#every time I see an nt person refer to an interest of theirs as a hyperfixation I die a little inside

I’m so sick and tired of this cycle:
Neurodivergent people become more confident about casually discussing their experiences and using terminology relating to their disabilities to do so
Neurotypical people latch onto said terminology for some reason and meme-ify using it improperly (specifically in a way which trivializes it)
The word loses all meaning amongst the online public, making discussing your experiences as a neurodivergent person with neurotypicals more difficult than it otherwise would be, + sometimes making it more difficult to figure out whether someone you’re talking to has the same disability as you or if they’re just parroting “internet slang.”
#every time I see an nt person refer to an interest of theirs as a hyperfixation I die a little inside#like. hyperfixation is a very specific thing that I deal with every day and have very complicated feelings about#on bad days my entire life revolves around it#stop comparing that to you just liking a show a lot#and stop using it like it’s some cool fun meme word when I know that you’d look at me like I was some kind of freak#if you knew about half the shit I’ve done because of hyperfixation#or at the very least you’d call me ‘cringe’#anna talking about stuff#vent#internet meta#internet culture#hyperfixation#neurodivergent#neurotypical#adhd#actually adhd#audhd#actually audhd
