Brocedes coded songs: new perspective by Noah Kahan

I've decided more people need to be exposed to my insanity so here we go.

[verse 1]

"Ooh, silence is making me nostalgic"

referring to Monaco 2014 where Nico and Lewis couldn't even look at each other much less talk to each other (this is the real brocedes divorce not Spain 2016)

"Oh, we were kids, but that don't make this less hard"

self explanatory, but also Lewis' "well, we're not friends". Literally where their friendship died.

[pre chorus]

"Paper bags drift wherever the wind blows And mine's full of receipts"

How intertwined racing is with their friendship, and how Lewis and Nico have no way of separating their careers from the memories of their karting days.

[chorus]

"Ooh, this town's for the record now The intersection got a Target And they're calling it downtown"

The changing town as a symbol for Nico and Lewis finally both making it to a top tier team and fighting for championships. "The record" bringing in the question of whether Mercedes' legacy is going to be tied to Lewis or Nico.

"You and all of your new perspective now Wish I could shut it in a closet And drag you back down"

The "new perspective" referring to the mutual decision to put the championship above their friendship. Alternatively, it's the feeling that the other was the one who chose to put the championship first, and the wish to go back to the way things were.

[Verse 2]

"Gave me your word and now I can't pronounce it No thing so sure that I can't learn to doubt it"

Greece. The promises they made in their karting days.

"Now the state bird, it sings our song so out of key"

Teammates again but it's so so wrong. It's everything they wanted but not how they wanted it.
