left my preferred public establishment he decided to follow me. Corralled me into a more deserted place and then thought heâd take a run at me head on. Unfortunately for Jack, I know something he doesnât. Heâs going to break his nose in three, two, one.â She shoved the heel of her hand up against the dummyâs nose quickly, making his head wobble around. She turned to the class and showed them her hand.
âWhat I did was this. I took my hand, curled my fingers but kept them away from my palm and shoved the heel of my hand up against Jackâs nose. It will cause his nose to break, his eyes to tear, and it gives you the chance to run screaming. And I am serious about the screaming. It draws attention and that can save your life because your assailant is always looking to make it quiet, quick, and easy.â She listed. âSo the second you realize that youâre in a situation where youâre going to be assaulted, you scream. You can practice it here, and Iâll be using it during my instructions.â She told them all. âGot it?â She asked. They all nodded. âAlright. Next.â She smiled and took off one of her shoes, placing it at the dummyâs base.
âYouâll have to somewhat use your imaginations for this one.â She warned.
âActually, I can help.â Mitch piped up quickly, making her turn to him. âIâm pretty sure I know what youâre going to do next.â He shrugged.
âYouâve watched Miss Congeniality?â She asked skeptically.
âGrudgingly, with an ex-girlfriend, yes.â He chuckled. âI can take whatever you dish out.â
âIf youâre willing, alright then.â She shrugged and slipped her shoe back on. âMitch will be the acting Jack for this next one, I guess.â She laughed with the class as she turned her back to him.
âDo I have permission to attack you?â Mitch asked, half in warning, half in order to be a smart ass.
âYou do. Bring it on.â She stood unassumingly a few steps in front of him. He lunged forward and grabbed her, one arm going across her shoulders and one across her stomach. (Y/N) pretended to struggle with him as she instructed the class. âNow this is a technique Sandra Bullockâs character called âS.I.N.G.â.â She told them before wiggling in Mitchâs hold so she could make room for her elbow. âSolar plexus,â she rammed her elbow into his ribs, making him grunt and lose his breath, âInstep,â she jammed the heel of her foot down on his toes as she said this, and his hold loosened, âNose,â she stopped just shy of actually punching him in the nose but he loosened his hold anyway when he flinched away from her, âGroin.â She brought her fist down but, again, stopped just shy of hitting him, and he let her go. âNow, I stopped half way through beating him up because heâs not actually attacking me and Iâm sure he wants kids someday and he sure as hell doesnât deserve a broken nose. But you get the idea.â She shrugged. âAll of those sensitive places hit in succession really do some damage. Your assailant will be rolling on the ground for a bit so you have a chance to run screaming.â
âBut the groin thing only works on guys.â A man in the back piped up.
âActually, it works on women too. We donât have as much open sensitive equipment down there as you do but we do have a pelvic bone and a whole helluva lot of nerve endings down there that still make it sensitive and painful if hit.â She corrected gently. âBut once you hit someone and break their nose youâre pretty set. The groin is just an added measure to put them down on their knees.â She looked around the class and a small frown creased her brows for a second.
âIf you all donât mind I have one more thing Iâd like to show you tonight before letting you go.â She said. âMitch if you wouldnât mind helping me.â She requested.
âNot at all. What do you need me to do?â He asked.
âI need you to choke me.â She said bluntly.
âAlright.â He nodded. (Y/N) walked around the group of people in the middle of the mat and stood up against the wall.
âClass, if you could relocate right over to my left.â She held her arm out for them and they all shuffled over. Once everyone was situated she turned her attention back to Mitch. âThe last thing I want to show you is how to get out of a common choke hold.â She said calmly. âMitch, if you would.â She waved him forward.
âIâm going to put my hands around your neck.â He said in warning.
âOkay.â She agreed and he stepped forward to wrap his fingers around her throat. âNow, this can be a very scary position to be in, heâs got the leverage of his arms being longer and stronger than mine. When he locks them into place I canât pull them away.â She tried tugging on his forearms but he didnât let them budge. âBut everything has a weak point. If youâre ever caught in a choke like this, whether youâre standing or on the ground, this is what youâre going to do.â She instructed. âYouâre going to raise your dominant arm all the way up, bring it down across your body and his arms, and with actually momentum youâll hit the inside of his elbows which will make them bend, weakening the hold enough that you can scramble out of it. Watch me.â She looked at Mitch and he locked his arms tight. The she brought her arm up quickly before slamming it down across her body, hitting the inside of his elbows like sheâd told the class. They automatically bent under the pressure and she used her free hand to shove one of his arms out of the way before ducking to the side and racing behind him.
âIf you think you need extra time to run, hit the back of the knees like so.â He suddenly felt a foot come on his knees and he fell to all fours with a grunt. âThe second you kick your assailant you turn and run screaming.â She instructed before doing so herself. She ran until she touched the first set of weights and turned back around to them.
âBut that only works if the guy has his arms out straight.â A girl pointed out.
âYouâre right. So Iâll show you how to do it if his arms are bent.â (Y/N) said as she walked back over. She stood back in position with her back against the wall.
âIâm going to put my hands around your neck.â Mitch warned again.
âGo for it, this time, bend your arms and press them against my torso.â She told him and he nodded before lifting his hands and wrapping them back around her throat. He did as told and pressed his forearms up against her chest. It brought their faces closer together and (Y/N) couldnât help but grin to ease some of the tension in the room.
âHowdy.â She said lightly, and some people relaxed, seeing how at ease she was.
âSorry, normally Iâd at least clear the first date before getting so handsy.â He joked.
âWait you mean pressing up against a girl in a room full of strangers isnât a normal occurrence for you? Happens to me all the time.â (Y/N) said with a mock-exasperated roll of her eyes.
âReally now? I think Iâd like to hear more about this later.â Mitch smirked.
âAre you two gonna make out or are you gonna show us this choke hold break thing?â A lanky teenager piped up from the back of the group. (Y/N)âs face instantly lit up with a blush and she cleared her throat.
âRight, sorry!â She said quickly. âSo to fight against this hold you basically start the same way. Raise your dominant arm, bring it across your body, but instead of trying to hit the assailantâs arms youâre going to shove your elbow into the douchebagâs cheek. Repeatedly if you have to. As their hands are both occupied around your throat they have no way to defend against this, and are either forced to let you go to defend themselves or try and choke you out before you can do serious damage. Which within two hits you can do a lot in the moment.â She informed them. âIâll demonstrate, by bringing my elbow up to pretend to hit Mitch. Heâll choose to either let me go or Iâll get three hits in which will cause him to be hurt enough that his hold weakens anyway.â She said before turning her eyes to his. âReady?â
Mitch nodded and she quickly brought her arm up then down. She bent her arm and pretended to ram it against the side of his face. He let her do it twice before releasing her to try and bring his hands up to block her third attempt.
The second his hands were gone (Y/N) slipped out the side and ran, screaming, towards the weights. Once sheâd made it to the first rack of weights she turned to the class and bowed.
âAnd thatâs all for tonight. If you have any questions feel free to stay behind, otherwise weâll work on what I showed you here next time.â She watched as everyone got up and began making their way towards the door. She stayed next to the weights, just in case anyone wanted to approach with questions. After the last straggler walked by her she turned and followed them towards the door so she could lock up behind them.
Mitch decided to help out with clean up by detaching the Velcro from the floor and rolling up the mat. Heâd gotten one end strapped by the time (Y/N) made it back.
âOh, Iâve got that Mitch.â She said quickly, shooing him away before he could walk to the other end to strap it down.
âItâs no trouble. You work on closing down. I got this.â He assured her.
âAre you sure?â She asked.
âPositive.â He nodded.
âThank you.â She smiled before heading to her office to grab all her keys. She came back out as Mitch was lugging the mat into the storage room, and she walked around locking up the doors to the individual rooms.
He finished putting things away before she did and stood by as he watched her lock the door to the infirmary.
âYou can head out.â She assured him when she noticed him watching her.
âI was gonna walk out with you.â He shrugged.
âAlright, if you want to.â She said before locking the door to the storage room. âLet me just grab my purse.â She said before ducking back into her office. She was back a minute later and locking the door to that as well before turning and smiling at him. âOkay, ready when you are.â
âAfter you.â He gestured for her to go first before following her to the front. He held the door for her after she turned off all the lights and locking the outside door.
âSo how was your first day?â She asked as they walked leisurely towards the parking lot.
âIt was pretty good actually. Your other employees are welcoming. Everyone treats each other nice. The consent thing is weird to get used to but I like that you do it.â He complimented. âBut can I ask what made you come up with it?â He wondered. She was quiet for a second before giving him an apologetic smile.
âMaybe some other time.â She denied.
âAlright.â He didnât need to know anyway, he was just curious.
âWell, goodnight.â (Y/N) said as she stopped in front of her car.
âCan I shake your hand?â Mitch asked, sticking his hand out between them. She smiled and slid her hand in his to shake it. âGoodnight, (Y/N).â He said softly. He watched her get into her car and back out of her spot. He waved when she did and watched her drive out onto the street before he made his way to his own car.

Nightmare on Elm St. fanfic WIP
So I have been working on a little thing and I want to hear feedback on to whether or not I should continue on it
Megan is a normal girl; at least that's what she thinks of herself. Not popular but wasnât low on the school hierarchy; she had her own clique of friends, her hair was a light brown color that went to her shoulders, and green eyes. All in all she blends with a crowd, never standing out.
She snuck out her bedroom to go to a friend's house, normal teenage things; her parents didn't want her to spend the night at her friend's home, saying something about that house is cursed, or evil, or something.
Megan tuned them out.
Her friend, Milly, had wild red hair in wonderful curls, her father was going to get his mother who had a minor heart attack and was going to live with them.
âI was worried you weren't going to make it tonight! I'm so happy you could come!â Milly said with a bright smile.
âThe gang's all here!â another friend of Megan, Bethany, alongside her boyfriend Zack. Both with black hair, Bethany had her hair in a ponytail, while Zackâs hair was a mess.
âWhat's with your parents being so against you staying the night?â Bethany asked while Zackâs arm was around her neck.
âThat's because they think this place is haunted by evil spirits or some shit like that.â Megan said sitting on a lounge chair.
Milly looked guilty, shifting from one foot to the other. âIt's true thoughâŠâ she said meekly.
âWait hold up! This place is haunted?!â Zack yelled in a panic, almost spilling his red cup of what can be assumed to be alcohol.
âApparently there was this child killer that lived in this house once upon a time, when he was let go because the cops didn't read his Miranda rights or whatever, the parents burnt him alive. He came back into the dreams of the kidâs whose parents burned him.â
âYou really suck at telling ghost stories!â Bethany laughed and the rest of the small group joined in.
A knock at the door scared Megan for a second.
âOh yeah I invited Kyle and he brought his friend Cody!â Milly informed the group.
The night went on without anything out of the ordinary happening; they played truth or dare, spin the bottle, innocent teenage mischief.
They all passed out in different areas of the living room when it got too late for any of them to stay awake.
When Megan woke to the bright sun shining through the windows.
Only to find out that all her friends were dead.
She called 911 as fast as she could, the wait for someone to show up was the most agonizing elapse of time in her life.
It took exactly 29 minutes for anyone to show up, but it was hours to Megan.
29 agonizing, terrifying minutes of absolutely nothing but dread.
When they finally did show up they talked in the same sort of whispers adults do when they want to keep secrets hidden.
Secrets that they end up revealing anyways.
It was awful, seeing her friends rolled out of the house one by one in the black bags on the stretcher, slowly rolling towards the black Hurst.
People were crowding around the police line; neighbors, reporters, and the policemen trying to contain the chaos.
Megan wasn't listening to the officer in front of her. Focused on everything but him.
âI told you not to enter that house!â her mother screamed hysterically.
Someone in a cheap suit went over to her mother who was by then crying into her father's chest.
âExcuse me miss but I'm going to need you to answer some questions for me.â the officer who by then got through to Megan, who answered the questions.
After they rolled out all the bodies one right after the other; after all the questions were asked; after everyone who in the neighborhood left the scene; was when the man in the cheap suit walked towards Megan.
âMegan, I'm sorry to have to tell you this but...you have to come with me to Westin Hillsâ he said matter of factly.
She looked over towards her parents, her mom was still sobbing into her dad. He looked at her and only gave her a nod in response.
âWe'll visit you whenever we can okay sweetie?â her mom's horse voice said.
She teared up, why didn't she listen to them? Why was she going to Westin Hills? What happened to her friends?
She said her tearful goodbyes to her parents and went inside the cheap suited man's car.
âExcuse me what is your name? I don't think we ever introduced ourselves.â she asked as he entered the vehicle.
He paused for a moment, before answering âChris Parsons.â
âWhy are you taking me to Westin Hills? That place is for those crazies that go around killing people and shit like that. I didn't kill my friends!â Megan spat with venom.
âI know.â
âThen why the fuck am I going to this nut house?! That's for insane people!â
He just nodded at that. Nodded, like her questions were never relevant to him.
âHey I have the right to know what the fuck is going on here!â
But he ignored her as he drove the relatively short drive from Megan's neighbourhood to Westin Hills.
Megan guessed she could always make a run for it to her house. It never occurred to her how close she was to an asylum.
She entered it thinking it was be trashed all to hell and that there would be screaming...but there was none of that.
It looked like a regular hospital.
Chris Parsons led her through the reception area and to her new âbedroomâ where she was met with a nurse. He was of a medium build with short graying brown hair.
âHello my name is Keith nice to meet you.â He stood with his hand held out.
Megan shook his hand and smiled.
âLet me show you around!â He said cheerfully.
He showed her the recreation room, the cafeteria, where she would have her have group therapy and where she would her own therapy appointments.
âExcuse me but why am I here? I've done nothing wrong and I have no history of being crazy!â
Keith stopped. âYou mean you didn't see him?â he asked apprehensive.
âWho? Who are you talking about? You mean who killed my friends? No but if I have any suspicions it would be one of these lunatics!â she said frustrated.
âbut you were at the houseâŠâ he said distently.
âYou mean that oh so spooky house? With the whole âthere used to be a child killer who was burnt alive because the cops were idiots that didn't read his Miranda rightsâ? Please that's just bullshit and you know it!â
âIt's true.â a womanâs voice said as she walked through the halls.
âHello my name is doctor Harriet West, I'll be your group counselor as well as your personal therapist. I know you have many questions.â a slender looking women, who looked very frail and had her golden hair tied back into a neat bun.
She gave a nod to Keith who left, and gave a motion to Megan to follow her to a room with books and chairs and a desk with Harriet Westâs name plate.
âWhat do you know about Freddy Krueger?â she asked as soon as the door shut.
âAm I supposed to know him?â Megan asked in a sarcastic manner.
âI mean you were at his former residence, where your friends were killedâŠâ she responded back in her own salty tone.
It took awhile for Megan to place it together, âYou mean...all those stories my parents told me of that house was true?â
âYou're in Westin Hills because we've found the only way to lessen his evil, so to speak, is to contain those who have been in contact with him here. It's barbarous I admit, but it's really the only way we can help.â she said giving her best sympathetic speech.
âIt is a lot to take in I know...why don't you settle down in your room and maybe go to the rec room for a bit?â Dr. West suggested.
âLike I have a choice in the matter.â Megan replied bitterly, getting up and walking out for Keith to escort her to her new sleeping area.
âYo Keith is that a newbie?â
The voicesâ owner, a slightly built female in a grey sweatshirt with matching pants ran up to them.
âIndeed it is Alexa, she is also going to be your new roommate.â Keith said motioning to Megan.
âHey.â she casually said the roomie.
âHey.â Alexa replied casually back before addressing Keith âYou can leave her to me Keith! Take the day off, she'll be in good hands.â
He laughed âMeg, you will know all the ins and outs with Alexa here...even if she can be a little too much.â
Waving to the man goodbye, Alexa took Meg's hand and walked her to their room.
âSo Meg, is it alright if I call you that? âMeganâ feels too formal! Anyway my bed is on the left side, but if you want to take it from me you will have to win it.â she said once they got to the room.
âI am fine with the right side.â Megan replied, looking at the relative normal hospital room.
âI keep on forgetting that I am in an asylumâ she replied.
âYeah, Hollywood has really done a number on the mental health industry.â a new voice chimed in.
âHey Paige! Iâm just showing the newbie around. Megan, Paige; Paige, Megan.â Alexa introduced them.
They talking the regular getting to know you questions: favorite color, favorite movie, favorite blah blah blah.
They walked to where Keith said was the recreation room.
When they entered they heard the most agonizing scream ever. One of pure hysteria.
âYOU DESERVED TO DIE!!!â
A woman in what looked like her forties; scraggly, messy graying hair was choking a girl in her mid teens.
