🌟Just a quick note to let you know that you’re doing better than you think. Life can be tough, and it’s easy to overlook your own strength, but you’ve made it this far, and that’s no small thing. You bring something unique to the world just by being here. Even on the hard days, remember that your presence has an impact. Take a moment to appreciate how far you've come, and know that you matter, more than you realize. You’re not alone in this, and things will get better. Keep going, one step at a time🌟
I remember a few years ago, there was this trend going around, of people sending positive messages like this one to random accounts.
Having said that, I don't know if this was written especially with me in mind, or if it is still from that trend. Nonetheless, thank you so much for taking the time. 🤍 Really. I read it on the day you sent it, but I was too emotional to reply. Thank you!
--
And if you (or anyone reading this) also needs to be reminded of how special they are - then please, go ahead and read it again, but not as a message someone sent to me, but as a message I've sent to you!
Let me also be the person that says how unique and necessary you are; to wish you all the strength you need to survive yet another day, and that reminds you of all past challenges you've already won ✨ we are so much stronger than we think...
→ About this song: if you do not understand portuguese, please search for the lyrics' and look for its translation.
(and now, totally unrelated, but more about this song and the people behind it, below)
Totally not related to this ask, nor to this song's meaning, but, if you want to go on a deep dive, check out António Variações.
Tumblr media
Humanos, was a supergroup created by 7 musical giants, and performed by 3 amazing and already famous singers, from different music genres (pop, pop-rock and fado).
They got together to give a different spin to some already known songs that Variações released during his lifetime, and to bring back to life some of his exclusive/unreleased music.
In 2004 they were everywhere, and it was such a beautiful historical moment to witness!
Tumblr media
They not only honoured his (unfortunately) short life, but also reminded Portuguese society how talented, revolutionary and ahead of its time he looked and behaved (and I am obviously not just talking about his fashion sense).
And more importantly, they showed us how today's society would still discriminate against him, and that what he (and others) started back in the 80s, it's still (in 2024) far from the ideal they (and every LGBTQIA+ ally) would consider safe, fair and true.
It's better, of course, but we still need people like him: people who are brave, not afraid to be vulnerable, true to their values, and loyal to ones we love (and love us back).
Tumblr media
There's a movie about him, called "Variações" that I also highly recommend! (TMI: It was the last movie I watched in theatre, before 2020's lockdown 🥲 I truly thought: "well, at least the last movie I watched outside was this masterpiece")

Joe, babe, I'm sorry but you're too powerful now. I need to unfollow your hashtags, otherwise my Tumblr becomes a fanpage 😭
(and last time that happened was with John Frusciante 🤠 no regrets. Search for his hashtags on my page, and you'll see thousands of photos)

Reading statements like the one above, always make me nostalgic AS F*CK, and with an insane will to vent about it.
Not long ago I even went into an improvised deep-dive about my presence online (it is in portuguese - as seen on the image below). I wrote whatever came to mind, and then I tried to separate the text into smaller chunks, and did a photo-montage, for the intro ahahahha
Is it perfect? No. Just like every rambling I ever posted under #estranhossonhos (and on all other platforms, past blogs, etc). But every time I get triggered, and feel the insane itch to register what I am thinking, I have to do it. And when I do, I lose track of time, forget to eat, drink and only come back to reality when it's dark outside, and I feel the need to turn the lights on, so I don't keep straining my eyes. In the end, I always get pissed me off, because I got so carried away, with no self-control and didn't leave the house like I had planned to, for that daily silly walk for my mental health, to socialise or to do some groceries. So, recently I found myself trying to reframe this self-deprecating way of viewing this «itch». I have to, otherwise the sense of failure will eat me alive, and I'll just stop writing, like I've done a thousand times before. From now on, I want to think about these writing sessions as something productive. I did NOT stay on the computer the whole day, doing nothing, instead of applying for jobs (that's a conversation for another day). I am registering my life story. I am doing this for me, for my peace of mind and self-discovery. And even though I appreciate the joy that comes with the occasional virality I get, from a random post/tweet/thread/comment, on other platforms (since on Tumblr I only experienced that years ago, when I was sharing photos from John Frusciante, that were not in here🤠), all I seek is proof of my existence.
Specially after the (still recent) death of my grandfather, following an (always) unfair battle against alzheimer. This insane desire to write has only grown on me. It's so sad not knowing what past family members thought about. How truly were their personalities, outside of work, with no family drama, and no influence of other people. I recognise I am also to blame. I should have asked more about them; I should have spent more time with them. But the way I was brought up, made me feel insecure to be on a personal level with my elders. And if I wanted them to be open with me, they would also want me to be more personal with them. But at that time, I was only an angry teenager, always shouting, crying, full of rage because I couldn't understand why I was feeling that way, why people didn't understand me, how fucked-up the world suddenly seemed to work. And all of that only made me look like a spoiled brat, that can only grace her presence during mealtime or special festivities. I don't even want to go into detail and think how they probably felt towards me. How sad, frustrated or unloved I made them feel. It is all part of this family's generational trauma. Communication and talking about our feelings were a waste of time. Therefore, they didn't learn how to talk without sounding angry, and neither did I. I know. And it still feels heavy. In conclusion (before it gets dark outside - I'll not review to correct grammatical errors, typos, etc, sorry i REALLY NEED to be outside today): although I am trying to be more vocal in real life, show a mature and calm side of myself, and by doing therapy ever since I can remember, at least I have this space where I can be myself, plus multiple past blogs and accounts (with all links written down on a piece of paper - yes, really) just in case I have the misfortune of failing and pass this on to future generations, or in case I have the misfortune of inheriting my grandfather's luck - I was here. I existed. I was alive and these are my memories, my little bitches 😘 - and don't waste your time like I did: I do love you and I know you love me (unless you tried to kill me or something, k? okay).

When I first saw the music video all I could think of - at the tender age of 8 - was how cool the singer looked with that bandana and ruffled shirt ahaha
I was completely hypnotised, glued to the TV, thinking that I needed to ask my mom for similar bandana, so I could look that cool in school. The whole look was a slay - he looked like a cool victorian pirate! - but mini me want to start small and that simple clothing item was enough ahaha!
Thankfully, I didn't bring it to school (I was already bullied enough) but I managed to find one, that I would wear around the house while trying to imitate his dance moves 😎 💅
Maybe now that I am experimenting again with my personal sense of fashion, I'll do an updated version of this look (I can't do the skinny white trousers. I am sorry Ian ahaha it looked great on you though - congrats)

Absolutely perfect as well!

I need to write this down 🤡
I was away for a few years, but since I got back on Tumblr, every other day, and I am ashamed by how clueless I can be (adhd says hi, i guess).
Anyway,...
I usually check all notifications, to see who is it from and what was it about, because I share in here some personal texts (and yes, because I am nosy, and already forgot what I shared 2 seconds ago- adhd says hi. again). And whenever it's something related to John Frusciante*, this is what usually happens:
🧠 - "Aw, look at him! And yey, another fan! Oh but, damn, when was it? ... when did I start spamming about him and and his work? 🤡 Oh, ok."
Let me explain: I am most certainly wrong about this, and even though he is one of the most well-known guitarists, in the world, my 🧠 still believes that it's super rare to find other people that follow-up on this man's amazing (and decades long) lifework - especially on Tumblr. BUT THE THING IS, 80% of the times, that single notification* takes me to an account with more content about him. So, I get distracted, start scrolling and liking all of them... until I stop and notice, that a some (a lot) of that content was done BY YOURS TRULLY, ME, MYSELF AND I, IN 2012! 👵
@loveinallthismess, thank you for prompting this nostalgic moment 🤍 and also to everyone else that, ever since 2012, has shared this same respect and esteem, towards him.
It's been a pleasure to be coastally reminded on how much he helped me back then. I hope he is helping you heal, too 🤍

"It wasn't me", as the great philosopher Shaggy once said 🤓
However, this is something I also often wonder about, especially when I find myself being influenced by *someone’s art, ideas, or whatever it was that made me gravitate towards them or their product/service.
And it’s only natural to have this kind of curiosity towards a public figure, for various reasons – as long as it doesn’t put anyone in danger, it becomes unhealthy or illegal.
Disclaimer: *I will not be referring to any specific DEG member, unless their name is clearly stated. And this is not a diss towards anyone, I just enjoy to infodump. I'm just girl with ADHD and too many hyperfixations. Look -> a cat: ≽^-⩊-^≼
(You can skip; I tend to over-explain things, so I'll set these extra bits of rambling as indented text) I always find it curious how artists, especially those who started their careers before social media, are much more private* and don't share their interests or political views, as much as the «youngsters» (insert Steve Buscemi meme). Or, if it was shared and you cannot find it, it's due to the fact that it was done via other (offline) channels that are not available online, it is a rumour, it's not recent, or you don't believe the source's reliability. *And that's okay, it's normal, it's logical - I am not complaining. It was only a sidenote.
In fact, my views on this matter might sound contradictory at first, but let me try to explain myself:
I am a firm believer that the private lives of public figures shouldn't be open to scrutiny,
unless
what they said/did/like/etc. goes against anyone's life + freedom. As well as, whatever they said/did/like is straight-up criminal, and they're not facing the law like any human being [because they had access to certain privileges - being that money, people, services or information - that should be of easy + equal access (if they were legally obtained) by any regular citizen].
For example (you know what to do, but if you didn't fully understand what I meant to say, don't skip this): (1/4) celebrities that have the power to influence millions of votes towards something good (or lesser than 2 evils) and decide to stay quiet or publicly support FASCISTS, I mean certain politicians; (2/4) or whenever they decide not use their reach/influence to denounce something/give voice to the voiceless, in which they – most certainly – could change its outcome for the better; (3/4) whenever they make a living endorsing a certain message/lifestyle/service/product that, e.g., promotes environmental awareness, but in private they take their private jets everywhere - even if the destination is "two blocks away"; (4/4) aren't facing the legal consequences of a crime they were found or are clearly guilty of, because they had access to powerful lawyers and can influence the jury, public opinion, judges, etc. The list goes on and on, but you get the idea.
Because, just like they are potentially are now influencing my political views or the way I dress or act, I also want to know what shaped them when they created whatever service/product they are now selling to the general public.
(*ok, lets now restrict this a little bit) So, whenever an artist* voluntarily provides their something personal* (not endorsed = no $ monetary $ gain), by telling us what guided them when they were young, or during a certain period of their life/career (*and I'm here referring to something mundane, such as their ultimate favourite media format, or what they dislike about X or Y subject), I tend to add those to my (endless) list of subjects to research or media to consume.
It's no surprise but still: that's why most of the time they lie or omit certain things - because this will either strengthen this parasocial relationship, or break it.
Once that info is out, it will inevitably generate some kind of reaction. And the analysis done by the public, from said information, will give them - directly or indirectly*, and being truthful or not - an idea of these artists values and morals.
Another round of examples (with my very own personal judgement): if they are okay working with people like Dr. Luke or they say their still current and all-time favourite actor is Bill Cosby = 🚩; when they tell us they advocate for LGBTQIA+ rights and/or how it positively influenced their work or sense of self (and - to a certain extent, because they can always be lying - we know it's not a publicity stunt) = ✅; when they mislead/miscommunicate something unintentionally, are educated about it, but continue doing it = 🚩; when they continuously and publicly show their personal growth/change of hearts towards something they were previously in the wrong about (because yes I believe in education and that people can change - call me optimistic, I guess) = ✅.
Knowing why and how anything was created, and the external stimuli behind it all, it can provide deeper insights into its significance. So, while compiling this kind of data and references is a significant task for anyone, it’s always a worthwhile endeavour for future reference and to archive data that otherwise will be forever lost, or it isn't of easy access. This is actually a trending topic because even though we usually thing of archiving online some vintage magazines, early online data is also being deleted: The online data that's being deleted (bbc.com)
Tumblr media
Now, specifically speaking about DEG: again, if it is provided of their own free will, it helps fans connect more meaningfully with their work and understand the values and experiences that drive their creativity. And yes, I know Kyo doesn't like to provide his interpretation but *indirectly speaking, and with the help and knowledge of long-time community members/fans like you, it's always possible to come up with some sort of interpretation, that could potentially even be close to the truth - we'll just never know ahahahah. Oh, and before I forget and hit publish: almost every day I see people asking you stuff. I hope you understand that while we (followers) appreciate your efforts and look forward to seeing your posts, we also hope you don't let this account become a burden, and only keep this updated if it brings you joy. In the meantime, and if you want to, I can try and keep this post updated with any recent snippets of personal insights the members might share (along with source), and hope other followers, that depend on the serotonin your daily updates provide us, do the same 🥰
And now, some already classic reactions, that could sum this all up [only I remain optimistic (or delusional) whenever I try to look up anything about them 🙃]
Tumblr media
(AH wait, only noticed now this one is yours, @yridenergyridenergy ahahahaha)
Tumblr media
To the Anon who sent me the message about compiling the members' interests and references at least a couple of weeks ago: what an endeavour! I'll keep this in mind, but I am heading into a couple of busy months and I will need to reach out to other fans who might have followed different members more closely than I did. Hopefully we will have a draft to keep building on in a near future, but not now unfortunately!
