the lion drawing scene is (thankfully) a very rare second-hand embarrassment moment in we are, so i couldn't bring myself to rewatch it before, but now that i did, i am honestly so obsessed with peem's whole deal in it. and i think it kind of shows what phumpeem's relationship will look like moving forward.

peem is simply... amused, when the kid straight up tells him that phum bribed him with chocolate to get him away from kluen. even just an episode ago, i am sure this would get a bitchy side eye and a snarky comment, but not anymore!

he looks at phum with this fascinating mix of smugness and satisfaction. he likes what he hears. and he agrees to help the kid. doesn't even ask "ok, but what do you actually want to draw?" or anything. we are drawing the lion, as per phum's chocolate bribe.

peem just casually puts his hand on phum's shoulder and smiles at him like "ok, we're doing this then". peem is more than glad to do whatever phum wants here, which is just such a fascinating juxtaposition because of... well, everything that's happened before.

peem's main mission the whole episode, this scene included, seems to be to make phum happy and comfortable. and he does a damn good job of it, as usual, because just look at phum's smile here 🥹

this illustrates that shift in their dynamic that happened thanks to peem accepting his feelings. while i wouldn't say that they were ever outright antagonistic towards each other, there were definitely quite a few biting comments from peem and comebacks from phum. and while i don't think that will go away entirely, especially because sarcasm is at least 25% of peem's personality, but peem will definitely indulge phum much more from this point on. in fact, i expect him to let a lot of phum's shenanigans slide in a way that would be unique to their relationship and would give his friends an excuse to mercilessly tease him about how in love he is.

Hmm, my favorite phumpeem fics? Also isn't it awesome that we already have like 90 phumpeem fics? They are all precious gifts.

Let me see. Honestly I've read most of them (still hadn't had time to read all but I'm getting there) but my personal favorites?

everything that @alan-apologist has written for phumpeem is straight up undiluted gold. All 10 works left me absolutely smitten. I told them I would frame their fics and put them in my library because I fell in love with their prose and the feelings they portray; so unflinchingly tender and real.

I especially recommend distractions because every scene is just tension-soaked and YOU WILL SCREAM i screamed you will scream (I'm pretty sure everyone already read from alan, because alan is a CLASSIC in this fandom. without alan we would be in a ditch somewhere for sure. thank you alan for all the wonderful fics you've shared with us. you are unparalleled, a gem, you are priceless and i would burn the world for you and your writing) Some other fics that made me soul melt into a puddle of glitter are: Gentlest of whispers in the coldest of nights by Misa (danmei_trash)

-> this was so sweet and fluffy, the comfort everyone needs to be honest. i would take like 20000 snuggling fics in this fandom, just straight up snuggling and hurt/comfort.

The prose in this fic made me gape like a fish, speechless and out of place and in utter awe most of all. I still have yet to comment properly my love for it, but I can't not rec it because it has such amazing characterization and the tension is top notch!! Also the comfort!!!!

PhumPeem When Phum isn't being an dick, he's pretty cool (<- yeah, I know it sounds silly, I could say that about anyone 😆). The funny thing is that he still persists in playing this stupid slave game, even though he should have noticed long ago that Peem reacts to him the strongest when he is honest and when he flirts with him naturally. I really like Phum's genuine flirting when he's being authentic in his seduction. When he said this:

Peem - and I - even rose from our seats for a moment 😮 Phum had some really good oneliners and a good rizz, so why does he insist on playing this stupid game???? Seriously, if it weren't for this, they might have been fucking dating a long time ago.

QToey The smoothest developing couple, their relationship is very pleasant and we just learned a lot more about it - and they turned out to be even more interesting because of it. Unfortunately, it was also decided that instead of Communication, there would be a Stupid Plan. Which will probably work, because this is the Law of the BL world. Again - I'm not complaining, because these are the Rules and it will probably all be very funny. But... why? How wonderful it would be if the guys supported Toey in his CONFESSION 🤡

As always, the best things were the friendships and relationships within the group. I absolutely love bringing flowers as congratulations, especially between guys, it was really nice. It's great how everyone supports each other and has healthy competition. I love all the moments when they talk to each other about their problems, no one pressures, when the person confiding in them struggles with what and how much they can say, also a complete lack of judgments and stupid comments. I love how much positivity there is in their conversations, including conversations using sticky notes 💖 They are all nice as friends, no one is mean. I love how they all collectively decided that their moments, big and important and small anc cute, totally deserved to be celebrated. The 'spilling the tea" about Toey's "secret feelings" scene was hilarious 😆

* Not really a singular quote but the scene in ep 8 where Fang talking about why he loves Tan is followed up by Peem saying very similar things about why he loves his friend group. One of my favorite things about this show is how it places platonic love and romantic love as equally important to each other and this is such a great example of the show doing that.

* Honestly just how chill and low stakes the entire show is. It was truly one of the highlights of my week for that because I could just watch it and relax and not have to really worry about anything.

Saddest Moment

* I think the Phumpeem storyline in ep 13. That whole situation was really sad especially with Phum not wanting to say anything about it to Peem because he didn’t want to burden him.

How do you feel about a we are au where Phum and Kluen end up good friends all of a sudden? After, like, a few weeks pass of Phum dating Peem.

Like, suddenly people are starting to see them together, hanging out and talking calmly, even smiling amusingly at each other— like they are having fun. And Phum’s friends are confused, because is this the Phum that would tense and look like he’s a minute away from hissing at Kluen everytime he appeared? Is this the Kluen that would smile dryly at Phum and mostly ignore him?

It could a fun idea, especially with scenes where maybe Toey or even Q think Kluen might be bothering Phum so they kind of try to fend him off, and Phum is like, “Guys, no need.” He’s just so confused at their defensive stances, and THEY are so confused with his easy-going energy.

Oh, imagine Fang’s reaction fuehdjrhejjd I wouldn’t even think. Or Beer’s.

Peem is especially the most confused. Kluen went from trying to seek him to seeking his boyfriend, who was so jealous of Kluen not a long time ago. Now they are spotted at Aunt Pui’s cafe??? Drinking their coffee together and having winded convos?? With hand gestures and all???

Like a 5+1 type of fic; five times Phum and Kluen were seen together and that one time they reveal they are actually friends.

I saw your post about writing a fic in Kluen’s pov and I thought: Yeah, sure, I personally made Kluen kind of a bad guy in my omegaverse fic, but just because it’s plot relevant for very important scenes. I don’t dislike the guy that much tbh.

And this idea seems fun. Like, Peem asking Phum about it after a while, kind of cautiously because he doesn’t know how to breach the subject (He doesn’t want to give Phum the impression that it’s a wrong thing, this new development with Kluen. It’s just shocking.)

And Phum just blinking at him, and then going, “Well, I was trying to make peace with him for you, because I know you guys get along. 🥺 But then I realized we actually have a lot in common. I guess it just happened.”

I just imagine Peem going oh, and then being so very proud that Phum did that. That he and also Kluen got over all the petty stuff and got to know each other for real, and now they are friends!!

When he tells Phum that, Phum makes a “☺️” face that quickly morphs into a smirk, and says, “He’s not that bad, yeah. He liked you, after all. No one who likes you is bad.”

Peem flicks his nose, cheeks redder, and mutters, “Shut up, you.”

But Phum can see the fondness in his face.

Cole, you have no idea how much I love the concept of Phum and Kluen being on good terms whether in a frenemies way or in a genuine friendship way!

Mainly because I think Phum deserves even more friends, and I believe Kluen deserves some good in his life after the confusion he went through at the volunteer camp. Plus, I am always down for more architect and engineering friendships.

Oh gods, everyone's reactions! I know Q and Toey would be concerned and defensive, we saw them when Kluen talked to Peem for three seconds at that art store and how Toey dashed off. I can see Fang getting defensive too for his little brother, even willing to punch Kluen if it comes down to it!

Now if you don't mind me pushing my BeerKluen agenda a little more I like to imagine one of Phum and Kluen's little meetings happening like this.

Beer: *leaves*

Kluen: All I'm saying is your best friend is hot.

Phum: Stop it!

Plus, you saw the energy Kluen carried in the show sometimes. I think Kluen and Phum should be petty and judgemental together instead of at each other.

Oh gods, Phum using the conversation with Peem as a chance to flirt, that made me so soft.

For the record, I don't think Kluen is a bad guy in your fic. Antagonistic? Yeah, but Q makes it clear to the audience Omega!Kluen needs to work through some stuff. I don't think Kluen is any different from canon, just returning Phum's (honestly kinda vile) energy a little more during the volunteer camp. I love Phum, I love that he can be an asshole, but he was an absolute ass during the volunteer camp arc.

We Are Ep.14: Part 1/3

Ep 14 ruined me, just so y'all know. I'm honestly scared for what the next episode will do to me. Anyways, I hope you enjoy!

Warning: long, long post 😊😅 (also divided into three parts this time because I wanted to screenshot the whole damn thing, but this is next best)

I did not expect Q to be the one to stand up for Phum, but I wasn't really surprised after the last ep. Previously, he'd be the first one to go up in arms, but he's starting to understand maybe everything isn't that straightforward, and despite his friends meddling in his own relationship, he wants to leave Peem alone.

Conclusion: he's a very good friend.

Of course. I should've known something like this would come up 😭

The crack post saga continues... =D

To be very honest though, for today's ep I will be getting serious more than usual, because it was quite significant in the flow of the plot, and also had moments of communication (this emotional constipation is what makes me yearn for Cherry Magic ah) that need to be studied a little closely.

HOWEVER, there will most definitely be crack because this group of friends is (unapologetically) batshit crazy and my brain refuses to not make comments at the most inappropriate times.

Peem: NO ONE SAW ME CUDDLING MY CRUSH TO SLEEP RIGHT?!

The sheer panic in his movements, oh my gods. It should not be as hilarious as it is 😭😂

To be very honest though, I would've panicked a bit in his place too, with friends like those, they'd never let him live it down

Peem is so cute 😭

Nothing to see here, just a guy getting shy over how his prince charming hom-ed him, and they kissed through his hand and cuddled all night hehe

See, in this camp, almost all of them are paired up in the sense that they usually stick to that person. Even Beer has MIck. But then comes wild card Kluen, who's hogging all of Peem's attention as much as he can and that leaves Phum. Alone.

I will be getting back to this running motif of Phum being alone and how it changes through the ep in later scenes as well

Also, after they went back, both Mick and Beer asked if he really was okay, which made me smile, because maybe, Phum isn't as alone as he thinks himself to be. There are people who care for him, who are concerned, who'll support him, and of course, he always has Fang, his beloved phi

Also, notice how the shot is taken in such a way that they're the only ones in the frame, and are also standing within one specific part of the wall? (Ignore Kluen's head and hands please). It reflects how they're in their own world with each other, especially Tan

The nosy peeps gang strikes again!

Jokes aside, the synchronised strides, the background music together set the perfect levels of suspense and comedy

Peem, smug: yes! that emotionally constipated dumbass is finally getting out of De Nile

Pun: wait... is my plan actually working? Ah, of course it is

Toey: head empty, no thoughts, but... DOES P'Q ACTUALLY LIKE ME OMG I'LL DIE

This scene was so, so beautiful and also quite important for both Q and Toey

Q knew what was up, more or less, but his confusion stemmed from his knowledge of Toey

"Why? Are you the only one who can tease me?" <- Q says this to tell Toey that he might have been angry, but now he understands that Toey didn't really have any bad intentions

Hugs always get bonus points from me, and this was pretty up there

Matt's (JJ) comedic timing is >>>>>>

Toey and Matt's friendship is also given weight in the series, and I'm happier for it.

This scene.

The apology. It is at this point that they're leaving all the past pain, grief and anger in the past

Q makes sure to tell Toey that yes, he may have loved Milk Frappe Boy, but now, in the present, all his love was for Toey, his lovable annoying mentee

This apology is not only to Toey, or Milk Frappe Boy, but to himself as well, because by causing pain to a person he loves twice, he'd caused himself pain too

The perfect sweet and romantic moment, but also with a teeny bit of teasing, because that's who they are

No joke, I gasped and nearly stopped breathing when he said this

Peem's reply, his soft but kind of hurt voice were just so painful to hear

But it's also this moment that Peem gives Phum a reality check – if he really didn't want to, he wouldn't be doing any of this, and Phum had no business trying to control his life

The conversation outside with Q was significant, but also a diluted reflection of Peem's earlier (in ep. 7) talk with Q

Even a few episodes earlier, Q would have gone ballistic on Phum for treating his bestie like this, but now, he asks Peem how he feels for Phum, tries to understand exactly what their relationship is

It was at this point that he knew, he fucked up

Beer is a godsent. I love him <3

I think Toey says "I asked hia Tan to blow it up for me."

Also, Tiw and his rubber duck floater from MSP anyone? 👀

And, we are back to square one where Phum is left alone again

As I'd said before, this a repeating motif throughout the series, but especially the last two episodes

This is how it has always been in Phum's life: he has been left behind. He does have Fang, but now even Fang has a boyfriend. And while this does not affect his brother's affection towards him in anyway, it does introduce a new strand of lonliness for Phum because 1. no matter what, he loves his brother a lot, and knows how much he loves Tan, so he definitely will try to stay out of their way at least sometimes and 2. he wants a boyfriend too. Further, he wants Peem, but there's a push and pull there, and after what he said, in his mind he had pretty much ruined his chances with his crush

This is the moment Phum starts to hope that maybe, just maybe, his feelings aren't as unrequited as he'd thought.

On the other hand, Peem is the one afraid here. What if the deal is all that's holding them together? What if without it, Phum will have no reason to be as close to him?

Peem, baby, for one, your groups are already merged, and secondly, this guy is head over heels for you, no way he'd stop following you like a lost puppy

(Apparently, it's not Peem's turn with the communal braincell this week 😭)

Here, Phum is technically alone, but he's surrounded with friends, and he's smiling

He isn't left behind here, for once, he's sitting there by choice (to shamelessly ogle his crush, but shh we don't talk about that) with the comforting knowledge that when/if he jumps in, he won't be left out, Kluen be damned

Once the floodgates of affection have been opened to Q, there's no going back <3

(Also, notice how Tan is already asleep on Fang's shoulder? 👀)

FINALLY

I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS MOMENT SINCE PEEM KICKED PHUM'S BALLS

Jokes apart, this moment is so, so beautiful. The kiss, the soft question "are you ready for my answer now?" (maybe Peem isn't, but hell if he denies this man his kissies).

Everything leading up to this point is also so very delightful

Phum helping them out in the cafe, despite probably having never worked a day in his life, discovering how Peem still kept the roses and finally, finally, the completed painting. This sight, above all, is what convinces Phum that Peem might have feelings for him after all; because which fool would lie about not having completed something that would free them from being a slave to someone? A fool in love, that's who

ALSO,

if they don't get together and have the fluffiest moments in the next ep, I swear to god, hands will be thrown *grumbles* they're already making me wait a whole damn week
