Adoption (Sidney Crosby)
Authors note: Hi friends I am working on a third part for undeserving, but I’m lacking inspiration and this came to me a few days ago so I just went with it. Any inspiration would be very appreciated and enjoy! (This is pretty short and there's something wrong with the spacing)
You had always wanted kids no questions asked. Ever since you were a little girl you knew you wanted three, two boys and a girl. Everyone you knew got pregnant easily and without complications. You and Sidney had been married for two going on three years and the one question everyone asked was when were you going to have children. In Pittsburgh it was basically tradition to have big families and the captain wasn’t excluded.
“Babe I’m back!” You could hear Sid shout from the foyer.
“In here!” You yelled back from your spot at the kitchen table stories written by your kindergartens spread around you.
“Hey hun.” He greeted kissing you. “Hi hunny.” You responded watching as Sidney moved to the fridge to grab a bottle of water.
“How was practice?”
"Good.” Sidney remained in the kitchen looking at something on the counter. “When did this come?” He held the baby shower invitation you had received in the mail from your cousin.
“This morning.” You went back to organizing your papers.
“Didn’t they just get married?”
“Mhm.” Your cousin had only been married for a short 5 months before announcing her pregnancy.
“Was it planned?” Sidney took the invitation from the counter and placed it on the fridge with a magnate.
“No.” Sid knew by your short responses that you wanted the conversation to be over or at least the subject changed.
“Do you want take out for dinner?”
You shook your head. “I can make something.”
“Remember when we first got married and I used to cook for you naked?” Sid smiled at the memory. It seemed like so long ago. You laughed clearing off the table.
“That was a good time, the food was subpar though.“
“That’s because half the time you never even let me finish making it before you jumped me.”
“I couldn’t help myself you looked so good.” You shrugged slapping his butt before opening up the fridge to get a drink. You found yourself staring at the purple and white invitation again.
“Hey.” Sidney’s voice was soft as his arms wrapped around your waist from behind.
“It’s not fair.” You didn’t anticipate for it to be hard to talk. You especially didnt intend for the tears that stung your eyes wanting so desperately to come out.
“I know.” Sidney kissed the side of your head. He took the tea our of your hand and placed it on the counter. “They didn’t even plan for this it just,” The words were stuck in your throat as more tears threatened to spill. “Happened.”
“I know.” was repeated again.
“We plan, we try, we want this and it doesn’t happen!” Your voice rose with each word. “Why does everyone get to have a baby, but us?” Sid wrapped his arms around you tight as you cried in his chest.
He let you ruin his shirt as he rocked you back and forth. He didn’t mind the snot stain as he kissed your forehead repeatedly. He wasn’t bothered that this wasn’t the first time you had cried about this, but rather he continued to whisper sweet things into your ear. Sidney picked you up and put you on the island and positioned himself so he was in between your legs.
“Look at me.” You sniffled and raised your head to look at your husband. “None of this is your fault.”
“But I’m the one who miscarried not you.” You reminded him of the incident that occurred nearly a year ago. “The doctor said it was me not you.”
“(Y/n) I don’t blame you for that, I don’t blame you for anything. You’re the one who said we were going to keep trying no matter what.”
“But it’s not working.”
“It will, I pushed dating off for so long so I could focus on hockey. You didnt give up though. Through everything you stuck with me. You knew we’d be together. I can’t even think of what life would be like if you hadn’t waited for me.“
“Waited for the best.” You attempted at a joke.
“sometimes waiting’s the best.”
“And we get to be great dog parents first.” You looked down at your dog on the floor.
“And we get to have a lot of practice at making the baby which is arguably the best part of having one.“
“Is it?”
“Absolutely.” Sidney leaned in to kiss you again.
“I do want take out.” You decided noticing how hungry you were. Sidney laughed at the moment you managed to break without much notice.
“You sure you don’t want want me to cook?” He took off his shirt and tossed it at your face.
“No I want you to take a shower.” You hopped off the counter and went to the drawer that had all of your take out menus.
“Join me?” The question had come from him after you placed the order for your favorite Thai place.
“The food will be here in 20 minutes.”
Sidney rolled his eyes “I can be done in 10.” He would never let a challenge pass.
“If we’re still in the shower when the delivery guy gets here, you’re answering the door.” You warned.
“Deal!” Sidney picked you up as you laughed and bounded up the stairs towards your bathroom.
The chorus of Castle On The Hill played throughout your car as you drove home from another long day of work. You had marker srains on your hands and aching feet.
“Hello.” You let your phone remain connected to the aux cord.
“Hi mrs. Crosby, this is Tessa Cooper.”
“Oh, hi Tessa.” You greeted your adoption worker. “How are you?”
“I’m good how about you?” Her voice carried throughout your car as you came to a stop at a red light.
“I’m good, long day.”
“Well its about to get a lot better.” You could hear the change in her voice. “All of the paperwork’s finished.” All of the air had left your body and your hands tightened around the steering wheel. You didn’t want to get your hopes up, but that could only mean one thing.
“You mean-”
“Yes, you can bring the baby home when you’re ready.”
“She’s sleeping.” You whispered softly to Sidney from the backseat where you remained beside your little girl in her car seat.
“I’ll carry her in.” Sidney pulled in to your already crowded drive way.
Both of your families were in Pittsburgh for the Stanley Cup finals. You were all leaving the next day for Nashville for game 6. Sidney gently undid the clips and pulled the baby from her seat. You followed behind with all the bags. Sidney led the way to your front door and opened it allowing you to go first.
“Where is she?” Your mom jumped up from the stairs where she must’ve been waiting for you.
“Right here.” Sid moved so all of your family members that joined in the foyer could see your baby girl. “Everyone meet Emaline, Emmy for short.”
“Emmy.” Trina cooed. “She’s beautiful.”
Your mother stared. “You can hold her.” Sidney first handed Emmy off to your mom who then passed her to Trina. From there your little girl was passed from person to person each admiring her.
“You did good kiddo.” Your dad bumped your shoulder with his own after his turn holding Emmy.
“With the baby or with Sid?” You questioned your eyes trained on your husband who was now holding your daughter.
“Both.”
“Can you say let’s go daddy?” Taylor held on to Emmy bouncing her up and down.
“The best she can do is spit up.” You joked watching from your seat.
“She’s into it, her eyes haven’t left the ice.” Troy commented.
“She’s already a daddy’s girl.” Your mom laughed.
“Definitely.” You smiled despite the anxiety you had been feeling the whole game.
They needed to win this. You knew nothing would make Sidney happier then getting a baby and the cup in the same year. He had told you the night before that he wanted to win the cup for Emmy and as the game came to an end you knew that want would be fufilled. The cup was coming home to Pittsburgh and you didn’t hesitate to get on the ice to congratulate Sidney.
“You forgot Emmy.” He said after setting you down from the tight hug he had you in.
“Taylor has her, I was just so excited to see you!” You smiled up at him.
“Thank you.”
“for what? You’re the one who won the cup.”
“For being there, for every season, for helping and pushing me to do better and be better,” Sidney wrapped his arms around your waist. He made it easy to forget about everyone else around you. “For giving me the most beautiful daughter in the world.” Sidney dipped his head down so he could kiss you.
You gripped onto his jersey and savored the moment. His lips tasted like a mixture of sweat and Gatorade, but you didn’t care because you were proud of your husband. Your stanley cup winning husband.
“Can we get a picture of the family Sid?” A photography asked. Emmy was handed from Taylor to Sidney. You moved in close together and smiled for the camera before the entire family joined in for one big picture. “Perfect.” He smiled down at his camera thanking you guys.
“Emmy guess what your daddy is,“ you cooed to the 2 month year old. “A stanley cup champion.”
“Emmy guess what mommy’s daddy is,” Sidney repeated. “A stanley cup champion.”
“You’re so bad.” You laughed slapping his arm.
“You’re the one who can’t keep your hands off me.” You simply laughed again and continued to celebrate with the team.
Celebrating went on for many hours into the morning. Somewhere along the way your mom and dad took Emmy with them to bed. It was now 3 am as you and Sidney slowly walked down the hotel halls struggling to find your room. You had already searched two floors when you remembered yours was on the 10th floor.
You fell back onto the bed fully clothed. “I’m exhausted.”
“So am I.” Sidney confessed falling next to you. You reached down for your husband’s hand.
“you did it.”
“We did it.” He corrected.
You closed your eyes enjoying the silence. You weren’t certain you’d ever be able to have children, but if each time you adopted you’d get blessed with a child like Emmy it wouldn’t matter.
