the brunette had just pulled on a fresh set of clothing after her shower when she heard the sound of her phone going off from across the room. padding over to it, she took the device in her hands to see that there were two missed calls and a text message, all from grayson. brow furrowed, she dialed back the number and waited until he answered. "hey pretty lady." "hi babe. sorry, i was in the shower. wassup?" "you up for sneaking out tonight?" though she'd just thrown on a fresh pair of shorts and a t-shirt, she figured that she could be bothered to throw a pair of jeans on instead and nodded as if he could possibly see her. "i think i can manage that," she replied, glancing out of the window in an attempt to see whether or not he was already outside her house. he was, and the blonde waved up at her from his pickup truck. "gimme two minutes to change." she didn't bother hanging up the phone, instead pulled the curtain shut and shimmied out of the pair of shorts only to throw on a pair of skinny jeans, running her fingers through her slightly wet locks after doing so. she'd let them air dry for the sake of time, she figured. reaching over onto the bed to find the call still active, she spoke into the device once more. "i'm coming." and this time she hung up, slipping her phone into the back pocket of her jeans before finding a pair of shoes to slip on. grabbing her keys, she chose to put those in her back pocket as well before making her way slowly down the hall, preparing to be extra cautious when passing her mother's bedroom. it was half past midnight and she knew the older woman would likely be asleep, but didn't want to take any chances. it was two weeks before evangeline would be heading off to college in california and she wasn't exactly thrilled about having to leave grayson behind. she was going to miss him and though they promised to try and make things work despite the distance, she still did not like the idea of being without him. once she was past the threshold she shut the door as quietly as possible before all but rushing over to the passenger side of the vehicle as she climbed in. "hi baby," she said softly, leaning over to plant a kiss on his lips, lingering for a short moment before pulling back and buckling up her seat belt. "where we headed?" "figured we'd make our way towards the desert, if that's cool with you?" "let's hit it." putting her feet up on the dash, she settled back into her seat for the ride, reaching out and giving his thigh a gentle squeeze before turning on the radio, choosing to break the silence. once she found a station she liked, the brunette couldn't help herself from singing along with the radio, catching her a glance from grayson who only shook his head and laughed when she got a little too much into the song. with the windows down, her hair blew in the gentle breeze as they drove. reaching out to caress grayon's cheek during one part of her solo performance as they pulled up to their usual spot, about a half an hour's drive into the desert. he already had the air mattress set up in the back bed of the truck and she clambered out of the vehicle and into the back without much grace but still managed to do so with a sense of ease as she settled down. grayson followed suit, and she snuggled herself up into his side once he had gotten comfortable, resting her head on his chest. she cherished the moments she still had with him like this, not worrying so much about her leaving, but instead just enjoying the time she could spend with him. a small sigh came from her lips as she glanced up at the stars, able to see them so much better with the lack of light. the air was warm and comfortable and she could have stayed there forever, if given the chance. "babe?" "yeah," she said, shifting slightly so that she could capture his gaze. "i'm gonna miss this." reaching up and running a finger over his jawline, she responded. "me too." pressing a kiss against his cheek, the brunette snuggled back up into his side. they'd remain there long enough to see the sunrise, gazing upon it's beauty before heading home. fancy would likely notice her missing and would say something, but it was entirely worth it.

scrunching her face in the mirror, she shifted in her princess dress, trying on different facial expressions to see which matched her outfit the best, before a slight pout settled across her features. jumping down and away from the mirror, she ran into the kitchen to pull at her mother's blouse. "mommy, will you do my hair?" "later, baby, i'm busy." mom was taking her time in preparing dinner so she went to the next best person, killian. he was in his room playing with some of his own toys by the time she burst through the door, hands on her hips before glancing down at him. "kiiiiiiiilly," she sang, voice holding a melodic tone before plopping down right beside her older brother. "will youse do my hair?" a look of annoyance passed across her brother's features, knowing she wouldn't likely let up until he did as she asked, even if it was not the intended result. "uh. sure?" it came out as more of a question but she squealed happily nonetheless, shifting in front of him until she was comfortable. pulling the piece of gum from inside his mouth, he stuck it in his little sister's hair, making sure to spread it around before claiming he was finished. she ran to look in the mirror, a look of horror settling across her features before glancing back at her brother's wicked grin. "you're mean!" she shouted, tears springing to her eyes before she ran out of the room and back downstairs in search of her mother. fancy was still working on dinner but this time, hearing her youngest daughter's cries, she pulled her attention away. "mommy!" she was sobbing now, tears readily staining the skin of her cheeks in their wake before she wrapped her arms around her mother, crying into the apron fancy wore. "who did this?" fancy asked and she muffled out a soft 'killian.' unbelieving of her youngest child, she yelled out her sister's name. "bidelia!" upstairs in her room none the wiser, the older woman stormed up the stairs and proceeded to yell in her elder sister's direction. delia didn't even have a chance to argue before her mother slammed the door, but not before shooting a death glare in evangeline's direction. if looks could kill, she'd be reduced to mere ashes at this point in time. as if things couldn't get worse, that night when she slept, bidelia slipped herself into evangeline's room. she was cuddling her stuffed bunny and none the wiser as her elder sister proceeded to bring a pair of scissors up to her younger sister's hair, carving chunks away in her wake. when she awoke that morning, the scream brought fancy running up the stairs. sobs wracked through her tiny chest as she stared at herself in the mirror. she was ugly. fancy then tried to even it out the best she could, brushing and adding a hint of barrettes to try and spruce up her daughter's appearance the best she could. it would grow back, but for a little while she was going to have to deal with things. that morning she wore a hat to school, one of her older brother's beanies in an attempt to hide the destruction that came in her siblings wake

she hadn't been back to limbo in almost six years, her latest visit being to introduce her son to his grandmother and the rest of the family. they'd spent two weeks in the small town that summer, and this was the end of the trip. standing in the yard attempting to buckle in her little boy, her daughter started doing cartwheels across the grass, running and playing like she didn't have a care in the entire world. "emilie, baby, get in the car please." the eight year old continued to run around, hopped up on all the sugar her father had just so happened to give her, an attempt to bribe the child to behave on their long journey. shaking her head, she buckled in her son, pressing a kiss to the head of a baby that was slowly nodding off after his last feed. closing the car door, she glanced over to her husband who was doing nothing about trying to contain the hyper little girl, and simply huffed a breath from between parted lips before trying to wrangle the child. "if you get in the car we can have ice cream after dinner." while she was usually against trying to bribe her child, unlike her husband, she figured that it would be best. they were getting behind on schedule and had a long drive ahead of them. hopefully the sugar would work out of her system and she would crash before they got too far into their road trip, god willing. bending down, the brunette tucked a strand of hair behind her daughter's ear, standing at her level as she spoke. "you can even get rainbow sprinkles." that sealed the deal, and even though emilie attempted to pretend as if she was considering the idea, the look in her eyes - wild on sugar, widened significantly at the thought of more tasty treats later on in the evening. taking her daughter's hand, evangeline walked her over to her car and buckled her up in her seat, making sure that her bag was right next to her. containing all of her toys, coloring books, and just about anything that could hold a small child's attention for more than the hopeful five minutes, she set the door to close and climbed into the passenger side. "thanks for the help," she grumbled, under her breath, before buckling herself in. they were about twenty minutes into their ride before she felt a kick at the back of her seat. glancing in the direction of her daughter, she could already see three toys and a box of crayons strewn out over the rest of the seat and in her lap. thank goodness the baby was asleep or there would definitely be fighting about the stealing of toys, that much she knew well. "please don't kick the seat, em." "are we there yet?" "not yet baby." a huff of breath similar to her mother's left through her lips and she folded her arms across her chest. she really was the spitting image of evangeline, and she noticed more and more everyday just how much the little one took ahold of her personality and ran with it. biting down on the inside of her cheek, the brunette shifted through her bag and came out with her ipad, sliding her finger across the device in search of a movie or game that would entertain her daughter for a little while. "movie or game?" "movie!" and with that, she settled on a children's movie before handing the device over to the little brunette, who happily kicked off her shoes and settled in for what evie could only hope be for a good hour and a half. glancing back at the baby, still sound asleep and clutching one of his toys, then over to her daughter who was now content with a distraction, she couldn't stop the small smile from tugging at the corner of her lips. in the rear view mirror was the town of limbo, and she couldn't help the twinge of sadness at leaving her hometown behind. but she was excited to get back to her actual home, in california, with her beloved babies and her husband. now entering limbo. traffic wasn't all that bad from the airport, but going on a plane with a teenager and a six year old wasn't exactly the easiest thing to do. in the back seat of the car sat noah, playing with a series of dinosaur toys he insisted on bringing on the plane with him, making up some kind of invasion or the like. beside her in the front seat was emilie, wrapped up in her phone and still giving her mother the silent treatment. she still wasn't happy about leaving new york and heading to a small town and informed her mother as much the entire plane ride over. since disembarking though, she'd retreated to a form of silence, completely disregarding her mother's attempts at conversation. pulling off the main road, the brunette took a look around as they drove through the town, noting changes and things that remained the same after all this time. limbo, for the most part, appeared to be just as she left it, though she didn't know if that was a good or a bad thing. she'd leave that question to be answered at a later date. huffing a breath, the brunette instead reached for the radio and dialed up the volume ever so slightly, singing along to the sound that was now blaring through the speakers. noah could be seen shimmying in his seat, and though her attempt to nudge her daughter out of her current state seemed fruitless, she saw the way the little girl glanced over in her direction, rolling her eyes before going back to her phone. progress was being made. "c'mon em, this isn't gonna be so bad. look, they got a skating rink, you love those." "i loved those when i was eleven, mom." emilie didn't want to admit that she still, in fact, loved them, but her mother knew better. shaking her head, the brunette pulled off the main road and onto one of the smaller ones in search of their newly bought house, really excited to show it to the kids. they had a whole lot of unpacking to do, but it was going to be nice to be out of the city and back home, she'd decided, at least for a little while. pulling up in front of the house, evangeline turned off the engine of the car after parking in the driveway, glancing over in her children's direction. "who's ready to see the place?" no response. well, she was excited. she'd fallen in love with the house when she first visited limbo in search of a residence, having left the kids in new york while she did, so this would be their first time seeing the house. "c'mon, let's get inside." a majority of their belongings had been delivered and there was at least the beds set up, so they'd be set for a couple of days. boxes could wait for at least another night. exiting the vehicle, she walked over and opened the door to reveal a tiny noah shooting his way past her to try and run into the house, now excited. emilie sat in the car until her mother motioned for her to hurry up, and the three walked in together. this was the start of a new chapter of their lives, and she was determined to make the best of it.
