TW: ableism I was so nervous coming into this one because 1) we still hadn't seen all of the curses come to fruition yet, and 2) I was expecting at least one character to die in the book. While both of these were valid things to be nervous about, I'm actually pleased with how both played out and Mandanna even managed to surprise me with 1) (okay, and admittedly in some areas of 2) as well). I feel in some ways this book was darker than the other two, which is saying something because House, especially at the end, was pretty dark. However, in this one our favorite cast of characters is facing problems from multiple sources, not least of which include Alexi and Sorsha. On top of that, Esmae, Amba, and Titania have to deal with the shit that went down at the end of House, so the three of them in particular are in some rough spaces in the book. This is a bit of a tangent, but the 'bowstring thumb' thing confused me a lot until I got about 1/2-2/3 way through the book. I've done archery before, but I've only learned Western techniques and so am not super familiar with the way other cultures do it. I assumed Esmae and co. were knocking their arrows using their index and middle fingers and drawing using those (or those + ring finger)...which would mean the thumb plays no part in knocking, drawing, or shooting. It wasn't until someone showed Esmae how to shoot the way I described above where it clicked that they were using a totally different method (and then I looked up traditional Indian archery techniques and.....uh.....yeah, you need a thumb for that). I was glad that got an additional explanation in this book, though, because I think I might've remained lost (or eventually remembered the internet exists and looked it up). Esmae and Alexi got to talk a bit more in this one than they did in the last one, which I think was good, though admittedly it could've been better. Esmae really gets a chance to let loose on some of the things she thinks about him, particularly his desire to be seen as the 'golden boy' as well as his seeming inability to contradict/think outside of their mother. Frankly, she's right and I don't think Alexi ever really gets it (which is kind of funny considering both Leila Saka and Kyra said something similar to him). I thought their dynamic was interesting in this one and it kind of came full-circle in a way. Esmae still wants Alexi destroyed, but she also still wants peace (or at least doesn't want Kali and its people hurt/destroyed), whereas Alexi still isn't willing to settle for a compr0mise. I will say, this might be one of the few books where I think the author actually could've written more and the book would not have suffered. The way things are resolved in the end re: the crown, Kali, and Esmae and Alexi could have, I think, used a bit more page time to explore. There is an epilogue-esque kind of ending that takes place months later, but it doesn't really focus on those things and I do wish we'd gotten to see more of that. Perhaps another short story at some point in the future? Onto individual character analyses, Esmae is, as mentioned, not really in a great place when the book opens (and I don't just mean physically). She does initially rebound fairly quickly, but everything that's been happening over the past three books does collapse back on her and we get to see the psychological toll that it's taken. Also as mentioned, she still wants to destroy Alexi, but she also takes a moment to reassess things and is willing to try something other than all-out war if possible. Esmae also has to struggle with having lose her 'bowstring thumb' and re-learning how to do certain things with a prosthetic. The process frustrates her and we do get a sense of her loss, but she's also willing to train and work to get to a place where she can still fight, whether it's with her left hand or a different way of using her right. Esmae develops as a character throughout each book and that development is really seen here as she starts to grow away from the solely revenge-driven person she had been in House. Titania gets a POV again in this book and also gets more chapters from her POV. As a ship it's hard to remember how young she is, but she really is just a child still and has seen so much. She yearns to be human, but also knows she's useful as a ship and wants to be able to help Esmae and Max and everyone with the coming war. Despite not being happy with what happened at Arcadia at the end of the last book, Titania seemed to have used Esmae's disappearance as a way to distract herself/rebound and for most of the book she's the same bubbly Titania we've always known. Things do change, as they must, but Titania remains a big part of the story. Radha also gets a POV, which was somewhat surprising as I'd been expecting Sybilla to be a POV character. However, Radha is able to give insight into events and people that the other characters cannot. For instance, at the end of the last book, Radha went back to Wychstar, and so we get to see what's going on there as well as some of the other political events that she's privvy to but that other characters either aren't or don't bother with. I liked seeing inside her head because she is a nice person and she is loyal to Esmae and her new friends on Kali, but also has moments when she doubts herself. Her interactions with Sybilla are fun to read since they have very different dispositions and Radha knows exactly how to tongue-tie Sybilla. Sybilla, while still thorny, lets herself show more emotion in this one. She and Esmae's friendship is perfect and Sybilla offers a good amount of gentleness and hard truths. I feel like we see less of her in this book, though, and I would have liked to see more. I enjoyed reading as she became more open to other people and expressed that softer side of herself. Max underwent some development as well, and while he still prefers peace, we do get to see him in battle a little. Like with Sybilla, I wish we saw more of him in this book, but at least the parts that we do see are rich in content and characterization. I've always appreciated his general demeanor when it comes to Esmae and continue to do so in this book. War is, obviously, not what he wanted, but he's still willing to support whatever she decides. It's also fun to see him and Amba interact more since she's always around now. Alexi is, understandably, frustrating. I mentioned above that he very much cares what others think and that he listens a little too much to Kyra. He's also generally unwilling to listen to anyone else. He does do some good things in the book, don't get me wrong, but he does a lot in this book and misunderstands a lot. I suppose we could say the same of Esmae, but, obviously, we're getting things from Emsae and her friends' POVs, so Esmae's faults seem/feel different than Alexi's. (I should note, it is mostly (entirely?) Alexi and his side of things that engage in the ableism mentioned above) Bear is still pretty much the same he's been in the last two books. He's tied between loyalty to Alexi and loyalty to Esmae. He loves them both and doesn't want either of them fighting and, I think, could himself make a pretty good negotiator/peacemaker given the time and page space. He matters a lot to Alexi and Esmae, which is another reason I think he could've mended things, but he has even less page time here than in House so that isn't his role. Also, while he is stuck in the middle of the two sides, he does consistently chose Alexi, even if he does help Esmae at times. Thus, while he is caught between the two and perhaps could have helped stopped the war, he is also too strongly on Alexi's side for much of his Alexi-Esmae-get-along desires to work out. Sorsha can't really be discussed without spoilery things being revealed. I did like the idea of a space dragon who eats stars, so that was pretty cool. Overall, I did like the book and thought that it was a nice, fitting conclusion to the trilogy. I do wish it had been a bit longer so that we could get more page time with some of the characters, have a bit longer build up to the climax, and then see how things played out a little more after things got (mostly) resolved.

Overview: I really, really loved the first book in this trilogy, so I was somewhat disappointed when the sequel failed to live up to my expectations. Most of the things I loved about A Spark of White Fire were absent from A House of Rage and Sorrow: the gods were more withdrawn, there are no prophecies to avert, Esmae has chosen a side so there is no longer the view that both sides have merits (at least, not in Esmae’s mind). But by far, the things that most prevented me from loving this book was the pacing and chaotic plot structure, which I will explain in more detail below. Thus, this book only gets a 2 star rating from me.

Writing: Mandanna’s prose in A House of Rage and Sorrow is fairly similar to that of A Spark of White Fire. It’s fairly straightforward, without many flourishes or complex imagery, which can be good or bad, depending on your preference. However, because of the quick pacing in A House of Rage and Sorrow, Mandanna’s prose felt more sparse than before; because we whip through events so quickly, there is little time to establish the mood or feeling of a new location, or little time devoted to making Esmae’s emotions feel tangible. Instead, we get quick notes like “the hall is lined with bookcases” or “the ground is covered in snow.” I wanted a little more grandeur, especially in celestial places, and I wanted Esmae’s emotions to resonate a little more with the reader.

There is also a major change in that we are given Titania’s POV for several chapters in A House of Rage and Sorrow. While the idea is an interesting one, I ultimately didn’t think Titania’s perspective added much to the story. Everything Titania related could have been done from Esmae’s POV, and Titania herself didn’t have a strong enough personal arc to make me feel invested in her story apart from Esmae. I think it could have worked if Titania was doing more on the side, participating in events without Esmae’s knowledge, but for me, it seemed like this POV was included just for variety, not for any real plot or storytelling purpose.

Plot: It’s hard to describe the plot of this book other than “Esmae plans to make her brother suffer” because, at least for me, the structure felt somewhat chaotic. Events didn’t really build on each other until the last quarter or so towards the end, and the combination of a lot of twists without much foreshadowing or groundwork made the shocking parts of the story feel unearned. So much seemed to come out of nowhere that the story didn’t feel suspenseful; it was just one shocking thing after another, some of which seemed to be inserted for convenience rather than purposeful storytelling.

Also, because the pace moves so fast, there is a lot more focus on events than characterization, which made the plot feel empty because there wasn’t a lot of time to explore the emotional impacts of any given reveal. For example, Esmae doesn’t seem to grapple that much with Max’s secret identity, and nothing was shown to us that would have foreshadowed that reveal anyway (at least, I don’t think there was).

Moreover, a lot of things seemed to happen off-page and characters would tell us about them later, rather than the reader experiencing things through Esmae’s POV as they happened. As a reader, I felt like I was expected to absorb the significance of these events, but because I didn’t really see them, I didn’t quite feel like I could connect with them emotionally. For example, the stuff about Esmae’s father comes out of nowhere and happens off-page. The only reason we know about it is because Titania and Kirrin tell us (and other characters) about what happened. Also, there is a section where Esmae relates an encounter where she almost dies, but the suspense is taken out of the story because it’s told in a kind of flashback, so we already know that things turn out ok.

Overall, I would have liked a slower pace and more groundwork to be laid so that when the twists come, they are at least foreshadowed in some way. I also would have liked plot points to build on each other more clearly throughout the book, building up to the finale rather than the story floundering before finding its feet during the last quarter.

Characters: Most of the characters are the same as in A Spark of White Fire, but their motivations and emotions are little more unclear. Esmae is perhaps the most changed of all, going from conflicted in the first book to single-minded in this one. I can understand that to an extent, and I think a story about how grief and obsession with revenge can be the basis of an interesting story; however, I felt like Esmae didn’t emotionally progress in any way, and her arc felt somewhat static.

Sibylla, Esmae’s bodyguard, gets a lot more screen time in this book, and though I liked her as a character, I also think her arc could have been stronger. Sibylla’s journey was more about learning to accept and embrace good things in her life, and I think it could have been a nice counter-point to Esmae’s story, if the two arcs mirrored each other a little more.

The gods also had a little more personal drama in this book, and I really wish more was done to foreground Amba’s emotional journey. Amba is largely absent because she has to guard the prison where a great beast lives, so we don’t get to see her emotionally develop until the surprise twist with her towards the end. I would have liked to see Amba interact more with Esmae and for Mandanna to show us how the relationship between the two changes the way Amba feels about her godhood (or, at least, why Esmae is more important to Amba than her celestial family).

Other recurring characters had potential, but ultimately fell flat for me because of pacing. Max could have had a more interesting arc if his secret identity was foreshadowed more. Alexi’s regret could have been more potent (I almost wish the second POV was Alexi’s and not Titania’s) and his offer at the end of the book had been foreshadowed, rather than coming out of nowhere. The stuff with Esmae’s mother could have been foreshadowed more. Ultimately, everything moved too fast and characters felt like they were acting in service to a twisty plot more than fulfilling a personal arc.

TL;DR: A House of Rage and Sorrow suffered from poor pacing, flattened characterizations, and a chaotic plot structure. Because so much of what I loved about the first book was absent in the second, I ultimately felt disappointed, but I am looking forward to the final installment in the trilogy.

Ruby cresceu com sua avó, uma viúva solitária, contando sobre a herança mágica no sangue da família, sacerdotes ancestrais de uma instituição chamada Casa da Vida. Receptáculos dos deuses, guardiões das palavras sagradas, protetores do faraó, o filho de Rá na terra, orientador de todos os homens… Ruby sempre ficava impressionada e embora se arrepiasse ao ouvir todas as histórias da velha Esma, achava-se incapaz de acreditar. Por gostar tanto de história, refugiou-se nos livros. Sem muita perspectiva, Ruby se tornou bibliotecária. Devorava os livros e constantemente visitava os templos e os sítios arqueológicos, prestando algum auxílio quando se tratava de história e hieróglifos. Para a garota, era quase natural saber das histórias que as grandes paredes guardava e saber identificar os símbolos.

Quando certo dia estava a caminho do banheiro e de repente sentiu tropeçar em algo e então cair, Ruby não podia acreditar no que estava diante de seus olhos. Beliscou-se várias e várias vezes a procura de qualquer sinal de que pudesse estar dormindo, mas não estava! Não conseguia entender o que estava acontecendo, apenas que precisava voltar para sua velha avó e os sítios que tanto amava.

Ao cair em Eskye, Ruby começou a assumir a forma de uma das raças dominantes do lugar, com longas e fortes asas, chifres e garras [nota: me inspirei na aparência da Malévola dos filmes]. Certamente não achou tão encantadora, mas muito interessante. Suas asas são amarronzadas, assim como seus chifres escuros e garras da mesma cor. Intrigada, costuma passar longos minutos em frente a um espelho se observando, curiosa com as mudanças.

O duplo preceito da caridade

Veio o Senhor, mestre da caridade, cheio de caridade, cumprir prontamente a palavra sobre a terra (cf. Rm 9,28 Vulg.), como dele foi anunciado, e sintetizou a lei e os profetas nos dois preceitos da caridade.

Recordai comigo, irmãos, quais são esses dois preceitos. É preciso que os conheçais profundamente, de tal modo que não vos venham à mente só quando vo-los lembramos, mas os conserveis sempre bem gravados em vossos corações. Recordai-vos em todo momento de que devemos amar a Deus e ao próximo: a Deus de todo o nosso coração, de toda a nossa alma, e de todo o nosso entendimento; e ao próximo como a nós mesmos (cf. Mt 22,37-39).

Esses dois preceitos devem ser sempre lembrados, meditados , conservados na memória, praticados, cumpridos. O amor de Deus ocupa o primeiro lugar na ordem dos preceitos, mas o amor do próximo ocupa o primeiro lugar na ordem da execução. Pois, quem te deu esse duplo preceito do amor não podia ordenar-te amar primeiro ao próximo e depois a Deus, mas primeiramente a Deus e depois ao próximo.

Entretanto, tu que ainda não vês a Deus, merecerás vê-lo se amas o próximo; amando-o purificas teu olhar para veres a Deus, como afirma expressamente São João: Quem não ama o seu irmão, a quem vê, não poderá amar a Deus, a quem não vê (1Jo 4,20).

Ouviste o mandamento: Ama a Deus. Se me disseres: "Mostra-me a quem devo amar", que responderei senão o que disse o mesmo São João: A Deus, ninguém jamais viu? (Jo 1,18). E para pensares que está absolutamente fora de teu alcance ver a Deus, o mencionado apóstolo afirma: Deus é amor: quem permanece no amor, permanece com Deus (1Jo 4,16). Ama, pois, o teu próximo e procura no teu íntimo a origem deste amor; lá verás a Deus o quanto agora te é possível.

Começa, portanto, a amar o próximo. Reparte o pão com o faminto, acolhe em casa o pobre sem abrigo; quando encontrares um nu, cobre-o, e não dês as costas ao teu semelhante (cf. Is 58,7).

Procedendo assim, o que alcançarás? Então brilhará a tua luz como a aurora (Is 58,8). Tua luz é o teu Deus; ele é a aurora que despontará sobre ti depois da noite desta vida. Essa luz não conhece princípio nem ocaso, porque existe eternamente.

Amando o próximo e cuidando dele, vais percorrendo o teu caminho. E para onde caminhas senão para o Senhor Deus, para Aquele que devemos amar com todo o nosso coração, com toda a nossa alma, de toda a nossa mente? É certo que ainda não chegamos até junto do Senhor; mas já temos conosco o próximo. Ajuda, portanto, aquele que tens ao lado, enquanto caminhas neste mundo, e chegarás até junto daquele com quem desejas permanecer para sempre.

KDHX, 16 June 2019, “Music from the Hills” (Macedonian)

In many ways, this show was a redo of one of my last run.  There is nothing wrong with more Macedonian/Northern Greek music as it reflects a crossroads and very porous cultural boundaries.  What I thought missing last time was Sephardic music as Thessaloniki was one of the places folks settled after 1492.Savina Yannatou has a brilliant album, “Primavera en Salonica” that I wish I had played last time.  I included some Victoria Hazan and Voice of the Turtle too and the interplay with Esma Redezpova and others was fun to explore even if the selections were not geographically perfect.

I also shaded things more Greek than last time.  But, I wasn’t doing fine grained musicological analysis, rather I was suggesting some relationships and, above all, just playing stuff I liked from the questions I posed of the regular host and his CD collection.

It tickled me in the first hour to do a “Grewish” section--2 parts Sephardic, 2 parts Greek--to borrow dear friend Vassiliki Betty Smocovitis’s celebration of how our heritages would mash up.  And, similarly, I did a run of wedding music in the second hour.

I had one community radio scare as I started an important announcement out of order, but last week there was a 10 minute power outage.  The song entry system for Spinitron changed and felt more demanding.  But it’s all minor.

Gonzalo Sanchez, procurado pela Interpol, é preso pela PF no Rio

Acusado de crimes contra humanidade cometidos durante a ditadura na Argentina, o ex-oficial da Marinha daquele país Gonzalo Sanchez, de 69 anos, foi preso pela Polícia Federal nesta segunda-feira (11), em Paraty, no Rio de Janeiro.

O nome do ex-agente da ditadura não foi divulgado pela PF, mas a coluna apurou com investigadores que se trata de Gonzalo Sanchez, também conhecido como “El Chispa”.

Gonzalo Sanchez foi declarado foragido na Argentina em 2005. Ele é acusado de torturas e outros crimes contra a humanidade cometidos na Escola de Mecânica da Marinha (Esma), um dos mais sanguinários centros clandestinos de detenção que funcionaram na Argentina durante a ditadura que vigorou no país entre 1976 e 1983.

Na Argentina, Gonzalo Sanchez e outros oficiais militares foram acusados de assassinatos de estudantes, sindicalistas e políticos de oposição da ditadura. Os corpos desses opositores foram jogados ao mar nos chamados “voos da morte”.

No comunicado oficial da PF, no qual não foi informado o nome do militar da reserva argentina, a corporação explica que El Chispa foi preso em 2013 para fins de extradição, mas decisão judicial de 2016 concedeu a ele prisão domiciliar no Brasil.

Em 2019, contudo, o Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF) autorizou sua extradição para a Argentina. Desde então, contudo, Gonzalo Sanchez encontrava-se foragido.

A Polícia Federal também lembra que um novo mandado de prisão para fins de extradição foi expedido em janeiro de 2020 pelo ministro Luiz Fux, do STF. Nesta segunda (11), policiais federais lotados no escritório regional da Interpol no Rio, junto com o efetivo da delegacia de PF em Angra dos Reis, localizaram e prenderam o oficial militar argentino.

Scilingo concedió una entrevista al medio Voz Pópuli desde la prisión de Alcalá-Meco, en Madrid, donde cumple condena por su participación en los “vuelos de la muerte”, práctica clandestina mediante la cual las Fuerzas Armadas argentinas arrojaban cuerpos de las personas secuestradas y desaparecidas al mar.

Fue él mismo quien se encargó, en el 2007, de relatar al juez Baltasar Garzón cómo las personas eran arrojadas vivas, desnudas y drogadas desde los aviones. Antes, en 1996, lo había hecho en declaraciones a la televisión.

El excapitán de corbeta estuvo involucrado en los secuestros y torturas ocurridos en la Escuela de Mecánica de la Armada (ESMA), el centro clandestino más emblemático de la represión ilegal, cuyo edificio funciona hoy como Museo de la Memoria.

¿El rey de España estaba al tanto?

En la entrevista, el represor contó que llegaron allí tres personas, uno de los cuales dijo “pertenecer a la Armada Española” como “enviado personal del rey de España (Juan Carlos I)  para colaborar en la lucha contra la subversión por su experiencia contra ETA” (Euskadi Ta Askatasuna, la organización armada vasca e independentista ya disuelta).

“Vinieron a enseñar cómo se… En los reglamentos figuran los interrogatorios bajo acción compulsiva…[duda] Figura tortura, directamente”, señala Scilingo.

LISTADO EN PODER DEL GOBIERNO ARGENTINO

También afirmó que las Fuerzas Armadas tenían un listado completo de las personas desaparecidas por esa fuerza, y que ese listado está en manos del Gobierno argentino, pero no quiere revelarlo.

A más de 20 años de su último contacto con los medios, Scilingo negó los hechos por los que fue condenado, argumentando que no se le daba participación en los secuestros y torturas, entre otras razones, porque tenía una hermana perteneciente a la organización peronista armada Montoneros, cosa que lo avergonzaba entre sus colegas militares.

Según reveló, pudo encontrarse con ella en la clandestinidad, y poco después murió de cáncer.

Pese a la condena de más de mil años de prisión, Scilingo fue filmado mientras caminaba tranquilamente por las calles de un pueblo español situado en una sierra .

En un video publicado por la web señalada se ve a Scilingo paseando en libertad. La “justicia”  española le concedió el beneficio de salidas transitorias.

Saat 14.00 sıralarında Beşiktaş İlçesi Balmumcu Mahallesinde bulunan bir apartman dairesinde Gümrük Müşavirliği çalışanlarını tabanca tehdidi ile gasp etmeye çalışan ve bir kişiyi yaralayan olayın şüphelisi 8 kişi bir adet tabanca ile birlikte yakalanmıştır.

  4. İSTANBUL – YARALAMA

Saat 23.55 sıralarında Eyüp İlçesi Düğmeciler Mahallesi Esma Sultan Sokakta meydana gelen olayda bir kişi kişi bıçakla, bir kişi ise tabanca ile yaralanmış olup, şahıslar bir adet bıçak ve bir adet tabanca ile birlikte yakalanmıştır.

  5. İSTANBUL – EYP’Lİ VE SİLAHLI SALDIRI

Saat 01.30 sıralarında Küçükçekmece İlçesi Söğütlü Çeşme Mahallesi Zeytin Sokak üzerindeki bir ikamete tabanca ile ateş edip, kola kutusu içerisine hazırlanmış EYP atan şüpheli kişi ya da kişiler aranmaktadır.

Saat 09.00 sıralarında Konak İlçesi Turgut Reis Mahallesi Mithatpaşa Caddesi üzerinde bulunan bir ikamette çıkan yangında bir kişi hayatını kaybetmiştir.

  7. KÜTAHYA – ADAM ÖLDÜRME

Saat 02.30 sıralarında İl Merkezi Ali Paşa Mahallesi Hıfzı Emer Caddesi üzerinde bulunan yerde bir kişinin av tüfeği ile öldürülmesi olayıyla ilgili bir kişi suç aleti ile birlikte yakalanmıştır.

  8. ORDU – YAĞMA (GASP)

Saat 23.00 sıralarında Fatsa İlçesi Dumlupınar Mahallesi Reşadiye Caddesi üzerinde 2 kişiyi darp edip 15.600 TL parayı gasp eden, 2 kişi firari olarak aranmaktadır.

  9. ORDU – YANGIN

Saat 01.20 sıralarında Altınordu İlçesi Şahincili Mahallesi 583 Sokakta bulunan yerde, park halinde bulunan bir otomobili yanıcı madde dökmek suretiyle yakan şahıs firari olarak aranmaktadır.

Jorge Esma recibirá la “Pluma de Oro”

México.- El destacado escritor Jorge Esma Bazán, director general del Instituto de Historia y Museos de Yucatán con sede en el Gran Museo del Mundo Maya en Mérida, y presidente ejecutivo del Festival Internacional de la Cultura Maya (FIC-Maya), recibirá el jueves 3 de agosto la “Pluma de Oro” en la sala Manuel M. Ponce del Palacio de Bellas Artes.

El galardón se concederá directamente por la Sociedad General de Escritores de México (Sogem) y la Secretaría de Cultura del Gobierno de la República, en un evento donde también serán distinguidos Marcela del Río Reys y Willebaldo López Guzmán.

Los dos personajes exhibirán escenas de las obras El pulpo, la tragedia de los Kennedy, y Los arrieros con sus burros por la hermosa capital, respectivamente; así como de Mariposa Monarca; Que quede bien claro, basada en la tragedia de Luis Donaldo Colosio y su esposa Diana Laura, del propio Jorge Esma Bazán.

Dentro de la actividad participarán las actrices Irma Dorantes (Mérida, diciembre 21 de 1934), Lilia Aragón (Cuautla, Morelos, septiembre 22 de 1938) e Imelda Miller (Poccheiná, Tepakán, 1960), además de los actores Alejandro Tomassi (Ciudad de México, agosto 14 de 1957) y Manuel Ojeda (noviembre 4 de 1940, La Paz, Baja California Sur).

“Ciertamente es un profundo y honesto compromiso de vida trabajar en la dramaturgia y presentar dos obras al año, empeñarme en lo que pueda hacer de mi existencia lo que me falte por llevar a cabo, para seguir trabajando, realizando algunas prácticas de dramartugia y de igual forma, en la promoción cultural de todos los días, lo cual me significa compromiso de trabajo y gratitud por todas las energías que me han impulsado los amigos, colegas y familiares a hacer bien las cosas.”, señaló Esma.

En sus labores como funcionario público, laboró como coordinador del Departamento de Libros de la UNAM; jefe del Departamento de Promociones del Municipio de Mérida, Yucatán, y del de Difusión Cultural de la Universidad Anáhuac.

Del mismo modo, dirigió el Comité de Difusión Cultural del Sureste, Programas de Comunicación Social en la Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores, Difusión Cultural del Gobierno del Estado de Baja California, Instituto de Cultura y Comunicación de Baja California, Centro Cultural de Sonora, la Casa de la Cultura de Hermosillo, Sonora; Programa Cultural de las Fronteras (Frontera Sur) de la Subsecretaría de Cultura de la Educación Pública (SEP).
