Score: 4 out of 5
The Last Boy Scout is a wild, unwieldy, and immensely entertaining buddy-cop action flick cut from the same cloth as Lethal Weapon, not much of a surprise given that Shane Black wrote both movies. It's a movie that opens with an over-the-top song that would make for a legitimately good intro to an NFL broadcast, followed by a prologue of a football player (played by Billy Blanks in a cameo) shooting three members of the opposing team on the field before killing himself. The plot of the film is one that has only become sadly relevant in the years since 1991, especially as sports betting has been legalized and normalized as just a regular part of the professional sports landscape. It's got Bruce Willis at the height of his glory post-Die Hard playing a salty private eye, a young Damon Wayans in a role that, while more dramatic than anything on In Living Color, still supplies a lot of funny moments in his interactions with Willis, and director Tony Scott delivering a ton of exciting, spectacular action scenes. It's a shallow film that's mostly an excuse to have Willis and Wayans do their thing, but that alone is enough to make it practically obligatory viewing during football season.
Our protagonists are both disgraced men. Joe Hallenbeck is a private detective and former Secret Service agent who lost his last job after he punched out a senator he caught raping a woman. Jimmy Dix is a former star quarterback for the Los Angeles Stallions (because like hell the NFL would let them use real team names in a movie like this) who was fired and banned from the league as the chronic pain caused by his injuries on the field led to drug addiction and, from there, involvement in gambling. Together, They Fight Crime -- specifically by uncovering a gambling ring within the league that's scheming to get sports betting legalized in order to make it a more exciting experience for viewers, damn the consequences (gambling addiction, game-fixing), and is willing to kill in order to do it. It's the kind of suspicion of authority and rich fat cats that, almost as much as witty buddy-cop banter, I've noticed is something of a trend in Shane Black's screenplays, and while it's an altogether shallow treatment of sports betting that serves largely as background flavor, it's a story that predicted, decades before the rise of DraftKings and FanDuel, just how corrosive it would be to sports in general. (One change, though: I would've had the shadowy hitman in the opening threatening to kill the running back if he wins instead of loses, since throwing matches and point-shaving are how a lot of sports betting scandals go down in real life.)
The heart and soul of the film is Bruce Willis and Damon Wayans as Joe and Jimmy, both deeply troubled men who mean well but are otherwise plagued by all manner of demons. Joe's strong moral code gets him compared to a Boy Scout (hence the title), but it also ruined his career once it put him on a collision course with the powerful crooks who run everything, while Jimmy was chewed up and spit out by a corrupt sports league that wore down his body and then blamed him for the resulting drug addiction. They're both bitter, cynical assholes, but they have damn good reason to be. Willis was always a master of action movie snark, and his talent for such is on full display here as he has to put up with indignities from everyone around him, not least of all his estranged wife and his rebellious daughter. Wayans, meanwhile, gets the more serious role as a guy who's pissed at the world and jumped head-first into hedonism as his life fell apart, but one who's not all that different from Joe except that his vices aren't as socially acceptable as alcoholism. Two guys who look like polar opposites, especially in the contrast between Joe's blue-collar status and Jimmy's fame and fortune (highlighted in a great exchange involving Jimmy's $650 leather pants), but turn out to have a lot more in common than they think is ripe material for a buddy comedy, and Willis and Wayans have great buddy chemistry together. The supporting cast, too, is filled with character actors giving fun performances, whether it's Noble Willingham as the villainous team owner Marcone, Taylor Negron as the terrifying hitman Milo, a young Halle Berry as Jimmy's stripper girlfriend Corey, or a young Danielle Harris stealing the show as Joe's daughter Darian, feeling almost like a prototype for Angourie Rice's character in The Nice Guys in terms of being what happens if you gave Nancy Drew the mouth of a sailor. (And now I wanna see Shane Black write a Nancy Drew movie.)
When it comes to action, this is a Tony Scott movie, and if you know the first thing about Tony Scott, you know what you're getting: flashy action, glamorous vistas, and a lot of visual flair. This movie looks damn good in that peculiar '80s/early '90s studio way, a movie that knows exactly how big and dumb it is and leans right into it. The opening scene of an ill-fated running back at the end of his rope giving a whole new meaning to "pistol offense" sets the tone and lets you know what you're in for straight away, a film big on splashy visuals and moments designed to set a mood. The plot is fairly boilerplate and easy to figure out, existing largely to drive the action and the characters' banter and get you to the real reason this movie exists, which is the car chases, shootouts, and explosions that are all handled with aplomb. From start to finish, this movie is incredibly entertaining, the kind of flick that invites you to turn off your brain and have a great time watching a pair of very charismatic actors run around Los Angeles with guns.
The Bottom Line
The Last Boy Scout is a kick-ass, no-nonsense buddy action/comedy anchored by a pair of great lead performances, a witty script, and director Tony Scott doing what he does best. This was perfect viewing just before the Super Bowl, and honestly at any other time of year.

Been playing quite a bit- I've got pictures from the Dreamer round which I've got to edit into a post + pictures from the Burb round. I also need to pose the Dreamer + Burb families so I can post their initial posts with their aspirations / traits and all that jazz, but it may have to wait for the second round. Depends on my motivation to do so.
As of right now, I'm finishing up the Newbies (Joe+Jane) and dealing with their twins. I have pictures for them too. I had my first crash in three weeks playing the Newbies (not sure why it happened... but you know how this game is), which infuriates me because my dumbass forgot to save. Not only did I lose all my Newbie progress, but I lost an amazing story because Jane died in childbirth after giving birth to the twins... death full on showed up, and Joe plead for her life and managed to save her! It was going to be an amazing plot line (and would've been amazing if he'd lost his wife in childbirth, too- esp with twin babies!). But The Watcher decided otherwise. I made sure that Jane still had twins, but no dramatic deaths in the second go around.
I haven't tested it any further, but I'm also still dealing with my weird teen sneak-out glitch I mentioned in the Sims 2 Community where they disappear when trying to get into the car and never return, nor do they get busted by the cops. After they disappear they are still selectable: actions like run/walk here just immediately fall out of the queue, but trying to make them actually do something causes the game to give a "not in the world" error; resetting brings the teen that sneaked out back to the lot without issue, but they don't get any memory of having snuck out / being busted.
I've run HCDU to no avail- I have no conflicts effecting sneaking out; SiMidge hasn't given me any insight, and I can't use What Caused This? bc I have no error log- I don't get any error when they try and get in the vehicle, they just poof. I tried using What Caused This? On the "not in the world" error log, but it didn't show any possible conflicts or illuminate anything for me. 😔
It's happened with two-three teens, I want to say? (Dirk and Angela- and Dustin, too?). Not sure what's causing it, as my only 'sneak out' mod is Midge The Tree's Risky Sneak Out.... I have no other mods that effect that action, and I'm at a loss why it isn't working. I tried removing the Risky Sneak Out mod and the issue continued, which tells me it's something else (as well as the fact that two teens for sure, possibly three have been effected by it). When I try and yank the majority of my mods out and load into PV, I end up getting a bunch of GoSub errors that just continually pop up... likely because I've yanked out a mod that another mod needs, making the 50/50 method a bit of nightmare: it doesn't help that my dedicated "Mods" folder has something like ~1500 files/packages within it, with ~1450 of those packages divided into 16 separate folders (some mods are divided up by creator; others I are divided by their type: my romance mods have their own folder, given as it's a mish-mash ACR, romantic standards, adultsgosteady, surrogacy / sperm donors, Saline's abortion mod, death in childbirth, woohoo teens amongst others- all named and alphabetized to ensure they load in the right order without conflict).
My other folders mainly divide up mods by creator; others are divvied up to ensure they load at the end of the mod folder- my TS3 traits and TS3 trait mods load near the end of my mod folder, along with my various supernatural mods (which are likewise divided up inside the initial supernatural folder based on the supernatural life state). My downloads in general include various folders and sub folders based on various categories and is entirely too much... but it works for me/my sanity. Previously I just threw everything into my download folders with no rhyme or reason, which was even worse. Over organization over no organization FTW.
Anyways, I may have to try loading into one of the hoods I /haven't/ played with no mods at all and see if I can hammer down the issue. It has to be mod related, though I suppose given this silly game it could be anything at all. I hate yanking out certain stuff like my TS3 traits, since I'll be forced to reassign them (learned that the hard way...) but if I try in a hood I don't play/use, my PV should be fine so long as I don't load it up until I have everything back in.
Either way, that's what's going on. Uh, if you've ever ran into this issue with teens sneaking out... reply to this or shoot me a message? I'd love to figure it out without pulling my hair out.

For the Love of the Game [deancas, 1.5k, T]
Summary:
“A tense moment on the field between good friends. Novak has taken Dean Winchester’s legs out from under him - did he get the ball? What do you think, Joe? Yellow card?”
“Looks like he just about got the ball to me. Fair challenge. Though judging by his reaction, it looks like Winchester doesn’t agree."
(Dean and Cas over the course of three years as players of opposing soccer teams.)
Author’s notes: written in the 90 minutes it took to watch a soccer game at 1am. I’m a sucker for athlete Dean and Cas.
Read on ao3 or
“Of course, Winchester and Novak have known each other since they were kids. Best friends, these two, off the pitch. On the pitch, however, as I’m sure we’ll see today, is a different story.”
The loss is a difficult one to take; it means that Cas and his team are now on the bottom half of the league table, a position they haven’t been in for well over a decade.
After the final whistle, Dean jogs to Cas, whose hands are clutching at his hair in disbelief. Dean puts his hands around Cas’s face, forcing Cas to look at him. “You okay?”
Cas closes his eyes and grits his teeth. He’s probably thinking about the goal Dean had scored just 10 minutes before the final whistle, and how he’d been unable to prevent it. “I will be.”
Dean sighs and pulls Cas in for a rough hug. “I’ll tell mom you’re coming over this weekend.”
“How long is she in town?”
“Just a week,” Dean says. “She’ll want to see you.”
Cas shoves him away and scrubs his face with both hands. “Just let me know.”
++
“Apparently they stay at each other’s bachelor pads over holidays.”
It’s been coming for years, but when Cas pulls Dean in for a kiss on Christmas, it’s still a surprise. Dean takes a few moments to fully register what’s happening, that Cas is really finally kissing him, but once it sinks in, he is definitely on board with the developments, and he pushes Cas against the wall and starts to thoroughly enjoy himself.
A century later, Cas pulls away. “This is unwise,” he says breathlessly.
Dean’s dizzy with Cas’s touch. He touches Cas’s face because he can’t stand not touching him. “You started it,” he says, all he can think of to say.
Cas frowns a little bit, but his nostrils flare with how hard he’s breathing. “How I got here, kissing an absolute idiot, I have no idea.”
“You’ve also got a hand up my shirt,” Dean supplies unhelpfully, “if you wanted to get around to removing that.”
Cas arches an eyebrow, and Dean likes it. “Do you want me to remove it?” Cas asks, leaning in again, dragging his hand down to Dean’s waistband at an agonizingly slow pace.
Dean’s hopeless - absolutely done for. “Definitely not.”
“Good,” Cas growls, and Dean likes that a lot.
++
“Their rivalry seems to fuel their friendship - or is it the other way around?”
“Just to be clear, this doesn’t mean I’m going to take it easy on you this Saturday,”
Dean’s lounging, one hand behind his head, watching the progress of Cas’s lips down his chest with lidded eyes. “Wouldn’t love you if you did.”
There’s a long pause. Cas lifts his eyes to watch Dean’s expression, but it doesn’t waver. The only sign of nerves is in the way his throat moves. Cas acknowledges the word with a small smile and a lingering kiss to the center of Dean’s chest. Later, he’ll murmur the word over and over and over into Dean’s hair, his hands on Dean’s ass, encouraging him, and Dean will swell and break with it.
++
“A tense moment between good friends. Novak has taken Dean Winchester’s legs out from under him - did he get the ball? What do you think, Joe? Yellow card?”
“Looks like he just about got the ball to me. Fair challenge. Though it looks like Winchester doesn’t seem to agree.”
“Could have broken my leg, Cas,” Dean spits.
Cas is adjusting his shin pads. He looks up at Dean. “Hardly - it was a fair challenge.”
Dean gets up right in his face when Cas straightens. Cas has seen this face in the throes of pleasure and he knows he’ll see it again; he lifts his chin and smirks, knowing how much Dean will hate it.
“Also, ref begs to differ,” Cas says, winking. “No foul.”
“Jesus, you’re a cocky bastard.”
“And you’re a shit striker.”
“You shouldn’t even be on the field with a challenge like that.”
Cas is getting back into position, walking backwards so he can throw one last remark at Dean: “You shouldn’t even be on the field with skills like that.”
Dean’s face turns red. “What’d you just say?”
In the end the ref has to separate them; no cards are shown, but neither of them talk to the other for two weeks.
It goes without saying that the eventual make-up sex is fantastic.
++
“It’s Novak’s last game for the Angels - he’ll be officially retired at the end of these 90 minutes, aged 35. Fitting that his greatest rival and friend should be on the pitch with him, albeit playing for the opposition.”
Cas is subbed at 87 minutes for his last ovation from the home crowd. They adore him as he adores them, and Dean knows this last walk off the field has got to be an emotionally harrowing moment for Cas.
Dean hopes his fans won’t give him too much shit for what he does next: he pulls Cas in for a rough hug as Cas walks to the touchline to be subbed. He doesn’t look Cas in the eye, and shoves him away before either of them do something stupid like cry.
++
“Back for the second half of the first game of the season, and Dean Winchester’s 37th minute goal is the only thing separating the two sides.
As most know, Winchester announced over the break that he and his best friend and former Angels player Cas Novak have been dating. There’s been quite a bit of backlash, mostly from fans who think their relationship has swayed their performances over the years, but both Winchester’s manager and Novak’s former manager have laughed off that particular suggestion. What do you think, Greg?”
“No, they’ve both been consummate professionals, haven’t they, over the years? Obviously good friends - well, we know why now - but it never stopped either of them from giving it their all on the pitch.”
“They both loved the game too much to let anything affect it.”
It’s not fun, being the only player in the league out of the closet. His teammates don’t treat him any differently, but Dean sometimes feels like he’s slowly being frozen out.
“It’s because you didn’t say anything to us.”
“What the hell was I supposed to say, Benny? ‘I’m fucking a guy, and it’s Cas Novak’?”
Benny sighs. “I don’t know, Dean. They just want to know their captain’s being honest with them. Sleeping with the opposition is pretty shady, alright?”
Dean hangs his head. He understands. He’s still pissed, still frustrated, but he makes up his mind. He slams his locker to get everyone’s attention. “Just figured you all would want to know,” he says loudly, a little angrily, “I’m asking Cas to marry me tonight.”
Stunned silence. Dean stares them all down, daring any of them to say anything. If he has to knock someone out for talking shit about Cas, he swears he’ll do it and damn the consequences.
But nothing happens. Ash grins, scratching his neck. “We’re invited to the wedding, right?”
The laughter that follows breaks the ice. Dean tries and fails to stop himself from crying when they all come forward to congratulate him.
++
“Dean Winchester made history by marrying Cas Novak over the break. It’s a great moment in sport, but he’s opened up in a recent interview regarding the homophobic abuse he and his husband have received.”
“A shame that. The sport needs to do more to support their LGBTQ+ players.”
“Agreed. But despite all that, Winchester says he’s proud to lead the way for others to come out in his wake. Plus, his husband is here to watch his first game of the season, so that must make up for it somewhat.”
“He’s probably not happy to see Novak in Angel colors, though!”
“The rivalry lives on!”
“Who wants to bet that it’ll be a tense atmosphere in the Novak-Winchester home tonight?”
Cas is solemn as he greets Dean at the door of their home, but Dean scowls at him anyway. “Don’t think I didn’t see you cheering when they scored.”
Cas looks a little abashed. “They’re my friends, Dean.”
“I’m your husband.”
Cas hides his smile in Dean’s neck. “And I love you.” He wraps his arms around Dean so he can’t wriggle away. “But I also love my team. My fans would have rioted if I’d shown up in your jersey.”
Dean doesn’t bother arguing. He played for the full 90, and the emotional toll of the loss is just now sinking in. “I’m ready to go to bed,” he says, his voice raw.
“Alright,” Cas says, kissing Dean on the cheek. “I’ll be there soon.”
Dean is half asleep when Cas walks in wearing Dean’s jersey and a pair of sweatpants - then Dean’s suddenly wide-awake and half-hard.
Cas gets under the covers and leans over Dean, smelling like shampoo and toothpaste. “Good night,” he says cheerfully.
Dean stares at his husband, marveling at the audacity. Finally, he says, “You’re such a jackass,” but diminishes the effect by pulling Cas in roughly by the front of the shirt and kissing him, much to Cas’s delight.

Hi! I don't know if you've done this pairing yet, and if u have just disregard this ask, but can I have BoRhap boys x pisces? Thank u sm in advance!
Hello there! I have recently written for Joe and also for Ben, so now here are our dear remaining boys, Rami and Gwil! And you are very welcome in advance!
Rami:
(Taurus and Pisces)
He loves your enchanting eyes and gentle nature! One time there was a little dog that got lost and you cooed at the thing, kept it at your home, and then returned it to its the owner and he knew you had the soul of a saint.
So he gets super competitive if any other dudes dhow interest! If he notices any of the other guys flirt with you, say it’s Joe, talking about how nice you look tonight, he will get competitive and up his game before anyone could steal you!
He finally is able to win you over and you both go to Candlelit bistros
You both also enjoy going to movies and holds you tight if you cry.
The wilder part of the city park is a fun place too. Sometimes some odd type of animal, like a fox, will be seen there and you both gawk over it. You also enjoy sniffing flowers together and comparing scents/
Rami loves to set Candles and play music when you come over for dinner to always set the right mood.
You both could spend a lazy day at the beach on towels, reading magazines, and napping under umbrellas together.
Since you are both artistic, home is full of things you have found and collected! You may have to consider finding space for them soon!
Gwil:
His guileless and sunny spirit is so refreshing! Gwilym can always make you smile until your face hurts and you feel oddly tired because you’ve been laughing so hard.
He is a bridge for going out and making friends: esp. in the arts and culture world! Parties don’t seem so scary with Gwil by your side, and neither do people!
You show him how to see a place for the first time. Let’s say he is in some theatre where you both are gonna watch a play. You look up and notice the little curves in the ceiling and the shapes you see in the boxes. He loves that you add lift to even “old” things.
You both collect snapshots and memorable anecdotes! Every meeting with other people is full of stories like Gwil would say “here’s the time Y/N almost had a shoe thrown at her in the tube- it’s okay! It’s actually funny!”
You are both humanitarian and work to help others! Whenever Gwil makes a video supporting some charity, you film it, nodding happily
You are both also very playful! Gwil may look like the most mature, traditional gentleman there is but even he could not resist going into your pillow fort to watch some shows (even though his long legs dangled out)
You both champion the underdog! If some sports team or someone on some reality show isn’t doing well or isn’t big, you both watch religiously cheering as they win and then smiling and hugging as he kisses the side of your face as they do.
You both paint together often. Spending mornings and evenings with delicate watercolors and brushes, with the pink and orange sky, next to someone you love, you both couldn’t ask for more.

HEY! I just finished the video game your turn to die (I highly recommend you play it if you're into J horror) BUT I HAVE A LOT OF THOUGHTS. SPOILERS FOR THE FULL GAME AHEAD!!! BE WARNED!!
Ok 1. FUCK Shin. FUCK THAT BASTARD. Fandom seems to love him but he manipulated Kanna to the point of WANTING TO KILL HERSELF. Kanna is CANONICALLY 13. He preyed on her weakness of losing her sister. I killed him without remorse in my playthrough.
I don't get the big hype over joe. He was fine and I get he meant the world to Sara but I found him kinda annoying. His death scene gutted me though. I almost vomited and had to take a full 24h away from the game.
The save feature. Honestly I would have loved an auto-save feature. Esp in the death attractions. Manual saving all the time was a bit tedious. So many times I lost hours of progress because I got so wrapped up in the story I forgot to save.
On a lighter note, I loved how intricate the story was. The art was beautiful yet simple. The characterizations (for the most part) made sense. I really dug it

she and james both agreed to side w/ king clockwork, but when the king actually mentioned it alora gave james a Look™ and he was mad as fuck. he’s still kinda mad as fuck
she decided to be pals w/ a main antagonist (gluto) and didn’t tell us until days after it happened that he’d talked to her in his dreams
alora was told to not tell anyone abt the repugnant’s secret organisation. she immediately spilled the info to everyone
she was told to not mention the organisation’s meeting or anything that went on there. she immediately spilled the info to the motley and literally sent us a photo of the repugnant on his throne speaking to everyone
she was told to keep a specific person away from castle repugnant. she let him waltz right up to the castle w/ everyone else and seemed confused when they said he couldn’t go in
she broke into somewhere w/ gluto and then left him in a room full of very important documents b/c she somehow didn’t think taking him there to begin w/ wouldn’t backfire
the last thing james said to her was literally “i take it back, you’re a stupid shit idiot and i hate you”
4. Your current campaign.random sideplots get to go here this time! most of them are james or ollie b/c we interact the most w/ npcs
james and galant romance sideplot and the sheer amount of wild scenes that have happened as a result (the date, le fway showing up, addy’s dating advice, “ollie, you’re pretty ignorant”, “so you killed your boyfriend”)
ash coaches a baseball team
ollie tries to handle pink drugs, fails to provide any evidence that he’s not the cause
alora helps the repugnant, always immediately regrets it b/c he’s a little bastard man
the gang trying to figure out what’s going on w/ the repugnant’s amnesia
james accidentally making friends w/ a black spiral dancer and being heavily in denial abt why cylus probably got so attached to begin w/ (hint: it’s the anarchy and the horrid rebellious streak)
james nearly sides w/ the main antagonist b/c he’s got the right idea but his methods are fucked
ollie goes to fairy prison, makes friends w/ a vampire and some old sidhe, is currently in the middle of trying to break out
5. Favorite NPC.unfortunately it might be cylus? cylus is like 6 levels of batshit at any given moment and was introduced to us as a nameless dangerous prisoner that galant was holding for some sort of treaty? and james and addy were told to not listen to him for any reason and to not let him free. and of course james let him free. he shifted into a giant 9ft-ish tall war form and then james realised he was really in over his head. upside: he went back in his cell afterwards. downside: he got attached to james. also downside: james didn’t actually get warned that he was a dangerous war criminal until after all this went downthen cylus literally showed up in james’ dream to tell him a few things and warn him that he was planning to escape? and there was nothing james could do b/c “i heard it in a dream” isn’t exactly a solid claim esp when he doesn’t have any sort of future sight. and of course cylus broke outthen james ran into him in the dreaming and james was losing his mind the entire time b/c cylus is an absolute freak and james was stuck walking w/ him for like 2 hours. then like an hour after they parted ways james got flung into a ditch on the edge of town (in the real world) and cylus carried an unconscious james like a sack of potatoes into waffle house and just let him sleep on the table for a bit. then like 3 days later cylus broke into his apartment and made him breakfast.and then james got flung out into the middle of nowhere again for reasons and cylus was there and james had the choice of dealing w/ cylus or being horribly lost in the woods so he chose the first one. and he nearly got caught in the middle of a big werewolf fight that cylus orchestrated. and also nearly got caught in some extremely violent family drama.throughout all of this cylus is acting like he’s james’ best friend and last time they spoke cylus really wanted to do buddy cop stuff! they’re pals! totally! and james wants absolutely none of it but he can’t explode on him b/c he’s a skinny little twink and cylus could snap him like a twig w/ no effort
to summarise:
6. Favorite death (monster, player character, NPC, etc).we actually haven’t had many deaths! the only ones i can think of in game that aren’t random monsters were the old bastard and nor nan, which. were both interesting in their own ways, but nor nan’s was mostly tragic and i don’t wanna get feelsy so i’ll just use the old bastard here.to set the scene: we’re at a fancy party. ash and marike (an npc, he’s an unseelie lord and overall a hell of a time) are off on their own trying to catch chimerical creatures that stole their weapons. marike curbstomps one, meanwhile the other has climbed up onto a curtain rod. the place has really high ceilings. his solution? pick up ash and toss him at the creature. ollie and the old bastard (who owns the house) walk in just as this is happening, and the old bastard sees ash tear down the curtain rod for no damn reason. of course he demands answers. ash tries to bullshit a story abt an entire family of raccoons they were trying to chase outthen the old bastard gets shot in the head. ollie and marike are splattered w/ blood. he hits the ground, ash makes a joke abt “telling his wife the bad news”then he notices his wife is the one who just shot him
7. Your favorite downtime activity.the entire arc’s taken place over the course of 15 days in-game, including downtime. we haven’t had any specific downtime activities per say, but the best moment we’ve had during downtime was when ollie broke into james’ apartment and now he refuses to let ollie anywhere near his apartment complex
8. Your favorite fight/encounter.i’ll stick to generally hostile meetings for this since we’ve only a small handful of solid fights? but it’s either “james nearly dies” or “ollie is a good distraction”
to set the scene for the first one: the hospital chimerically burnt down, so the motley decided to investigate and sneaked in as janitors. james ended up alone down in the morgue after finding a body covered in chimerical burns getting wheeled down there. he checks it out, takes a couple photos on his phone. then the door opens.james starts cleaning and stuff, but it turns out the person who came in (gluto!) was also a changeling and very easily noticed the fact that he’s got really noticeable pointy ears in his fae mien. and of course he starts threatening james. and after he pulls out a massive scythe. james sends everyone an sos but they all get stuck in the elevator. so james pulls a gun in a fucking hospital. and he gets called on the bluff but before he can put it away, in bursts galantgalant starts kicking a bit of ass, and then gluto ripped the (already weak from the fire) chimerical ceiling down on top of them! galant did some shit to lift the rubble off them with little to no effort and james was kinda like “oh no he’s hot” for a second before galant kicked a bit more ass and gluto ran like hell!then he next night galant literally died for james (it’s okay, he got better) and confessed that james is his true love and just. man.
for the second one: there’s 3 assassins after galant. he fucked off to lovescreek in order to avoid them, but when ollie found him, one of the assassins had found him! so ollie joins the fray against this troll (who are like 8′ at the shortest), and after a short bit gluto joined in as well to distract ollie from the main fight! so what did ollie do? start loudly singing “i’ve got a lovely bunch of coconuts” for a chicanery bunk to turn galant invisible. and of course both assassins turned on him and he ended up having to run like hell but when he lost them galant reappeared and was like “well that was fun”
9. Your favorite thing about D&D tabletop RPGs.i’ll keep it real, i’ve disliked every dnd system i’ve experimented w/ and i’m not a fan of most fantasy so it’s unlikely i’ll every actually play a proper dnd game but god… tabletop stuff is just so much fun? mostly the story and the fact that joe is absolutely godly
10. Your favorite enemy and the enemy you hate the most.cylus may be my fav npc but my fav antagonist is definitely king clockwork? ic my very first encounter with him led into him and james talking about their beliefs and ideals for like 2 hours straight and when he was getting ready to leave james was ecstatic that he’d finally met someone who fully understood his mindset. then the bomb dropped that he was the boss of the other antagonists and james was hit w/ this utter horror. and then james considered siding w/ him for a long ass time before eventually trying to kill him to put a stop to everything. yeah. yeahmy fav enemy/antagonist is absolutely gluto b/c he’s creepy as shit. during anyone’s first encounter w/ him i was completely solo and it was horribly unsettling and i simultaneously love and despise him
11. How often do you play and how often would you ideally like to play?we meet once a week! what game we run varies but recently it’s been changeling every week since we’re still waiting on player characters to start hunter the reckoning lmao
12. Your in game inside jokes/memes/catchphrases and where they came from.we have a bunch of them but uhhhhh random ones off the top of my head
“it’s always sunny in coolville” b/c i realised early on that we were going to be up to a lot of dumb shenanigans and it was easy to make it’s always sunny title cards based on each session
#saveduke b/c there was a whole thing at one point where we had to keep him from getting kidnapped. spun off from that are #SaveDukeFromHimself, #SaveGalantFromJamesStupidity and #SaveDukeAgain?
“appearance 4, captivating” b/c dom said it regularly for multiple sessions until his character dirty danced with a hot guy at a party, after which he decided that alora was a lesbian
“does [insert art] let me throw fireballs?” b/c dom wanting to throw fireballs down the street is a running joke but also he unironically asked if primal 2 would let him throw fireballs
“james got norted” b/c he nearly joined the main antagonist, which devolved into “[insert random character] got norted” at the most random times
james and galant touching tips b/c at one point while they were casually talking ollie just started going 👉👈 in the background and james got really mad and flustered abt it so everyone started doing it
“ultra instinct ash” b/c he’s our shaggy and also has done like fuck all nothing productive in game so him going fucking super saiyan to kill the final boss is hilarious
“i got two hands!” b/c people regularly ask why ollie dual wields broadwords
#OllieOllieOxenFREE b/c ollie got himself sent to fairy jail
“i did [stupid thing], can i buy [half related skill]?” like “i attempted murder, can i get chronos 2?” or “i was an assassin in a past life, can i get melee 3?”
“people, let me tell you bout my best friend!” abt james and cylus b/c boy does james have bad taste in friends
14. Introduce any other parties you have played in or DM-ed.uhhh exalted is the only one i’ve been a part of that’s been solidly active, but we’ve got characters for scion for when 2e drops, and i’ve got characters set up for chaos reigns when joe starts the next arc b/c i didn’t wanna peter parker myself into the finale. i don’t remember the rest of the scion crew well enough but i love them
15. Do you have snacks during game times?we almost always grab food on the way there and eat before we properly start
16. Do you play online or in person? Which do you prefer?in person! it’s the only way i’ve ever done it but i’m 🙏 that maricopa gets running online b/c……….. vampire good………..
17. What are some house rules that your group has?the big house rule for changeling is “ run things fast and loose.” joe knows the characters well and what’s on their sheets so we don’t do too much dice rolling except for arts. joe also takes some artistic liberties w/ some things, mainly wayfare and the inanimae, b/c his main goal is to make a good story and he’s sure as fuck succeeding
18. Does your party keep any pets?do addy and duke count? they’re a white rabbit and a beagle. beyond that, addy’s got pet rabbits, and ollie might be feeding a stray cat
19. Do you or your party have any dice superstitions?not really. dom claims that dice rollers hate him but he also keeps using his dice roller rather than pulling out physical dice
20. How did you get into D&D? How long have you been playing?i got into tabletop years ago when harley introduced me to the dystopia rising larp and i decided to check out the tabletop version for more lore. the current tabletop system sucks but onyx path is handling 2e and i’m so hyped for it. at some point a bit later i played vampire the masquerade bloodlines, and it got me into the world of darkness and well. i still love it.as for how long i’ve been playing, uh. around a year i think? i forget when we started exalted the borderlands-ing. i’d been sitting in on the group for around a year before that, mostly getting a feel for things and also we were trying to figure out a good jumping in point for me and i wish i could’ve started earlier but it let me mesh w/ everyone a bit easier and also have an outsider’s viewpoint when it came to certain issues
21. Have you ever regretted something your character has done?oh absolutely, “i fucked up” is the semi-catchphrase for james for a reason. he theoretically has common sense b/c i usually say “this is gonna be stupid/bad” either ic or ooc before i do some shit and well. yeah it doesn’t usually go well but we have fun
23. Do you use premade modules or original campaigns?i think the only thing not original we’ve run since i moved up is strange aeons and maybe a coc scenario? everything else has been original campaigns
24. How much planning/preparation do you do for a game?not too much, really. i sometimes plan out a little of what i’m going to do, but half the time i never actually have the chance b/c stuff moves in a different direction than i was expecting. however i also write the summaries of the shit we’ve gotten up to every session so there’s that
25. What have your players done that you never could have planned for?i’m not a dm but i’m answering this for joe b/c he flat-out admitted that he couldn’t predict what was going to happen in at least half of changeling b/c we’re an unpredictable mess but everything’s come together to make a really interesting finale
30. Are your players diplomatic or murder hobos?answering this one too even tho it’s still a dm question b/c the players themselves are half diplomatic (me, mal, joe depending on game) and half murder hobos (fredy, dom). dom’s been going more diplomatic w/ alora but also she’s so bad at it and it’s wonderful
31. What is your favorite class? Favorite race?classes aren’t a thing in changeling but out of the kiths ouuuuuuuugh i love sidhe a lot. like they’re honestly cool as hell and i fucking love the house lore? i’ll also do houses b/c fuck it, my fav house is beaumayn b/c they have no chill and every bit of house lore they have is brutal as hell
32. What role do you like to play the most? (Tank/healer/etc?)just looking at my trends of characters i’ve got currently (re)built, i have:- the face (james, rex, val)- support (henri, caoimhe, river kinda?)- the antisocial son of a bitch (nomi, neil)- “i’m going to wreck anything you point me at” (hound, oliver, elliot but not by his own choice)- pure chaos (nora, glitch mage)gemma is kinda hard to put into any category b/c she’s babey?
33. How do you write your backstory, or do you even write a backstory?it depends on the character? some characters don’t have backstories (caoimhe, nora), some i’ve fleshed out heavily (james). it’s usually assembled from a bunch of random snippets written over the course of however long. some of it’s heavily thought out, other parts are just kinda arbitrary. i also tend to run some more important chunks past joe or mal just to see how they feel? james being from house gwydion was originally arbitrary and wasn’t really gonna matter (joe himself said it would just be a bit of flavour) then he figured out how to fold it into plot and i’m thriving b/c le fway is wild
34. Do you tend pick weapons/spells for being useful or for flavor?flavour, though use is also a bonus? artswise james currently has naming/chronos/contract, which are all useful in their own ways but also reflect his past lives / him as a person
35. How much roleplay do you like to do?yes. if i’m not able to embrace the character i’m playing is it really that fun? is it really? no b/c when that happens to this group we get the dumbed down version of chaos reigns and i go fucking batshit b/c of the fact that combat takes way too long
#anon#ask to tag#i love changeling so much and i will absolutely infodump abt it whenever i have the chance#that sweet hyperfocus mood

Party Games & Social Distancing
Hey folks! Some bad news: it looks like it is currently illegal to play my game. Due to possibly the worst tragedy of the United States in our lifetimes, for the next month, friends cannot meet face to face. We’re all sheltering in place until May 15th in Los Angeles at least, and it’s Day 36 of working from home already for me. So, I’m sorry I missed my last bi-weekly blogpost! Priority has been surviving a pandemic. What does that mean for the game, though? Huge pivots to launch - no more April/May launch window. But a month in we now have a much more real business plan, a remonetization plan, marketing personas, likely a final marketing person, and are looking into new finances for the bigger development time created by a delayed launch. So, while different, the revised launch might still work out.
Who doesn’t love free samples? Anti-marketing folks that’s who.
Marketing Knowledge Revised
Just a refinement on last post - provide value to your audience. “Market” by giving out free samplers of how good your content is - ie. how much value it provides. That’s it! That’s all there is to it! Everybody loves visiting Trader Joe’s just for the quality samples they have in every store. Nintendo Directs are fun to watch. Apple talks are cool. Do you know how good the demo was for the first BioShock?
That’s it! That’s all there is to it! You just have to understand who your audience is, what they like, and provide samples of that while showing that there’s so much more of this behind that purchase.
Lots of excel time in hopes of lots of these graphs later.
Estimating Sales
A big part of the pivot was refining the business model, and that was based largely on more accurate assessments of potential sales (like, what you could actually make back financially when you release).
To estimate sales: find a game like yours, a lot of games if you can. Figure out what degree of quality your game will likely be in general (eg. fast/cheap vs slow/fancy) - and who is a competitor at that level. How much did they make? Now do your burn down chart, calculate hours, calculate costs of contractors and materials, revise based on your last estimated-to-actual ratio, and bam! What would it cost to make the game you’re planning? Would the reasonably estimated sales match that number? How comfortably? Publishers like a 3 to 1 profit ratio, but that can be lower if they trust you more.
And then it’s a gamble, basically every time if anything changes in the development plan. The bigger the changes, the more of a gamble. So, I’ve not deal with numbers at this size and this kind of risk taking before - it’s scary! But it’s worth it, and our numbers line up right now to justify a full marketing plan with revised monetization to match our marketing personas.
GenZ is said to want authentic, instant, and valuable experiences - esp in video.
Marketing Personas
GenZ needs authenticity, and craves connection. Friends here say they’ve already done their own mental health work - they just want an easier way to know if they can share that vulnerability safely with others. That’s it! That’s all you need for a persona is to quantify a demographic, and what their needs are. These are friends of mine, so I want to keep in mind both sides of that - but the demographic concept, as impersonal as it is, can help get this to more people even if I don’t know them. And it might be able to help them too.
So GenZ is our primary persona now - esp folks who love indie games. But others include Millenial gamer bros who crave vulnerability but don’t have the words for it, and church folks (mostly GenZ) who already know how to be vulnerable but love it and will embrace a good excuse for it - as long as they aren’t paying for a mobile game. And with that comes the need for a more free-friendly monetization redesign.
Above: a photo of me all this month, basically. Metaphorically. Conceptually.
WiFi Support
This will be the hardest call of the pandemic. WiFi is possible but laborious - it’s extensive in the structure and support needed to run the game remotely over video chat platforms. But it is possible, and could greatly expand sales if done right. So why not do it? Right now it’s not in the budget - but Jackbox sessions are up, Bunch is being used more, and HouseParty is basically getting into lawsuits from how popular it is now. Online gaming is the lifeblood of pandemic socializing, so this might be worth investing in after all. But it’s complex since that’s like adding a new foundation to the project.
With banks it’s been like this - except with social distancing.
Loans to Expand Development
Everybody needs loans right now and the economy is really rough - which is both bad for sales and good for low interest loans, but bad for the clogged phone lines to get them. Since April and May were the original launch window, this makes everything complicated for talking about whether there was economic disruption of Wild Honesty. The game had not launched, so it’s technically not provable that sales were lost, but it’s basically impossible to launch right now either way - and that was the original plan.
So, I am figuring it out. The original launch window is now delayed, but it might lead to a stronger launch long term too. Meaning, it’s complicated. I hope we can still reach a wide audience at whatever budget and timeline this ends up in at the end of the day. For now - we will just use this time to launch even higher quality to a wider audience, and hope for the best.
I did learn though that these loans can cover a payment to oneself to sustain development as long as that is eventually repaid, whether through profits or my responsibility to repay it myself. All of that sounds fine. It’s a bigger gamble, but even more of an opportunity to learn and grow too. And that’s deeply valuable in itself too.
Passing the phone back and forth in lockdown is not recommended!
In Short
This pandemic is likely the worst thing to happen in the United States since WWII. Irresponsibility from federal government figures was reckless and has led to the deaths of tens of thousands of innocent Americans already. That can never be undone - so my hardships are nothing compared to that. I am lucky to have a roof over my head and work, credit, and savings that let me stay at home. Isolation may be draining and demoralizing (I’ve been working at about 60% capacity most of this month) but it teaches a lot about oneself and good habits. I have a lot less social media in my life from all this too.
But, after great grief, life for most of us will go on, and I want this game to come out and help people someday too. This year will be somber, start to finish. Even out of quarantine, fear will still be in the air and large public gatherings won’t be back for many months. But most of us will survive and get through this together. But it will be hard.
For now: Thank you for reading these posts. I look forward to sharing more good news soon on releasing an emotionally difficult game in a year that itself is already quite hard. And I hope we get to all play it together in person later this year.

I came across Bruce Lipton years ago when he released the book ‘The Biology of Belief’. I am fascinated with the subconscious mind and how our thoughts create our reality. This guy just merges science with spirituality, quite like a lot of other high profile science guys (Gregg Braden, Dr Joe Dispenza etc) who have realised the power of our heart.
A little bit about him –
Bruce H. Lipton, Ph.D., a pioneer in the new biology, is an internationally recognized leader in bridging science and spirit. A cell biologist by training, Bruce was on the faculty of the University of Wisconsin’s School of Medicine and later performed groundbreaking stem-cell research at Stanford University. He is the best-selling author of The Biology of Belief and received the 2009 prestigious Goi Peace Award (Japan) in honor of his scientific contribution to world harmony. Website: www.brucelipton.com
He has discovered that our subconscious is running the show and the beliefs have been installed from the age of 0-7. We can reprogramme our mind so don’t freak out, this is where mindfulness comes in, heart focused breathing, practicing compassion for ourselves and others, feeling gratitude for every little thing and much more. We all want to live happier, fearless, purposeful lives and Bruce is here to share with us what he has learned from his own experiences and from his scientific research.
This was one of my favourite more recent interview with Bruce Lipton so please watch this as you will be drawn into his joy, passion, and complete enthusiasm for this subject.
My notes from Bruce Lipton videos and what I find useful in developing a happier healthier life.
BE MINDFUL??We need to find out what our programming is? from 0-7. You may wonder how you can tell what these programmes are as you cant remember such a young age. You simply look at your life now and you can tell what sort of programming you had installed. What works and what doesn’t. Look at the programme that you run like – Programme of weakness, programme of limitation, programme of victim, my programme that I need to suffer in order to help others..or programmes that I am unlucky in love or programmes I loose at all games.
Then you look at how you change these programmes.
The conscious mind is creative, you can read a book and gain knowledge, or learn to drive a car or paint a picture. The subconscious mind is a recorder and plays back just like a recorder. That means it learns in a different ways. The first 7 years your brain is working at a low level frequency called Theta which is like hypnosis so a child up until 7 is recording everyone’s behaviour from those around us. But after the age of 7 we learn from repeating and practicing. Like how do we learn the times tables at school, well we repeat and repeat until it sinks into our subconscious mind.
New age sort of people say FAKE IT TILL YOU MAKE IT… because repetition forms the habit. So just fake it till you make it every day that programming is installed. Repeat Repeat Repeat
Rapid relief change – Energy Psychology? Super Learning – what exactly is it? Like speed reading you can reprogramme your mind a lot quicker. Woweee..changing our belief in 5 minutes..this is just out of this world amazing and I shall list the many at the bottom of blog.
We cant talk to the subconscious mind as there is no one in there, look at it just like a recorder, a mechanism so we cant just say what we are going to change.
The body is like a robot and the brain is the controller but the brain has a programme and the brain has a spirit. When it runs from the spirit we can create heaven on earth. When it runs from the programme we create whatever the hell the programme says it is.
Look at the world, we have been separated for thousands of years by people competing against each other and look how it is turning out, it is causing our own extinction. We are all one and we need to live like this with compassion and living from our heart
The heart reads energy, Quantum Physics says we are all energy. IF my heart says wow I would love that – that means the energy says that from the heart. How do you feel about this? Energy is a feeling, Your heart will give you three answers – I don’t like that, I don’t wanna do that or I don’t much care. Always do the rational thinking but the last decision must come from the heart – if the feeling says you are gonna gain more energy then go for it but if your heart says no then go away from it The answer is your heart and is the reading of energy. Thinking followed by feeling.
Heart Math breathing – This is a tool I have and love. Energy can come together and pair up and make more energy, called good vibes and bad vibes. We have been so programmed to think of the material world instead of the vibrational world. Quantum physics is the most valid science on earth. The field, the energy is the most important aspect of our lives. The heart, Love is the energy, the highest form of energy.
Okay so I said I would list the Energy healing modalities that Bruce has posted on his page and I am amazed at how many there are. I deal in energy healing and practice quite a few of these but I cannot wait to investigate some of the others.
Belief Change and Energy Psychology Modalities
Psych-K
PSYCH-K is a set of principles and processes designed to change subconscious beliefs that limit the expression of your full potential as a divine being having a human experience. From Bruce Lipton: “I teach with Rob Williams the orginator of PSYCH-K. This is the modality that I use personally and with which I am most familiar.”
Core Health
Why don’t they look for what is right with me?” Core Health is a non-cultural, non-religious expansion of our inborn core of health — what is right in us! Advancing from studying disease to understanding Health, this innovative process moves beyond treating symptoms to Truly Freeing each individual by internal energetic decisions. Core Health leaps to the core of pure health, removing energy distortions for free flow of positive energy. The highly-effective DTQ Process (Deeply, Thoroughly, Quickly) dynamically achieves precise, experienced, permanent re-activation of a person’s innate healthy core.
Body Talk Systems
BodyTalk is an astonishingly simple and effective form of therapy that allows the body’s energy systems to be re-synchronized so that they can operate as nature intended. Each system, cell and atom is in constant communication with each other at all times. Through exposure to the stresses of day-to-day life, these lines of communication become compromised, which then leads to a decline in physical, emotional and/or mental health. Reconnecting these lines of communication then enables the body’s mechanisms to function at optimal levels, thus preventing disease and rapidly accelerating the healing process. BodyTalk can be used as a stand-alone system to treat many health problems, or seamlessly integrated into any health care system to increase its effectiveness and promote faster healing.
Emotional Freedom Technique
Based on impressive new discoveries regarding the body’s subtle energies, Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) has been proven successful in thousands of clinical cases. It applies to just about every emotional, health and performance issue you can name and it often works where nothing else will.
Resonance Repattering
Quantum Change made easy. The Resonance Repatterning System – Resonance Repatterning System is an energy process which can help you identify and clear the patterns of energy underlying any issue, problem or pain you are experiencing.
Inner Resonance Technologies
IRT has 7 brief steps that facilitate you in making certain inner agreements that set the conditions to allow your own automatic system to rebalance and harmonize itself physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually, transforming all parts of your life.
Instant Emotional Healing
Instant Emotional Healing: Acupressure for the Emotions, by Peter T. Lambrou, Ph.D. and George J. Pratt, Ph.D. Drs. Pratt and Lambrou have created a book that explains the foundations of a new branch of therapy call energy psychology.
Neurolink’s Neurological Integration System
NIS is based upon the neurophysiology principle that the brain governs optimum function of all the body systems. Prioritized treatment protocols are used to assess the function of all the body’s systems, and all the factors that have or could translate themselves to symptoms.Neurolink’s protocols leverage the brain’s profound ability to restore the body and all its systems to full potential.
Silva Ultramind System
The Silva UltraMind Seminar is the pinnacle of the work of Jose Silva, developed in the late 90s – just shortly before Mr. Silva passed away in 1999. The Silva UltraMind System trains you to use your mind to such a powerful extent that within a few days you are able to demonstrate ESP and influence healing in others. We also teach you how to identify your mission in life and to use the power of your creative mind, to propel you toward this goal.
The Healing Codes
Now, you can discover how to: * Super Charge your immune system. * Help your body heal itself. * Turn on your natural healing systems to heal your pain, stress, fear, depression and disease. * Turn your body’s cells from Protect Mode to Growth Mode. In growth mode, your body’s cells can protect you from or heal almost anything.
