hey i'm looking at bright side and i'm really glad that john david fought for our rights and made dumbass nolan come to his senses, and i don't think someone after reading the script could imply a romance between ives and protagonist or he and neil, it doesn't make sense so prefer to think jdw make nolan see that tenet was a love story between tp and neil
hi, friend. i think even in the script (without all the emotions that rpattz portrayed for us in the movie) neil would make more sense as the love interest. kat, imo, looks more than a passing character, a reason to keep the plot going, rather than someone the protagonist would end up with. and ives, as i already said in the tags of that post, barely had any screentime with the protagonist (although there is a bit chemistry there, i will admit that), definitely not enough to make us audience (me) think that there is something more to them (even though i don’t mind them as a crack ship or something lol).
whereas, neil, there’s always a certain implication - the (grins) “no, you don’t”, the “need a hand” spoken without preemptive, the “Neil steps up, DESPERATE“ after neil found out the protagonist was fighting himself, the “now let me go” and everything that follows it. and the fact that neil got a lengthy, bittersweet goodbye with the protagonist truly spoke volume on the nature of their relationship - that it was more meaningful, more impactful than the two above.
perhaps, it’s just the shipper goggles that are glued tight to my face, but yeah, neil definitely makes a better love interest than either kat, or ives. jdw definitely didn’t come to this conclusion, but i’m glad still that he’s got enough sense to steer nolan away from the protagonist/kat route. it wouldn’t make sense, anyways, seeing as kat just got off from an abusive relationship, and cared about nothing than the wellbeing of herself and her son.
