Squirrel Friends #31 The Elephant Queen is Here with Eureka O’Hara Alec is hosting solo again, but he’s joined by an extra special guest, Eureka O’Hara! They discuss Eureka’s fondest memories of Drag Race before diving deep into a conversation about the importance of forgiveness, sobriety, and growing up as a queer youth. Eureka serves some excellent advice! Also, there’s a little sneak peek of the new season of We’re Here. And of course, you know they had to talk about those infamous hair loaves!

ABC AUDIO LAUNCHES SEASON 3 OF ITS AWARD-WINNING PODCAST ‘LIFE OUT LOUD WITH LZ GRANDERSON’
New Six-Episode Season Focuses on Family and Parenting in the LGBTQ+ Community
First Episode, Out Now, Features a Candid Conversation With Host LZ Granderson and His Son
Tumblr media
ABC Audio launched today the third season of “Life Out Loud with LZ Granderson,” its award-winning podcast focused on LGBTQ+ issues. The new, six-episode season, hosted by ABC News contributor and Emmy® Award-winning journalist LZ Granderson, explores the concept of family as well as parenting through the lens of the LGBTQ+ community. By drawing on his own lived experiences as a gay, Black father, Granderson delivers inspiring conversations on the topics of adoption, surrogacy, biracial parenting and more.
“The first two seasons were about getting our stories out there and getting information out there,” said LZ Granderson. “Season three is about showing our hearts, and what better way to do that than to talk about our families? The conversations are still informative, but this season there’s more vulnerability because we’re trying to show more of the community’s heart.”
The premiere episode features a candid and personal discussion between Granderson and his son, LZ “LZed” Granderson. The pair discuss their family dynamic and LZed’s thoughts on growing up with a queer father. Granderson also reflects on his own life, sharing what it was like to come out and get divorced.
“This season of ‘Life Out Loud’ shows how family takes all forms,” says ABC Audio executive producer Laura Mayer. “Whether a member of the LGBTQ+ community, or an ally, listeners will feel seen by this heartfelt season’s focus on every type of family ― families of origin or of one’s own creation.”
Earlier this month, “Life Out Loud with LZ Granderson” received the Signal Award for best LGBTQ+ series. The show has been recognized with Special Honors by GLAAD and was called a Best New Podcast by Spotify following the success of its first season.
New episodes will post every Thursday and feature interviews with interior designer and TV personality Vern Yip (“Trading Spaces,” “Design Star”), drag queen and TV personality Eureka O’Hara (“We’re Here”), journalist and author Jemele Hill (“Uphill: A Memoir”) and BET executive Tiyale Hayes, among others.
“Life Out Loud with LZ Granderson” is available for free on major listening platforms, including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music, Google Podcasts, iHeartRadio, Pandora, Stitcher, TuneIn, Audacy and the ABC News app.
“Life Out Loud” is produced by ABC Audio. Laura Mayer is executive producer.
About LZ Granderson
LZ Granderson is an Emmy Award-winning journalist and op-ed columnist for the Los Angeles Times. In 2021 the Equality Forum listed Granderson among its “LGBTQ History Month Icons,” and the Los Angeles Press Club as well as California News and Publishing Association named him the year’s top columnist. In 2016 he was inducted into the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association Hall of Fame and his TED Talk, “Myth of the Gay Agenda,” has more than 1.7 million views. Granderson received recognition for his work from major LGBTQ+ organizations in the nation, including the Human Rights Campaign, GLSEN and GLAAD. The Advocate, the nation’s most prominent and oldest LGBTQ+ magazine, frequently includes him as one of the 50 most influential LGBTQ voices in media.

Drag Show
So this might be a longer story. I went into my bookstore the other day, and my owner was sprinting around looking for her phone. She found it and ran to the front. I followed her, and Shangela was standing in our store just talking with my coworker! My owner was completely losing it, about to like pass out! She’s like my owners absolute favorite queen. I was aware of who she was but I never really watched her on drag race, But I was still super excited because like !!!! And so After a bit of talking with her she told us that there was gonna be a free show with her, Bob the Drag Queen, and Eureka O’Hara at this old abandoned bus station for free. My owner right away went online and found how to reserve a spot and so I got tickets to this show. My first time meeting a drag queen, or even thinking of going to something like this! So yesterday was the show! I showed up to check in and I saw SO many people I knew. It was that thing I felt at pride again where I realized our town’s not all shit and that there’s this whole accepting world too. It just always feels so beautiful and uplifting to see that our town isn’t all trumpies and hee-haw’s. But so me and my friend hung out with my owner until it started. I found out it was being filmed for their HBO show, “We’re Here”. So I got to watch these three major queens do performances with their drag daughters and it was ABSOLUTELY amazing! It was so much fun and I screamed my little heart out and I’m so excited to see the full episode when it airs! And then, of course, a minor boy story! There was this guy who was standing next to me. He was dancing and accidentally like really bumped into me. He wrapped his arm around my shoulder and was like, “oh my god I’m sorry! I don’t want to touch ya unless you’re fine with that!” And then he kind of left himself wrapped around me for a second. And then like 10 seconds later he hits me again and like basically full on just kind of hugs me and was just like, “I’m sorry! I guess we’re just gonna keep bumping into each other” and then wrapped his arms around me again and I think I almost fainted. I wanted to talk to this bitch more but then he started distancing after that and I lost him in the crowd and now I’m PISSED!
