Episode 4: Sourcing

This is one of the few days Soyoun isn't busy, so she makes the most of this opportunity to go out and get the rest of this project done.

"What's up, everyone! It's your girl Astrid, oh yeah!" Soyoun sings into the cameras once they start rolling. "Welcome back to another episode of Astrid's Atelier!" Gesturing to her surroundings, Soyoun then continues talking. Viewers will notice that Soyoun is not in her studio but in the middle of a traditional village instead. "As you can see, we are finally outside my studio for once. Woooo!" She waves her arms in the air in celebration.

"We'll be doing one of my favorite parts of the whole design process which is…. drumroll please." She asks the camera crew to make drumroll noises, knowing that Eunjo unnie would never. Once she's satisfied, she announces it. "Sourcing!"

As they walk, Soyoun continues to talk. "Sourcing is really important because this is basically when we shop around for everything." Soyoun has already talked to the actual hanbok maker who will help bring her design to life via email, but this is the first time they will meet in person. "At this point, this is when we look for the manufacturer, the materials, the packaging, the labels, the trims, everything!" Soyoun gestures by spreading her arms to emphasize that she literally means everything.

"But before that, we should already have our tech packs ready," she says, holding up some folders.

The camera man's voice is audible when he asks "What's a tech pack?"

"I'm glad you asked," Soyoun says as she shows off a blueprint. "It's basically the blueprint of the entire outfit. It's basically a guide for the seamstresses or production factories. It's the benchmark to be followed to achieve the final product. It's also a crucial component for requesting pricing and sourcing items, which is what we're doing today."

Soyoun should probably make a more detailed episode on finding the right manufacturer if she ever has a chance. "I would show you how this meeting goes, but unfortunately, my chosen manufacturer has requested not to be filmed. Besides, in this case, it works for me because it'll narrow down your guesses. Alize are smart, and one clue from me will give away everything else."

The video then shows a montage of Soyoun entering an traditional style house before transitioning to Soyoun in the traditional market. "Now my meeting is done, we're doing the next thing, which is sourcing for fabric and other materials." They're now in one of the fabric stores that sells fabric specifically for what Soyoun has in mind. She purposely chooses fabrics in all the members' respective colors so no one can guess which of the other Crystallis members is her muse. She also takes her manufacturer's advice into account as she chooses material.

She then shows off a sword she found to the cameras. "What do we think of this?" She asks as she draws it as if she were the lead of a sageuk drama. As the shop owner tells her that it's a replica of a piece from the Joseon dynasty, Soyoun hums in thought. "Can I have one made instead? And how much will it cost?" As Soyoun gets a quote from the shop owner, her eyes turn into saucers as she turns to the cameras. "WHAT?! Did you hear how much it cost?" Blinking, she starts yapping. "Part of sourcing adventures is finding out how much things cost." Pouting, she turns to the cameras. "Maybe we can look elsewhere. But we'll have to find out if anyone else makes these. Let's go!"

The video then shows off Soyoun going shopping, eating, touching fabrics, and buying all the materials she needs. Thankfully, she has managed to find all that she needs, and all that's left are the weapons, which she will figure out some other time. It's getting dark outside, and she's supposed to be back for night-time practice soon.

"I shall see you guys next time. Bye!"
