Indian Oil is gearing up to provide EV charging facilities at 1,000 fuel stations
Diversified energy major IndianOil on Friday said it has installed more than 1,000 electric vehicle charging stations (EVCS) across the country.
"With the successful deployment of over 1,000 EV charging points, we have achieved the first of our many milestones towards enabling an EV revolution in the country," Director, Marketing V. Satish Kumar, said.
"IndianOil is gearing up to provide EV charging facilities at 10,000 fuel stations in the next three years. This will give confidence to customers for an uninterrupted drive as well as to automobile manufacturers to enhance production of electric vehicles."
IndianOil had installed its first EV charger for public use in 2017, at Nagpur. Now, the company's charging points are present in more than 500 towns and cities including multiple state and national highways. Besides, the corporation is planning to have a base of 3,000 plus charging stations to convert highways into e-highways across the country, over the next three years.
As per the 'National Mission for Transformative Mobility and Battery Storage', IndianOil is setting up EV charging infrastructure in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Surat, and Pune, followed by state capitals, smart cities, major highways, and expressways.

EV public charging point player CHARGE+ZONE eyes $100 million fund raise
On the back of a successful electrification of 1000 kms across multiple national highways with its unmanned electric vehicle (EV) charging points, Vadodara-based CHARGE+ZONE is now looking to raise $100 million for network expansion.
Having set up 10 such EV charging points, including four company-owned company-operated (COCO), across 1,000 km on national highways like Ahmedabad-Rajkot, Mumbai-Nashik, Mumbai-Pune and Delhi-Jaipur, CHARGE+ZONE is now looking to cover over 10,000 km in the country.
Deployed at convenient and strategic locations along the highway, CHARGE+ZONE's unmanned charging stations are rapid DC charging points with CCS2 as charging protocol, catering to electric four-wheelers. These stations can provide up to 80 per cent charge in 45-60 minutes and full charge in 90-120 minutes, depending on the EV’s battery size.
According to CHARGE+ZONE founder and CEO Kartikey Hariyani, apart from its larger goal of electrifying 10,000 km of national and state highways over the next 3-5 years, the company also plans to have a robust network of one million EV charging points by 2030.
"Through our national highway electrification program, we have successfully implemented full stack EV charging solutions across multiple cities and states that are accessible, affordable and easy to use. We have already spent a million USD dollars on fast chargers and are looking forward to engaging with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) even as we set up more charging stations and more points at each station. Now, as part of the expansion, we are looking for a 'Series A' round of $75-100 million," Hariyani told Business Standard.
With the charging points being Internet of Things (IoT) enabled, the same are unmanned and connected with the company's mainstay operating system (OS) Charge Cloud, thereby managing not just payments and charging but also data around usage and duration, among other things.

Magenta sets up country’s Largest Public EV Charging Station
Magenta has set up India’s largest public EV charging station in Navi Mumbai. The charging station was inaugurated by Subhash Desai, Minister of Industry and Mining.
The public charging station is functional 24*7 with 21 AC/ DC chargers for 2-wheelers, 3-wheelers and 4-wheelers. Depending on the chargers can charge a vehicle in 45 minutes. For vehicles that require AC slow charging, a parking bay has been developed which allows for overnight charging as well. These chargers can be operated through the ChargeGrid App with online remote monitoring which includes an automated payment gateway, thereby eliminating the need of having a station marshal to monitor, maintain & operate the chargers at the location. These chargers are also powered by a combined 40 KW rooftop solar power. The setting up of this public EV charging station in Mumbai is a revolutionary move to support the government initiative of setting up 400,000 charging stations to meet the requirement for two million Electric Vehicles that could potentially ply on its roads by 2026. According to the Society of Manufacturers of Electric Vehicles - there are 1,800 charging stations in India as of March 2021 for approximately 16,200 electric cars, including the fleet segment. Hence, this move by Magenta is seen as a stepping-stone to fulfill the vision of achieving the desired number of EV chargers by 2026. Magenta intends to pump in Rs. 30 Cr. to build its charger development and manufacturing unit for India and for exports. This integrated charging plus development plus manufacturing unit will cater to the development and production of the AC chargers along with the streetlamp chargers. With its second R&D center in the same location, the company intends to employ 170 people in the coming year. The integrated charging plus development plus manufacturing will provide Magenta with an opportunity to become an end-to-end ‘Socket to Software’ solution provider for EV charging.
