Ppl be out here sayin "Volo is more morally reprehensible than Kamado, u guys just like him more bc he's pretty" but hear me out

Volo is a cheery oddball stranger that may or may not stalk u and gives u trinkets from time to time.

Kamado is the grumpy boss who sumo throws u the first time u meet him and whose orders u have to suck up to in order to stay alive no matter how life threatening it is in hopes u finally get accepted in the village.

Guess whose betrayal hurts more.

Both Kamado and Volo suck, the difference is that Volo gets sent to gay baby jail and Kamado to “you remind me too much of my shitty dad for me to actually look at your actions from a justified pov” jail.

#shell reblogs #the thing about the betrayals is effectively in how they're set up #volo's betrayal relies a lot on how attached you are to him through his goodwill #he is in no way an important figure even in the main story #up until the exile he just checks in on you from time to time and battles you #even if he doesnt really need to #while kamado adaman irida and the others are bound to you by your job #which is why it hurts more to be rejected by them when your exiled bc of kamado #and why youre inclined to feel really grateful if not indebted to volo when he helps you out #but that all cancels out when players already think hes sus #esp due to cynthias presence in pokemon #while its not always sussed as a betrayal ppl know theres a catch #kamado on the other hand is a blank slate #we get no other insight in his role other than teasers or prof rowan who is blanker than kamado #so experiencing all that firsthand you genuinely think hes going in the right direction #hes a constant presence in the main story #hes the reason why youre being sent out to quell the nobles #hes the culmination of pokemon are terrifying creatures #and hes starting to warm up to them getting along all thanks to your efforts #thats why his extreme reaction feels like a whiplash #even if player thought something bad is about to happen they probably didnt expect THAT #even if theyre braced for it its still shocking and it still stings #pokemon legends arceus #pokemon volo #pokemon kamado
