There was amusement in his tone and a playful smirk dancing on the edge of his lips, turning to the ninja beside him. It wasn't like danger was anything new to him after all — far from it. Young as he was, as they both were for that matter, they had been through plenty more than most could ever comprehend at times. Sure, he wished somethings that had come to pass had never happened and some of what they had gone through never came to be BUT that was in the past now. It was foolish to dwell on it more than one needed to at times after all. There was a time and place for those moment to be spoken about, to find understanding and heal from them.

Even as he teased the chameleon lightly in the moment, there were truth to the words being spoken. The guardian knew just how deadly Espio could be — one of the best fighters he knew and resourceful too at that. He knew how to handle a situation to the best of his abilities and come out victories. It was a talent and one he greatly admired in the other, that calculation and skill. If there was anyone he trusted most to have his back in a brawl, it was the purple ninja in question. Bar none.

It may not seem obvious, but a lot of these opening lines are (situationally or ironically) funny in nature! Overall it’s obvious that I like to start as close to in media res as possible. And I like my opening line to set a tone for the story! You can tell right off the bat that some of these are going to have a personalized narrator (#7, #5), some are a little more cinematic (#2, which also doubles as funny because reread it with cause every time we touch, i get this feeling) and sometimes with dialogue, and sometimes with a short impact statement (15, 19). Both 18 and 20 hint at/imply the sad tone of their stories, or at least that the narrator is Going Thru It.

What is your total word count on AO3?

184,595. Oh--wow, I didn’t think it would be that high. And come to think of it, I have a bunch of stuff on Tumblr, too, so I actually wonder if it probably isn’t up to 200K by now. 

How often do you write?

I try to write every day, at least every other day, but that can include outlining, editing, etc. not just straight up writing!

Do you have a routine for writing?

I try to jot down an outline first--usually not an organized one, but often just a list of scenes, and one of my weird quirks is I almost always have to know the beginning and ending of a story, sometimes down to a line, before I start. Some of the rest I can discover as I write, but those tend to stick--even when I’m tempted to change up the ending, as with Nidhana, it often...just doesn’t work.

What are your favorite tropes/pairing?

*grins* Oh boy, I feel as though most of these are embarrassingly obvious.

Tropes: unreliable narrators, female friendships/rivalry/complex changing relationships, all the backstory and world building, a focus on forgotten (usually female) characters, dramatic irony, hope and kindness and goodness winning out at the end of the day.

Pairing: My template ship is probably Fierce Idealistic Female Character/Good-Hearted Dude Who Thinks She’s Great And Visibly Eyehearts At Her Throughout (tbh, many of my main ships fit that pattern). But in terms of other platonic pairings, I do also adore unexpected and unusual character interactions that I hadn’t thought of before. Especially in mythology! A good example is the Shakuni-Amba/Shikandi friendship that @singingthunderstorms prompted and now it’s the random heartbreaking head canon I can’t forget ;)

Do you have a favorite fic of yours?

This  changes with the hour, but let’s say Nidhana? The euphoria of having finished hasn’t yet worn off. 

Your fic with the most kudos?

That would be Coming Home, the Han & Padme afterlife fic that miraculously hasn’t been undone by canon. I’m actually quite proud? This was yet another example of Avani-comes-from-the-movies-emotional-and-writes-fic, but I think it’s an unusual character combination and a decent Han voice. Also manages to keep Han in-character and loving towards his son instead of launching into the heartbroken screed that I wanted to pursue at the time, so well done, past Avani.

Anything you don’t like about your writing?

Well I am aware that I struggle with action scenes, which must come as no surprise. I’m...also not great at smut, which is why I do everyone a favor and stick to fade-to-blacks and innuendo. 

Stylistically, though, I know I use too many dialogue tags and adverbs. It’s such a bad habit! I can’t stop. 

Now something you do like?

I think I usually do a decent job of characterization? I’m also fond of quite a lot of my opening lines. Apparently I can manage angst. *laughs* I’ve also come to have some faith that I can write funny fic that at least the handful of lovely readers I have might also find amusing? *shrugs*

Dreams were usually pleasant after all, letting you escape reality for a while and find some solace or peace in them. Still, as comforting as they could be at times, they were nothing more than illusions — a simple distraction for the moment. Sometimes though they could help, set a goal for you to strive for and give you hope for change. Dreams arn't bad to have as long as you knew how to temper your expectations and not be disappointed if they didn't come true like you had hoped.

Still, he'd let the psychic hedgehog have his moment with his dream. It wouldn't hurt after all, letting him have that moment of tranquility and peace in silence. Might seem foolish to some BUT a moment is all it usually all it takes sometimes to recharge and clear yourself of any negativity — it helped a lot. The guardian would know all too well after all.
