🌕 Monday: Moon Magic On Mondays, align your practice with the energy of the moon. Perform rituals for manifestation, divination, or connecting with your intuition. Charge and cleanse your crystals under the moonlight.

Continuing with The Magician, from the Rider-Waite tarot deck:

Used in most tarot decks as well as in card games.  The Magician is in the tarot Major Arcana, and is interpreted as a symbol of power, potential and the unification of the physical and spiritual worlds. 

The magician originally started as a mountebank, or a stage magician.

“he curves of the magician's hat brim in the Marseilles image are similar to the esoteric deck's mathematical sign of infinity. Similarly, other symbols were added. The essentials are that the magician has set up a temporary table outdoors, to display items that represent the suits of the Minor Arcana: Cups, Coins, Swords (as knives). The fourth, the baton (Clubs) he holds in his hand. The baton was later changed to represent a literal magician's wand.[1]

Theories as to the Importance of the Baphomet/Magician in As Above, So Below:

Theories about the importance of these images:

· Baphomet leads to an association with old gods.  Is it possible that the puppets are an Lovecraftian-type horror?  These old gods inhabiting puppets and gaining their following through possession of children?  Maybe the adults as well, since Wally and Barnaby made it to a late show style TV show.

· If nothing else, Baphomet is a study in opposites and the occult.  In particular, Baphomet is currently known from a statue the Church of Satan built to feature in state legislatures in the US to protest the use of Christian religious symbols in government spaces.  The statue features Baphomet, with children at his knee (which was very much associated with child grooming by some Christians.)  For the Church of Satan, Satan is not worshipped in a literal sense, but is a symbol for humanity, free will, and questioning authority and established ideals.  However, the use of children in this statue does echo the discussion above.

 · As above, so below is referencing the literal division between the puppets and the actual living performers, controlling them from below.  In addition to the black whirlpool under home (which is how you access the “So below” page, there are other images that lead to this idea of what is happening in front of your eyes, and what is happening where you can’t see (this image is now on the wiki, so I will share it.)

We can see Julie's feet here and the scary looking dark below. At first, it felt ominous, like gallows or like someone planning to jump, but this is also a common configuration for a Muppet stage. In Jim Henson's biography, Jim Henson, by Brian Jay Jones, the set of Labyrinth is described as an actor's nightmare, with a series of openings throughout the floor to allow for the Muppet performers to do their thing amongst the human actors. (And the new documentary on Disney +, Idea Man, has some interesting footage of performance.)

I couldn't find a good picture of that set up, but here are the performers doing the firey sequence. 

I think this image of Julie's feet betrays a fear of the dark, black voids, and perhaps being controlled by another entity. I think it explains the use of the void altogether, along with the idea of being transported or being a door to another reality.

I'm not into tarot, but Arcana's a great Exceptional Story. Quite frankly, the Thirsty Croupier's a better narrator than most stories get, putting a lot of maybe-metaphor, maybe-mundane stuff I've seen before into clear plain text, despite the... esoteric form of storytelling. Getting three stacks of ATotG is super cool, too.

I'd love to hear a report from someone who has Exceptional membership, but hasn't started Evolution, or even acquired the Dilmun Club lapel badge yet. Do you get more explanations? Less?

One final real spoiler under the cut:

Hi!! I’m joining in the flower event. It looks super neat! Also I hope you’re doing well ^.^

Hmmm so my personality is INTP-A, close people would call me eccentric, attentive, and witty. (I think I’m boring but it’s all subjective lol) I tend to be pretty laidback and it takes a lot to anger or truly upset me, if something does it’s usually a build-up of numerous things. I’m usually the ‘therapist friend’ to close ones, unintentionally, because I’m good at reading people and listening. I don’t mind, but I got better with establishing boundaries for myself as I got older and being less meek. With that said, I’m also very protective of people important to me. I won’t be afraid to speak my mind if I feel it’s necessary. I’m pretty introverted and enjoy having copious amounts of time alone, as well as naps 😌 anything related to the sea or the thought of sitting on a hill overlooking the ocean calms me down when I’m feeling anxious or upset. Works every time ❤️

My interests are video games, psychology (especially of music and fiction!), music, writing ofc, reading tarot cards (been told I was psychic so that’s something I guess?), supernatural/esoteric stuff, science, and fantasy… to name a few.

Poppies mean sleep and imagination! This fits you perfectly since you like your naps and your writing of course! That requires great amounts of imagination! I've also seen your writing and it's very good! The poppy is connected to the Greek god of sleep and dreams, Morpheus! It's also famous for it's connection to a poem titled "To Sleep" by John Keats where he references poppies as a way to escape the things on his mind.

A white zinnia!

This is one of the flowers that's meaning changes depending on the color. A white zinnia means goodness. I chose this for you because well, everything about your personality screams that you're a good person! Being the therapist friend, taking quite a bit to anger, being a good listener, and being protective of those you care about are all qualities of a good person! The zinnia is a beautiful flower that can actually be found in paintings by famous artists like Van Gogh!

A fern!

While it's not a flower, regular plants also carry meanings! A fern means fascination and magic. I chose this for you because of your hobbies! Tarot readings, supernatural things, and fantasy are all very fascinating topics that are also often associated with magic! While it's rare for a fern to flower, some superstitions believe that the flower can guide you to the location of hidden treasure!

OK, so when it comes to UFOs or whatever you want to call them, I am the biggest sceptic.

Why?

Because I have never seen one or had an ET experience (not counting the fact that I DID once have the classic alien abduction dream!).

Yeah, I believe all that esoteric stuff because it's actually happened to me.

I've seen ghosts/spirits/whatever you want to call it, I've had paranormal experiences with spirits and encountered cryptids via the spirit of a Blemmyes which lived in the garden of my old house.

But I've never seen a UFO or encountered grey men or anything.

I once experienced a faux_UFO sighting, a public park miles away was holding an event with a laser show (this was back in '91 when it wasn't so common), I'd just finished a late shift at the library I worked in - walking home I saw all these flashing lights in the sky, zooming around in patterns.

The local radio stations were jammed with callers as it was also Halloween (no internet to check up with).

I was like, yes - that's it, there here (until the explanation came through).

And the worlds of paranormal activity rarely cross over into the UFO sphere despite the obvious parallels.

With all the extraterrestrial revelations being in the news recently, I decided to put it to the test...

Do aliens exist, are UFOs a real thing?

I consulted my Spirit Guides and they pulled the following cards...

The Chariot - An exploratory craft: The Chariot is all about going to new places, exploration, the vehicle doesn't (usually) seem to be connected to the animal/being that pulls it - it's literally moving without any form of propulsion and always shown with the figure in the cockpit operating without any reigns (mind control).

6 of Wands (visually referencing) the X-Files: a pop culture reference, the open reading meaning (Yoav Ben-Dov) talks of collaboration. Are the "authorities" in cahoots with the little green men?

7 of Swords (again visually)a flying saucer shape, turn the card on its side you get the lozenge shape UFO with flashing red lights- the seven of Wands (can) mean combating many opponents, a struggle - do they not align with all the governments or is difficult to get to earth? The inner Sword hints at some form of unconventional travel in the way it links between the outer mesh of blades, yet passes through - do alien craft use inter-dimensional travel?

Finally, The Emperor - Ming The Merciless. The Emperor lives in a cold, steel-like environment. He lives for battle and conquest, his world is all about the struggle to win. Are the aliens aggressive or is it the humans who are battling them? Either way, he is not to be crossed.

So, that's fairly obvious then - aliens DO exist and are at war with "some" of the governments of the world but collaborating with others.

Until I see one for myself, I'm staying open-minded about it but the tarot oracles are wiser than me...

To me, there isn't a person on earth who could ever replace you. I can't stop loving you. Trust me I've tried. It isn't about physical attraction. Its because I love you and everything about you. I loved having you around and getting to hear from you nearly every day. I listened to your words a lot. It started around 6 or 7 years ago, that's when I first found you online. I know you lost your dad and that has always broken my heart. I don't know how you do it because my dad is still alive and just thinking about him getting old is hard. I know you struggled with getting along with your mom and making friends. You love sonic and that game with the garden of faeries or whatever (I love that game too and rented it from blockbuster a couple of times a loooong time ago). You love family guy. South Park. Breaking bad. You have some sort of connection with Clarice Starling and the Hannibal Lecter movies. I watched the Silence of the Lambs and I adore that movie now and I kinda think I get what you saw in it.. you said you feel like you are the main character in life sometimes and I kinda had a similar thing but I never told you about it.. plus I wanted to ask you more about that but never got to. I know you are into the esoteric (I found you by searching the word esoteric btw) and into tarot and astrology, the kybalion and possibly alchemy which I used to really love all that stuff but gave up on it. Okay, I think that's the last of the new catalog items (besides some books) I need (want) to purchase for the shop. I bought some more pendulum boards from the person who made that rad "fuck it" board and the tarot stands. I picked up some very simple wooden holders for spheres that have a hole in the middle so you can put crystal balls and they won't roll a way. They are super simple but painting them would be nice.

I also picked up some pendulums since I have pendulum boards. I found these neat wooden ones that have compartments in them. You could fill them with rocks or a taglock or something, which I thought was neat for pendulum.

We are vending at a Celtic Fantasy Faire on the 20 and I have no idea how that's going to go. Our catalog of books might be a little esoteric for most folks there so having some cute things people might like should be good. I also know that when people who are meant to find our book selection find it, they are super excited so I think it will be worth it.

Gonna harvest some herbs from the garden on the full moon and sell those in bundles. I think I figured out a way to hang bundles of herbs from out tent. I also need to make more Hawthorn pentacles because they were a big hit last year.

What inspires your work? Who are your biggest inspirations?

People, community, justice. Relationships. I always want things to feel human and organic. In a world where capitalism wants everything to be homogenous and systemized, I always want to create the thing made by hand, the unique or weird thing. I love plants and am really inspired by nature and life cycles. I garden. The esoteric. Tarot and astrology. Texture. Experimentation. Materials. Clay, glass, brass, charcoal. Music, loud and soft textures, contrast.

Kae Tempest — I sat next to Kae in a poetry slam at the Nuyorican in NYC in, like, 2010. I didn’t know they were performing. We chatted a bit throughout the show and then they went last, destroying the stage and winning the slam. The have gone on to rap and write and put out records and write plays and exist in this elevated yet gritty, honest space. Their shows are some of the most magical community experiences I’ve ever witnessed. They care deeply about people and community and bring that to everything they do.

Adam Gnade — Writer and musician that I’ve followed since Myspace days. I messaged him once for the lyrics to a spoken word song I heard of his called “Honey Slides” and I was so happy he responded (but I never saved it and wish I did??). We’re now kind of internet acquaintances. He is prolific and speaks in this gritty, no fucks voice that I can always feel emotionally. He puts out books and cassettes and zines and just whatever he feels like forever. Years ago when I was asking myself what the definition of a successful artist meant to me, he was on my list because I just want to make stuff people care about, consistently, forever. He’s got a long-term, loyal fanbase. I just want to find my people and create for them/us for as long as I’m breathing. Girl Knew York — There is a way Mira is rooted in her voice and craft that allows her to branch out into so many different mediums and communities that I aspire to and have really resonated with in the last few years. Tracey Emin — Sexually empowered badass artist, uses her body to tell story. Just opened a school, holding space for other artists and building community.

David Lynch — Dark and weird. Prolific. Wholesome yet obscene. Moby — Plays, like, every instrument. Is always playing, even after so many years in the industry. Karen O — Such a unique voice in a male dominated industry and world. Seth Rogen — I love the way he’s built a brand around craft and his own unique interests and personality and pleasure.

Vex Ashley — Creating gorgeous erotic films with A Four Chambered Heart. Director, photographer, artist of all things erotic and dark.

Emma Ruth Rundle — Musician and visual artist. Creating dark, emotional art across different genres of music (metal, folk, etc.) and visual media (photography, sculpture, installation).
