Who am I

An internet person with a Master’s in Literature and a very niche interest in angels. I swore off tumblr years ago, but I’m back for the time being.

What’s the point of this blog?

I love Good Omens and I love angels. After weeks of lurking and reading up on some headcanons, I realized that I could share some of the stuff I’ve read over the years without getting funny looks.

Is this a Good Omens blog or an angel blog?

Right now, both. I see the point of this blog as a bit of a resource for Good Omens headcanons and fanworks, but that doesn’t mean that there’s no possibility for evolution. I mean, I really do love this stuff and could see me turning this into a pure lore blog! So to be on the safe side, anything that’s just about Good Omens and has nothing to do with lore will be tagged “not angelology.”

Every angel writes: my own ramblings/original content.

Angelology adjacent: Related to angels, but not really about angels (eg ancient Mesopotamian mythology, other Biblical folklore, etc).

What are your sources/qualifications?

Other than a Master’s degree and lots of passion, I don’t have much to point to in way of legitimacy. The closest I have to that is this: I’ve taken several religion history classes and passed a PhD level course on Milton/Paradise Lost. Even got to give a presentation on angels!

That said, if you have ever been in grad school, you’ll understand my dedication to research and researching well. I’ll list sources as I go along and promise to do my best to provide accurate information. No fake angel lore here!  

Why angels?

I’ve always been a fan of mythology and folklore dealing with the afterlife/underworld. Ghosts, gods of the dead, psychopomps, anything! I’m also a lover of fantasy and horror stories, so send any and all eldritch angels my way.

Religious?

Nope and I certainly don’t believe in literal angels. However, I respect that angels are connected to active belief systems which provide a lot of peace and comfort for people. I will not get into religious/faith discourse and will approach all related topics from a scholarly place.

That said: please don’t try and save my soul. Respect my right to be a heathen as I respect someone’s right to be religious.

Why does your username have two gs?

Because there are two different blogs called everyangelisterrifying and every-angel-is-terrifying. I love that Rilke quote and eldritch horror angels too much to just roll over and give up, so I had to do two gs.

Also, neither of those blogs are about angels and one looks totally inactive, so there’s clearly no justice in this world.

What’s your favorite angel?

Thrones. C’mon, flaming wheel of eyes. Gotta love it.

A word on angelology:

This is an area of research that is funny, fascinating, and most of all, infuriating. Most angel lore isn’t found in any of the canonical works of the Abrahamic religions. Instead, we need to look to conflicting and contradictory traditions, occult books, and unreliable texts. Angels were introduced relatively late in the faith game and many of them went unnamed in the Bible. So, if this information seems especially weird and like it was made up on the spot by some random Medieval scholar...that’s because it probably was.
