Youre watching him haul heavy huge boxes up flights of stairs while Mark- a friend of yours from highschool who got you and Rex acquainted in the first place- flies furniture through the balcony window.

Rex, at first, is super pissed his attempts to impress you got undermined

But then Mark hits you in the back with a fucking couch and Rex gets to be the hero again

”Jesus- Mark! Be CAREFUL with that thing-“ he slyly pushes the couch away, poking a tongue out at Mark, who is unimpressed but smiles anyways

“you could’ve hit their beautiful face!” He cupped your face and squished it, moving your cheeks around in circular motions for emphasis

You swatted his hands away before laughing “Pfft- I’m fine, don’t listen to him Mark, I’m fine.”

Mark still apologizes profusely, taking this as if cue to leave.

This leaves you and Rex to unpack his belongings, which admittedly are few

Even fewer since you vetoed his pinup posters

he has a surprisingly sturdy postcard collection, and you learn he collects them from every place he and the team go

You end up filling an entire side of your fridge with the postcards

”Maybe we should hang them up? They could line the walls” you stand a few feet back from the fridge, folding your arms and admiring your work

”Yknow I think that’s a problem for later, actually.” Rex rested his folded hands over your shoulder, laying his head atop.

When it comes to decorating, he’s such a diva

hed put the couch in front of the closet if you’d let him.

surprisingly, the most intimate part is putting away his kitchen supplies.

bus utensils join yours in the drawer and his favorite mug goes right next to yours in the shelf

He wears elbow length plastic gloves to do the dishes, apparently

Your toothbrushes go into a cup together in the bathroom

He threw away all his towels because “Yours are softer” and you have to go buy more towels

After unpacking and arranging and fighting over closet space, it’s finally done

Your space becomes his space becomes your space

His NASCAR poster right next to the framed autographs of your favorite voice actor

He’s slowly learning how to use your kitchen, and the quirks therein

for example, your stove and oven run hot, meaning the first time he tries to make you breakfast, he burns the shit out of everything

and the whole apartment smells like burnt egg

its okay bc he takes you to breakfast at a diner so who cares

He’s shockingly clean, like, does dishes daily and vacuums and Dusts

when you ask him about it- mid putting away dishes together- he gets really quiet

This is scary , Rex is never quiet

After a minute of thinking, he shrugs and puts a cup away from behind you, reaching past your head to get to the top shelf

“This is the first real home I’ve ever had, I want to take care of it I guess”

excuse you while you sob hysterically and hold him to your chest

Rex: ???????

He doesn’t understand just how sad what he just said is, and you smile fondly down at him

You Sigh dreamily, combing a hand through his hair

“I love you, Rex. I’m glad you moved in”

he wraps his arms around your waist, looking up at you from your stomach with a devilish, almost shit-eating grin

Hi hi Mousy! Oooh role reversal, okay! I'll do them in HC format too :) Because I'm not yet familiar with the comics, I'll be writing with Atom Eve since I'm not sure what Amber's role is in current volumes.

Your boyfriend is Mark Grayson, the man you have grown to love over the years, goofy antics, silly jokes and weird knick-knacks—memorabilia—from different missions.

Your boyfriend is Invincible, the man who dons a black spandex suit with blue and yellow accents, fighting bad guys, aliens and other dangerous things the universe had to offer. You had to learn to love this side of Mark because this was his job, something he at times didn't want to do but did because he understood the importance of it all.

With his came his teammates too. Teammates, partners, they were all kind of the same to you, though it didn't make them any less unique and fun to chat with from time to time.

Times being when they would come over for game nights or people you would bump into while they were in their civilian clothes.

Atom Eve was one of your favourite members of the Teen Team back then, being super badass in her pink gear and doing the damn most where she could. Even when she went off on her, she was still achieving so much, and for the longest time, you kind of wished you could be her.

When you finally got to meet her out of costume, she introduced herself as Samantha Wilkins and you almost lost your cool, because it the Atom Eve, however, she glossed over that name and made sure you knew her for who she was. A close friend of Mark's, someone he had gone to high school with.

It was great to have someone like Eve around because you finally got to hear about some of your boyfriend's greatest and silliest moments during missions and even from his teenage days.

Will apparently swore some secrecy to Mark as his best friend so there were things that he remained tight-lipped about.

However, as time went on, Mark grew comfortable in spending more time with Samantha out of the suit because the two of you now knew each other.

Unfortunately, that didn't really soothe your inherent worries about the two of them.

You trusted Mark, you knew he wasn't some reckless teenager, at least not anymore. He was an adult very capable of making his own decisions, setting his own boundaries and being respectful of his relationships with people.

But there was just a tiny part of you that worried.

Perhaps it was out of a lingering sense of insecurity, the innate comparisons you would make between yourself and Samantha. She was Atom Eve, she was out there saving the world, helping the planet, making a difference and she was gorgeous and kind.

As you stared at yourself in the mirror, sometimes you couldn't help but wonder why Mark chose you instead, when he spent so many years fighting alongside Samantha.

The feeling made you a little more bitter over time and Mark didn't notice until one day, he had asked you if it would be okay if he went out to Cuba with Samantha for the weekend to check on a lead for the Guardians.

The implication of it being for work made it harder for you to say no, but your response and agreement for him to go came off kind of blunt and a little too passive-aggressive.

"I don't know why you're asking if it's for work, just go."

Mark couldn't help but furrow his brows at your tone, "I thought you were the one who said we should run our schedules by each other so we don't get confused."

You sighed at the reminder, "You're right, sorry."

When you closed the mirrored cabinet, Mark was watching you with a grim look upon his face, "Is everything okay? You've been kind of distant recently."

"It's fine," you brushed him off, sliding past him in the bathroom doorway to make your way over to the bed. You crawled under the covers and instantly closed your eyes.

If I don't look at Mark, he'll drop the subject.

Except he didn't. Instead, your boyfriend followed you under the cover, coming face to face with you with a soft smile, "I don't think it's nothing. Talk to me, [Y/N]."

You took a deep breath, doing your best to keep your composure, but the moment you opened your eyes, searching for Mark in the midst of the darkness from under the comforter, tears started to well up.

"Why don't you date Samantha or someone like Samantha? Why are you dating a normal law-abiding citizen like myself when you could be with someone who has super cool powers, is super caring and kind to everyone and literally helping the planet?"

Frazzled by your outburst and the cracks in your voice, Mark was quick to scoot in closer to you, pulling you as close as he humanly could without crushing you to offer you some physical comfort.

"What are you talking about? Why would I? I love you for you, even if you're just a normie citizen like my mum or Will."

You sniffled, burying your face into the soft fabric of his shirt, "Because you're part Viltrumite. You have super strength, you can float and fly, you have saved the Earth countless times at the side of those who are just like you, like Atom Eve. She understands your lifestyle, you wouldn't have to worry about her and you wouldn't have to ask her if you could go to Cuba for recon."

Mark stopped responding, if anything he kind of stopped working; Mark.exe error noises.

He wasn't sure how to respond to that, what could he possibly do to make you worry less and to soothe your thoughts without saying the wrong thing.

You finished crying, unapologetically wiping your tear-stained face on Mark's cotton sleep shirt, and giving the snottiest sniffle man-kind has ever heard.

"Babe, you know... Even though I am part Viltrumite, and I have all these inherited abilities from my dad, I don't always feel that way. I know to most, I'm this hybrid sitting in a grey area because most people wouldn't accept me for being human while aliens probably wouldn't accept me as one of them because most beings out there don't even have a good relationship with the Viltrumite side of my bloodline. Samantha, Rex, everyone out there with powers allows me the opportunity to be a hero, someone with superpowers without judging me."

He paused, and for a moment you tensed up. Was this it? Did Mark just realize your question held a real thought-provoking possibility that perhaps he did choose the wrong person?

He looked down at you with a soft smile, "But when I'm with Will, my mum and you of all people, I can be the human side of me I have always been. I was raised human, hell I even had a very generic human childhood, for seventeen years and then suddenly I'm not human anymore and that was a really shitty time for me. I also got my ass kicked in a lot but when I'm with you, that normalcy I was raised with, I can have that. I wouldn't choose you over anyone else, because at the end of the day, you still understand the other part of me."

"But you can have that with Samantha too, she's also very human."

"But she is also not you, and I have made my decisions. I made it a long time ago and I don't ever plan to change that. I love you, [Y/N]."

With another round of tearful apologies, you muttered your I love you, too

Once you had calmed down and Mark had finished cheering you up, the two of you took a moment to talk out the feelings some more. Mark promised to spend a bit more time with you and that he would bring you along to more hangouts with Sam and the team.

When that happened, Mark 100% expected you to be more clingy and he was a-okay with that. He would hold your hand whenever he could, and would always save you a seat next to him at the table or on the couch.

Mark gave his physical affirmations with you when people weren't looking, with a peck to the temple, a small poke or a quick hug.

In return, you did your best to spend more time with Samantha, which helped you build more trust and confidence with both yourself and her as a friend.

Sorry if this wasn't to your expectation or it seemed short. There was some fat dialogue from Mark but it felt necessary.

9 Years Earlier

"That's it? You can't save me? I've just got to wait to die?" Tears start to roll down his face, Laila grasps his hand. He looks up at her, she was his life, they were supposed to grow old together, even get married, he fazed out and doesn't hear what else the doctor has to say. "How long?" his words come out almost as a whisper.

He can tell by the expression on his face that he has months rather than years "It's hard to say Mr. Wilkins...." Josh lets out a little laugh, "Because you know its weeks maybe months at a push?" Josh's tone is bitter "Mr. Wilkins...." Josh gets up from his seat and storms out of the doctors office and rushes through the hospital corridors until he's outside where he can breath again.

He looks around at people walking past him. If they only knew! Why me? What have I done? He thought as he watched them all just getting on with their lives while he was on borrowed time. "Josh?" she grabs his arm breaking him from his thoughts. He turns her eyes are puffy and swollen he was going to leave her, he'd be dead in the ground soon and she would be living her life possibly with someone else.

It broke his heart he wouldn't be the man she got to have kids with even grow old with "Josh, I'm..." she doesn't know what to say. He cups her face "Hey, it's OK," he kisses her lips "How can you say it's OK? It's anything but!" He wraps his arms around his fiancée "Because now I have to live my life to the fullest. Do all the things I keep saying I'm going to do!" he smiles softly at her. She was going to lose him, but she wanted him to do everything he was planning to do with his life.

A few days later, her heart is racing she can't believe he convinced her to do this, well it was more like he guilt tripped her into it "Laila! It's going to be fine! I wouldn't make you do anything that wasn't safe!" he tries to reassure her, but the higher the plane got the less she was convinced "Do you want to go first?" Josh calls over, she didn't, but then she couldn't watch him do it either.

She nods. The quicker I jump the quicker I get my feet on the ground right? She thought. Now she is outside the plane, feet dangling, she's strapped to some stranger's chest "We'll jump after 3! Are you ready?" She nods even though she wasn't ready "1.....2..." they jump at first Laila screams, but then she looks round it's beautiful and amazing.

Her screams fade "Whooooooooo! YES!! THIS IS AWESOME!!!!" She was so glad he had pushed her to do this with him.

A few minutes later she lands firmly on the ground. She is buzzing as she gets unclipped she looks up, watching Josh, who isn't far behind her. As he lands he's beaming "I told you that you would love it, didn't I?" She runs over to him colliding with him "It was amazing!! Thank you," he wraps her tightly in his arms "Thank you for doing it with me!"

They change out of their jumping gear, she's not sure if it's from the jump or the adrenaline, but she is turned on. They sign out and head back to the car "Can I add something to this buckle list?" She smiles at him as they get into the car, "Of course! What do you want to add?" She bites her lip "We need to find a country road" he looks at her puzzled.

She turns on the engine and drives.

She had been driving for half an hour when she found a deserted and secluded layby. She brings the car to a halt, turns off the engine. She looks around you can't see the main road "Laila? Why have we stopped here?" She leans over pulls up the lever from under his seat which slides the seat further back.

She jumps onto his lap, straddling him, she claims his lips with hers as she unclips his seat beat. He gets the hint as she begins to grind her hips with his "Laila, you want to..here?" She takes his hand in hers and guides it into her underwear where he finds she's soaked "Shit baby!" His kiss becomes more fierce, he works against her clit and she starts to unbutton his jeans.

She doesn't want to make love she wants rough, spontaneous sex.

Pulling him free, he pulls her underwear to the side, she guides him to where she needs him most. Thrusting up, he's entered her and she starts to ride him, he grasps a fist full of her hair pulling her head back. His nips her neck "Mark me!" She demands, he doesn't argue he bites and sucks against her neck as she digs her nails into his shoulders through his t-shirt. She starts to ride him harder, he thrusts up pushing deeper into her.

He pulls down the top part of her dress exposing her breast "Make them yours" she moans. He nips and sucks down to her nipple, she pulls his lips back to hers and grasps his lip between her teeth, making him hiss "Damn baby! If I known jumping from a plane got you this hot I would have had us doing it eve...." she rotates her hips shutting him up "Fuck me!" She smirks "I am!!"

"I'm not sure how......oh fuck yes.....longer....oh god baby just like that....I'm going to.....Laila your going to make me come......doing that" her efforts double she grips his shoulders tighter as she draws closer to her own high. "Ohhh....shit baby...fuck yess!" His body jerks and tightens as he hit his climax. She doesn't let up her pace she rides him harder feeling her own high build "Come on baby! Come for me! Let me feel you!" she falls over the edge "Josh!!!"

They both try to catch their breath, Josh smiles "That was something new!" he brushes her hair out of her face. She smirks at him "I love you" he smiles "I love you too, Laila!"

6 Months Later

Josh had gone down hill fast, he managed to get 97% of his bucket list done 3 months after he was told they couldn't do anything. He hadn't left the house for 3 weeks, he was barely able to get out of bed the past week. He hated being like this, Laila was slowly turning into his carer he didn't want that for her or that to be her lasting memory of him.

"You should go!" She shook her head "Josh, you need me here," he sighs, "Laila, my mum will be over soon...go! You need a break and I'm not going anywhere fast! Go and have a few drinks with Nikki let your hair down" He laughs making her smile.

She huffs "Fine..I'll go! But only for as long as your mum can stay for!"

Half an hour later Louise arrives and takes over, he entwines his fingers through hers. He's reluctant to let her go "I can give it a miss if you want?" He puts on a fake smile "No, you go!" He kiss her knuckles before cupping her face, running his thumb over her cheek.

"Are you sure?" She kinda hope he changes his mind, she doesn't feel right having a good time while he's laid up in bed "Yes...now go!" She laughs, "OK!" She turns and he grasps her arm, she turns back to him "Laila....I...I love you! Have fun!" He weakly pulls her towards him, he captures her lips.

His hand is on the nape of her neck, he deepens the kiss. She smirks against his lip "Josh! Your mum is just next door!" He chuckles "I don't care!" the kiss turns more passionate and Laila pulls away.

Josh hasn't been well enough to be with her in that way for the past 6 weeks not that she minded she was just grateful he was here to cuddle her to sleep.

"I love you too! I will see you later," she smiles at him, he nods. She grabs her coat and says goodbye to Louise on her way out.

Nikki has never seen Laila like this before, she's seen her tired, but today she looked exhausted. Being the friend she is, she told her she looked beautiful and held her tight. She could see the pain in her eyes, she needed to make sure, if only for a few hours she forget what was happening at home and just have some fun.

Nikki tried to persuade her to have one more drink, but she wasn't having any of it. She headed home as she rounds the corner, she spots the black private ambulance outside their building. Her heart drops before she realises, she runs, but her feet are barely carrying her.

She spots an upset Louise in front of the building's main door "Lou!" She calls out "Lou! What happened?!" She asks her hoping she had got it all wrong. She turns towards Laila as soon as turns in her direction she knows "Laila...he's.....he's gone!"

She collapses to the ground shrieking, "NO! Josh!!" she hysterical.

Louise tries to help her up, but she dead weights "Laila, come on. Let's get you inside darling!" She slowly gets off the ground as Louise helps her up and into the flat.

"What.....happened? He...was...OK when I left!" She asks through the tears, "I was cleaning the flat. I left him by himself for like 30 minutes and when I came back I found the pills and him...." she cuts off.

Laila can't believe it "But he wouldn't do that! Not Josh!" She can't compute he would take his own life. Why would he do that?

Laila gets up and heads toward the bedroom she notices the empty painkiller packets by the bed.

"Louise?" She hears her come up behind her, she turns "Where did those come from?" She points towards the packets.

Louise looks shocked "Erm....I...erm...I guess your medication cabinet?" She shrugs her shoulders "But we never had that many in there!" She's confused "Maybe he has been taking them out stocking them up each time you buy a new packet?" Louise suggested.

"No, I would have noticed! I haven't brought any in weeks!" She knows there is more to the story than she is letting on "Louise, did you bring them here?" She can't believe she's asking this but there isn't any other explanation. Louise looks shocked "What no!!!" But as soon as she says that she knows, her face gave her away!

"LIAR!!" Laila hisses at her, she breaks "OK! I did! Laila! You have to believe me! I didn't want this, but he begged me to help him!" Laila runs to the toilet and Louise chases after her "Laila, I'm sorry! But he couldn't face you turning into his carer. He didn't want you to remember him like that!"

She's hunched over the toilet, wiping her chin. She turns to Louise "GET OUT!" She ordered her "Laila...please!" Her blood boils "I SAID GET OUT!!! GET.......THE.....FUCK....OUT!!!" Laila screams at her.

Not wanting to upset her further Louise gathers her things and leaves, telling her she's sorry as she closes the door.

She collapses on the bathroom floor. He could've had months left! Why would he take his own life knowing it was cut short as it were? These thoughts haunted her for weeks, even months. The only answers she had were what Louise had told her.

Before the funeral, she tried to contact Laila numerous times but had no luck. At the wake she corners her "Laila, how are you?" She little out a laugh "How am I? After you helped my fiancé take his own life? How the fuck do you think I feel?" Louise is a little taken back she knew she was angry still, but she didn't expect this.

"Laila, please you have to believe me, I wouldn't have done it if he didn't beg me!" Laila is just full of hate towards her "Have you told anyone?" She knew there was a reason she wanted to speak to her so badly. But despite what she had done Louise and Steve had lost a son and Naomi a brother as she had lost her fiancé. She believed that the fact Louise would have to live with the fact she helped her son take his own life punishment enough.

"No and I'm not going to I couldn't do that to Steve and Naomi...I take it he doesn't know?" She shook her head "He doesn't know" this somewhat was a relief to Laila knowing she wasn't the only one out of the loop.

"Well, I'm not going to tell anyone but after today I never want to see your face again" Louise is stunned "Laila, we need each other to get through this!' She rolls her eyes at Louise "I don't need you! Your husband and daughter does!" She walks off leaving her stunned.

After that day Laila hadn't seen or heard from her, Steve did reach out a couple of times but after a while they lost contact.

Present Day

"Louise?" She was face to face with this woman she never wanted to see again. "Laila? Who's this?" Harry asks, "Louise" she doesn't elaborate Harry holds out his hand "Sorry Laila must've forgotten her manners, I'm Harry her friend" Louise smiles at him and takes his hand "Hi Harry, I'm Louise....Laila ex fiancé mum"

It clicks!

She had told him a little about Josh not the part Louise played, but he knew as soon as she said ex fiancé she was talking about Josh "Oh! I'm so sorry to hear what happened to your son!" She smiles softly at him "Thank you! How are you Laila?"

She couldn't do this she could stand there and pretend it was all OK even 8 years later. She turns on her heels and storms off in the other direction "Laila! Wait!" She hears Harry call out after her, she gets 3 aisles away before he caught up with her bring her to a stop "Hey! I know it must be hard to see his family but there was no need to be rude"

"Rude??? What like her not telling her son's fiancée he was planning on ending it all earlier than expect with her help!" She didn't mean to blurt it out it but just came out before she could stop it. She hadn't told anyone not her family or friends no one knew until now.

Harry knew now but why did she tell him? He looks at her in shock "What?"

First things first, tell us a little about yourself.

Hi I'm Minister-for-Femslash, also known as Mini. I grew up on a tiny island that nobody's ever heard of and I now live in a tiny village that nobody's ever heard of. I'm an aspiring writer who probably watches too much television.

How long have you been writing for?

I've been writing since I was about fourteen.

What inspired you to start writing for The Magicians?

For me, it was the small, subtle moments. Those moments that don't command the viewers attention but just exist. Those pieces of dialogue that reveal so much about the characters, who they are and how they feel in a way that just makes me want to pick that moment apart, analyse it to death and then build an idea around it.

Who is/are your favourite character(s) to write? What it is about them that makes them your favourite?

Right now, I love writing for Penny-23. His use of the term “soulmates” to refer to Julia is so fascinating that it just makes me want to explore everything about him and what happened in his timeline, what made him use that term and what he feels when he looks at Julia-40, because it must be so hard to look at the face of the woman he loves and know that it's not her.

Do you have a preference for a particular season/point in time to write about?

I just tend to keep up with the show, to be honest. Wherever the show is, is usually the time period I'm writing for.

Are you working on anything right now? Care to give us an idea about it?

I always have something brewing, but right now, I have some personal deadlines I've been neglecting that I need to get finished, so fics are on the back burner. There is a Kady/Penny/Julia piece I've been wanting to write for a while, so hopefully I'll be able to get to that soon. I also have an Alice/Julia piece that's half finished but I'm really not happy with how it's working right now. Maybe in a few weeks I'll go back to it and try again.

How long is your “to do list”?

Too long.

What is your favourite fic that you’ve written for The Magicians? Why?

So It Turns Out You're Not My Soulmate is probably my best fic, but my personal favourite is the sequel You Love Me So Much You Did It Twice. I just had so much fun coming up with the little plot twists, finding ways to include characters like Humbledrum, Rafe and Abigail, and Bayler, as well as exploring different dynamics and relationships that we don't see much of on the show like Alice/Fen, or Julia/Margo. Plus, multiple Julias, that's always a good time.

Many writers have a fic that they are passionate about that doesn’t get the reception from the fandom that they hoped for. Do you have a fic you would like more people to read and appreciate?

I mostly write for myself, my fics are usually the stuff that I want to read. So as long as I'm happy with a piece I tend to treat other people liking it as a bonus. But if I had to give an answer it would be You Love Me So Much You Did It Twice simply because, even though I loved every minute of writing it, it was just so time consuming and it did kind of take over my life, for a little bit at least.

What is your writing process like? Do you have any traditions or superstitions that you like to stick to when you’re writing?

It's a little slap dash. If a thought or an idea strikes me, I'll just go ahead and write it, which means a lot of the time I have lots of small scenes or moments that I then have to find a way to slot together into something cohesive. But I do write everyday, which is something.

Do you write while the seasons are airing or do you prefer to wait for hiatus? How does the ongoing development of the canon influence and inspire your writing process?

I do write while the seasons are airing, and because my fics tend to follow the plot of the show, canon has a huge influence on then. Each new episode brings a flood of new ideas.

What has been the most challenging fic for you to write?

I Just Want To Feel Warm Again. There was just one particular moment that I could not figure out how to make work, no matter how many times I tried.

Are there any themes or tropes that you like particularly like to explore in your writing?

Every since the show brought them up, I've been really fascinated by the other timelines and the consequences of Jane's interference on the group's dynamics/relationships.

Are there any writers that inspire your work? Fanfiction or otherwise?

Joss Whedon was a big influence on me as a teenager, but now there are too many brilliant authors/writers to list them all.

What are you currently reading? Fanfiction or otherwise?

It Should Have Been Me by Susan Wilkins, but I've almost finished so I'll probably be starting No Tomorrow, the second in the Killing Eve series soon.

What is the most valuable piece of writing advice you’ve ever been given?

It can be fixed in editing, so get your first draft finished then work it out.

Are there any words or phrases you worry about over using in your work?

I definitely overuse the phrase, “and again, and again.” Also “after a moment”/”a moment later.” You'll find those phrases littered through my fics.

What was the first fanfic that you wrote? Do you still have access to it?

It was a Naomi/Emily from Skins fic, and no I don't have access to it, which is probably a good thing. It really wasn't very good. I can however still remember a lot of it and I cringe.

Self-edit or Beta?

I self-edit, although I should probably get myself a beta.

Comments or Kudos/Reblogs or Likes?

Comments. Nothing makes me happier than reading why people like a particular fic. They also make me want to write more.

Angst. Definitely angst.
