no i LOVE the concept of gojo Coming Back Not Right after toji killed him. i think fandom rlly overstates the whole "he was used as a weapon" thing and understates the whole "gojo got fvcking BRUTALLY MURDERED as a young teenager and when be comes back to life he's so deranged that the guy who kills him thinks to himself is he HIGH?"

like esp with how the scene went in the anime, it's definitely some kind of metaphor for gojo finding jujutsu enlightenment or something but like. he's also acting totally deranged. i'm not sure the enlightenment stuck right. or that it was the right kind in the first place.

i also wrote a whole thing about how i think that's how he became a masochist sdhgldfg would love to see more takes on that event it if you ever want to write it, in capacity or otherwise :)

i think he dabbles both in sadism and masochism because of How He Is. both naturally and after the toji thing. he is literally so strange to me. within the capacity universe it's kind of insane how much he loves the mc at all considering his love for suguru in the manga. i wish i was able to express it more in the story but alas it is reader oriented and i was having a challengers moment. honestly i think capacity!satoru struggles a lot with his sense of self (despite how he acts) ESPECIALLY now that suguru has defected -- sugu was almost like a role model for him, while he saw you as almost a maternal figure, unfortunately. both of you grounded him and once suguru left, i feel like he spiralled so much that his feelings for you got even bigger and grosser and more confusing. don't even get me started on how he's really been since you went off to kyoto GOD i don't think what i've written even encapsulates it all because he is kind of just batshit crazy

Long thread about my scattered thoughts about jjk

I always thought gojo dying a sorcerers death was fitting for his character an off screen death none of the grandure he has was given to him and that's the point no? in his final moments he died during his happiest spring with people he loved (in his head anyways)

Gojo satoru died a human death he preserved loved lived and he changed because of it

We constantly see Characters in jjk preserving fighting and trying as hard as they can to live and survive and they die, take nanami as an explample mei told him to move south if he wants stay the same, he dreamt of settling down in Thailand who is by the way south of Japan

And mei mei (you guessed it) was in Thailand right after, she managed to live bcs of that and the fact that he did change was the reason he died

Yuki was LITERALLY cut in half and she was still fighting kanjaku trying to prove to him that her philosophy is right and he's wrong about humans, same thing with choso and his fight he was thinking about his brother his LOVE for them that's what changed him

Yuji our LITERAL main character preserved trough his loved ones death and so hard for so long and he didn't even get to kill the person he hated the most, living in constant guilt and suicidal thoughts as TEENAGER to the point where just accepted his part as a clog in a bigger machine just trying his best to save people and honor his grandpa's death

Jujutsu kaisen is a horror story first and foremost it's a story about war and the cynical cycle of abuse not everybody is gonna break away from it, is it pessimistic? Sure, is it an invalid way telling a story? Absolutely not and anybody trying to say that gege doesn't know what their doing with the story is simply wrong and if you like so many people on twitter only read jjk for gojo you did not in fact read jjk

Gojo is FAR from one of my favorite characters I did not care for him for most of the story he's fun don't get me wrong but i thought getos decent to madness or sukunas very interesting and out there way of thinking (esp anything related to japeness culture )is far more fascinating but I loved his death and I genuinely thought it was beautiful, I think weekly leaks have rotted people brain perspection of jjk

generally beginning to realize that most people who thirst for the jjk men are doing so incorrectly and for the wrong reasons like just making up a generic archetype of a really cool hot guy from those het smutty self published amazon novels and pretending theyre the jjk dudes. when you can say anything about gege akutami but he gave us such a diverse & fascinating cast of hot dudes who are losers in such specific and different ways but always so devastatingly that none of them get any hole whatsoever

sometimes when i write i get super stumped bc i can’t think of what a character would say in the situation?? and i’m too scared of making it ooc. you always seem to have super spot on characterizations! so i was wondering if you have a way to get around this?

dialogue actually used to be one of the hardest bits for me! for some reason when I write for anime it comes a bit easier because I think of the dialogue in japanese and I kinda translate that over (although it does lose quite a bit of...nuance?)

if you’re stuck on dialogue, I’d suggest going back to the manga and rereading it! Take notes of how they speak. For instance, gojo uses a lot of informal speech/slang, especially as a teenager. By paying attention to their dialogue, personality, and how they’d react to certain events, you can piece together their character. going back to gojo, we can see that he doesn’t take many things seriously (we’ve only seen him actually serious like two times) so he would probably brush off most things other people consider dire because he knows he can handle it. he isn’t the type to be worried about the consequences either, so gojo definitely speaks his mind and doesn’t sugarcoat it.

Another thing that helps me for character to character dialogue is to pay attention to how they address one another in canon. Megumi still calls yuji “itadori” so that means while they’re friends, they aren’t on a first name basis yet which in japanese culture denotes a close/impolite relationship, and I kinda use that indicator to think of how they would speak to one another.

One of the key elements of mob psycho is that you are not the most important person. With all your special powers, your unique prowess with god and anime on your side, how great is that against learning how to do better in math? What about when you’re trying to woo a crush who’s already seen all your tricks?

That, in on its own, is the question Gojo Satoru has yet to answer for.

If you’ve ever wondered a “what if Mob never had Reigen” scenario, Gojo is the closest example. This isn’t just evident in the way that he’s an absolute manchild with his powers because he feels like there will never be consequences to his actions, but the aspect that he cannot perceive his identity beyond “strength.”

The world of Shaman / the Society of Sorcerers all perceive someone by the value of their strength alone. It doesn’t matter if that person is intelligent, has stable moral groundings or is able to overcome the most extensive of trauma. What matters to them, in the end, is how strong you really are. This is what made Gojo valuable because he was born strong. He didn’t eat a wrinkly finger from a dead cursed spirit, nor did he build himself to achieve such strength; he was born with it and was constantly hunted by bounty hunters.

Imagine your parents saying that when you were born

Someone on Twitter did a psychoanalysis of Gojo and I couldn’t agree more that he was probably raised in the way “gifted kids” were; they had to always exceed their conservative / authoritarian parents’ expectations, if not they would be perceived as a disgrace to their family. It also clears up how Gojo turned out to be an absolute pompous brat later on.

Take that phrase: “When Gojo was born, the power of the world was altered” and compare that to someone like Mob, who was raised without a heavy expectation for shifting the entire foundation of ESP:

His father doesn’t do a comparison between espers, but rather how people waste away their lives without self-destructive indulgences like cigarettes.

From the day of his birth, Gojo became a practical poster child for said “limitless” potential. He wasn’t raised like Mob who just happened to have this great power, he was treated as if there was only one of him in the world (and there is!), but it mentally placed a child onto a pedestal and managed to severe his empathy to said “weak” links.

“Protect the weak” what, are we the fucking teen Titans now??

In the eyes of a teenage Satoru, caring for the weak is as annoying as babysitting screaming brats. The only reason as to why he would say that is because he lacked empathy for those who were perceived as weak. The reason as to why he didn’t understand them was that he wasn’t raised around them / raised to understand them. He isn’t going to a normal HS, he’s going to a Curse College Tech where everyone has powers—but none of them as powerful as him.

Mob’s middle school only has three known espers: Mob, Ritsu and Takenaka. Everyone else is either a kid, a member of the body improvement club, or they’re unimpressed with psychic powers.

That eventually leads up to where Gojo learned his valuable lesson from: Getou. The scene in which Getou leaves after he lost purpose in being a Shaman is the closest we’ve got to a question asked in Mp100. There’s many ways to interpret it, but Getou (and even Nanami) always felt like they were consistently shadowed by a man who could do anything—ANYTHING—as long as he gave it his all.

Gojo didn’t just get the Reigen talk that Mob did, he got the Reigen “you’re-an-adult-fighting-misguided-minors-with-superpowers-you’re-a-fucking-joke” talk.

It’s a parallel (not similar) to what we’ve seen in Mp100 where Reigen simply tells Mob to be a good person. Getou doesn’t tell Gojo to be good or terrible to others, he simply tells him that he could easily kill him if he tried. Yet, the question is what makes Gojo hesitate to end him there—as if being the strongest in a world that would sooner get rid of you once you lose your worth to it is meaningless if that is all you are.

Are you strong because you’re Kageyama Shigeo or are you Shigeo Kageyama because you’re strong?

This is what changes Gojo entirely, as he would sooner become a mentor for the next generation than to let his skin blister in the limelight longer than it has. However, the biggest factor that I’ve noticed about Gojo is that he doesn’t run away from the Shaman world afterward.

We don’t see Gojo in a Nanami-esque situation where he works as the wacky History teacher at some tiny highschool with unique powers. We don’t see him settle down with someone and have a family of his own, all while hiding his past to his children so he and his spouse can live comfortably. He, instead, wants to change the sorcery world from the inside-out because he doesn’t want his kids / the generations after him to become no better than the executives.

In a personal opinion, I think he still doesn’t know how to live without being a Shaman. Everything he does, he can do with just the right amount of elbow grease. He can literally become the prime minister, but it won’t give him a natural understanding of those he would mentor / massively shadow.

In a twisted way, Gojo is trying to be what Getou would have been if he never defected. The only problem is that he’s not giving the next generation a broader insight of what lies beyond sorcerery. He doesn’t tell them that they have choices in life or informs them that they can astray from the tech. Instead, it’s borderline hypocritical where he expects the new generation to be able to change the world of sorcery without that insight. It only brings me, and even Gege, to ask this character:

How can you expect change if you, yourself, have never experienced it?

The way I was vibrating in my seat when Toge and Yuuta went on their mission… there was no reason they had to animate Toge like that… he didn’t have to stick his tongue out before he spoke, he didn’t have to do like four backflips in a row, it was personal. Also I haven’t stopped thinking about him just popping his finger back into place… he’s insane… I’m in love. He and Yuuta are very <333 to me. Everytime Yuuta’s internal monologue was like “Oh Toge is so cool,” I was like yeah you’re right <33

5. There are lots of things I don’t Get about Geto, and I don’t really see the hype about him, but I found it entertaining that he was so… lighthearted? Idk if that’s the right word, but I was like yeah I see why he and Gojo would have gotten along. He’s still the bad guy in all my daydreams and aus, and I will not change that </2 sorry to him and Toji who I don’t even know, but it’s my birthright to drag their names through the mud somebody has to be that girl

that's a pretty interesting question but i think gojo would still be against it, he has mentioned in ch2 how he always wanted to be alone and not have kids as of the moment (esp now since he had the goal of cleansing the world of jujutsu sorcerers) having a family or some thing with sentimental attachment when you're doing something as riskful as that isn't what he wants :")

You're checking your phone for emails while you're out shopping with gojo on one of the rare days where you're back in Tokyo and he has a free day off. Gojo's complaining about how you're more glued to your phone than teenagers nowadays!! But at this point in your life you've learned how to effectively turn gojo's voice into white noise. In one ear and out another. So imagine your surprise when gojo stops hovering around you only to get down on one knee. You do a double take and he loudly asks you to marry him??

Since it's Japan people are obviously going to be discreet about looking while others just keep going along their business, esp since it's rush hour. But there's a small crowd of onlookers forming, including a group of school girls who are positively sighing as gojo talks about how you're his soulmate, the dog the both of you share (WHAT DOG??), the way he's been madly in love with you since high school (the girls squeal and some of the women clutch their chests), how he can't imagine waking up without seeing your face across from his, how much he wants to spend the rest of his life with you. Etc.

And in his hands?? A ring pop.

You blanch, the hand holding your phone frozen as you stare at him professing his undying, eternal love and devotion for you, a shit eating grin on his face, and an amused glint in his eyes.

You stammer out an excuse, mortified by the way everyone's heads swivel to you awaiting your answer. Not to mention the fact that some of the things he said was not good for your heart, judging by the way you can feel it beating in your throat. Your face burns as you storm away, and behind your back you can hear gojo proclaim that he's heartbroken in response to the exclamations of shock by the crowd.

Anyway because of that incident you're super desensitized to embarassing situations to the point where nothing outwardly fazes you anymore.

But also: gojo's punishment is that you ignore his existence for two months. You block his number too so he isn't blowing up your phone either. Sorry, Yaga! You don't know a man named Gojo Satoru?? Who's that?? The only Gojo you know is dead. Shoko thinks it's hilarious!! Your number one supporter!! Utahime too + the added bonus of seeing gojo suffer is always nice. When you absolutely need him for something you go to Ijichi who dreads being in the middle of your one sided Cold War and cries himself to sleep every night. gojo's being mean to him because he's sulking about how you refuse to acknowledge him. When you talk to Ijichi you don't even use his name, instead it's "tell that person not to be late to the meeting." All while gojo's standing right in front of you.

Eventually gojo gets fidgety and admits that in hindset, maybe just maybe, faking a marriage proposal wasn't the best way to get your attention.

Just when you're finally about to forget the incident entirely, Shoko shows you a video on YouTube with thousands of views.
