Manufacturer’s Association of Information Technology (MAIT) indicates that the electronics repairs market can create over 5 million jobs and generate a revenue of $20 billion per annum. Since India’s electronic repair costs are exponentially lower (and high cost of repairs in developed countries), we should strive to build several ERSO (Electronic Repair Service Outsourcing) start-ups over the next few years. Enable TAT (Turn Around Time) to be as low as 5-6 days, the government should invest in much-needed infrastructure and cargo ports, besides developing the shipping infrastructure. Furthermore, the current custom processes must be streamlined to enable a smooth logistics channel/corridor. The government can look at facilitating the establishment of institutions like the ‘Repair Club of India’. A significant advantage of a repair-led economy is that it helps sustainable development and reduces e-waste. Are Red Flag Laws Worthwhile?

Let's say you reside in the United States and legally own a gun. Furthermore, you are in lawful possession of that firearm. Are you aware in at least 18 states a state court can confiscate that gun of yours on a temporary basis if a judge believes you are a danger to yourself or someone else based on how you answer the court's questions? Should you refuse to surrender your gun it is a criminal endeavor.

The laws that allow this to occur are called red flags, and under them, after a pre-determined time has passed your gun will be returned to you, unless a court hearing extends the confiscation period. Specifics of red flag laws, and the degrees to which courts impose them, vary from state to state.

-In Maryland, Vermont, Rhode Island, Washington, Oregon, and Colorado, red flag laws are also known as Extreme Risk Protection Orders, or ERPOs.

-They are called Extreme Risk Firearm Protection Orders, ERFPOs, in New Mexico.

-Florida calls red flag laws Risk Protection Orders or RPOs.

-Virginia calls them Emergency Substantive Risk Orders or ESROs.

-California knows them as Gun Violence Restraining Orders or GVROs.

-In Connecticut they are labeled Risk Warrants or RWs.

-In Indiana they are known as Proceedings for the Seizure and Retention of a Firearm.

Call them anything you so desire, at least 18 states, and Washington, D.C., have enacted some variety of red flag laws.

After a shooting at the Connecticut Lottery, that occurred on March 6, 1998, when Matthew Beck killed four of his supervisors, that state created the first red flag law.

In 2005, after police officer Jake Laird was gunned down by a mentally deranged man, Indiana established the second red flag law.

On May 23, 2014, in Isla Vista, California, Elliot Rodger killed six people. This act led to California enacting the first red flag law that allows family members to petition state courts to remove guns from persons deemed a threat. In addition, this law allows law enforcement officials to ask courts to order guns be removed from individuals for up to one year.

It took the 2018 Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida for most states, who have them, to create red flag laws.

In Florida, Vermont, and Rhode Island, the passage of ERPOs became associated with:

-media coverage using official policy names as opposed to calling the laws red flags

-gun violence to be portrayed as preventable

-references to ERPO policies in other states

for these three states, Florida, Vermont, and Rhode Island, to pass red flag laws.

New York became the first state with a red flag law that permits the police, family members, teachers, and school administrators to file court petitions for Extreme Risk Protection Orders. This occurred in 2019 as part of a broad gun control legislation.

Support him or not, on June 25, 2022 President Joe Biden signed the bipartisan Safer Communities Act. Among other things, this piece of legislation changed several US laws related to gun control. One of them authorizes state governments to obtain grants from the federal government if they enact and enforce red flag laws.
