#yes this is a soul train post#has anyone read 'the city we became' by n.k. jemisin?#i just finished the audiobook and am trying to process how much i did not care for it#even though it is about anthropomorphic cities and INCLUDED AN ELDRITCH TRAIN#but i can't tell if i simply don't like audiobooks as a format or if i didliked the book itself#idk man it just felt underbaked#the characters weren't as well drawn as i wanted them to be and the narrative felt too floaty#like it was interested in its concepts but hadn't quite lived in them long enough to make them feel real and definitively imagined#otoh MAYBE I WAS JUST MAD BECAUSE A LADY WAS READING AT ME#and she was reading too slow for a book due back at the library tomorrow lol#anyway none of that is about bleach except that i have never been so deeply disappointed by a non-amtrak train in my life
