"it's weird that people are more focused on jimcurly than anya's story" the game is all about them. also, and i say this delicately, just because her story is resonant does not mean anya was handled well. i don't necessarily know how i'd have solved this issue myself (because i'm not a fucking game dev) but you can't sit there and tell me that wrong organ did an amazing job with her lol. it's not BAD but it's definitely not the best i've ever seen a female character treated in a narrative that has her sewn so deeply into it. you've kind of got to dig deep for a solid read on her, and even then it's very much up to interpretation because she isn't as fleshed out and isn't given the breathing room that jimmy, curly, and swansea get. i kind of feel the same way about daisuke that i do about anya. would have really liked to get to know those characters better.

the point of mouthwashing being a game about rape culture but having more PT scenes is that. jimmy forgets anya so much that she's not even in the picture. it's meta commentary. her ID is blocked out in one of those sequences, he doesn't even notice her body changing bc of pregnancy, and jimmy perceives himself getting a "happy ending". everything is obvious, but it's still trying to be shoved under the rug. that's the whole point.

I do get that part but to me that feels like the game is way more interested in exploring Jimmy's character and his self delusions more than the things he did and the societal forces that let him do it. Like to me it feels like the "crescendo" of the game is Swansea's monologue where he admits and accepts the kind of person he is as opposed to Jimmy, even if the reason this moment is presented with so much weight is because it really hits Jimmy hard unlike what he did to Anya that does not change the fact that the narrative itself i feel doesnt meaningfully look into the assault and how it was allowed to happen. Likewise the Curly segments to me feel more about his relationship to Jimmy and like they kind of frame the assault as a product of jimmy's "good nature" type personality allowing the cruelty of selfish manipulative people like Jimmy to fester, and that the dynamics of patriarchy and shit is something people project onto it because thats how it works in real life but i just dont see the game meaningfully engage with it, besides at most "men are oblivious to sexual violence and its' effects" but it still just feels like something that exists in service to the character study of Jimmy.

I guess i just wish we had way more Anya centric scenes like from how i saw people talk about it before i actually saw the game i genuinly thought anya is one of the POV characters. Like even from Curly or Jimmy's POV there could have been a scene where he tries to downplay what he did or to discredit her like it happens in real life. I however understand that representation of SA survivors in media, especially games is very lacking and i do think that Anya herself is very well depicted to give the game credit, so i do understand why people feel so positively about it
