i dislike many takes on queen for a day and the following episodes that led up to varians downfall, so i will be sharing my own opinion because i cannot shut up. also im so so sorry but idk how to add “read more” and this is long. please feel free to skip past this post djdkskjddj

anyway. i really hate how some people treat zhan tiri’s blizzard. because theyll either act like rapunzel was completely in the wrong or theyll act like that was the only thing that went wrong for varian after the amber encased quirin, or theyll act like varian was completely in the wrong. and that is...that is all so Not Poggers

rapunzel couldnt go to quirin. she had a kingdom to save, innocent people to save. she couldnt stop for varian, no matter what her individual friends needed. her biggest mistakes during that blizzard were allowing varian to be thrown back out into the snow (seriously, that was really dangerous) and allowing nigel to begin telling people that varian had attacked her

varian, being 14, angry, and in pain, couldnt see that. he couldnt understand, or didnt want to understand, how she could have sent him away, how anything could be more important than helping his father. and thats understandable! really! teens and kids are rather self-centered by nature. whats important to them should be the most important thing in the world, and its hard to realize that there are things bigger than them, and i believe varian was dealing with that. very poorly dealing with that

however, the next mistake rapunzel makes is never checking on him afterwards. if i understood the timeline right, there were...months? in between varian finally losing it and rapunzel getting her emotions back in check after that blizzard. and king frederic definitely made it worse, telling her that old corona was definitely okay and quirin was fine (he was not fine. neither was varian). her forgetting about varian made it very easy for varians mental health to take a downwards spiral. especially when the guards (did he figure out they were guards?) started surrounding his house to go through and find that scroll

she also...didnt clear up the rumors about varian. she knew, because characters kept bringing it up to her face (idk why the writers made her act surprised when varian said it?? that never made sense to me). cass also didnt clear up the rumors, but this aint about her. the problem is those two mistakes pushed varian very far away. he couldnt even enter corona, because people thought he attacked rapunzel! he wasnt getting into the palace to ask for help again with that rumor going around, and at that point, he thought he was truly, truly abandoned, and that the only one who cared to save his father was...him

unfortunately, when rapunzel finally found and saw him, he...was already too far gone to believe she could actually care. he was trying to save his father and he’d already accepted that no one would help him unless he was manipulating the situation. and we all know his big ass mistakes after that, so i dont think i need to get into how he screwed up and why i cannot excuse his actions, but i can understand them
