y’all there is only one (1) thing in all of the critrole that is as painful to me as nott's godawful self-sacrifice/lowkey-suicidal-tendencies thing
and that is caduceus’s usefulness thing
quotes under the cut, incoherent yelling to follow tomorrow
cad has. a thing about being useful
-
Taliesin: He’s a big believer in getting comfortable where you are. And so after a couple harrowing near-deaths, he was—there was definitely a moment of like, “I am going to decide to have this not be my ocean experience. I am going to put active work into being comfortable and capable here, because this is not how the Clays function—we are capable people.” —TM for E47
Caduceus: Well, it’s not often that I have a pet project. I haven’t had one in a while, and that was the way I used to keep myself excited and busy when I was back home, so I’ve got a pet project. —E48
Caleb: I’m glad you are traveling with us. Caduceus: Me too. I’ve never felt so helpful. —E47
Taliesin: He also is noticing that in this place [the tunnels], that he is very useful, so he is definitely feeling—I’ve tried to push a little bit more of a tactical head on him and just let him be kind of a center of like, ‘Okay, I’m going to be taking care of things, this is what I’m supposed to do.’ Back at home fighting off whatever the hell got into the garden. —TM for E50
Matt: You see, kind of emerging out of some of the ruin here, a pale blue glow and what looks to be a female figure who just kinda drifts out of the ground. [...] Caduceus: That’s so sad. Beau: Why? Caduceus: It’s just here and unconnected. It’s sad to be unconnected. I wish I could do something. —E58
Taliesin: And with [Yasha] it’s a little bit more a, “I think this is an appropriate sibling relationship, and maybe what you need is just someone who can help you with your stuff and you can help me with them—” —TM for E58
Caduceus: Is this place yours? Wildmother: Yes, it is mine. My last and final seed. Caduceus: How new is the threat? I suppose I would say, ‘Is this one season? What’s the thing that’s beaten you back?” Wildmother: The land remains scarred. It has since we all stepped away. Caduceus: Am I here to fix this? Wildmother: It’s too big to fix. Your path is your own. Caduceus: I don’t like that answer one bit. Taliesin: All right. I will quietly come out of my trance and I’ve got nothing to say to that. —E65
Caduceus: This is the quest, and I was given these people, and I have done my best to support them. —E91
Caduceus: I don’t understand what it is I want anymore and that has shaken me. But this is a very big world. [laughs] It’s been a lot. It’s been nice to be useful. It’s good to be useful. —E91
and that’s because:
Caduceus: No one’s come back. When you came around, I had an inkling that it was supposed to be my job to do this from the beginning and that I had been shirking my duties. You all seemed like a very good sign that it was time to take some responsibility. —E49
Taliesin: He was not a wanderer. He was on the younger end of the kids and he was not really doing anything. —TM for E46/The Campaign So Far
Caleb: How many seasons has it been since someone has knocked on your door like we have? Caduceus: It’s been about two seasons, I suppose. Little bit of business, but it’s been very slow. —E28
with a side of:
Taliesin: And part of the training of being at the temple was learning to talk to people and make them feel better about things and help people open up. —TM for E50
and so of course:
Caduceus: Pull your weight. I hate lazy people. You found one of my buttons. —E36
