Which OC have you had the longest that you still do things with? Do you have a preference for writing this OC, or drawing this OC? What was the inspiration behind them?
okay so im gonna answer this for iz ocs only and that would be.... the one, the only........ pip
i LOVE writing pip, they’re just... genuinely a really fun character? even when i wasnt into invader zim as hard as i was now, id still go back to them from time to time, they’re just... so enjoyable! theyre like, the only OC i talk about on here (i on god have like, 100.... i should publish my razr fanchild at some point hes cute) and honestly i dont mind it?
and the inspiration..... okay this is a really weird story and i finally get to tell it in its entirety so here goes. the real story behind pip’s conception:
they were a joke character in my podcast.
thats IT, that was their entire purpose.... at first. the podcast is a supernatural/comedy podcast, and a spirit realm full of a mix of dead people and spirit-born spirits is An Location. pip’s joke was that they were clearly a half-irken hybrid, but nobody really acknowledged it. they sometimes talk about weird anecdotes about their fathers, either without differentiating or differentiating by height, and all the time itd be some random tangentally-related thing that painted pip and their folks to be Abso Fucking Lutely Insane. pip was originally called pride, as they were part of a seven-deadly-sins-themed group of (at the time) petty pranksters. it was that and also Hybrid Jokes (which is why they’re intersex, genderfluid, and bisexual. theyve evolved past Hybrid Jokes but i didn’t want to change any of that.... in ANX, there are non-hybrid characters that are those things too)
and then i asked the million-dollar question: “if they’re in the spirit realm.... how did they die?” since one of their character traits was that whatever it was, they really didn’t like to talk about how they died.
and then their story expanded: they were an experimental hybrid-child created by dib to test the vitality of irken/human hybrids. they were born with two internal systems, one irken and one human, which can happen with hybrids; it’s a very rare complication. when their human half went through puberty, their irken half’s immune system started attacking the human system, which made the human system attack back, and it was an endless feedback loop until they died from it at age 16. shortly before their death, they found out they only exist because of an experiment, and not because of any genuine desire for someone to have a child, and it.... kinda fucked them up. “pride” became a moniker they took for a different reason- they’re “a being of hubris,” in their words
their arc in the podcast changed, too. their little group (of which they became the leader of) has a much bigger role in the overarching story (which i wont explain because its not relevant) and they have a personal arc of trying to go home to their father, zim, who they see as the only one who cared for them, and who they miss dearly
and now they have a protagonist role in ANX. just because i got waaay too attached to a joke character
and also they dont die in ANX. obviously lmfao. they ARE still sick but they get to not die from Sickness Disease at the age of baby. yay pip you go pip
i kinda wanna draw them again now tbh...... i love they
(also, between you and me- that’s not why they call themself “pride” in the current version of the podcast’s lore. they call themself that because growing up, zim would always call them his pride and joy. not that theyd ever admit that to anyone, though!)
