Super Eagles set to get Ghana in Qatar 2022 World Cup draw
Nigeria’s Super Eagles will have to get the better of the Black Stars of Ghana if they hope to qualify for a fourth straight FIFA World Cup after both sides were paired up in the play-off draw for the 2022 Qatar World Cup on Saturday in Douala, Cameroon.
The games will take place between March 24 and 29, with the first leg taking place in Ghana while the return leg will come up in Nigeria.
The Super Eagles, who have been to every FIFA World Cup except one since making their debut appearance at the 1994 tournament in the United States, qualified for the third round play-offs by virtue of their top-place finish in a second round group that had Cape Verde, Liberia, and Central African Republic.
The Super Eagles are looking like a completely different prospect at the AFCON following the departure of Gernot Rohr.
Meanwhile, Ghana advanced to the third round play-offs after finishing ahead of South Africa, Ethiopia, and Zimbabwe in Group G.
The Black Stars, after missing out of the last World Cup in Russia, will be hoping to make their fourth appearance at football’s biggest tournament in Qatar.
This is irrespective of the fact that their outing at the AFCON in Cameroon has been disastrous.
There were also some question marks about their victory over South Africa during the second round of the World Cup qualifiers.
Under former Nigeria international, Augustine Eguavoen, the Super Eagles, have romped through the group stage with a 100 per cent record and are looking like genuine AFCON contenders.

' Nigerian footballers crashed hope
New Post has been published on https://www.blueprint.ng/nigerian-footballers-crashed-hope/
' Nigerian footballers crashed hope
In just four days, Nigeria’s woes in global soccer especially as it concerns cadet representation know no bound. Last Sunday, exactly on February 18, 2018, the country’s Under-17 Women team, Flamingos for the first time failed to qualify for FIFA Youth championship otherwise known as U-17 Women World Cup after they couldn’t survive Cameroonian firepower in a two-legged qualifier game.
On February 22, another shocker descended from Abidjan, Ivory Coast, venue of maiden West Africa Football Union (WAFU) tournament which will end this weekend and it panned out that Africa’s Women best team, Super Falcons lost to their Ghanaian counterparts in the semi-final.
This same Nigerian senior Women Squad had won virtually every edition of African Women Championship (AWC) (ideally the continental version of Women’s Nation Cup) in the past, including the last edit ion that held in 2016 at Cameroon. It is now disheartening to note that many times African champions have eventually began to struggle at the regional level (West Africa).
In fact, Ghanaian Coach whose side defeated Nigerian girls 5-4 through penalty shoot-out and will host 2018 AWC boasted afterwards; “Nigeria will never defeat Ghana, again.” Were you surprised to hear that? I don’t blame the tactician from the gold coast. I can only fault Administrators at Glasshouse who have refused to make hay while the sun was shining.
After winning AWC in 2016, when Florence Odegbami who later emerged as Africa’s best female coach was in charge of Super Falcons on interim terms, Amaju-Pinnick led Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) turned blind eyes on them to the extent that the team had no single activity throughout last year.
In the wake of 2018, only few days to ongoing WAFU event in Cote D’Ivoire, NFF Board engaged new Gaffer (a foreign coach) for the team who led them to attend first ever regional soccer championship for Women. The outcome of unpreparedness, disorganisation and maladministration is what every football Stakeholder has seen. Our darling Falcons has been turned to object of regional stock with no meaningful impact. I know some would say after all, those that are taking part in the tournament are not in the ‘main’ stream of the team. I agree. But don’t also forget that the situation is not entirely different with other countries parading players from their various domestic leagues.
After action ceased in later part of 2017, no female player in any of the Nigeria Women Premier league has kicked football since then. Yet NFF has blatantly assembled some of them to represent supposed Africa’s most populated Nation at WAFU without adequate preparation.
The Flamingos had suffered similar (quick fire approach) fate before they began qualifier campaign ahead of this year’s FIFA Under-17 Women World Cup. The young girls who are supposed to be amateur players, still learning how to kick and hold balls, were assembled within ten days and were meant to face Ethiopia during their first fire of qualifying baptism. They managed to scrap into the next stage of the qualifiers before their Cameroonian opponents pushed them aside and moved on.
Apart from Flamingos and Super Falcons’ team B nemesis; there has been virtually no remarkable move to reposition age-grade soccer system in Nigeria in the past two or three years. Under the watch of current NFF leadership, Nigeria couldn’t qualify for under -17 and 20 Men African championships in the same period, barely two years ago. When things seem to be moving at least on the average, Nigeria won FIFA under-17 World Cup a record five times since 1985. Exploits recorded at those times produced Nigerian footballers who were and are still trail-blazing in parts of the world. And so, the dwindling story never stops. The only expertise anyone expects from glasshouse especially since 2014 is always an emergency approach to football development. At some point last year, the under-15 male team needed to attend one invitational event outside Nigeria, some bunch of coaches who hurriedly got the team together, were immediately gathered.
I only wish or pray that the current coaching arrangement for Flying Eagles (Nigeria U-20 male team) which was announced by the Nation’s football leaders some days ago, won’t end up crashing like their colleagues. As usual, head coach, Paul Aigbogun few hours ago, hastily announced a 28-man list that would feature during the qualifying series for 2019 African U-20 Cup of Nations.
An official press release from NFF’s Spokeman, Ademola Olajire directed all invited players to arrive at the Serob Legacy Hotel, Wuye, Abuja between this Sunday and Monday, with their international passports, birth certificates and training kits.
I’m sure these set of players will be meant to literally train with either ‘single hired or borrowed’ jerseys which should be washed once after each training session ahead of another training period.
Isn’t it a shame that National players and officials in camp will have to scramble for training kits while on national duties when the football federation is meant to be enjoying enough supply from kits sponsors, NIKE? Let there be change of style at Glasshouse

Ghana join African giants for World Cup playoffs
Black Stars of Ghana join African giants for the final 2022 FIFA World Cup play-offs following their 1-0 win over South Africa.
Andre Ayew's strike sealed all three points for Black Stars to leapfrog Bafana Bafana at the top of Group G.
Ghana started the campaign with a scrappy home win against Ethiopia at the Cape Coast Stadium.
However, the team suffered a 1-0 defeat against South Africa in the second group game at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.
The defeat led to the sacking of CK Akonnor and his two assistant coaches and resulted in the re-appointment of Milovan Rajevac who defeated Zimbabwe both home and away.
However, Ghana drew 1-1 with Ethiopia before beating South Africa to seal through to the final play-offs.
The victory means Ghana join Mali, Senegal, Morocco, Egypt, and DR Congo to the play-off stage of the World Cup qualifiers.
Africa's five World Cup representatives at Qatar 2022 will be decided when the two-legged play-offs take place in March.

Hugo Broos looking for maximum points against Zimbabwe
Hugo Broos, the coach of Bafana Bafana, is aiming for maximum points in their upcoming 2022 Qatar Fifa World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe next month.
A victory for Bafana against the Warriors, who have been ousted from the World Cup qualification campaign following three consecutive defeats, would put South Africa on the edge of reaching the final World Cup qualifying stage.
Bafana Bafana will enter that critical home encounter on the heels of three straight triumphs in which they scored five goals and surrendered only one, while Zimbabwe will be searching for their first win of the qualifiers.
“I am looking at players playing with the combinations like they did against Ghana, I am expecting them to show character like they showed against Ethiopia and I think we have a great chance to finish top in our group.
“I know the situation as it is now, in one month we have to go again with a one-point lead and that means Ghana has to win their next match against Ethiopia. There is no other solution for them.
“But first of all, for us it is to deal with Zimbabwe and I hope that my colleague (Ethiopia coach Wubetu Abate) will give a little present next month by beating Ghana to make things easy for us.”
Bafana Bafana played in front of around 2,000 supporters, and Broos stated that he would want to have more versus Zimbabwe.
“With regards to the fans, we really hope that for the next game against Zimbabwe there will be more fans in the stands. This is because if you have a bad moment in the game and you have the fans behind you, they will back you and give you energy.
“In this game we had about 2,000 fans inside FNB Stadium and maybe by the time we take on Zimbabwe it will be 10 times more because that will definitely be fantastic for the players.”
Broos went on to say that he was relieved that the two games against Ethiopia were done since they had extremely strong midfielders.
“This was a game I was a little bit afraid of, because we knew that this is a very good team, especially in the midfield. We tried to neutralise them in the midfield but we did not really succeed.
“The danger was always there and it was very difficult for us to keep the ball. We suffered a little bit, but on the other side we could score on the set-piece, and it is something that we knew there would be possibilities for us.
“This is the most important thing, to have a win and stay first in our group after four games and this is what we wanted to achieve. We had an awful trip to Ethiopia last week but the boys were fantastic and their mentality was good.
“The trip to Ethiopia was still in the legs of the boys and you saw it in the match. We didn’t neutralise their good midfield and we suffered, but I can’t blame the players because they fought for 90 minutes and they wanted victory.”
