Why is it that when u get salty water in your eye it burns but when crying you can't even feel it even though tears are salty too?

It is true that our tears do in fact have salt in them, however it is a very low concentration, less than 1 percent. Comparatively seawater has about 3.5 to 4 percent of salt in it. However it’s not just always the salt that irritates your eyes, in fact sweat has the same salinity as your tears however it “burns” your eyes more than your tears, but why? Well just like seawater it contains many other things besides water and salt. Both can contain dirt and grime, and many other things that will irritate your eyes, so it is not just the salt that burns.

Hiii! I stumbled across a post of yours and noticed you’re also studying in amsterdam. I just moved here to do my bsc!! May i ask you what cafes you would recommend for studying? x

hi! sorry for the late reply, tumblr seems to have eaten a load of messages recently. first off all i recommend the cafes in the university libraries and study spaces - my library (the one at singel) has a little cafe area which is really cosy and good for studying! i also love the coffeecompany - they have loads of branches all over the city and they’re designed to be functional work spaces. the coffee room on kinkerstraat is great too! i also like studying in joe & the juice, although it can be a little pricey. lot sixty one is a great little coffee place and i think would be a lovely work space, although i haven’t tried studying there yet. i’ve heard great things about coffee & coconuts (although when i tried to go there was a queue out of the door, not sure if it’s always that busy). i’m still discovering little places in the city myself, so if anyone else has any recommendations i’d love to hear them. i hope this was helpful to you!

how old are you? 29

current job/dream job? I work for an engineering firm as their project coordinator and I own my own wedding photography business. My dream job is to do photography full time. If only health insurance was free lol.

what are you talented at? Ummmm I honestly don’t know lol. I don’t think I have any real talents... I’m really good at directions I suppose. It’s not all that exciting, but if I go somewhere I’m not familiar, I can get myself home without the help of a map or GPS. I call it decent backtracking? Idk, is that a talent?

what is a big goal you are working towards? Being healthy. I’m chronically ill (auto-immune) so I’m constantly researching and working on finding ways of making myself feel my best while maintaining my diseases.

what is your aesthetic? I love Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte - it was the first ‘classic’ long novel I really really enjoyed. I love how Jane’s character increases in confidence as she meets new people who appreciate and love her despite her ‘plain’ appearance and shyness. I studied it independently for my A Level course and wrote an essay on how the novel defies the idea that to be loved you must first be beautiful and feminine. AND i’m studying it again for Uni this year and i am BUZZED.

Otherwise, I love books by Khaled Hosseini (Kite Runner etc) but I can only read them once because they’re so sad. I especially liked A Thousand Splendid Suns but i don’t think i could ever watch the film versions - i’m a wimp.

I also love The Great Gatsby but that’s so cliche English student. It’s a great short read! I really should read some different F. Scott Fitzgerald books buuuuuut my reading list for next year has 27 books on it so looks like I won’t have time! :(
