ever since i watched that critique vid of 2077 so long ago like it does bring up such a great point about how participating in an execution for profit/commercial exploitation and encouraging a clearly delusional person to do so despite him clearly being unwell would truly sincerely change a person not to mention adding on all this blasphemous religious flavor on top of it all. like for a merc that so blindly or apathetically kills for profit i think participating in something far more intimate and hands on would like the video said fundamentally change someones views on participating in such things (hired killing) even if they operated under a basic 'well they deserve it'/'self-defense'.

interesting to me more so to have this be a revelatory moment too because the only system of justice that night city operates on is revenge/eye for an eye and i think its a good wonder to have a character actively question that and possibly even try to leave that cycle or be an arbiter of it due to personal reasons. for a system/society/culture that operates on 'deserving' what would it take for someone to want to move beyond that/away from it. and then even more fun questions of is not participating in such a system anymore meaningful? does the personal choice to no longer want someones life or death to be up to you cause anything to change? even when its clear that someone else will fill the vacuum? is it enough to say/do 'this culture of revenge sucks so im gonna hit da bricks from it' esp fun to examine in such a natural-end-of-capitalism world where violence to enact change has become almost 'necessary'? not that theyd necessarily try to in response organize and develop strategies for a justice that doesnt require death in response, but like at least be one to finally wonder if something else can exist in the place of revenge in this stratified world of extremes

and even more so to have all this happen when johnny is a FIRM beleiver in that people really do deserve death and that one is righteous and always justified in doling that out, including enacting such violence for justice on a MASSIVE scale. would being stuck with someone who had such a profound experience and decided to just stop the death with herself change him? actually cause him to question such ideas? even if its begrudgingly so? even if he thinks its the stupidest most pathetic way to do things?

of course this is all undermined by generic videogame ludonarrative yadda yadda cause we need faceless goons to kill for combat always supercedes such conflict exploration but hey at least in oc lala land one can dream.

and its so funny that in the game proper v does do something the game portrays as feeling extremely WRONG for v (and johnny) but then you snap back into videogame land to kill swaths of nameless 3d models who were all probably forced into violent crime in order to survive without thought

hi jojo! i went to go play so viddy games but i’m back! you may indeed ask!! when it comes to preference it’s probably a close tie? i do enjoy some marvel characters more than some dc characters ( see magneto, kurt , kitty, emma , deadpool, the punisher, daredevil ect. ) you ask such nice questions let’s see if i can give you succinct answers !!

top five favorite comic book characters, in no particular order.

1. magneto / erik : this man tops a lot of people’s lists i’m sure, however i really do love his core character traits and what he stood for & stands for. mainstream media demonizes erik because in my eyes they don’t want the public to realize that activism and toppling current oppressive world orders IS POSSIBLE with effort and willingness of people ( think about the inception that was the hunger games trilogy movies, how they strategically butchered it in a way where it’s core message was skewed and used as marketing , eerily similar to messages in the books ) . originally erik survived the holocaust and i like the message his original jewish creators wanted to send when making him. he is someone who never wants to see his people or any people violently oppressed and killed & movies don’t quite capture it too well ( besides some of the older original x-men movies actually ) but i resonate with him. through love and compassion and a firm hand against oppressors, uniting with people to help formulate and continue to form a better world for everyone is always worth it to me. what people misunderstand about him? portrayals have made him cruel & i think that in ways he is, he’s cold and weirdly detached but he’s also driven by love , intense love & i really wish people would remember that.

2. spider man / peter parker : once again , jewish , poor , for the people , down to earth. peter parker is a light hearted character despite who and what he’s always up against ( i’m not looking at the mcu , i’m looking a little bit at TASM and the original spider man movies. i’m peeking at them ) but i do just love how he doesn’t let the world beat him down, though it’s interesting to look at points in his comics where he IS taken to his limits. he makes me feel safe, i know he’s not real. i’d leave cool things out on my fire escape for him, he has so much genuine kindness and heart, i really adore this character and a lot of his variations ( see spider man 2099 / miles morales / spider gwen / esp 2099 ……. mmm miguel ANYWAYS ) also like parallels with venom too , love venom but imma put him in with pete bc i haven’t read too many of his comics. the mcu has misunderstood this dude a whole lot, but people tend to make him a bit too serious lately, and i enjoy diving into that side of him, but i think peter is genuinely really good at seeing the good in people / seeing ways their lives could be better if nudged onto the right path. also he doesn’t like billionaires.

3. the punisher / frank castle : i’m not a fan of a lot of his cartoon appearances and portrayals to be a cold hearted military man , as he hates cops and the military & the gov. i like his netflix show , i really enjoyed that actually. frank castle lost everyone he cares about and the media surrounding him usually never focuses on how his code makes solid differences / protects people ( except the show. god. i’m emotional. ) anyways i have a thing for characters who are emotionally destroyed but still do good bc that’s the only fucked up way they feel they can still do good. EVERYONE THINKS HES PRO COP OR PRO MILITARY OR ANTI LGBT? HES NOT? HES WITH THE LGBTS , THE GAYS , THE MINORITIES! HES NOT A RACIST EITHER! HE HATES RACISTS HE’LL MURDER RACISTS!

4. comic book scarlett witch / wanda maximoff : romani representation that’s mostly done nicely , i really actually relate to this character a lot , and find catharsis in her. she suffers greatly, probably too much, but she works her way through it, she’s powerful and kind and vengeful and angry and beautiful. she’s wise and confident and loses that and regains it, she reminds me of the wheel of fortune card in my deck, constantly embodying things that should have killed her. once again, i know she isn’t real, but i do relate to her and love to see her happy and winning, she’s brave and strong and i hate her MCU portrayal , truly, but i love her comic book self! god ok. people misunderstand her a lot, esp mcu …….she’s not ‘ i’m tired of being good >:) i wanna be a bag guy now! she’s more ‘ i loved very deeply and i cling to that because i cannot imagine who i will be if i acknowledge that what i loved is gone and i cannot get it back ‘ vs ‘ i can remake myself over and over if i need to , i contain all i need ‘

5. night crawler / kurt wagner: god. ok. his design fucks so severely i want that man to give me a hug , pick me up and spin me around , ok? did you jot that down? we got that? i know he smells nice , i know he does. his smile is so sweet to me , very playful. i enjoy how hard he works to be a good person, how he doesn’t take short cuts or let his past dictate him ( idk what the fuck was going on with his movie portrayal in those early x men movies i watched as a kid ) but in some of the animated shows and def the comics i have fallen hard for this man , i know he’s not real. i know. shh. but yes! the way he has quips too, idk i really enjoy him overcoming odds and projected bullshit he has to face, you and i just 🤝 gotta shake hands here ok we are shaking hands. hm. people think he’s naive or an idiot, they misunderstand his hope and warmth, it comes from a place of understanding hatred and choosing to rise above that, so.

( bonus!! ) 6. lanterns: i dont have a favorite lantern ( i’m lying it’s razor , hal & guy. ) but i love all my mutuals who make the lanterns more interesting than anything dc has done recently. i miss GLTAS , i miss when hal wasn’t reduced to a total dickhead , i love the headcanons that GLS are weirdly ageless and have wonky fashion sense , i love all my mutuals art and stuff i just love it. i loe space adventures i love fucked up shit going on out there in the big old galaxy. i love razor bc of GLTAS and his development, i miss him and IO and i hope he’s doing ok. but yes! this subgroup of heroes ( i also miss when dc didn’t make them a weird military thing and i love reminding people it’s an honor based volunteer service only given to those as highest honor. lol ) omg ppl stop saying they’re the military shut the fuck up theyre gays in space!

danny phantom, season 3, episodes 7-13 thoughts! cannot believe im finishing this series so fast. ...cannot believe it ended like that...uh. one of the weirdest finales to a show I think I've seen, it really stood out against the rest of the series, and not in a good way, in my opinion. MONEY WAS NEVER HIS LIKE, MAIN GOAL. yeah obv he likes money and is materialistic and values his Rich Life, but hes got billions, the end goal? 1. getting maddie (and or danny as his son, but to me he always treated that as secondary) 2. ruining jack. this feels like they wanted to say 'oh he just wants POWER' which is. HMM?? OKAY?? obv he /does/ want power (usually over certain ppl, tho), but seeing him try to get it like this FELT WEIRD SOMEHOW. weird like the ep where he tried and failed to take over various historical civilizations, because like,, how is that realistically going to do anything for him?? just, being in that time forever and never seeing maddie aka Goal #1 again?? HELLO??? this was like that, but worse

-this was such a weird ending to an entire show. why did season 3 only have 13 episodes?? why did it feel so weirdly paced?? WHY WAS THE ENDING LIKE THAT. I think. I am going to pretend I did not see that. fucked up, dudes. I'm like...hm. I shouldn't have watched that because now I'm mad. valerie sweetie im SO sorry you shouldve been more present. it felt like..if they knew this season was going to be short, and the last season, they should've spent more time wrapping up EVERYONE'S plot lines for the entire season. imagine how cool it wouldve been if every single ep of season 3 was working towards something, a big, nice wrap up at the end, with nothing feeling TOO rushed because they'd been heading towards the End for the whole season....

I will probably end up writing a follow up full series thoughts post. In a couple of days so I can sit with my thoughts. BUT. overall, I really liked the show! (ignoring the finale and some of the moments that aged pretty poorly...) it was charming and a fun concept and very fun to watch in general :) and I am pretending the finale didnt happen <3 and I’m gonna dive RIGHT into the dp tags and mix fanart and posts in my queue, very excited to run and look at that 🏃🏻 (and, of course, make more fanart myself hehe >:3)

Wait when did makoto go like "I didn't care enough" in regards to kamoshida? Last I recall the stuff before the 3rd palace was pushing pretty hard into the idea that officials like the principal strictly kept makoto into doing what they wanted rather than what she wanted

And, I know you didn’t ask for it, but mini rant under the cut explaining why this is a big sack of rotten bananas (aka the messiness of her arc) (also “what Makoto wanted” what Makoto wanted was not to investigate the PT, it was a burden to her to even look into them, hell it seemed like everything was a burden to her, with the exception of that one little blurb in Royal after Shiho’s jump it’s all an inconvenience. You talk to her in the Library? She’s like don’t bother me. Has to investigate the PT? Not worth my time, also I’ll take my frustration out on the PT. Now I have to solve a mob thing? Well I’ll just force the PT to do all the leg work, but I’ll also be very sad when they call me useless for doing nothing but making a lead run away :( Her way or the high way, can’t be bother. A bit of a user....at least towards the PT, ironically she won’t tell her student council guys what’s going on.....but I’m not sure what that says about her character since she is def fine dumping work onto us....just more contradictory info I guess. I mean I’m down for a haughty and/or manipulative person not wanting to help others and learns as the game goes on but they didn’t do that....also not saying the wrote a haughty/manipulative person....but there is some groundwork laid there)

Anyway actual rant:

Makoto point planks says she knew and didn’t do anything. And what’s worse it tries to change the events of Anne and why she feels guilty about Shiho to put her on the same level as Makoto. Anne didn’t know Shiho was being harassed by Kamo (or about his other stuff iirc), the reason is because Anne misread Shiho’s signs of distress (she thought it was about her place on the team). So Anne was worried about fixing that because she thought that was the issue, not the other thing. And she can feel guilty, she’s the victim, and if she wants to feel guilty she can.

But what isn’t ok is freaking Makoto coming up and blaming Anne (who, as the victim, had every right ask Makoto, who was stalking her, if she knew about the abuse via a rumor she was hearing, and Makoto decided to be defensive and blame a victim, probably cause she didn’t want to confront the shitty thing she did), you don’t get to do that Makoto. 1) You know Anne’s situation because Kamo confessed the whole damn thing to the whole school, 2) You had enough suspicion that you could’ve done something but didn’t, 3) Not only were you in the perfect position to do something (you aren’t really someone he can target or was on his radar due to not being associated with the team, but you also have the influence of other teachers thinking highly of you AND you have a sister who is a VERY SPECIAL LAWYER). 4) Anne didn’t know any of this BUT YOU DID (so you aren’t the same, no where near the same, and it’s bullshit the game tries to act like it is). 

Listen game, it’s not that hard to show Makoto was a good person but we had the wrong idea. But you didn’t do that. You wrote a shitty person who gets away with stuff and is rewarded. You could’ve written Makoto as knowing about the abuse AND TRYING TO FIX IT BUT BEING ROADBLOCKED (which goes in line with your bs narrative about her listening to adults, what adults Makoto? Your sister who is asking reasonable demands from you[aka do well in school, and not even like restricting her freedom or being a “tiger mom”]? Or the principal who is asking such a cartoonish thing from you that you actually just get to say no to at the end, but regardless if this game had an integrity it wouldn’t have gone with the principal narrative to begin with cause it was just stupid)

Or they could’ve just, you know, had her not known, and her and Anne could’ve bonded over being blind (tho Anne was blind cause she was too close to Shiho and misread signals Makoto could’ve been something else, maybe too busy studying or something to notice the people around her?). 

But here’s the thing, the game ALSO wants her to regain her justice she lost sight of (which we don’t know what that was, or what it is now), which means she.....probably needs to have known. Which means they need to fix what we have so it doesn’t come off as “yeah you stalked us, belittled us, got us involved in a MOB-90% of all these issues were because of your EGO to boot-and now you give a quick, disingenuous, even gaslight-y apology (seriously she’s like “I’m sorry so can we just DROP IT???” no bitch we had to put up with you now you get to put up with us), but yeah you can join our team you like...are TOTALLY LIKE US!” Which she isn’t?????

If I had to rewrite Makoto (usually I just remove her but if I HAD to keep her >.>), I’d make her believe that all authority figures are correct (I mean she grew up with a cop, not completely out there imo). She doesn’t go on some BS goose chase cause of the principal, but because she doesn’t believe Kamo could do anything wrong and wants to take down the PT because yadda yadda her own justice (maybe she thinks they caused more chaos than good?). She believes the PT made him lie, or something. Over the course of the game (I’d have her join later like Haru time instead btw), she slowly sees her viewpoint of the world crumble, and have the confront the idea of siding with the PT. To which she would have to give a genuine apology (that she starts, not have to make you know the victim of her tantrums have to sit them down for a sincere apology). It’s an arc, not wishy washy (tho all of P5 is wishy washy so eh), she takes responsibility, and it’d be handled with a lot more time and grace that it needed to have. 

But yeah as for the adult thing, I hate it. There’s like 2 adults, Sae is literally not THE WORST person out there. Not perfect but not who you should be holding up as an antagonist for Mako’s arc (esp since they plan on making her an accomplice later, which ends up downplaying a lot of Sae’s negative aspects that could’ve flourished but instead she’s just.....watered down? And not treated with the respect she should have). And then we have the principal and his whole thing is juuuuuust bullshit, like do you want to deconstruct that the Student Council President isn’t all powerful (which some people argue she’s a deconstruction of Mitsuru, I mean she is at least Mitsuru is competent and if anything gets by her it’s cause she wasn’t aware of it but always makes sure to take responsibility and resolve it)? Then don’t give her bs chores like this. And don’t make it so she can just boss Kawakami around (”I can’t believe I’m doing errands for a student....” or something to that effect). She’s either a normal prez (and at most she can gain favor from teachers to use to her advantage but nothing else within school limits), or she’s OP like Mitsuru/other anime prezs. You can’t have a middle ground, pick one logic otherwise everything falls apart. Since P5 tries to be “realistic” (aka stuff in the real world is grounded, not supernatural stuff) the principal should’ve never had that idea cause it’s not realistic. It’s also poor I can’t really name a single teacher outside the Principal (and obvie Kamo....actually maybe lil Kamo and his friend? So I guess I should say “any teacher outside a CoOp” instead) that knew of Kamoshida and didn’t help. Sadayo didn’t know, and the english teacher I think acts like a batman so she either didn’t know and wants to make sure it never happens again, or she feels guilty and is trying to save face (I’mma assume it’s the former cause I haven’t found anything contradicting that and it seems more likely). There’s also the fact Mako literally admits that she didn’t do anything cause she didn’t care, so regardless of what I said about the teachers, they weren’t blocking her cause she didn’t even approach them. 

So uhhhh yeah, mini analysis of why there’s issues tied to Mako’s arc and why it’s a mess. 8U I don’t get why Royal even doubled down on the narrative that Mako was pushed around or something, when we 1) still never really see it realistically (principal is really the only one that does it, and as stupid as the whole idea is, it’s also not good to you know....have only one real problem when like......there’s implied to be many? “All these adults held me down” Who Makoto? Humpty Dumpty??????, 2) it completely ignores her own faults as well as inconsistencies they also created. You just pull on this little thread a little and it unravels with like 1000 questions (which is basically all of P5 but still.....just cause it’s a norm of P5, doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be pointed out. XP)

(btw I loooove how the entire game is always tries it’s damndest to devalue Kamo’s arc, just at any point it’ll try to contradict it. I’m being sarcastic there. I hate it. Esp since it’s the best arc, by which I mean it’s the most solidly/competently written, like it establishes itself well, no real contradictions, just solid, nothing really to fix, can still improve if they want but nothing broke. Next....I think would be the last dungeon in Royal....but I do have some issues with it hence why I rank Kamo just above it).

There were things i really liked and things i really didnt like

for example, the swapping dimensions and the changing art styles were very neat! i liked some more than others, like the rubber hose style for sal could of been a bit different in my opinion, @shinysnek did an edit/drawing and tweeked the tiniest thing and made the design alot more palatable 

and the minigames were… really repetitive and sometimes very confusing ? esp todds door, the plus’s were almost impossible to notice! slightly darker grey against light grey just makes it look like part of the door :/ and the 3d bits were a bit hard to control during the later part of the game

and the writing,, it felt super rushed as if he just wanted to saddle alot of the damage onto native americans??? that completely came out of the blue, like he couldnt come up with some sort of cop out for why the cult is doing what they do

and still with the weird queer baiting with larry? like he made them brothers but is still pushing it, if steve wanted sal’s love interest to be ash why not have moments like ‘that’ with her instead?? it feels very uncomfortable in my opinion especially with him saying he was still,,comfortable with the ship which REALLY rubs me the wrong way

and the ending,,, dont even,, TALK to me about the ending, it honestly made me so upset?? like, and the epilogue to go with it,,, like okay cool the worlds still fucked over and todds still corrupt and larrys just gone??? for no real reason???????? hes just gone :| okay 

gnome larry was funny tho, didnt really explain why Larry got super old while megan stayed a 7 year old, i suppose you can explain it with like when ghosts arent bound to a place they can wither and age? i dunno whatever chapter 5 sucked and it felt like steve just didnt want to do it anymore

my turn! alright im going to be typing my opinion from a fellow writer and programmer’s POV.

the beginning of the game kinda drops you in which was a little surprising, considering the other chapters were very rich with exposition which is one of the things i loved about SF. 

It had this way of bringing you in even though you didnt know what the heck was going on. It made you want to learn more and it felt like you were THERE with sal. 

But this opening with just… ash tossed in fell a little… flat. yeah… graveyard… lets toss in some epitaphs as a reminder of who died, ok… cool. 

next lets talk a little about the general story. im not going to lie, this felt like a TOTALLY different game to me and I played them all in succession again to remind myself of the other chapters. 

It was so… plain. It didnt have the eerie-ness of the bologna incident, it didnt have the intriguing mystery of the first chapter where it started you off in the hospital as a little boy with your face hidden, it didnt have that heart wrenching storyline of the 4th chapter.

it was just…. “i need to end this game quick”. 

there was just a unique feeling to the other chapters, something that made you feel gritty and floaty, like you were a dirty teenager hunting for ghosts.

Saddling the natives on the unexplained reason as well… BIG YIKES, steve. the silent hill movies pulled this crap too, and we can all see how flat that fell in comparison to the actual silent hill 3 game. 

There are so so many things you could do instead of that tired (and lets face it) racist stereotype. 

I thought it was going to have a deeper meaning, like… people have had cults for decades that didnt have to do with the natives. hell, he could have even kept with the weird alien theme he was going for. calling an ancient alien creature? that would be pretty badass.

The ending… fell disappointingly flat. ok… everyones dead? so you tortured sal and his pals for literally no reason? granted i didnt press the c4 button so im not sure how that path goes, but i doubt its any more satisfying. 

not to mention the constant queerbaiting that, at this point, makes me so uncomfortable.

yes we get it, steve. you think adopted brothers can fuck, and yeah, theres nothing TECHNICALLY wrong with it (and im using technically by definition, its still wrong in my eyes), but come on. can any of you tell me that wouldnt make you intensely uncomfortable? Its not ok what he did imo and i know its his characters, but steve? either dont make them brothers or stop fucking pushing their romantic interactions.

oh and lets talk about the only other canonly gay couple with any screen time! he killed the black one.

he didnt even get much of a redemption tbh, yeah he was secretly helping them, but… wow. toss him in the hole! we dont want to write gays!!! (unless we’re taunting people to get them to play under the guise of “lgbt representation”)

also larrys a gnome and is just… gone forever. just say you hate larry, steve. you didnt have to do him so dirty man.

now then, lets talk about the gameplay.

i was playing with an xbox controller so im going to be from that POV.

the controls were… ok for the most part. the 3d part was a bit hard to see and i got stuck trying to walk past the trees a lot. 

to be honest, the 3d is my only complaint with controls. the mini game later on where youre 3d and shooting tentacles was very hard to control, half the time it wouldnt move fast enough and the other half it would zip past the diagonals. i DID beat it, but i am a very good gamer. to other people who might not play games constantly, might have a bit more trouble and get frustrated.

the puzzles were bland and repetitive. im a horror puzzle game writer and i would NEVER do something this blasphemous in a horror style game. it removes you from the game to think “wow…. THIS puzzle AGAIN?”. it makes you feel like its insulting your intelligence, like “oh here you go you fucking baby, move the shape to match the other shape”

and one of the only other puzzles was that fucking door number puzzle. he made the pluses almost impossible to see for starts, and i KNOW other people had trouble with this. Wanna know how to fix this? make the pluses easier to see and make it so the input pad can only except the number of numbers that the code it. dont make me sit there like a jackass, typing in every conceivable way to order the numbers given.

all in all though, the gameplay was plain, the storyline was bland, the puzzles were mediocre and the only reason to play the chapter is to close up the story and to find out what happened to sal and his mom (which tbh was the only good part because i was actually surprised and excited that it was that that injured him)

i hope in steves next projects he actually figures out how to write an ending and doesnt rush it (and please keep in mind this was rushed even though he had multiple people helping him)

anyways, so they are two best buddos and one of them is really cute with his wife, i wanna say josh but it might actually be tyler.. i think wife’s name starts with a j, like jenna or jess, and theyre like really cute #relationship #goals, like best friends in love, so that is real cool and nice! (and i also know tyler has 3 younger sibs, but u are also the only reason i know this so i wont go into that )

and idk their type of music, like.. i wanna say alternative, but that is a pretty easy generalization lol. i know one song was a vid of one of them strumming a ukulele and singing on his ownsome to increasingly bigger groups, i think i reblogged it like 500 years ago without knowing who it was, but i have since remembered/recognized it, (also i think it was a cover of i cant help falling in love with u)

and their fandom is relatively smol i think, like 1d really is an anomaly compared to the rest of bandom, in terms of the amount/variety of fanworks created, even for bands i thought were really famous and stuffs it’s like way different? (i was curiously googling panic! and fob’s fandoms the other night actually and 21p popped up a few times as like a crossover thing with them, which i thought was interesting, tho i dont know how much theyre actually linked irl?)

anyways, being a smaller fandom is probos not a bad thing tho! i imagine its got a bit more cozier, intimate feel and in an ideal world there’d be an awful lot less drama too, so i hope that is the case.

i also think that 21p fanworks are less likely taken for granted bc theyre more rare, like i feel like fans are more likely to leave comments than jsut a like or a kudos, yunno? bc they really appreciate every bit they get :)

psych centers around unofficial (im p sure? cos gus also worked at a pharmaceutical company too) detectives and life long (as shown by lots of flashbacks) bffs shawn and gus, the latter of whom shawn always comes up with super ridiculous fake names for when theyre interviewing witnesses and whatnot (his name is actually burton guster tho), but that was one of the running gags

psych is a fairly light crime show, like theres murder mysteries and whatnot, but theres also lots of good banter between the leads (esp shawn n gus) and jokes and

and their main dealio is that shawn is a psychic, even tho he actually is Not, hes just extremely observant and (sometimes) smart, and gus is in on the con too, and they work for the police station together, and theres also a cop named lassy except thats not rlly his name its a nickname but i dont rmr his actual one, and his partner julia/jules, who was in a very slow build romance with shawn over the like.. 5? 7? seasons it had, it was a good big amount, & i think it had a very good build and character development n stuff bc of that, i get the feeling it was lucky enough to have a natura run of things, im pretty sure it wasnt cancelled when it ended,like it got to do everything it wanted with the storylines n stuff before it decided to wrap up? and there was a lot of different stuff in the episodes, they werent all just typical solving mystery stuffs

but fandom wise again, i think itd be quite small in terms of fanworks produced about it? it doesnt rlly seem like the type of show to have much fanfiction written about, altho im willing to bet that shawn and gus, like any pairing involving a black guy and a white guy, dont get shipped together hardly at all despite all their screen time and chemistry together. (and yes ik julia/shawn canon, but thats never stopped shippers before, so.) actually i bet shawn and lassie are one of the bigger pairings in fanfic, tho again, i dont think psych would have much in the way of that somehow?

anyways, i rmr it was goofy but enjoyable, and there were lots of episodes that made homages to other things, actually i think im gonna go try2 find an ep to watch rn tbhh, except Not on netflix anymore i guess !

Listed: Entrance

Entrance used to be a band with a heavy sound, a heavy touring schedule, and a string of records on Tiger Style, Tee Pee, Ecstatic Peace, and Fat Possum. Nowadays Entrance is one guy, singer-songwriter Guy Blakeslee, with an LP called Book Of Changes whose name attests to the transformation it documents. Out are the throbbing bass and chugging riffs; nowadays Blakeslee’s rococo studio concoctions owe more to Roy Orbison and Gene Pitney. Change is also the constant in the diverse list he has given to Dusted.

1)“Smoke Signals” by Phoebe Bridgers 

I discovered this song a couple months ago when I heard it on the radio. I actually had to pull over and listen to it, it was a strange night and the song hit a nerve. I waited to hear who it was by and immediately listened to it again on my phone. Since then I’ve listened to it countless times.  Something about it really gets under my skin. The lyrics are simple and spare but they tell a complex story in the imagination. I really resonate with how it references the feeling of this time, the year 2016 when Lemmy and Bowie died and the appropriate was/is sentiment “fuck the cops”..  I too have often wanted to “check out and hide from life”..   I had to stop obsessing over the song, it was affecting me too much. It seems like Phoebe Bridgers is on the verge of great things.

2) “Piano Solo: album”  by Emahoy Tsegue-Maryam Guebrou

I’ve probably listened to this album more than any other in the past decade. It’s the perfect soundtrack to early mornings and late nights. It can relax you or wake you up depending on what you need from it.  It’s a beautiful window into a peaceful and pensive world. The pianist and composer is an Ethiopian nun who now lives in Jerusalem and is very old.. I was fortunate to see a full concert of her work by her disciple, the Israeli musician Maya Dunietz, at Le Guess Who festival in the Netherlands last fall. and hearing these songs coming from and actual piano in a concert hall was sublime, but nothing can live up to the experience of hearing Maryam herself play them so perfectly on these recordings.

3): “An Empty Bliss Beyond This World” by the Caretaker

Leland Kirby aka the Caretaker is a reclusive Brit who (on some of his records) uses the warped and crackly sounds of old jazz 78s to create these deeply soothing and abstract  songs, often sounding like a memory or a dream of an Alzheimer’s patient recalling the old days through a foggy lens of time and dementia ..  it sounds like the record started skipping or repeating but the phrase it loops is so musical and pleasant that it makes sense to just let it keep going and lose track of hours in the soft reverb’s glow.

4)  “Heaven and Earth Magic” a film by Harry Smith

Harry Smith may be best known for creating the American Anthology of Folk Music, and probably his legendary and pioneering experimental films would be his next most well known accomplishment. This one was made through the painstaking frame-by-frame process of stop-motion animation, using thousands of paper cut-outs. I like to experiment with applying different soundtracks to it. Harry was a true polymath and a genius. His work across many different fields of anthropology, from collecting hand-painted Ukrainian Easter eggs and string figure designs from across the world, to field recordings of the Lower East Side and folk and blues records, are all little parts of a life-long obsession with finding the connections between different cultures and archetypes. A book about him I happened upon when I was 19 was a life-changer for me, it’s called American Magus’ I also have a book of interviews with him called Think of the Self Speaking... He was a sadly under-recognized influence on the 1960’s counterculture and his life and work were both inspiring and tragic.

5) Gordon Hempton, silence activist

I heard an interview with Gordon Hempton on the “On Being�� podcast recently. His life’s work is to locate and attempt to document and preserve the few remaining places on earth which are free from human noise pollution. He brings up many important points about what it means to listen and to hear, and about the value and rarity of real silence.

6) “The Science Delusion” by Rupert Sheldrake

Rupert Sheldrake is a British biologist who created the “Theory of Morphic Resonance” as an attempt to explain scientifically such phenomena as ESP and  synchronicity. He posits that an invisible filed, a “Morphic Field” connects all that exists and it is through this timeless/spaceless field that psychic transmission and other “unexplainable”  events are conducted. This TED talk he gave was “banned” because it was considered too far out to be officially sponsored by TED, which gained him a lot of attention and some notoriety. His work, however, is not so sensational and is very interesting. One of his most well known experiments, known as “Dogs who know when their owners are coming home” documents the way in which a dog begins to wait at the door of the house when the owner has formed the intention to return home. The owner is out of the house and is paged to return home at a random time. The video camera by the door of the house, more often than not, shows that the dog starts to wait at the door at the exact moment the owner DECIDES to return. How do you explain that? I’m excited because my bandmate Hale May actually knows Rupert personally and I may be getting to meet him on tour this month in London- I’ve been a fan of his work for many years. To me he’s like a rockstar of science.

8) “A Joyful Noise”  by Sun Ra

I used to work at a movie theater called the Charles in my hometown of Baltimore  and was lucky enough to be present on two occasions for a screening of this film with the director present. Some of the live footage of Sun Ra and his Arkestra in the film was actually shot in the same building where I saw it screened, which at one time was the Left Bank Jazz Society. I keep coming back to this movie when I need to be reminded of the outer limits that creativity and imagination can take me to. I actually have a bumper sticker on my car that says “What would Sun Ra do?” It’s always good to remember the interplanetary perspective!

9) “Horizon” by Aldous Harding (live in LA, shot from the audience by yours truly)

I’ve been a devoted follower of Aldous Harding for over a year now and was lucky to be on her guest list for a recent show in LA where I captured the last song of her set on my phone and posted it to Youtube.  I had also seen her last spring at Union Chapel in London, an early morning concert in an ancient cathedral with super high ceilings and incredible atmosphere. This performance is highly evolved compared to what I saw the first time. Aldous is from New Zealand and is about to release a new record on 4AD, and this song “Horizon” is the lead single. I got the impression 99% of the people in the audience, there to see another artist, were unfamiliar with her, and she had everyone spellbound with their jaws dropping on the floor by the end of this song. Tragically, all of her gear was stolen from her van after this triumphant show. It was the kind of show that makes you want to change your life.

I can’t say that I agree with everything Adam Curtis has to say in this film, which I saw in London shortly before the election results in the US which it seems to predict...  But there’s a lot of important information and a coherent world-view which is worth considering at this time of mass confusion and “fake news”.. This came out before the term “fake news” was even being thrown around, but ti basically proposes that we live in an entirely “fake reality” and overall i’d have to agree. I don’t quite resonate with the way he seems to blame artists and bohemians like Patti Smith for the rise of this “fake society” , but nonetheless this is an important and uncomfortable look into the mirror of our insane moment right now in western civilization and I highly recommend it.

BRENDA BUTTNER, FOX NEWS HOST: I bet this is a hot topic at your Thanksgiving table right now. What to do with ten thousand Syrian refugees to make sure ISIS doesn`t sneak in with them. The president already threatening to veto a bill that would vet them further, something not sitting well with Florida Republican Congressman Ron DeSantis. Congressman, thank you so much for joining us.

You voted with the majority on that bill to further vet, basically, our vetting process for refugees. 47 Democrats voted along with you. Is that a sign that the president is becoming more isolated on thos issue?

REP. RON DESANTIS (R-FL), COMMITTEE ON FOREIGN AFFAIRS: Well happy Thanksgiving, Brenda.

BUTTNER: You, too.

DESANTIS: Yeah, I think without question, if you look at the numbers that the president is talking about, 10,000 people, if only one percent of those mean to do us harm or intending to commit terrorist acts, that means you`re bringing in 100 terrorists into the country, and we talked to the FBI director, even before the Paris attack, and he testified in front of Congress that the government cannot vet these people adequately because there isn`t enough information to do it.

So, I think the prudent policy is to err on the side of protecting the American people, and here`s the thing, Brenda. We can help about four or five refugees over in that theater for the cost of bringing one over here. So even if we didn`t have these terrorism concerns, I think there`s an argument our money is probably better spent by sending it over there and having people directed to safe zones.

BUTTNER: What happens if the Senate doesn`t take up this bill? It may not get traction. Minority Leader Harry Reid doesn`t really want to take it up. Then the president plans to veto it. What can you do?

DESANTIS: Well, first of all, I think that it`s likely to get to the president`s desk. He is going veto it and he`s going to have to explain and I think you see his poll numbers are dropping precipitously given how he`s handled this issue. I think he`s like -- 35 percent approve of how he is handling terrorism. So if he vetoes the bill and the public responds negatively to him, I think that`s going to put even more pressure on the Democrats in the Congress to join with us if we put funding prohibitions on the next budget bill that comes down the pike, not allowing the president to spend money to bring any unvetted refugees over to our country, and we could potentially end up with veto-proof majorities. We already got that in the House with our bill. This could potentially get us there in the Senate if the president vetoes a bill and then there`s a public backlash.

BUTTNER: There`s a move afoot in our northern neighbor in Canada to basically say, we won`t take any single men, we`re only taking women and children. But we have a very porous border and does that really stop the terrorists from getting in? Women -- we have seen in Paris -- can be terrorists, too.

DESANTIS: You have to vet everybody. You absolutely do have female suicide bombers. And so the idea that just because it`s a female that you`re not going to vet them, that doesn`t work. So yes, I think we have to be concerned, and not only with the refugee situation. It`s very easy for people to fly into Canada from some of these troubled spots and then they can come across our northern border. So I think it`s absolutely a cause of concern.

BUTTNER: And what do we do about that?

DESANTIS: Well, I think that we have to look at how you can gain entry into our country. The refugees is one. The legal immigration system is another. And then we also have visa waiver and people coming over on visas. I think all that has to be vetted in a way that errs on the side of protecting the American people. If there`s a chance that someone may be inclined to be an enemy of the country, then I think you have to err on the side of caution.

BUTTNER: You know, the argument on the other side is that we, as Americans -- our values are that it`s our obligation to bring in refugees, those who have been in war-torn situations and need help. How do you answer that?

DESANTIS: Well, we actually have been way more generous than pretty much every country in the world combined. But simply because there`s a war, that`s never been necessarily the test. We`ve accepted people who qualified for asylum because they were persecuted, say, like the Christians in Syria are being persecuted because of their faith or their ethnicity, but simply because they`re a war, that doesn`t necessarily mean that everybody gets to come to the United States, and as I mentioned earlier, I think you can help a lot of these people in a more cost-effective way. You can help more of them by administering that aid overseas rather than flying them halfway across the world.

BUTTNER: Right. Now what about the issue of giving state governors the choice whether or not to take the refugees in? That would require basically amending the Refugee Act of 1980. Do you support that?

DESANTIS: I do. Here`s why. State and local law enforcement are the primary protectors of the health, safety, and welfare of the people in the individual states. So they have a significant responsibility to keep their citizens safe, such as at the Mall of America, as you mentioned earlier on the show. So I think that they should absolutely have a voice in whether people are coming into their state that could potentially pose a problem.

BUTTNER: Do you think you might have the votes in Congress to do that?

DESANTIS: I think we could definitely pass it out of the house. Whether we could pass it out of the Senate, I`m not sure. And I would imagine, given the president`s posture on this, that he would threaten to veto such a bill.

BUTTNER: All right. Congressman, thank you very, very much. I hope you have a very happy and safe Thanksgiving.

DESANTIS: Same to you.

Florida House passes bill that forbids 'sanctuary cities,' would issue fines for failing to help federal immigration authorities

The Florida House of Representatives voted Wednesday to require local officials to comply with federal immigration authorities, a move that brings the Republican-controlled state government to the cusp of enacting one of the nation's most stringent laws against "sanctuary cities."

The state House legislation, which passed in a 69-to-47 vote, would bar local governments from ignoring Immigration and Customs Enforcement requests -- known as detainers -- for local jails to hold suspected undocumented immigrants until federal authorities take them into custody. It also mandates that local agencies use their "best efforts to support federal immigration law" and threatens a fine of up to $5,000 per day for entities that violate the law.

A Florida Senate committee approved similar legislation last week. Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), who made the issue a central issue in his campaign last year, has been urging senators to act on the bill before the state's legislative session ends next week.

While the definition of sanctuary cities varies, most analysts say Florida does not have any.

The bill has become a top priority for Florida Republicans in recent weeks, as they have been eager to support DeSantis and President Trump, who has threatened to release migrants into sanctuary cities that do not comply with ICE detainer requests. The Trump administration also has vowed to withhold law enforcement grants from localities that refuse to cooperate with federal immigration authorities.

"This bill is about public safety and making sure we remove the criminal element of illegals that are here," said state Sen. Joe Gruters, sponsor of the Senate legislation and chairman of the Florida Republican Party. "The president has a laser focus on the failures of Washington in terms of immigration policy, and I think that has made this effort easier."

At least 25 states considered legislation dealing with sanctuary policies last year, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. One of them, California, enacted sweeping statewide legislation blocking law enforcement agencies from working with ICE to house undocumented immigrants who otherwise would not be held on local charges. Two other states, Iowa and Tennessee, enacted laws requiring local officials to comply with ICE requests.

Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R) this month signed a law to cut off funding for local governments that refuse to cooperate with ICE requests. Several other states also have policies prohibiting sanctuary jurisdictions: Iowa, Tennessee, Arizona, Alabama, Georgia, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina and Texas, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.

A half-dozen more states are considering similar legislation this year.

But Florida -- a state where 20 percent of the population is foreign-born -- has emerged as an especially emotional battleground in the nationwide fight over those laws.

In recent weeks, a coalition of civil rights groups, social justice advocates, farmers and state business leaders have teamed up to try to the block the state legislation. They argue that both the House and Senate bills are drafted so broadly that Florida law enforcement officials would in effect become deputies in Trump's broader crackdown on undocumented immigrants.

Earlier this month, the Florida chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union issued a "travel alert," warning that the legislation would "put immigrants at risk of violence, potentially forcing victims and witnesses to stay silent for fear of deportation."

More than than 120 Florida business leaders, ranging from a former chief executive of Carnival Cruise Line to executives of home-building companies, signed an open letter to DeSantis and legislative leaders warning that the bills could cripple the state's robust economy.

"Immigrants represent over 25 percent of our workforce and employ over 500,000 fellow Floridians," the letter states. "It is their innovative spirit that keeps us moving forward. Anti-immigrant legislation will inflict long-lasting damage to the state of Florida."

According to a study released in February by the Pew Research Center, Florida was home in 2016 to 775,000 undocumented immigrants, about 4 percent of the population. Seven percent of the students in Florida schools had at least one undocumented parent, the study concluded. Only California and Texas were home to more undocumented residents.

After Trump threatened in 2017 to strip federal money from cities that refuse to help deport immigrants, Miami-Dade County was the first to halt the sanctuary policy, even though 51.7 percent of residents are immigrants.

A Senate committee staff analysis found that the bill pending before the Florida Senate would require "any sanctuary policies currently in effect" to be repealed within 90 days after the bill becomes law.

Florida's attorney general could take civil action against state or local government entities, which advocates fear could make individual government employees liable for actions they take in support of an undocumented resident.

Although most ICE detainers are good for 48 hours, advocates say the legislation infringes on the rights of undocumented immigrants by denying them due process.

"It is really unclear why this bill is necessary," said Ingrid M. Delgado, the associate for social concerns for the Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops. "This bill goes much farther than federal law requires and mandates compliance with every detainer request, even for those who have not been convicted of a crime."

The ACLU has been battling ICE over allegations that it incorrectly issued detainer requests for 420 U.S. citizens who had been held in the Miami-Dade County jail over the past two years.

State Rep. Mike Beltran (R), a co-sponsor of the House bill, dismissed concerns that the legislation could lead to more racial profiling or unfair treatment of detained citizens.

"I don't think we should be out hunting for anyone, but if we come across people, and we know by checking ID and through booking that they are not legally present in the United States, it would be an abdication of duty as elected officials" not to cooperate with ICE, Beltran said.

Similar laws have been challenged in other states. The Florida legislation comes two years after Texas lawmakers passed a state law ordering that local authorities cooperate with ICE. Under the law, the state can fine local governments up to $25,500 a day for refusing to cooperate with immigration agents. Elected or appointed officials also can lose their jobs, and sheriffs and other police officers can face criminal charges if they refuse to cooperate.

Last year, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sued San Antonio on allegations that its police chief failed to turn over to ICE a dozen migrants found inside a tractor-trailer, instead handing them to Catholic Charities, the Associated Press reported. San Antonio also joined several of Texas's largest cities, including Houston and Dallas, in challenging the state law in court. But the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit upheld the law.

In Tennessee, Shelby County Attorney Marlinee Clark Iverson, whose jurisdiction includes Memphis, issued an opinion stating the county sheriff and jail officials did not need to comply with a new state law that sought to force compliance with ICE.

"It was so vague that anybody from [ICE], even a secretary or janitor, could call and say, 'Hold this person indefinitely,' for any of amount of time, perhaps forever,"

My name is dennis. I have been writing about a large group of people making my life miserable. It is the worst kept secret in america. Ive tried everything i can think of. I cant get an acct on twitter or snapchat or some of the other sites because i dont have a phone. I dont have a phone because i dont have any money. Ive been as clear and loud as i can possibly be. What ive been saying, ive been saying for along time. From what i understand, the defs are using the addiction frame as an excuse to make me live like this. They know it isnt true. I know it isnt true. I filed a lawsuit against these people. And, i think they lost. It doesnt matter. They are too powerful. They own the police. They cant admit that what they have doing to me was and is wrong. They have constructed this fantasyland where they are helping me, with some lie about an addiction to something. They say im addicted to alcohol and cocaine and other drugs.
