I'm working on something that's not Sorry It's Locked right now (perhaps something that i was inspired to pick up again by seeing Sickmutes skully and the operator art hehehe) so have a snippet of it.
kinda nsfw? I guess what Alex says kinda insinuates the situation they're in (...and y'know, smut is just what I write for the most part, i consider myself a smut writer) putting it under a thingy anyway because i talk a bit more about the fic, and that is definitely a bit nsfw
Tumblr media
Anyway, no idea what this fic's gonna be called, but it's so self indulgent and has weird ass kinks in it. like, normal weird like tentacle sex and gunplay and super rough fucking, and also just, ones that are probably a little too weird to be considered normal weird? like getting filled with pitch black, inhuman cum so much it leaks out of your eyes and comes up your throat💀 so... yeah. theres that i guess.
I'm gonna have so much fun with it.
God knows why I ever stopped writing it. got caught up in sorry its locked probably

Hi! I don’t mean in any way to pressure you but I was wondering if you’re planning on continuing your fic “fortress”? I’d love to see it continue🥰 again no pressure I just really like your works!
Hi anon! Thanks for the message :)
Despite the hellishly long gap between updates, Fortress is not abandoned, and I do intend to finish it. It's actually pretty high up on my to-do list right now, and will be the next major thing I post once As A Friend is done.
Here's the order in which I plan to post DeanCas fics/updates over the next few months -- with some vague spoiler-adjacent-but-not-really-spoilery details for anyone who wants them:
Chapters 5 & 6 - As A Friend Roughly 35k words in total, split over these final two chapters. This will see Dean & Cas return to the bunker, announce their "fake" relationship to Sam & Jack, and then [redacted because I'm not giving the whole thing away even though you already know it's gonna be a happy ending].
Chapters 8, 9, & 10 - Fortress Roughly 22k words split between these three chapters. Chapter 9 (the during chapter in which Dean is suffering) & chapter 10 (the after chapter which follows the first days of Dean living with Cas after coming home) have been ready for a while, but chapter 8 (the before chapter, which features Robin's party when they were 16 👀 a party which you might recall was mentioned by Cas during the previous before chapter) has been holding them hostage. So as soon as 8 is ready I intend to post all three at once.
Oneshot - Hearts Beating Life (Into Each Other) Roughly 25k words of canonverse fuck-or-die fic. In which Cas gets cursed on a hunt, and you'll never guess what Dean has to do to save him..... lol. It'll probably get split into two or three chapters for readability, but I plan to post it all at once. This is only one final scene away from being complete at this point, but I want to finish As A Friend & update Fortress before I share it.
Chapter 8 - Isosceles Roughly 17k words, because this fic refuses to let me be succinct. Dean & Cas discuss more almosts, the angels make contact, we find out exactly what Sam said to Dean in chapter 4, Claire [redacted] when [redacted], Mary and Dean bond over [redacted], and the search for Kelly Kline picks up steam.
Chapters 3 & 4 - Empty Heroics Roughly 20k words split between these final two chapters. In which there is bed sharing, a plan is formulated, and Nobody Dies. I realize that barely anyone even read the first two chapters of this fic, but I still really like it and want to finish it off, so it's the fifth thing on my to-do list.
Oneshot - As-Yet-Untitled Shrinking Curse Fic Roughly 10k words of canonverse established relationship PWP. In which they've been together for literally three days when Dean gets hit with a shrinking curse that won't wear off for a year, and comes up with a creative solution to ensure that they can still enjoy the physical aspects of their new relationship despite being small enough to perch on Cas' shoulder.
Chapter 1 - One More Chain Does The Maker Make Roughly 10k words, and the first of five chapters. The whole fic should come in around 50-60k words, and it's canon-divergent from 15.06. Featuring a lot of pining, and Dean working on Jesse and Cesar's ranch. I posted about it here if you want to know more!
The final 5 chapters of Fortress & final 3 chapters of Isosceles will come next -- likely to be about another 30k and 45k respectively, based on current word counts and what remains to be written.
At some point in between all of this I also plan to post some updates to The Coda Project (I've written at least half of each coda up to 1.12 Faith at this point, I just need to buckle down and finish them off in order so I can start posting them again), along with a handful of short tumblr prompt meme ficlets I've written recently -- specifically, those based on the following six trios of emojis: [🧪🧛🏻‍♀️💦], [🔮🛁🫂], [🤠🎶🌬️], [🪼👀🎨], [🥬🍅✨], and [🥶😶‍🌫️🤯], all of which ended up being significantly longer than they should have been, hence the delay in posting them.
...aaaand I realize that this is far more information than you asked for so I apologize. But thanks again for your message, and for reading. I hope you enjoy all the updates when they're posted 💚

Hi I just emerged from a haze of reading all 513,000 words of CTB in less than a week. I have so many Thoughts that I can't condense into something readable. I am rotating the boys in my head like a microwave. I don't know what to do with my life now that I have to Sit Here with no one around me to talk to about this story. Thank you for everything.
How carefully/detailed are your chapter outlines, if you use any? Do you have a vague idea or is it carefully plotted? How intentional is the pacing of the past story vs the present story (like when to show events in the past relative to when they're referenced in the present)?
No, thank YOU for being a sane person and NOT reading the entire story in one day lol
For story outlines, I split the difference between having everything planned and making shit up as I go. Here's a photo of my outline for everything from the sixth chapter up until Spirit's return:
Tumblr media
(You can see here that there's a lot of shit that got changed or deleted entirely, but you get the idea.)
So you can see that I have broad strokes figured out in advance-- basic plot stuff like "character does x-- as well as a few smaller story beats. I wait until I'm about to write a chapter to figure out a play by play of what needs to happen.
My main reason for doing this is that I think figuring out the plot is the funnest part of writing, so having outlines that are too thorough saps out all of the enjoyment. But plotting like this gives me a lot of flexibility to add or remove ideas/scenes based on feedback from readers.
The best example of this is that plot point there labeled "Travel to Cia." That is a chapter better known as the Fever Dreams. I came up with the entire fever dream sequence when I realized that I needed to go into more detail about how Warriors grew up. (This is one of the many reasons why I love getting all kinds of feedback and comments from you guys-- it lets me know what I need to add or take away to tell the story right).
For pacing, everything was anchored around making sure the child leaves the war (in the past) happens in the same chapter as when Spirit arrives (in the present). I believe I wrote out everything that happened in the present day first, then paced out everything in the past based on it.
Managing the information economy was surprisingly easy, all things considered. Warriors is the only character who knows the entire story, but he is reluctant to even think about what happened. So when something is mentioned in narrative, he only provides Just Enough Context for the reader to get what happened, but none of the details.
From there, the other characters can just organically bring up what little they know. It helps that I didn't care if readers knew what happened in the past before it happened. The tension in the past isn't that readers don't know what's going to happen. It's that readers know how the story ends but they don't know HOW it'll get there.
Plus, it's important for writers to remember that your readers aren't inherently on the same brainwave as you. Unless you explicitly tell them something, there's a high chance they are not going to connect the pieces the same way you do. I thought I was giving the whole goose away with explaining what happened in the past; in reality, readers got all the pieces but none of the glue that connected them together.
And if people do put it together? Good! They can sit in agony knowing they can't stop what will happen.

OF CRYSTAL ROSES (EXTENDED AUTHOR’S NOTE OF CHAPTER VI. OF CASTLES)
-- TO READ THE CHAPTER ITSELF, SEE HERE ON AO3 --
Tumblr media
well, well, well. here we are. spoiler alert, gryffindors make plans they don’t stick to, lolz. all the good intentions in the world, i had. study, i said i would. yet, here were find ourselves, eighteen thousand words later. this appears to be how i roll. slept about five hours last night, too, so apologies if i’m slightly non-sensical/rambly. this chapter ought to be sponsored by deliveroo and teapigs tea, a brand of tea that appeared in my local supermarket a few moths ago and that i steadily refused to buy because - can tea really be worth this much? low and behold, once you’ve tried it once, it appears to be addictive. i’ve, while writing this chapter, worked my way through about four packs of their different teas - they are just this good. i have a job interview tomorrow so wish me luck in gaining employment which will hopefully fund my expensive habits.
now, before we get into the nitty gritty of the chapter, itself, i just needed to say this: i cannot thank everyone enough for the incredible response on last chapter. i’d kind of grown accustomed to getting a couple of reviews for each of them and to writing in my little corner of the internet but boy, you guys are bloody legends! i am so overwhelmed with gratitude for everyone who commented, kudo-ed and generally gave love to this fic in general. i really didn’t expect such a response and it’s meant the world to me. i think it’s probably also the reason why i’m posting so early because i kept being like, god, i can’t leave this many people waiting in this cliffhanger hell. i think this chapter ends on a more positive note (although, i’ll let you judge), one that might be more conducive of a few weeks’ wait (more on that below), haha.
this being said, as i explained on here before, i come from very tiny fandoms where basically everyone knows each other and the number of people reading would usually fit in my flat. the fact that over 80 people are now subscribed to this fic just blows my fucking mind. you’re all magnificent and i love you. i try to respond to all the comments so let’s keep chatting if you feel like it (although, no pressure - comment if you want to, but do know that it makes me very happy when you do :)). you’re all fabulous and i wish you all the best!
anyway, spoilers for castles, chapter vi under the cut.
guys, guys, guys, i am so tired. i’ve spent four days editing almost 20,000 words and my brain is fried. but, we are officially at the halfway point of this story, yaaaay!!! my plan, at this point, is that we’ll have six chapters on each side but even if i do end up splitting this one later (more on this below) i’ll end up with seven chapters on each side so either way - yay to the end of act 1!
i think that’s also why i tried to turn this chapter around this quickly. to me, i always kind of saw this fic as having two parts. part 1: the immediate post-war aftermath with the heartache and the love-fast/burn-fast start to harry/ginny. part 2: a slow and actually healthy rebuild of their relationship, and of the world around them. i have genuinely been writing towards that last harry/ginny scene in this chapter for months. it feels like such a relief to finally have that weight off my shoulders. and i actually do think it’ll allow me to focus on study later. act one is finished, and act two can wait a bit, i suppose.
now, obviously, given that i already apologised last time, part of me still wants to apologise for the length of this chapter, even more so, actually. it sits at about 18,000 words which, by nanowrimo’s standards, is over a third of a full book, wtf. yet, you guys also said last time that you didn’t actually mind long chapters, so perhaps i shouldn’t beat myself up too much?
as i said in the a/n, this is a little bit of different set up than chapter v. though. i know exactly where to split this. as you’ve probably seen by now, there’s a very natural split point after harry has his breakdown on the couch with ginny, before Christmas properly "starts." the reason i didn’t split this one there, though is: a) selfish: i needed to get this out. stop working on it. i need to study. when it’s out, i’m not thinking about it anymore. it would have been a bit non sensical to split this just for the sake of it and post two chapters at once, which means i probably would have held onto the second part for another couple of weeks, and fuck that. additionally, b) you may not have noticed this but: the chapter titles rhyme. why did i bring this additional difficulty upon myself, i do not fucking know. especially because i will soon run out of one-word construction materials to draw from, lol. as a result, though, i need an even number of chapters to close out this story and because i’m sort of planning six chapters from now to the end (more on that below) i can’t really split this one right now. like, if i end up with another overlong chapter in the next few months, i probably will take that opportunity and go back and split this one, just for readability. but at this stage, at this stage, because i don’t know how many chapters i’ll have for act two (six or seven), i’m keeping this chapter like this for the time being. i kind of hope i end up with seven chapters on the other side and am able to split this one down the line, but we will see. in the meantime, my most sincere apologies to the folks who read fanfiction before bed and it’s now 4 am by the time you’ve finished this. i’ve been there before, believe me.
from a personal standpoint, though, i have to say, this chapter (compared to the last one) was incredibly easy to write. i think i’d spent so much time imagining and writing these scenes in my head as kind of a culminating point for the first half of the story, that it quite simply poured out. i did have a little bit of an everything is shit crisis yesterday and today, but sure look, that always happens. overall, i am quite happy - i think - with the end result.
now, when i say "easy to write" i mean, technically, easy to find words to write down what was in my head. i do not mean: easy to write on an emotional level. oh boy. i’m generally not a crier. i have been asked, a number of times, by people who said my writing made them cry: do you cry when you write, too? and my answer was always ‘no’. i don’t judge, but i’m just not that kind of person. i know people who cry every day but personally, we are in the middle of a pandemic, my father recently passed away, i’ve lost my job and am studying for an exam my life is pretty dependent upon, and i haven’t cried in months. yet, i swear, there were a couple of times, both writing this and editing it, when i had to step away from the screen because i could feel a lump in my throat. that had never happened to me before. i didn’t, like, bawl or anything but god i felt it. i don’t know if it’s because it’s my first time killing an oc, someone who was really mine but boy. giulia. i kept trying to find ways not to kill her, or apologising to her. to me, she’s tom’s last victim and that really, fucking hurts. if you’re hurting too, i don’t really know what to tell you. i’m sorry, i suppose. her death was needed for … plot purposes, lol. god, i’m the worst haha.
re:harry/ginny: i must say i really like where they end up, at the end of this. i had planned this to a certain extent. i was always under the impression that they would talk over christmas, but not get back together. however, the reason why they weren’t getting back together, in my head, was initially quite different. i initially didn’t have ginny dating someone else. i think i mentioned i was toying with the idea in the a/n for last chapter, but at the time i wasn’t truly sold on it. then, i ended up writing the scene i’d originally planned for them and it didn’t quite fit. what i’d planned, at the time, felt rather ooc for ginny when actually on paper. on the other hand, harry, under my fingertips, kept trying to kiss her and i kept hitting the delete button. i swear, i know it sounds weird to people who might not be writers but sometimes, your characters really do seem to have their own agendas. when i caved, let him kiss her, then the scene took on a different meaning, and, i hope, a better one. i think something clicked there and it feels like a good place for act one to end. obviously, they’ll get back together cause this follows cannon so you know, not much suspense there. it’s more about the how than the what, to me.
re:ginny’s letters: this idea came to me a while ago, actually. i was thinking that they’d need to talk about what happened last year, but i was kind of struggling on the how. having character a tell a story to character b is always a bit difficult, in writing, because it can quickly end up being boring. like, when ginny tells harry about christmas last year and lupin, in this chapter, telling that in dialogue is already rather long an laborious, and it’s overall such a short story. for harry, it’s easy. i’m in his head so he can just say ‘he told her about the hallows’ and the dialogue can be about their reaction, rather than the events itself. but ginny, she needs to share facts, as well as feelings. and doing that through long monologues just didn’t appeal. first, it’s quickly boring and second, it’s also kind of ooc. she’s not giulia, you see.
i did entertain the idea of completely skimming past it. ‘she told him about last year and he was horrified.’ - moving on. but, i don’t know, that didn’t feel quite right either, because i think they need to exchange, and talk, and that just felt like a copout. also, to be honest, it’s a very difficult story to tell. like, i’ve seen people in fics being like ‘so, harry sat down all of the weasleys and told them everything the trio did in seventh year,’ and i’m like that’s so difficult, though. sitting someone down and telling them all about your trauma, with little preamble, just setting it all out there, i can’t imagine ginny (or, frankly, most people) actually doing that, you know? we reveal bits of ourselves bit by bit, not all at once.
then, it hit me: she’s a writer, isn’t she? at least, she is canonically in first year, with not only the diary but also the poems, then writing for the prophet. obviously, the diary thing would have riled her up a bit but i do think in the end, she would probably have been like: no, i won’t let him take writing away from me, you know? so yeah, letters. daily letters. you won’t see all of them in next chapter, but probably quotes from the most important ones, things that harry reads. that’s where he gets his facts about her story last year, and then they can focus on their feelings about it. fab! something to look forward to, haha.
now, re: the future. as i said, we are entering act two. act two will gradually become more "fun" and fluffy, i suppose, but i won’t lie, we will be keeping the same happy/sad vibe that a lot of you have commented on with this fic. it exists for a reason (as i said, life is about sex, but it’s also about funerals). as i said before, this fic is, above all, an exploration of what ‘all was well’ actually means.
this being said, this isn’t an 8th year fic. there is a very specific future pov from which this fic is being narrated, and that’s in october 2027 (i know, precise). obviously i have 28 years to get through in act two so that will affect the way that the timeline is designed. it will obviously be more spread out, especially in the later chapters. this being said, while i have about a million of ideas for all the space in between and a very clear view of what the last chapter will be, the exact layout of each chapter is still slightly blurry. i haven’t sat down to put all my ideas in chronological order yet, as well as into some sort of chapter structure, which is also why i can’t really tell if it’ll be six or seven chapters in the end. all of this to say, there’s still quite a bit of work to be done.
this means that, as i said in the a/n, i don’t think you’ll get next chapter until at least, may. please don’t think that this means i’ll be abandoning this fic or anything, it’s just that i’ll be doing work you probably won’t see. i’m probably going to take the rest of march off writing to study (bar maybe a roar-series Harry&Hermione friendship one shot? maybe) then take april to plan and write as much of the next chapters i possibly can. ideally, by the end of april i can have a first draft of the whole thing. i desperately want to write as much as i can now that I’m jobless in the hopes that when i do find a job (again, interview tomorrow, pray for me), i can just have editing to do at the weekends. but we all know i relate to harry on a very deep level when he says ‘when have our plans ever worked, anyway?’ so we will see, haha.
anyway, these were all the thoughts off the top of my head, re: this chapter. if you have any questions or other things you’d like me to ramble about, feel free to send in questions, my ask box is always open. i know i probably think about this fic (and hp) way too much but i’m an extrovert and my hobbies used to include travelling, pints at the pub, dating and, well, there’s none of that anymore, is there, lol? the uk has stolen our vaccines (fucking brexit) so here’s to being obsessed with fictional worlds i wish i could live in for a while longer,
i will now go and endlessly refresh my email for reviews and kudos, like the attention seeking basic bitch i am haha.
have a fab evening, everyone!

(most of my) writing updates beginning May 8 2014 (as found on my Lunaescence profile (afaik no one reads AO3 profiles, so I don’t post on it). I had just started updating after about at least five years iirc. I didn’t start recording these updates until May 8, but they actually began whenever I added chapter 2 to both of these fics (Dec 2013 or Jan 2014), which I had culled down most of the bad original writing (including the entirety of chapters past ch. 1) from in the years before.
Writing Updates: May 8/14- Insanity and BnF both had chapter six added April/24/14, and are now approved (May 4 and 8) May 18/14- Both sevens have rewritten, completed, uploaded, and are awaiting approval. July 28/14- Sevens both approved and posted. Aug 6/14- Working on typing the eights. Taking my time a bit since the queue's closed. Aug 20/14- Now that I note the queue is open, I'm hurrying up again. Insanity 8 is almost done, I'm not sure where I want to put the chapter break. It's over 1000 words but I wanted to cover more plot than I have. Working on BnF 8 now, expect to upload this weekend. Aug 21/14- BNF 8 finished (3220 words) and uploaded, so here's hoping I didn't screw it up and it goes through. Insanity I'm still not sure where to end, but will be uploaded soon. Chapter 9 of BNF is plotted on paper. Aug 28/14- Insanity 8 is very nearly ready for uploading.  Around 2700 words, just needs to be wrapped up, which I'm not doing at 2:30am on a weekday. Plus, giving the mods some spacing what with the rush right now and stuff. Sept 9/14- BNF 8 is up and readable Sept 22/14- I've been sick. I'll try to get updates done for both stories soon. I'm having second thoughts on what's done so far in Insanity 8, which is why it didn't end up just wrapping up and getting posted. Sept 23/14- Insanity 8 is uploaded, awaiting approval. Starting the 9s today. Oct 9/14- Somewhat unexpectedly I am moving, so that will slow down the next uploads. Nov 21/14- Moved in, internet, etc, and not completely buried in stuff, and so BnF 9 is written and has been uploaded. Assuming no grievous errors on my part, it should be approved within a couple weeks. Insanity's 9 has only begun. Nov 26/14- Insanity Ch. 9 is at about 2000/2500 words, so it should be uploaded to await approval within a couple days. Dec 17/14- Validated! Awesome, except that now I'm the only one to blame for slow updates. Dec 22/14- Insanity 9 is finally up, working on both 10s. Feb 12/15- BNF 10 is up Nov 17/15- BNF 11 is uploaded Dec 1/15- BNF 12 is uploaded Dec 2/15- Insanity 10 is framed and started, BNF 13 is framed Dec 3/15- Insanity 10 is uploaded. Insanity 11 is somewhat planned. Dec 17/15- Started a Mushishi one shot. 540 words of probably 2-3k. Dec 29/15- Added further plans for BNF and Insanity's upcoming chapters Dec 30/15 Started a Hellsing one shot, planned an Inuyasha one, and started BNF 13 Dec 31/15- Insanity 11 is started. Jan 4/16- BNF 13 completed and posted, 14 is written. Jan 5/16- BNF 14 edited and posted Jan 7/16- BNF 15 started. Jan 23/16- Insanity 11 is posted Feb 15/16- Insanity 12 is started. 1200 words so far, expect 2.0-3.5k total Apr 18/16- [2am] Insanity 12 is up. BNF 15 will be next up Apr 18/16- [morning] BNF 15 is completed and up. Ins 13 and BNF 16 vaguely planned. Working on Hellsing fic as a refresher. Apr 18/16- [evening] I'm very excited by my Hellsing fic, currently at 3000+ words. Apr 18/16- [late late] Hellsing fic complete [6600ish words] awaiting editing and optional epilogue. This was a very accomplished day. Apr 20/16- Hellsing fic (Wingates Manor) complete and up at 7100 words May 9/16- BNF 16 written and posted. ~1500 words. Insanity 13 started May 12/16- Insanity 13 is 2100/3000ish words. Need to review some material to write Izumi. Starting BNF 17 while I find that. Aug 18/16- Insanity 13 edited and posted Aug 19/16- One shot Gravity Falls drabble written and posted Aug 24/16- BNF Chapter 17 written and posted Jan 27/17- Been on Lunaescence for 10 years! Mar 14/17- Updates for BnF and Insanity written in anticipation of Lunaescence launching. Started Insanity ch. 15 Mar 15/17- Luna is back! Mar 15/17- Various continuity/time corrections for Insanity and BnF. Hoping to upload new chapters, but getting an error. Mar 16/17- Various errors sorted out and both BNF and Insanity are updated Mar 17/17- Realized I've been on Luna for over ten years May 3/17- Worked on Insanity ch. 15 and better tied it together. ~2000 words now, will either be a little longer if I split it, or a lot longer if I fit the next piece into the same chapter. Jan 22/18 - Wrote and uploaded Insanity chapter 16 Nov 18/18 - Wrote short chapter 17 (~800 words) to Ins, uploaded to Ao3 Nov 19/18 - Reformatted and uploaded Ins chapter 17 to Luna Nov 20/18 - Insanity ch. 18 written (~2100 words) and uploaded Dec 2/19 - Insanity ch. 19 written and uploaded to AO3 Dec 4/19 - Insanity ch. 20 started Dec 5/19 - Insanity ch. 19 reformatted and uploaded to Luna Dec 5/19 - Insanity ch. 20 written and uploaded to AO3 and Luna Dec 5/19 - Insanity ch. 21 plotted, first sentences down Feb 13/20 - BNF ch. 19 completed and posted to AO3 Feb 20/20 - Insanity ch. 21 completed and posted to AO3 Apr 24/20 - BNF ch. 20 completed and posted to AO3 Apr 27/20 -  BNF chs. 19 and 20, plus Insanity ch. 21, reformatted and posted to Luna. Thorough and Readable (but expensive) This textbook was required by a class and panicked when I saw the prices for buying it. Being able to rent it cut the price to a third and made it affordable. Had I realized the quality of the info and the readability of the text, I might have considered continuing the search for a cheaper used copy to purchase, rather than rent. $60 for a rental is a lot and most textbooks I've found are not worth that. This one would be worth buying for that price (but not the almost $300 a new one goes for). Because mine was used, it did not include the MyArtsLab disk. I could have purchased it for $100, but after discussing it with my professor, decided to take the risk that I might not have access to some info and risk a lower grade. She didn't think it would cost me more than a letter grade. She was right. I was able to use what was in the book to learn the material and write the thorough critiques/comparisons she expected for class.I had to do some small amount of Internet searching for the extra insights needed for some of the assignments, but I was able to easily find what I needed in the book, without the expensive "publisher's content" available with the MyArtsLab purchase. (I made an A!) Go to Amazon
just what it sounds like, but i wish it would lay out some ... just what it sounds like, but i wish it would lay out some of the distinct characteristics of the art in the chapters by time-period, I also wish it would have a vocabulary list at the end of the chapter, which vocabulary is not really very full. it is missing terms. I wish it would section off the each chapter under bolded or underlined sections according to painting, and it does not have a lot of paintings in it. it feels more like a shortened version of a bigger book. it doesn't seem to describe or explain the paintings symbols or styles very much, it mostly just explains the context in which the painting was given and the art theory. I really thought that art history was looking at the art in it's context with the composition, yes, but also what was going on in the picture, why some things are the way they are, what philosophy related to what parts of the paintings. Analysis is a big part of any art history class, a part which i thoroughly enjoy, and just some of the history is in there and some descriptions of the paintings, the painters, but not in much detail even. i would rather have a bigger book than not enough detail. This is from a student who has to read the book for class, but i've found i can pass the class just fine without the book. Go to Amazon
it's a good book, lots of pics and text anayzing the ... Book came quickly, described accurately by vendor, just expensive for its size and I think it's part of the original volume, which I think is now split into three volumes, making it a bit more expensive. On the other hand, it's a good book, lots of pics and text anayzing the pics. I feel like I got my money's worth Go to Amazon
It is full of interesting information as well as beautiful artwork. I would definitely recommend this textbook for ... Very interesting and informative textbook for learning about art history. I was required to purchase this book for a class I took while working on my Associates degree and I was actually impressed with the textbook, which lets be honest...that isn't usually the case. It is full of interesting information as well as beautiful artwork. I would definitely recommend this textbook for anyone who wants to learn more about art history. Go to Amazon
Good Text, Oustanding Seller, Lousy Publisher One of the nicest textbooks I have ever used! The text was interesting and very readable, the maps and history really added to the art. The only drawback, and it is a biggie in an art book, is the printing. The pictures of the subject art MUST be exactly of the piece being described. Fail! Go to Amazon
This book offers a fascinating glimpse into a vast array ... This book offers a fascinating glimpse into a vast array of human cultures and the ways they have expressed themselves through art over millennia. After you read it, you may catch yourself evaluating what type of columns your local administrative buildings use, or recognizing technical terms in everyday places you never noticed before. It's quite an interesting jaunt through the little corners of humankind's creative history. Go to Amazon
Beautiful First off I would like to say that this book is huge and heavy. A total back breaker. With that said the content of the book is well written and the artwork depicted is splendid. I had to get this for a class I'm taking and thought I would sell it back at the end of the school year but changed my mind. I can't get pass the beauty of this product. As well as the detailed history that Marilyn Stokstad provides. It's thorough and to the point without being dry. Which makes learning about the history of Art more fun in my eyes. I believe anybody will enjoy having this book whether or not you are taking a college course or not. It's a definite conversation piece. Not something to be plowed through (especially topping at a 1000 pages)but something you can go back to time and time again to explore the different cultural aspects of art. Yes it's a hefty price tag but well worth the cost. Can't say that about the many textbooks I had to purchase over the year. This one is a keeper. Go to Amazon
