     There had been very little time wasted after Harmony had gotten the information she needed out of Rough and Tumble. Her teammates had made sure she finished her hot chocolate and ate a bit before racing off with her back towards the inn. They knew that this was important and there was one hedgehog who was also waiting for news. Since he had taken such good care of them, they would make sure he was given some good news.

     “Star!” Harmony’s voice carried before she jumped the few steps leading up to the Inn porch, ending with a tump as she smacked into the wall in the process. Thankfully she was helped up by Buddy without a second thought and allowed to approach the two sitting outside. “We know where daddy is.”

     And as she spoke, Buddy was also quick to bring up the holographic map with the location for them to see. It was in such a remote location, no one would have thought to look there. He transferred the location to Star’s communicator and Harmony hopped from one foot to the next.

    “We gotta go…” Her words were quick, hand reaching out to take Star’s but paused as Buddy placed his arm between them.

     “We should stay here. I don’t think this is a mission that we should go on…”

     “But…”

     “Mr Star and Shadow have a lot more experience in rescues than we do Harms.” Tangle chimed in. “We’d probably just get in the way.”

"A'right, so this first one is actually for all three of us," Star told the hybrids as he held three wrapped gifts in his arms. The first that he handed over was an absolutely massive, soft, thick blanket. One side multiple shades of deep blue and covered in stars, the other side void of any pattern but with plush fabric and a soft purple color.

"With how much we all end up in a pile together, I thought havin' a family sized blanket might be a good idea," he chuckled. Not that tug-o-wars for blanket coverage happened TOO often, but now they could all be easily wrapped up together with blanket to spare.

“Merry Yule... and, Merry Christmas~” Was he using multiple holidays as an excuse to give extra gifts? Yes absolutely, and he didn’t hesitate in placing the next two gifts in each hybrid’s lap.

      In the box for Harmony she would find three leather compartments meant to be easily attached to her belt. Each one having a magnetized button on the outside, with either drawstrings or zippers on the inside as secondary protection. If she were to open them, she would see that each one was already occupied. One holding a large and beautiful specimen of bolder opal, one containing a little grooming kit, and the last a few snacks.

“You’ll be surprised how quick your bag will fill up when you’re adventurin’. Now ya should have plenty of space, but I can get ya more of those if ya need.”

      Volt’s gift was something the blue hedgehog had been quite sneaky in grabbing, having done so while the hybrid had been with him. It was a necklace made with durable black rope, woven through and around three beads on each side made from gemstones that resembled the night sky. In the center, an oval shaped pendant made from a mesmerizing star sapphire. The thin strands of silver carefully manipulated to frame and hold it in a style that was unique to the island the necklace came from.

Although I think Volt is the only one watching it. Another soft piece for a good friend of mine who writes Sonic or Stardust as we like to refer to him as. The pair have a pretty solid relationship and I love seeing them being so soft together.

Nothing prompts it, but Star never felt he needed an excuse. He walks right up to Volt, bends just enough to lift the hybrid up into his arms and hold him tight as he presses their lips together in a deep, passionate kiss. Purrs rumbling in Star’s throat all the while.

It hadn't been expected and short quills might have raised for the moment his feet had left the ground, but Volt knew those arms well. The second he was pressed to the tan chest, he had relaxed completely and slipped his arms around his partner's neck to make sure there was hardly any space between them during that kiss.

A deep rumble of a purr rose from his own throat, becoming audible as his lips parted to coax the passionate kiss even further. That one kiss quickly became a second, then a third before Volt had to pull back just enough to catch his breath.

Muzzle flushed and tail flicking rather happily against Star's legs, he was grinning like a loon.

"'S not even my birthday yet~"

"Least he lives up to his name." Volt was glad Boomer was safe from that incident and that Fafo was no worse for the wear beyond a few scratches. The local ferals would think twice before coming into the garden again, that was for sure.

Shadow didn't consider himself great at gift giving, but he did his best regardless. Hopefully Volt wouldn't mind that Harmony's gift was a knife. A small one- in his opinion- the blade itself only about four inches, but beautifully crafted. The hilt and sheath were custom, and even adorned with a few small gems. A useful tool in many situations.

For Volt, a similar theme, but different use- a set of very high quality kitchen knives. Including the stones necessary to keep them sharp and in good condition. Plus, a box holding dozens of cards filled with recipes. They were categorized and easy to flip through. "Perhaps not as elegant as the book you gave me, but a lot of those recipes are from the fifties, and I can guarantee that they still hold up," Shadow told Volt with a small smirk. "Merry Christmas, you two."

     Seeing as this wasn’t the first knife that his daughter had been given, Volt wasn’t bothered at all by it. He knew she would be safe and take good care of it. If anything it might be useful if they were in a bind and she slipped it into one of her new belt pouches shortly after looking it over. 

     “Thanks ya Shadow!”

     Mainly because she had every intention of giving the striped hedgehog a hug in thanks. Volt had to chuckle as she rubbed her face against their friend’s chest fluff in the process before dashing off to join the nightly video call with her teammates. Time to show off the haul of the holidays. 

     If left the two alone in the living room for the time being and Volt smiled at the gifts set in his lap. He carefully looked over the knife set but his eyes were drawn far more quickly to the box of recipes. Of course he couldn’t hide the happy wiggle of his tail as he flipped through them and looked up to Shadow was a knowing smile. 

     “You know if I’m gonna be usin’ some o’ these recipes, you’re comin’ over t’ taste test ‘em with Star.” That wasn’t a question and he stood up in order to give the striped hedgehog a hug in thanks. “Merry Christmas Shadow.”

"Happy Valentine's day, my love~" Star purrs lightly as he leans closer to give Volt a quick peck, before handing him a large box of chocolate covered strawberries, and a bundle of wild flowers hand picked by the blue hedgehog himself.

The purr rose the moment he had felt his partner's lips. How could they not? He smiled when they parted taking the offered box and flowers. Although he didn't let Star get too far as he reached out to take a hand and use his other to also give a closed box.

"Happy Valentine's Liebe." Inside the box was a selection of insects with different flavors and spices. While it wasn't something the hybrid himself would eat, he knew that his boyfriend enjoyed them and did his research to make sure he only got him the best.

The only other thing he did, after setting the flowers in a vase where they could get sunlight, was to take one and carefully place it just behind one of Star's ears. He tipped his head up and nudged their noses together in affection before popping a strawberry into his mouth.

"Love you."

"Happy birthday, Harmony~" Star chirped as he wrapped his arms around the teen in a tight hug, before handing off his gift to her. Inside the thin wrapping was a large wooden picture frame that split and sectioned off artistically into multiple frames of different sizes.

Another beautiful piece by the hedgehog himself, carved from drift wood found in the area. Already prefilled with a few photos, some of their little family, some of Harmony's friends, and a few frames left blank.

"Feel free to change out any of the photos, and if ya have any ya want printed let me know and I'll get it done for ya," he told her with a smile, tussling her hair. No way she was getting away with him not doing that on her birthday.

While the sudden hug had gotten a light squeak of surprise from the teen, Harmony had been quick to return it right then and there. Sure the magic had already faded and she was back to her old self...

But the was a small amount of pride to see that she was that much closer to eye level with Star when he stood up straight.

The present was taken and opened, emerald eyes wide with awe as she looked at some very familiar photos. She held the frame almost tenderly. It was a thoughtful gift and one she planned to treasure as it was brought to her chest.

A giggle followed her bangs being messed up. With a shake of her quills, they were back in place and she could look up at him with that bright smile once more.

"Thanks dad. I know right where I'm gonna put it in my room."

Yet here he was, carrying the sizable orange kitten in one arm like a baby, and looking at Volt with big, pleading eyes, and a smile.

Volt should have expected this. When his partner had gone off with Harmony while the kittens had been growing, he should have known that at some point they were going to come back with one of them when it was time to find them homes.

The mama had gone to his good friend and his family, the grey and brown had gone to another, and the cream one was with someone he was sure going to spoil the kitten as if they were royalty. The only one who hadn't was the orange one which Volt assumed was because he was just so massive for a kitten.

He just couldn't let Star go without a little bit of teasing. Mismatched arms crossed and one brow raised while meeting peridot eyes. As if he could ever say no to his boyfriend.

Much less when he had the help of Harmony and her still effective puppy eyes.

"You're the one who is going to explain t' Boomer why she's the smallest out o' all o' 'em." Making a point to look at his partner one more time before closing the space for a kiss. Volt also might have taken a bit of time to give the new kitten some affection under his chin with a finger.

It was a good thing Volt was already supporting the hedgehog, because he was leaning in more and more heavily. Not so much losing his balance, but slowly going limp. Burying his face into Volt's shoulder while mumbling incoherently but clearly happy.

Until those mumbles were suddenly replaced by snores.

With only a bit of surprise at the sudden extra weight, Volt had easily shifted his stance to better support his partner. It was enough time for Harmony to snap a picture of his bright red muzzle with her camera, but thankfully she was willing to move back in and help get her dad back into bed. She snuck a hug with her father once Star was settled on his side of the bed and went back to her room.

For a moment, Volt just sat on the edge of the bed, watching his partner's chest rise and fall. Looking at the soft features illuminated by the moonlight drifting in from the window. One hand brushed against Star's cheek and then joined his other in drawing the blanket up to cover the hedgehog.

Those words still lingered in his mind... He couldn't forget them...

My husband

He shook his head as he made his way to the other side and settled under the covers. This time he placed one hand on Star's chest while resting his head on a tan shoulder. Hopefully, there wouldn't be any more sleepwalking adventures tonight.

Words cut off as fingers touched his cheek and blue ears perked as a trill-like purr rose in Star's throat. He didn't meet Volt's gaze, but only because his eyes shut instead as he leaned closer to nuzzle his face into Volt's cheek fluff while his tail continued to wag.

"Ooh! It's my husband~ Hello husband! I brought home pumpkins!"

Really, Harmony wasn't too bothered at leading her dad over to her father. And once the trade off was done, she was more than happy to step back and leave it at that. There was just so much to unpack with his words and he was better off in Volt's hands now.

She'd been just about to head back to her room when he paused and turned back just in time to see him close the space with Volt.

Oh, this was too good to pass up.

"St-Star!" Maybe a little taken off guard, Volt didn't stop the affection. If anything he was leaning into it and used his hands to support his partner in case he lost his balance. Yet if he thought his muzzle could have gotten any redder, he had been in for a surprise.

Husband

"Wha? Star...?" His muzzle nearly matched the tips of his ears in color. Did he mean that? It had to just be his partner talking in his sleep. It.. Had to be...

Right?

Star even started wagging his tail at Volt's appearance, then returned his attention to Harmony, eyes going wide again. "You're a pumpkin?"

Now the teen was starting to understand just what was going on. It didn't mean she wasn't still a bit weirded out by it, but she wasn't as worried as she had been. Once Volt had joined them, she nodded and carefully took one of Star's hands in her own to start making her way over to the older hybrid.

Just not before wrinkling her nose at the question.

This was way too freaking weird this late at night. "Dad.... 'S me. Harmony. I ain't a pumpkin. That's daddy's nickname for me."

Volt knew that all of that would likely go in one ear and out the other for his partner and only crossed the space in order to carefully touch the back of his fingers against Star's cheek.

"Easy love. Listen t' my voice.. You're sleepwalkin' again..." He kept his voice low, calming, as he looked into those peridot eyes. "Come on. Let's getcha back t' bed."

"Yeah." Sometimes whatever was going on in the sleepwalking hedgehog's mind just so happened to align with reality, for better or worse.

The touch to his arm made him jerk a little bit and he suddenly stepped back, again staring at Harmony, only this time he looked frightened. Then slowly moved closer to reach out and carefully extend a hand... bopped her bangs once. Twice. Three times. Before smooshing his entire hand into them.

"Whoa..." At least now he looked fascinated instead of scared, but what the hell.

Not exactly the reaction she had been expecting. Wide eyes met with concern and a tilt of the teenager's head as she closed the space with them. She was still trying to make sense of what was going on, but she took a step back when he jumped.

Mainly to keep from startling him again, but something clearly wasn't right.

"Are ya sure ya don't want me t' get daddy?" She turned to look towards the open bedroom door that Star had come out of, tempted to call out and see if her father would come to the doorway. When she went to turn, the hand reaching out caused a moment of pause.

She blinked with each touch, thoroughly confused with the entire action that she just remained that way as he pressed his hand into her bangs as if to ruffle them.

Okay... That was enough...

"Dad!" Her voice was only slightly raised. Not enough to be heard through the Inn, but enough to be able to hear the sound of shuffling from the nearby bedroom and Volt to step out into the living room.

"Pu-mpkin.. Wha...?" Volt looked over, confused and half awake until he saw Star. Thank Chaos he knew what he was looking at and managed to hold back a snort.

"He's asleep pumpkin. Try t' see if ya can coax him back t' bed."

While it wasn't often that Volt was up at odd hours, it wasn't strange for Harmony to be. So with her father out like a light, she had to raise a brow at the noise being made outside her room. Quiet as she could be, the teen opened her bedroom door and stuck her head out, immediately noticing the motion over in the kitchen.

"Dad?" The blue quills were a dead giveaway, but the conversations... "Uhh... Are you okay?"

Now she was out of her room and crossing the living room to get into the kitchen. Her steps were quiet but her face was scrunched up in concern. Once she was close enough, a hand was placed on Star's arm.

"Do.. Should I get daddy?"
