Was he always like Roth, all the way from his youth? Is that why his father was so hard on him? Is that why his father and the Council preferred Evie? All these scoldings, reprimandings, did he actually deserve them all? Was he always a failure, a black sheep, a mistake? All of this are such a huge blows to his already fragile self esteem. So in the end, Jacob was upset about himself and his overall worth, not Roth. There are just my opinions, i really donât mean disrespect.
Lemme answer to all of this in one go.
So first of all i don't agree with the way to see Roth but! I think we should just agree to disagree! Because I know Roth is a weird character and people either love him or despise him and there is like nothing in between. But it's fine because games are supposed to connect people, not to divide us into some hateful groups.
I see Roth as a person who indeed saw something in Jacob. What it was? For me, it was being this unloved, alone child (I'll explain in a moment why Ethan had never been right in terms of raising children to please, bear with me :D)
Also I'll hide rest under this cut because I feel it's long đ
Well, what we need to remember in terms of the game is that it is based on real history. And during the industrial revolution people lived with utilitarianism in their heads (it's basically that profit of bigger group is the most important, even if it's achieved with the pain of a minority). So Roth idea to destroy a factory with children inside was a kind of logical move (destroy the factory and kill the workers - it's then harder to rebuild it). Jacob, being a good person, was obviously against it.
Roth generally seems to me as a very liberated and crazy person at the same time. But I think he actually cared for Jacob in his own, wicked way. I think Roth was the first person who actually believed in Jacob. (sorry I really don't want to go into Roth arc too much because I don't want to make you uncomfortable. I hope you don't mind ;; )
But as for Ethan! For this bastard, I have no mercy. NO MERCY FOR THAT ABSOLUTE PIECE OF GARBAGE.
This man didn't value his life at all. He never valued his children lives too! First of all, he left them all alone with their grandma. We know nothing about her but I think that, as a grandma, she was a kind woman, raising her grandchildren to be decent humans. And Ethan? He left them all alone, run away and then, after years, he came back only to train them.
The very first page of the book says that Ethan used to keep his head rested on the same hand he wore his hidden blade. It was explained how dangerous it was because he could die at any single moment and yet he kept on sitting like this! I mean what kind of father doesn't care if he dies? Especially knowing there are two, tine humans who have no one else in the world?
Have you seen Jacob scar? He has it on the same side as his hidden blade! I think that he got the scar on his cheek because he wanted to be like Ethan and rested his head the same way his father did. But his hidden blade failed, giving him a scar. It's my personal hc but I think it actually may explain a lot.
Considering that Evie is also suffered from being unable to express emotions. Look at her with Henry. She was so angry that he got hurt. Or maybe she was angrier at herself because instead of continuing the mission she rushed to save the man she cared for. It was completely against her father teaching and you can see her struggle all the time in the game because she wants to be with henry but THE DUTY. Which is even more fucked up when you listen to what the Maharaja says that Ethan and Cecily were the most powerful couple because they were together. And Ethan still decided to raise his children to be alone. I mean look at them. Jacob is charismatic, funny and a fair leader. He may not be the best at making complicated plans but he is amazing at uniting people. On the contrary to Evie who isn't the most charismatic and prefers working alone but is an outstanding strategist. Together they could be the best assassin pair. Together they would be just unbeatable! But Ethan fucked it up by making them compete against each other, by scolding them and telling shit like "emotions are bad".
I hate Ethan wholeheartedly and I'll die on this hill alone if I must.

Growing Family
Paring: Jacob x Child! Reader (*sobs* big buffy men with smol things makes me cry)
Word count: 2723Â
Warnings: tears, child abandonment, piss n shit
this was heavily inspired by this video
The loud bustling noises of London rarely stopped, and that is what excited Jacob most about the city. The countryside had its perks, and the town where he studied in the US was fun, but to Jacob, almost nothing could outshine London. The people here were unique as well, and every interaction was on some level of entertaining. Itâs what kept Jacob Frye on his toes.
After a training session, Jacob was just arriving at his home, turning the corner to his house, sweaty from the walk and The London Underground, he saw a woman holding something in her arms, glancing around. He didnât think much of it, and would have continued past her if she hadnât stopped him.
âExcuse me sir, can you help me?â
Jacob stopped and turned towards her, âWhat is it?â He asked, smiling.
âCan you hold this?â She handed him a bundle, and he was caught off guard by the weight of it.
âWhat- hey!â Jacob adjusted his weight to hold whatever was in his hands, and watched the woman get in her car and speed away. âWhat theâ Looking at what he was holding, he finally realized what was in his arms.
A child.
Luckily for him, they were sleeping. What to do now, he wasnât sure. London decided to help him figure what to do by starting to pour, and he ran down the sidewalk to his home, trying his best to not wake the sleeping kid up. As he shifted them around to pull out his keys, they made a whining noise, making him freeze momentarily. When they didnât make any more noise, he continued to pull out his keys and enter his home, being as quiet as possible.
Making his way upstairs, Jacob pondered on what to do. This kid had just been abandoned by their mother, and he had no way of contacting the dad, or any family members. They kid had been abandoned. It didnât help that the mother took off so quickly in her car, with little detail given about the child. He decided that since the kid was sleeping, the best he could do was put them in his bed, and hope they sleep the rest of the night.
Jacob had heard stories from Bayek about how laying a baby to sleep was like messing with a bomb. That the most sudden movement could wake them up and chaos would follow. So, as he carefully laid the child down, Bayekâs stories with Khemu echoed around his head, even if the child didnât look to be a baby but more around the age of a toddler. Moving his hands away, he held his breath as he backed up, and breathed once he was out in the hallway.
He pulled out his phone, and quickly scanned through his contacts. He was lost on what to do in this situation, there was no way he could do this alone. He needed more food, he only had enough to last him a week. He wasnât planning on taking care of a kid. What about clothes? How long was the kid going to be here? Should he give them to the foster system? Maybe they still have family. He took a breath in, and exhaled.
âGet a hold of yourself, Jacob. Youâre overthinking this.â Glancing back at his phone, he scanned through his contacts. One caught his attention, and he went to press the call button, but hesitated. Surely he would have experience with something like this, but he didnât want to bother him. Would it be worth it? I mean, he could call Evie or Henry, maybe even Freddy. Jacob sighed and hit call.Â
The phone rang for a bit, before it was answered. âHello?â
âHello Father. Listen, I know you are probably busy, but I needâŚâ Jacob inhaled, â...some adviceâ.
Silence. Jacob was about to hang up before, âWhat have you done now?â
âWell, I didnât do much actually. This woman asked for some assistance in holding something of hers, and when she handed it to me, she took off in her car.â He hesitated, before bluntly saying, âShe gave me a childâ
âPardon?â
âA child. They're sleeping in my room, but I donât know what to do now. I donât even know the kidâs name.â
A string of curses was heard from the other end, before Ethan was heard sighed heavily on the other end. âDo you have enough food?â
âFor a few daysâ.
âHow about clothes, do they have clothes?â
âOnly what they are wearingâ Scribbling could be heard on the other end.
âAlright, Iâll be over tomorrow, and Iâll help you sort this outâ.
Jacob stopped breathing. Tomorrow? He was grateful for the help, but did his dad really have to come out so soon? Why would he? He called for advice, he didn't expect his dad coming to visit, especially since heâs so busy. âDo you not have work?â
âIâm free for this week. Iâll be there around 8.â
âAlright, see you thenâ.
The call ended, and Jacob rubbed his face in his hands. He now had another guest to worry about. He figured his father would give him a checklist of what to do, but now he was coming over. Still, inside Jacob was happy his father was willing to come help him. Only a little bit though.
Luckily for Jacob, the kid slept through the night, and Jacob woke up around 7 am, to the sound of shuffling footsteps coming from his room. Getting up slowly, Jacob had nearly forgotten the previous day's occurrences, before realizing that those footsteps were those of a child. Oh god, that means they are awake.Â
Ripping the blankets off his body, he made his way upstairs, and saw the child shuffling around his room, looking around tiredly, and confused. When they saw Jacob at the doorway, and walked up to him, looking up with a head tilt, clearly confused to who he was. âWhat the bloody hell do I say? âOh yes good morning child! Your mom gave you away last night so now I have you here at my home! And my father is coming to help figure out what to do with you!â no I canât say that, itâs a child!â
A grumbling noise was heard, and Jacob assumed that the kid was hungry when they looked down and placed a hand on their belly. Holding his hand out, Jacob waited for them to look up, and after a moment, grabbed his hand as he led them through the house downstairs to the kitchen.
Jacob decided it was best to keep an eye on them as much as possible, considering that they were very small, and that he didnât want them hurting themselves around the house. Picking them up, he made sure nothing in the vicinity could hurt them, before placing them on the counter. âWhat do you want for breakfast?â
They titled their head, blinking a bit, before looking around. Upon seeing the fridge, their eyes lit up, and they pointed at the appliance. Jacob walked over and opened the door.
âAlright, I have ham, bacon, and eggs-â
âEggs!â They were cheering, clapping their hands and bouncing up and down.
Jacob smiled, âEggs it isâ. Taking out what he needed, he began to cook for the two of them, as the child continued to repeat what they said, excited for the eggs. Once the eggs were done, he picked them up and placed them in a chair in the dining room. Jacob ended up grabbing pillows from his couch and placed them on the chair as a booster, before grabbing the eggs, and placing one plate in front of them, and digging into his own. He was worried they wouldnât know how to eat by themselves, however it seems they at least knew how to eat with their hands.
Once they were done eating, Jacob cleaned up, and made sure to clean them up as well, before moving to the living room, waiting for Ethan to arrive.Â
Jacob was looking out the window when he felt movement next to him, and looked down to see the kid staring at him, curious.
âMama?â
That hurt Jacob. This child was confused. Last they had seen their mom, they had fallen asleep in her arms, only to wake up in a strange house. What that mother did made his blood boil, but he would deal with his anger later. Right now he had to clarify who he was to this kid. âJacobâ, he said as he pointed at himself, smiling.Â
âEheeeheeuwbeekehh awskwskswskwesawdehâ
Jacob blinked. He didnât speak gibberish. Still, he grinned, ruffling their hair. Hopefully they had some relatives they could get in contact with. Jacob looked out the window, and saw Ethan walking up to the door, hauling two suitcases, with grocery bags hanging off of him. Standing up, he went to the door and opened it. âI see you have had a busy morningâ.
âI haveâ. Ethan huffed before looking down, noticing the toddler behind Jacob, curious eyes looking at him, confused and intrigued. âWhen you said a child I thought you meant around 8 years old, not a toddlerâ.
âThey are the same thing, arenât they?â
âAbsolutely not.âÂ
Jacob looked his dad up and down. âWould you like some assistance?â
âI raised you and Evie I can handle thisâ. Ethan made his way to move through the door after Jacob stepped aside with the child in tow, and attempted to squeeze through the door frame.
âAre you sure?â Jacob grinned.
âYesâ. Ethan tried several more times, before silently handing Jacob the grocery bags, who took them chuckling at his fatherâs antics.
Once Ethan was settled, and the food was stored, they gathered in the living room, around one of the suitcases. The toddler sat beside Jacob, looking at him.
Jacob looked back, and glanced at his dad, unsure of what to do or rather how to respond to them, especially when they pointed at him. Ethan only shrugged, before being confused as well when they moved their finger towards Ethan, head tilting. Ethan decided to try something out, and pointed at himself.
âEthanâ. He pointed at his son. âJacobâ
The toddler pointed at Jacob, âJacobâ they pointed back at Ethan. âEthabâ. They looked around, finger wagging about as they twisted around. âMama?â
Jacob pointed at his dad, âEthan,â he pointed back at himself, âJacobâ.
 âJacob, check if they smellâ.
âWhat?â
âDo they stink?â
Jacob went to go grab them, but they walked away from him, going to the plant that Henry had gifted him, looking around. Jacob shared a glance with his dad, as the kid pulled down their pants and pull-ups together, causing the Fryes to panic and get the kid away from the plant at minimum.
They ended up making a mess on the floor, to which Jacob decided to clean, and Ethan decided to give them a bath. So, Ethan whisked them away to the bathroom, and Jacob made quick work of the accident that nearly killed Henryâs plant.
âJacob!â Ethan called from upstairs.
âYes?â
âYou need to help with the bath. They keep saying your nameâ.
Confused, Jacob walked upstairs and into the bathroom, and upon seeing him, they clapped their hands, squealing with delight. âJacob! Jacob!â
Jacob laughed, and got on his knees besides the tub, watching his father thoroughly clean them of any filth they had on them. The whole time, they babble incoherently at Jacob, trying to talk but it only comes out in gibberish. Ethan reached for a towel he had found, and helped the child out of the tub, wrapping them in the cloth.
âIâll be back with clothes, you dry them offâ. Ethan left, and when he returned, Jacob and the toddler were pointing at each other, making goofy faces.
âI found out their name itâs- are those my clothes?â Jacob stared at the clothes that His dad had brought. Sure enough, those were clothes he wore as a kid. âWhy did you bring my clothes?â
âCheaper than buying new ones.â Ethan laid the clothes out. âI also brought pull-ups, so all we need to get is a toilet for them to go to the bathroom, that way they donât make big messes again.â
Jacob nodded, and started to help the kid get dressed. âTheir name is (Y/n)â.Â
Ethan nodded, âMight be best to check if a toddler has been reported missing.â
Jacob found the missing children website, and got to searching. As much as he searched and called, he couldnât find a single lead into where (y/n) came from. Sighing, he rubbed his temples, and lazily glanced up towards his dad who stood at the entryway of the living room.
âNo luck I suppose?â
 âNope.â
Ethan sighed, before taking a seat on the couch besides Jacob. âWe can try again tomorrowâ.
Jacob nodded. (Y/n) was upstairs taking a nap, which gave them a moment of peace. For the most part, Ethan had been watching over them as Jacob tried to get information. Seeing his dad handle a kid so easily made him wonder what it must have been like for Ethan when he was younger. âFather,â Ethan looked at him, âwhat was it like raising Evie and I? Did it feel similar to this in a way?â
Ethan looked forward, taking a deep breath, holding it for a bit before sighing. âIn a way, yes. I had two babies to raise and look after, and your mom had justâŚâ he trailed off, rubbing his palms together. âIt was hard. It was all sudden, and even after all those months of preparation, I felt extremely unprepared. In most other situations, sudden events are thrilling. This wasnât as thrilling, considering everything that had happened, but I gave it my best.
âYou both were rascals, intelligent, energetic and absolutely a nightmare when you played together.â Jacob chuckled, remembering the times him and Evie would scare his dad. âI love every second of it.â
âLove?â
âIâm still your bloody father, aren't I?â Ethan grabbed Jacob in a neck hold, giving him a noogie, âSomeone has to teach you sense.â
Jacob laughed, slapping away at his fatherâs arms. They laughed, and settled back down. âWhat happens if I canât find their family?â
âPerhaps they will be put into foster care.â
âI donât know about that.â
âItâs not your kid Jacob.â
âI know but,â he hesitated, before continuing. âIt doesnât feel right to give them to the system.â
Ethan crossed his arms, âWhat will you do then?â
Jacob thought about it for a moment. He wasnât planning on being a father anytime soon, but the more he thought about it, the idea wasnât too bad. Undoubtedly the paparazzi might begin to follow him around more, but there are ways to avoid them. He turned to his dad, grinning. âIâll take care of themâ.
Before Ethan could respond, the doorbell rang. Standing up, Jacob walked over to the door and opened it. âI was beginning to think I couldnât have any more guests!â
âWho else could possibly be- father?â Evie peered into the home, confused as to why Ethan was sitting on the couch. âWhat are you doing in London?â
âHelping Jacobâ.
Evie walked inside, and so did Henry Green. âWhat has Jacob done now?â Before Jacob or Ethan could answer, a wailing began from upstairs.
Ethan and Jacob shared a glance, as Henry and Evie looked at both of them for answers. Jacob made his way upstairs, hastily opening the door to his room, to find (Y/n) sitting on the bed, crying. âMama! Mama!â They continued to call out for their mom, hugging themselves, shaking.
Jacob walked over to the bed, gently shushing them, and reached out a hand to try and console them. (Y/n) stood up on the bed, still crying, and began to pound their fists against Jacob. He looked down at the child, shushing them softly in an attempt to calm them down. When that didnât work, he picked them up. Eventually, they calmed down, wrapping their arms around Jacob and sniffling into his neck. He turned to the door slightly, to see the others there, watching.
Evie glanced between him and (Y/n), looking pitiful. âWhat kind of situation did you get yourself into?â

For those that don't know: No I do not ship Jacob and Ethan Frye. The thread I did with another beautiful rper which involved corporal punishment was not sexual! It was historically accurate. Ethan worked as a schoommaster as well as an assassin. Schoolmasters in Victorian England were known to be very strict and used corporal punishment. And we all know how Jacob was a little shit in his teenage years. And even as strict as Ethan was, I don't think I portrayed him being as harsh as he could have been. Children and teenagers were beaten for something as trivial as talking back or not finishing their schoolwork. Where as I think Ethan only used corporal punishment for the most serious offenses. [Like almost getting himself and his father killed because he was drunk and breaking his father's ribs] In case I am not clear. There is NO SEXUAL RELATIONSHIP! That thread was carefully planned out and both muns agreed on the content. I understand that many people are uncomfortable with the idea of corporal punishment but to just see one post and immediately label it as torture or incest is just absolutely ridiculous.

I hear that you have some good reasoning as to why Evie should have worn a corset and am intrigued
wowsies, I havenât notice this ask (beloved tumblr donât show notifications, and i was on a hiatus for a bit) SORRY ANON!
(oK so I was screaming to @teal0gic about it for like solid 20 minutes, you can find the post under the cut)
So, *cracks fingers* let me begin
Before I get to the point why it could be useful in combat, let me point out some of the facts about them and bust some myths:
wearing corsets doesnât hurt, and is hardly uncomfortable if you are used to it;Â
It canât kill you, shouldnât make you faint as well; all this infamous fainting in the ballrooms was mostly caused by lack of oxygen (a lot of burning candles and crowds of people in badly ventilated room, since windows were rarely opened) or illnesses, and wasnât even that frequent
it does move and deform your organs- but pregnancy does too, and itâs even worse then. Also, it has little to no impact on womanâs health. This myth was created by moralists- men, that have never ever tried a corset on anyway
They shouldnât be laced to the extreme- it is hurtful and dangerous. Corset should be well-fitted, pushing all the FAT down (another thing- corsetâs doesnât make you flat-bellied and fit, when you look at it from the side it actually looks like one has been pregnant for a few months...), so every woman would get different effect ; it depends on anatomy. I, for example, using 1870/80 corset, have 22 inch waist with barely laced corset- and Iâm not the most thin person- and my really skinny friend, using corset made of the exactly same pattern looks like a plank. Why? because i have ribs naturally going in very extreme V shape (and a good amount of fat to push down)- and she hasnât. Corset doesnât automatically mean hourglass body, unfortunately.
Women back then were used to it. Actually I like comparing corsets to bras; the purpose, after all, was very similar. Lets do it then; imagine you have big boobs. like, very, truly big. Itâs ok when youâre wearing bra; but one day, someone takes it from you:Â âbee free, my friend, enjoy your life to the fullest, with your chest out of the horrid cage!â
It hurts, doesnât it? I mean, running is terrible, sleeping is terrible, jumping is a fucking horror; that what 19th century women would feel without corsets. Whatâs more, the corset held the whole upper part of their bodies in straight position- muscles on their back were very weak, and being left without a corset meant being left in quite a pain.
Now, letâs finally go to Evie, shall we?
First of all let me reveal a scandalous secret: Evie Frye doesnât wear a bra. Or anything. Barely a thin, cotton/linen shift under her clothes. Since her chest is not the smallest, fighting and parkour must be terrible. Iâm so sorry for you, Evie.Â
imho  the writes of the game did a terrible job working on historical accuracy; they obviously donât understand history, because inserting modern philosophy, modern way of thinking and being politically correct should not take place in such things at all. We need to forget 200 years of development, if we want it to work out. Ethan doesnât have servants in his house, even heâs wealthy enough to have them- itâs because he doesnât want to use people, he says, but what he does is basically not letting them earn money in a good conditions. If he really felt so bad for servants, why in the sweet heavens hadnât he got one or two and treat them well and paid them well? The same twisted logic comes with ârescuingâ kids from factories; they may be free, but theyâll die of hunger in a few weeks became pickpockets and thieves, congratulations, good job
The same goes for Evie. My point is, she doesnât wear a corset, oh, how feminist and coolâs that, sheâs so against the rigid Victorian society! Well, no. In a way it makes her weaker (the absolutely ridiculous ball sequence; the whole hate on that oh so bad clothes anD NO ABILITY TO RUN???? LIKE WHAT THE FUCK EVIE I have E from PE and I climbed a fucking mountain in a well laced corset and without all this free space around my ankles you had wearing a crinoline???) and takes away quite a chance to have.... an armour.
Of course, corsets limit the range of body movement, and I can understand that could be a problem; It blocks the ability to bend in half, takes away all the flexibility of the torso, but you can run and jump in this thing just fine. Since it presses on lungs in one way or another, the stamina bar of the wearer is also shorter than one of the person not wearing it; but thatâs all the cons i could think of right now. Of course; quite troublesome for an assassin, but I guess it would be possible to overcome it with the right training.
The armour thing is interesting as well: standard corset is made from two (or more) layers of thick cotton, and a steel boning. Shitâs pretty hard to tear; it works just fine as a light armour. By the pressure it creates on the veins it also kinda prevents massive bleeding; Empress Elisabeth of Austria, when stabbed in a heart, lost just a few drops of blood and died when they took off her corset, and i think it proves my point here
Tl;dr: Evie should wear a corset because it can do as an armour and a breast support and is 100% wearable and safe
(iâm working on an article about victorian clothing (mostly for fanfiction writers) right now so if youâre interested so )
