RIKKI & SYLVIA
🎃 Closed starter: @xsylcuenco
🎃 Event: Spook Fest ‘22
🎃 Location: Movie barn
Tumblr media
her small pumpkin-shaped basket was full of caramel popcorn and fun-size candy bars and raquelle carefully made her way through the crowd to find one of the last unoccupied hay bales. casper was probably one of the only spooky movies she could handle, and nothing could beat watching it at the festival. while she was still standing up, removing her back-pack to reveal a much needed knitted blanket as the evening was chilly, she noticed a familiar face. “sylvia?” she called out the name, causing a couple of strangers’ heads to turn in her direction. “you can sit next to me if you’d like! i have enough snacks to share... well, i hope so!”

SPOOK FEST '22
location: Harmony Ranch, countryside of Merrock
time: October 22 - October 29
It's time to get spooky, friends! The annual Spook Fest is kicking off at Harmony Ranch, and will run from October 22nd through October 29th. This event will be happening daily, from 5PM until 11PM EST, and is for adults and kids alike! (Although be warned... some of the events might be kind of scary.)
There will be several food trucks pulled up to the ranch, providing some of your favorite goods, as well as some local favorites! Catch s'mores and hot dogs over the open fire, and if you're thirsty, check out the punch tent for lots of spooky goodies.
For those who are into the super scary stuff, head over to our haunted house, or take a ride through the woods on the haunted hay ride. There's also the corn maze, but -- well, you know. It's haunted.
If you're not as into the scary stuff, walk through our pumpkin patch! Grab some gourds from the bin! Make a Halloween-themed wreath or swag at our craft table, or try your hand at making and stuffing a scarecrow! Get your face painted with a little jack-o-lantern! Paint or carve pumpkins to take home with you! Movies will be projected on the side of the barn, so grab a hay bale and your snacks and watch Hocus Pocus, the Craft, Beetlejuice, Casper and other Halloween staples.
Basically... get out there and have a haunted good time.
MOD NOTE: feel free to start threads anytime between the 22nd and 28th, as usual! After that time, please don't start new ones, but you're welcome to continue existing ones as long as you'd like. This is not our dress-up event, so costumes should be just for funsies and aren't required! As usual, feel free to tag your social posts with #merrocksocial!

6 Events to Go to Instead of the Texas State Fair
Written by Danielle Ransom
The State Fair of Texas has been long marked Texas’ transition from summer to fall where Texans come together and celebrate everything that makes the Lone Star state so great, from its live music, assortment of fried foods, alcohol drinks, and exhibitions you wouldn’t find anywhere else. But, it’s also expensive between paying for parking, admission, food, games and other things that are not included with admission.
Not to mention, if you hate being around big crowds in a limited capacity then this may not be the fair for you. Over 2 million people visited the The State Fair of Texas during its 2016 exposition and that number is sure to be higher this year with all the new, exciting dishes, exhibitions and events coming. Transition to the fall with these adventurous events that will take from strolling through a Pumpkin Village to outer space.

HAPPY FIRST OF OCTOBER!
First full month of fall! And that also means it’s time to dive into lots and lots of Halloween and spooky fun around here, as you can see with our upcoming events and parties! It should be a pretty fun month around Merrock -- we can’t wait to see your costumes, and just know that we’ll have some fun, saucy plots on dash, too, which makes us happy. After our team building month in September, we’re really hoping to see you guys continue to put priority into starters, branching out to other writers, being as inclusive as possible, and just continuing to make Merrock a welcoming, friendly place to call home.
HAPPENING IN OCTOBER:
october 7-10 -- Shelter Appreciation Weekend: a fun event to both give back to our local animal shelter, and also to help find homes for the animals who would love to have their own families.
october 15 -- new location opening: keep your eyes open, this will be a surprise!
october 22-29 -- spook fest: a family-friendly, town-wide celebration of the Halloween season. think Creek Fest, but if there were spooky ghosts and people chasing you with fake chainsaws. less a town celebration, more a big fright
october 29-30 -- the big spookover: our big costume event in town; everyone will be spending the night partying in the haunted house this year! event will be adults only, but make sure you have those spooky, sexy, awesome costumes ready.
october 31 -- trick-or-treat: for the kiddos, or the adults who want to stay at home passing out candy. again, costumes are encouraged, but absolutely not required.
mini-events in town: on October 1st, we have national coffee day, which means lots and lots of coffee for our townspeople. Football games are as follows: away on October 7th (loss), home on October 14th (win), away on October 21st (win), home on October 28th (win). Homecoming is October 14th!
EXTRA BIT OF FUN:
We’re back to development tasks this month, and have chosen a questionnaire for everyone to fill out to get to know their character a little bit better -- you can check that out here. It has no timeline to complete, and you can do it any time of the year, but it’ll give you something to do this month! Stay tuned later in October for a fun little Halloween decor task, as well.
RULE CHANGES & REMINDERS:
to neaten things up, I have completely updated our rules page. There have been several small changes, so I am asking that everyone please read the RULES PAGE to refamiliarize with the rules and make note of anything you might not have been aware of. Thank you!
Something else new that we want everyone to check out is our NPC / townspeople page! We have faces to put to the names of some of our local business owners and politicians, and moving forward you will find these people mentioned and used in our town.
THINGS BEHIND THE SCENES:
the NPCs listed up above (or here!) will be used next month in our election, which everyone will be able to participate in! Stay tuned for more information as we go along.
this month, I will be busy planning our trip! any and all help with keeping dash active, fun and inclusive is super appreciated, as a mod’s work is never done, and sometimes we need the help.
although events will take a small dip through the holiday season, we have our Thanksgiving food drive, some shopping around town and our 5K run/walk coming up in the month of November, outside of the trip!
Let’s head into the month of October with a bounce in our step. After all, Halloween is right around the corner... mwahahaha. xx

monday; first full week of fall!
Good morning, Merrockites! I wanted to pop in here before going about my life, mostly just to draw attention to all of the new events and happenings in Merrock over the next month or so!
While all of the events can always be found on our town bulletin board, to give you a rundown, we have announced the Shelter Appreciation Weekend (October 7-10), Spook Fest ‘22 (October 22-29), the Big Spookover (October 29-30), Trick-or-Treating (October 31) and our Costa Rica trip (November 6-20). While I do ask that everyone like the Costa Rica trip post to acknowledge they have seen it and the conditions of the trip, it’s always nice to get likes on the others to show your interest, too!
October is also right around the corner, and we do have a development resource coming up (back at it!), and I’ve already got most of the work done on our monthly post, so we’re heading full steam ahead towards one of our favorite months. Plus, we have lots of exciting things coming up.
To tidy up some mod work -- acceptances will be Monday and Friday this week, as I will be away on Thursday and don’t want to keep anyone waiting in case I’m sleepy when I get back! But we have spots open, so if anyone is lurking... we’d love to have you! xx
