If you haven't heard, pre-orders for the October 17th physical release of Evangelion:3.0+1.11 have gone live in various places, including Amazon, direct from @gkidsfilms, direct from @alltheanimeuk, and more. There are various collector's and standard editions available.

Among the extras worth highlighting, it would seem like all releases will be receiving the 17 page EVANGELION:3.0(-120min.) oneshot manga and the 11 minute EVANGELION:3.0(-46h) short, both of which serve as pre/interquels to the events of Evangelion 3.0.

Directed by: Hideaki Anno, Kazuya Tsurumaki, Katsuichi Nakayama, Mahiro Maeda.

Music by: Shiro Sagisu.

Run time 262 min. Aspect Ratio 2.39:1. Audio English and Japanese (DTS-HD MA 5.1). Subtitles English, French and Spanish. Region A.

1 UHD Blu Ray (black) and 2 Blu Rays (white), one of which includes bonus content: Evangelion 3.0 (-46h), and Evangelion 3.0 (-120min.)

Transparent disc trays on a gatefold and a slipcase, both white with the iridescent lettering. A booklet, 5 cards and a folded poster are inside. Paper quality and printing are very good. I'd like the slipcase to be sturdier, but it's not bad as it is. The gatefold has a white matte finish that would have been a better choice for the slipcase. The poster is a letdown, not because of the image itself, or the quality of the printing (which is very good), but because it comes folded. But what could you do, really? There's no other way to pack it inside a Blu Ray size packaging. So, it is what it is.

It retails for $80 U.S.D., but I'm sure it can be found cheaper. There's a Standard Edition for $30 U.S.D.: without the 4K Blu Ray, cards and poster, that could be a good option too.

Tsurumaki Kazuya

name: 鶴巻和哉 (Tsurumaki Kazuya)

born: February 2, 1966 (59 years old)

Tsurumaki is most well-known for being the creator and director of FLCL, but he started at Gainax as an animator, doing key animation on Nadia and Otaku no Video, as well as serving as animation director on episode 31 and 39 of Nadia, respectively the climax of the third arc and the finale of the show. He also directed the Nadia Omake Gekijō (ナディアおまけ劇場 / Nadia Bonus Theater) shorts included on the show's physical release.

On Neon Genesis Evangelion, along with continuing to do animation work, Tsurumaki was promoted to storyboard artist and episode director, directing six episodes:

Ep. 1: 使徒、襲来 / ANGEL ATTACK

Ep. 2: 見知らぬ、天井 / THE BEAST

Ep. 8: アスカ、来日 / ASUKA STRIKES!

Ep. 16: 死に至る病、そして / Splitting of the Breast

Ep. 25: 終わる世界 / Do you love me?

Ep. 26: 世界の中心でアイを叫んだけもの / Take care of yourself. (co-directed with Masayuki)

He then directed Evangelion:Rebirth / Episode:25' as part of the films Death and Rebirth and The End of Evangelion, he co-directed all four Studio khara Evangelion films, and directed the short film Evangelion:3.0(-46h) and the motion comic version of Evangelion:3.0(-120min.) included in the 3.0+1.11 release of Shin Eva.

Outside of the Evangelion series, he directed the aforementioned Nadia shorts and FLCL, as well as the Gunbuster sequel Top wo Nerae 2! DIE BUSTER at Studio Gainax, the short film I Can Friday by Day! and the 2017 The Dragon Dentist two-parter at Studio khara, and he is the director of the new series Gundam: GQuuuuuuX, a collaboration between khara and Studio Sunrise, which had its theatrical première in Japan on January 17, 2025 and is set to air on TV at some point this year.
