Top 5 Tourist Places in Srinagar
After a cold bath at Gulmarg, we were back to Srinagar. Earlier we had only a night’s stopover but did not get a chance to visit the surroundings. Now, it was time for city sightseeing. Srinagar is not just the state capital, but also the heart of Kashmir valley. Right from the ancient Hindu kings, to the Moghuls, then British and now the Indian citizens – all have admired Srinagar through ages. Here are some of the Top 5 tourist places in srinagar which you must not miss to visit during your stay in Srinagar.  Top 5 Tourist Places in Srinagar
Mughal Gardens (Char Bagh)
Mughal Gardens (Char Bagh): We all know about the four famous gardens of Persia, popularly known as Char Bagh. In Srinagar too there are four stunning terraced gardens patronized by the mighty Mughals themselves. They are open six days a week for tourists, except on Fridays from 9am to 6pm.  Top 5 Tourist Places in Srinagar
Needless to say, the architectural patterns of all four are highly influenced by the Persian gardens, offering splendid views of the Zabarwan Range and Dal Lake in one frame. They are namely – Chasm-e-Shahi, Pari Mahal, Nishat Bagh and Shalimar Bagh, comprising of the Char Bagh of Srinagar. All the gardens have four things in common – terraced planting, natural source of water (stream or spring), wide view of Dal Lake from four geographic directions and located at the foothills of Zabarwan Range.
Manasbal Lake
Manasbal Lake: Approx 32 kilometers from Srinagar, there is a picturesque waterbody named Manasbal Lake, which is arguably the deepest lake of India. It derives its name from the holy Manasarovar in Tibet. It took us exactly one hour by road. The dimensions of Manasbal Lake talk a lot about its grandeur. The perimeter of the lake will be approximately 11 kilometers, heightened by a concrete pavement which was beautifully decorated by flowering plants along the circular trail. However, the primary statistics of the lake is not its circumference but its vertical depth. Yes, the waterbed stands at a depth of more than 43 feet which marks its claim for the deepest lake of India. One can also see the ruins of Jarokabagh Palace and Mughal Gardens but the surrounding beauty is not so pleasant as in the latter.  Top 5 Tourist Places in Srinagar
Paani Temple of Pandrethan
Paani Temple of Pandrethan: This is yet another excellence of ancient Hindu architecture in the Kashmir valley – the Meruvardhanaswami Temple of Pandrethan, commonly referred as Paani Temple. ‘Paani’ is Hindi or Kashmiri language means ‘water’. Though originally it was all dry, but centuries of weathering have created a pool around it, submerging more than half of the construction inside water which sources its exciting forename. It is one of the legacy temples of India known for its subtle symmetrical architecture.
House Boat
House Boat: It is highly recommended to stay at least a night on a houseboat in Srinagar’s Dal Lake. Though there are innumerable hotels surrounding the lake itself, but houseboat experience is absolutely unique. They are immobile wooden palaces on water. The western side of the lake has a lock gate constructed during British Rule and is often referred as Dal Gate. Most of the houseboats are anchored along the western shoreline. The monarchs did not allow any housing constructions around Dal Lake, but later when the British took over the hill station, they permitted lavish resting corners on the water itself. The wooden structures resembled British cottages, flamboyantly lighted with chandeliers, erected in the form of a barge or lavish boat, but were essentially immobile; which with the passage of time came to be known as ‘houseboats’, ‘a little piece of England afloat’, ‘floating palaces’ and so on. However, ‘houseboat’ is the most common name of such luxury accommodation.  Top 5 Tourist Places in Srinagar
Shikara Ride on Dal Lake
5. Shikara Ride on Dal Lake: Whatever you talk about Kashmir falls short until Dal Lake is not canvassed. Often referred as the ‘Shaan-e-Kashmir’ (glamour or jewel of Kashmir), this gigantic freshwater lake stamps a permanent mark in every visitor’s heart. We were not spared from its enchanting aura too. Dal in Kashmiri language means ‘lake’; so in a way Dal Lake is a misnomer. It is not a single waterbody either; rather comprises of three interconnected lakes (Nishat, Brari and Hazratbal), four water basins (Gagribal, Lokut Dal, Bod Dal and Nigeen), several islands (popular ones are Rup Lank or Char Chinar, Kabutar Khana, Sona Lank and Nehru Park), floating gardens (called ‘Raad’ in Kashmiri) and numerous causeways along the boulevard. The perimeter of the lake miles through 16 square kilometers; which earlier during the Mughal era used to be nearly 22 square kilometers.
Unless you take a cozy ride on the shikara (canoes with comfy Mughal style sofas used for daily commute on the lake water, often used like water taxis), your Srinagar trip will be incomplete. Each shikara is uniquely named, colourfully painted and well decorated to offer every bit of leisure to its boarders. It’s said, Mughals used to enjoy romantic hours with their consorts on such boats. However over the centuries, shikaras have become one of the commercial sources of livelihood for the locales, especially during tourist seasons. Apart from tourists, they also help in transport of local produces, flowers, fishing, water plant harvests etc.
It was already six in the evening. Setting sun’s dissolving rays could still be seen at the horizon. Temperature too had started dropping sharply. The reflection of vibrant houseboat lights on the Dal Lake added a supernatural ambiance.
Reetwika’s Travel Tip: For detailed information about the Top 5 tourist places in srinagar, visit the individual articles available in Tours and Journeys under Jammu & Kashmir category.

The Mystery of the Georgia Guidestones
Tumblr media
In the summer of 1979, a man calling himself R.C. Christian (who admitted his name was a pseudonym) came to Elbert County, Georgia, planning to find somewhere with both enough granite for his project and enough space to display it. Christian created The Georgia Guidestones, which today, along with the identity of its creator, remains one of the United States’ biggest mysteries.
The Georgia Guidestones are a collection of granite slabs measuring 19 feet 3 inches (5.87 m) tall, with one slab in the center, four arranged around it, and one on top of the structure. They are positioned in an “X” pattern, with each axis oriented toward areas of the moon’s annual rotation around the earth.
The capstone at the top of the monument reads “Let these be guidestones to an age of reason," in Babylonian cuneiform, Egyptian hieroglyphics, Sanskrit, and classical Greek.
The slabs on the outside of the structure have a set of ten guidelines inscribed in Arabic, Chinese, English, Hebrew, Hindi, Russian, Spanish, and Swahili.
The guidelines are as follows:
1. Maintain humanity under 500,000,000 in perpetual balance with nature.
2. Guide reproduction wisely — improving fitness and diversity.
3. Unite humanity with a living new language.
4. Rule Passion — Faith — Tradition — and all things with tempered reason.
5. Protect people and nations with fair laws and just courts.
6. Let all nations rule internally resolving external disputes in a world court.
7. Avoid petty laws and useless officials.
8. Balance personal rights with social duties.
9. Prize truth — beauty — love — seeking harmony with the infinite.
10. Be not a cancer on the earth — Leave room for nature — Leave room for nature.
The guidelines and their vague wording have attracted many conspiracy theorists. One interpretation of the stones is that they describe how to rebuild a devastated civilization. Author Brad Meltzer argues that they may have been intended as a message to the possible survivors of a nuclear World War III since the stones had been erected at the height of the cold war. A local minister at the time proclaimed that he believed the monument was "for sun worshipers, for cult worship and for devil worship.” Notably, congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) responded to a 2018 Facebook post allegedly endorsing conspiracy theories stating Sandy Hook was staged and 9/11 was an inside job saying, “This is all true. By the way, I’ve seen the Georgia guide stones [sic].”
There are also astronomical meanings to the stones. As mentioned before, the stones are erected to follow the moon’s phases throughout the year. Along with that, in the middle of the “Gnomen” stone (the stone in the middle) is a large slot with a hole cut through the granite, orienting the monument with summer and winter solstices. The monument is also a sundial, as there is a small hole in the capstone allowing for sun to shine on the Gnomen stone at noon.
R.C. Christian never revealed his real name, the organization funding the creation of the structure, or the reasoning behind it.

I’ve been sitting on a rather odd realisation for a couple of months now.
It started with annoyance at an assumption I saw a lot online in fantasy and sci fi spaces. That you get to a point and cultural/temporal viewpoints become Too Different. That it would be impossible for us to understand the life and world of an ancient Babylonian, or a Neanderthal, or someone from 4000 AD.
It irked me. It felt somehow personally insulting. And when I pressed someone on it a little they started using life styles as examples. You couldn’t possibly understand a hunter gatherer society or that of a nomadic herder.
The problem was I *could*. I’d gone to school with kids whose parents or grandparents had lived like that. I’d met adults whose parents or grandparents had lived like that.
And I was struck by something strangely disconcerting.
You see I grew up in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. A society that is, literally, legally segregated by sex. Where it is/was *literally*, illegal to socialise outside your family in a lot of settings, especially if you’re designated female. People live/d in gated communities. Some of them literally had tanks outside the gates.
And yet I grew up with a greater variety of people then most people who grew up in the West.
I remembered a conversation I’d had years and years ago with a well meaning Canadian who was trying to explain the theory that growing up in a monoethnic area increased prejudice. And I rejected the idea out of hand because that wasn’t what I’d seen in people from (and I can’t stress this enough) a society that’s legally segregated.
I never stopped to look up the figures and realise that roughly half of the people in the triplet cities are foreign nationals.
I never really stopped to realise that most Westerners don’t grow up surrounded by people from India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Yemen, China, Egypt. I never really stopped to think that most Westerners who are raised Christian never hear the call to prayer. Or make friends with Farsi kids or feel the rhythm of things stopping for Ramadan. I never really appreciated that most English speakers didn’t grow up hearing Arabic, Urdu, Greek, Hindi, Tamil, as a matter of course.
Or rather, I didn’t appreciate what all that means.
I’m still not sure I do. Ironically I’m not sure I can relate to a life steeped in one culture, one religion, one point of view.
But it’s funny isn’t it? How these countries without visible walls, without such obvious legal barriers, have managed to erect much more impassible structures all the same.

The Wonder of the Taj Mahal
Tumblr media
The Taj Mahal is one of the world's most recognizable structures. Its name means "Place or position of the Crown" or in Hindi "Crown of the Palaces". It ranks among the most beautiful examples of religious art in all of Asia. It is rivaled only by the architecture of both the Gothic and Renaissance styles, remaining as one of the world’s most celebrated structures and a stunning symbol of India’s rich history. It is also a testament to the artistic and scientific accomplishments of a wealthy empire.
This UNESCO heritage site is considered one of the New Seven Wonders of the World — alongside the Great Wall of China and Petra in Jordan. But the Taj Mahal is one of the newer World Wonders on the list, having been commissioned in 1632. For this reason, its admirers are often surprised to find out that nobody actually knows who designed it. Construction of the mausoleum itself took a mere 22 years to complete. Other buildings were added as well as a garden, which was completed five years later.

A Design of its Time
The Taj Mahal's combination of Indian, Persian, and Islamic influences makes it the most distinctive and outstanding example of Mughal architecture in existence today. It is constructed of white marble inlaid with semi-precious stones (including jade, crystal, lapis lazuli, amethyst and turquoise) forming intricate designs in a technique known as pietra dura. Further, there are carvings and Koranic verses done in calligraphy that create an amazing interior space where Shah Jahan came to visit his wife’s remains before he was eventually interred at her side.

The Taj Mahal is part of an elaborate complex consisting of a decorative gateway, a beautifully designed garden, a wonderful water system and a mosque. The complex is situated on the southern banks of river Yamuna and stretches in a south to north incline towards the river and is constructed in steps. The Taj Mahal represents a key turning point in the identity of the empire itself. Although the Mughals were proud of their Persian and Timurid roots, the design of the Taj Mahal shows that they now saw themselves as being Indian first, while respecting their Muslim heritage. One of the building's most dominant themes is hierarchy, which played a critical role in Mughal religion and philosophy during the 17th century.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Mughals claimed descendence from Genghis Khan and Tamerlane (a Turkish-Mongolian Persianate conqueror who founded the Timurid Empire in and around modern-day Iran and Central Asia, becoming the first ruler of the Timurid dynasty) and established an extremely diverse, religiously tolerant society largely considered to be India's last Golden Age. The Mughal tradition of erecting majestic mausoleums in memory of Royal members found its culmination in the Taj’s majestic form. The Humayun’s tomb built in 1562 was a major influence over Taj’s design (the tomb of the Mughal Emperor Humayun in Delhi, India; The first garden-tomb on the Indian subcontinent).
The Story of the Taj Mahal
Shah Jahan ruled at the peak of Mughal power and commissioned the Taj Mahal to be built as a mausoleum for his third, and favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal, who died tragically after the birth of their 14th child. (It would also, later, house his body). Legend has it that she bound him with a deathbed promise to build her the most beautiful tomb ever known.
𐰸 The Centotaph of Emperor Jahan and his wife Mumtaz 𐰸 (*centotaph-- a monument to someone buried elsewhere, especially one commemorating people who died in a war.)
Tumblr media
To this end, he set about building a monument of such grand stature, dedicated to his greatest love, his wife. Shah Jahan poured his passion and wealth into the creation of just such a monument, overseeing the design and construction of the palace personally, taking great care to participate in nearly every aspect of the building's construction. While historians know that Shah Jahan was very interested in architecture, he could not have designed the building himself — it was almost certainly designed by a team of world-class professionals, and that could be one of the reasons why their names are lost to history while Shah Jahan's remains most closely tied to the mausoleum.
The Taj Mahal suffered from neglect and disrepair in the two centuries after Shah Jahan’s death (He died in 1666.) Near the turn of the 19th century, Lord Curzon, then British viceroy of India, ordered a major restoration of the mausoleum complex as part of a colonial effort to preserve India’s artistic and cultural heritage.
So Who Designed It?
The official Mughal histories account for 37 designers and architects who would have been able to contribute to the Taj Mahal commission for Shah Jahan. The person who most likely played the role of the chief architect was Ustad Ahmad from Lahore, an Indian of Persian descent who was credited with designing the Red Fort in Delhi. Modern historians tend to agree that the Taj Mahal was a collaborative effort; for example, the famous Turkish dome-builder Ismaili Afandi probably played a role, along with Amanat Khan from Shiraz, the master calligrapher whose signature graces the Taj Mahal's gateway.
With a team like this, it's likely that Shah Jahan acted as something more along the lines of an artistic director, gathering various world-renowned experts and giving them specific tasks to perform according to his own project schedule. More than 20,000 workers from throughout India, Europe, Persia, and the Ottoman Empire contributed to the construction of the Taj Mahal, alongside 1,000 elephants performing heavy lifting duties. Whether or not one person designed it, the final product was certainly a group effort.

Tumblr media
Did you know? According to one gruesome (and most likely sensational) story, Shah Jahan had his minions cut off the hands of the Taj Mahal's architects and workers after the structure was completed, ensuring they would never build another of its kind.

What is the History of the Internet
Tumblr media
In this paper I'll cover the internet’s experimental onsets, the commercialization of this technology in the present, and what the design that's taking What Is The Internet in Hindi  place that will presumably be the future of the internet.
Before I begin talking about the internet, Blog Par Traffic Kaise Badahye allow me to define what's the internet, who governs it, and what's the fiscal impact of this technology. The internet is made up of all computer networks that use IP protocol, which operate to form a flawless network for their collaborative druggies.( 3 Krol) This means that civil, marketable, What Is Website In Hindi  and institutional networks all compose corridor of the internet. This network is connected to each other by either telephone cables, string lines, or satellite signals. These cables, lines, or signals are also pipelined from garçon computer to garçon computer until your host garçon transmits the electronic information into your computer. The governing body of the internet is the Internet Society( ISOC).( 4 Krol) The Internet Society purpose, according to Ed Krol, is to “ promote global information exchange through Internet technology ”. Another governing body is the Internet Architecture Board( IAB).( 5 Krol)
This IAB board governs the protocol norms whereby how computers and software operations talk to each other.( 6 ibid) They also make the rules on how to keep track of each 32- bit address number used by each computer on the internet. The Internet Engineering Task Force( IETF) is the governing body who takes care of functional and near- tearm specialized problems of the internet.( 7 ibid)
Along with all conveniences, there's a price to pay. Though information could be attained from the internet for free, everyone has to pay for their own access to it. Just like NSF pays for NSFNET and NASA pays for NASA Science Internet, individualities pay their Internet Service Provider and their telephone company for access to the internet.( 8 ibid) As Ed Krol in said in The Whole Internet stoner’s companion, ” everyone pays for their part. ”
The internet, just like the light bulb and the aeroplane
, started out as an idea. In August 1962, a experimenter at MIT by the name ofJ.C.R. Licklider wrote a series of memos that outlined a “ Galactic Network ” of connected computers whereby everyone could snappily pierce information and programs from any point.( 9 Leiner) Another experimenter at MIT, Leonard Kleinrock, published a paper in July 1961 that would make communication on the internet more doable.( 10 ibid) Kleinrock’s paper on the packet switching proposition convinced MIT experimenter Lawrence Roberts to set up an trial that involved connecting a TX- 2 computer at MIT to a AN/ FSQ- 32 computer at System DevelopmentCorp. at Santa Monica, California.( 11 ibid) This trial redounded in the first computer network ever erected.( 12 ibid) In 1966 Roberts took his computer network moxie to theU.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency( DARPA) and snappily put together a plan for an “ ARPANET ”. During the perpetration of this plan, Leonard Kleinrock’s proposition of packet switching was put into practice by the development of crucial factors called Interface Message Processors( IMPs).( 13 ibid)
The impact of this development led to the assembly of the ARPANET. The first point chosen to apply the ARPANET is the Network Measurement Center at UCLA.( 14 ibid) This was made possible by the installation of the first IMP and the first host computer at UCLA in September 1969.( 15 ibid) also latterly, the Stanford Research Institute, the University of California Santa Barbara, and the University of Utah were added to the morning of the ARPANET.( 16 Zakon) In October 1972, the ARPANET was successfully demonstrated at the International Computer Communication Conference( ICCC).( 17 Leiner) It's this ARPANET that grew into what we know as the Internet.( 18 Leiner)
Two different developments came from the ARPANET the Transmission Control Protocol/ Internet Protocol( TCP/ IP) and electronic correspondence.( 19 ibid) These developments laid the root for the commercialization of internet technology. In the early 1980’s, marketable inventors of internet technology were incorporating TCP/ IP into their products in order to network computers.( 20 ibid) These marketable inventors were shown in a 1985 factory organized by Dan Lynch and IAB how TCP/ IP worked and how it did n’t work. By September 1988, a trade show called Interop was organized to show how well each inventor’s internet product worked with other inventors products.( 21 ibid) This trade show was important because demonstrated web cybersurfers, webpages, and other network interactive material developed by different companies have the capability to interact with each other.
In 1990, “ The World ” was the first marketable provider of Internet dial- up access.( 22 Zakon) Other companies similar as CompuServe, Prodigy, America Online and others soon followed. These services allowed anybody with a computer and a modem to have access to the internet. According to Vint Cerf, an internet experimenter now at MCI WorldCom, the internet has grown to include some,000 networks in over three dozen countries, serving over,000 host computers used by 4 million people by the end of 1991.

Tantric Massage - Should You Have A Tantric Massage in London?
Allow yourself to imagine a scene of having a soothing massage on your whole body. The gentle, flowing strokes of your therapist's hands calm and relieve the tension of your muscles. You then probably start to drowse a bit, just because of the simple pleasure of the massage itself. Isn't it a wonderful and pleasant feeling?
Now fantasize yourself having a tantric massage. What do you feel now? Do you feel aroused? Do you feel your heart races and there's a little bit of tingling sensation down your groin?
Why do you feel that? Is it because the combination of the word tantric and massage produces images that excite you sexually? It is most probably so. Now let me ask you this:
Are you familiar with London? Yes, that bustling, capital city of England. The home of more than 7,556,900 people. A city of arts, commerce, education, and entertainment. Do you also know that the number of massage parlors in London is growing considerably? Some even provide tantric massage. Of course, the next question I would like to ask you then is:
When you are happen to be in London and in need of a massage, the big question is - should you have that kind of massage?
I believe the answer to that question lies in yet another question - Have you ever explored London's finest travel destinations?
Let me take you on an imaginary tour and help you conclude this whole "take-or-not-to-take" massage thing. Each destination of the tour is an analogy to the piece of information on tantric massage, and you should be able to make up your mind of getting (or not getting one) a massage by the end of this article.
Let us begin our imaginary tour right away!
1) British Museum Tour - What is Tantric Massage?
The British Museum is our first destination. The museum itself is all about discoveries, finding out the origin of something, and uncovering the unknown. It is about learning something new and embracing the feeling of excitement, from unearthing an alternative.
We're mostly afraid of something that we don't know. Therefore, we should begin by defining, what is exactly a tantric massage?
Tantric massage is (actually) just an ordinary massage. However, the Hindi scholars believe that if you are sexually satisfied and satiated then your well-being will be tremendously improved as well.
Tantra itself is often described as achieving personal growth by means of enjoyable existence. The massage, although does tend to cause orgasms, has the actual aim of connecting spirit with form. It is to embrace compassion and experience love through the beauty of the earth and all existence. It does not involve actual penetrative sex, but it does involve a full touching on the intimate organs.
2) Big Ben Tour - Why Should You Take One?
Once you understand the origin, let us proceed to visiting the Big Ben in London. The Big Ben has stood erected there for the longest of times. It is a symbol of power and longevity, a timeless vigor that constitutes greatness in someone's life. That is actually an analogy of why you should have a tantric massage in London.
Based on some renowned Hindi scholars, these are all the reasons why you should have a tantric massage:
a. It prolongs your length of life
b. It intensifies your sexual vitality
c. It helps you deal with frigidity or sexual unresponsiveness (yes, a couple can take one too!)
d. It helps cure your menstruation problem (needless to say, if you're a woman like me)
e. It excites production of antibodies and therefore, makes you healthier (which in turn -again- will prolong your life)
3) London Eye Tour - How Will You Feel After You Take One?
Our final destination is the London Eye, a magnificent 443-feet tall Ferris wheel from which you can set your eyes on the entire London area and catch a breathtaking view that will astound you greatly.
Now imagine yourself having one of those breathtaking feeling, feeling of wonderment, amazement, and pure ecstasy that is truly ineffable - no amount of words would be enough to describe it.
It is a one-of-a-kind, a heaven-on-earth experience without doubt. Now take that feeling and multiply it ten-times fold (okay, maybe I exaggerated a bit - two times fold will do ) and that's exactly how you will feel after you have your tantric massage in London.
That concludes our imaginary tour for today.
Should you have a tantric massage in London? Well, you now know what tantric massage is, you know what the benefits are, and you pretty much have a basic idea of how you will feel after you have one. Should you go for it?
I'd say definitely yes! To boldly go and have a blissful experience of tantric massage that's out of this world, and to find out the details of the massage session, visit our website [https://www.aishamassage.com]

Paani Temple of Pandrethan
House Boat

54th Engineer’s Day - Engineers for Skill Development amid COVID
( *By Nagesh Chandra Mishra )
Today is 54th Engineer’s Day in India, being celebrated every year on 15th September to commemorate the Birth Anniversary of Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visveswaraya ( 1860-1962 ) .
1. The theme of Engineer’s day in India, this year, in
2021 is “ Engineers For SKILL DEVELOPMENT & Employment to Combating COVID “ .
The key words of the above theme are : Engineers ; Skill Development; Employment; & Combating COVID .
Here , I am reminded of the following words of Alvin Toffler ,
“ One of the most highly developed SKILLS in contemporary Western Civilisation is DISSECTION: the split-up of problems into the smallest components. We are good at it .So good we often FORGET TO PUT THE PIECES TOGETHER AGAIN.
This SKILL is perhaps finely honed in science. There we not only ROUTINELY BREAK PROBLEMS down into bite-sized chunks and mini chunks , we then very often ISOLATE each one from its environment by means of a useful pick . We say “ CITERIS PARIBUS “ - all other things being equal. In this we can ignore the complex interaction between our problems & the rest of the universe. “
[ Alvin Toffler in Opening Remarks of the Book , ‘ORDER OUT OF CHAOS ‘ By Nobel laureate Ilya Prigogine & Stengers ]
When the august body of Institution of Engineers ( India ) have set the question paper to write , say , an essay on ‘VARSHA WRITU’ , I must stick to the topic ...rather than deviating to write an essay whimsically on ‘VASANT WRITU’ endangering myself to attract negative marking ( at 75th year of my age resonating with Amrit Mahotsav of India’s Independence, I am no longer an evergreen brilliant student as Rajendra Prasad to be honoured with decorated remarks, ‘examinee is better than the examiner’ on my answer sheet ! )
Seeking an unqualified apology from the Council of Management, Institution Of Engineers (India ) , it’s my earnest request to them to relook at the rationale behind selecting the theme every year in an ad hoc manner . Perhaps, they are still guided by the legacy of Lord Chelmsford who inaugurated IEI in 1920 rather than to be inspired by ‘father of our engineering fraternity’ , Sir M. Visveswaraya who provided us an appropriate compass suited to India’s needs through his magnum opus ‘RECONSTRUCTING INDIA’ ( published around the same time line , 1920 ) . Here are some instances of the past themes of IEI on which we deliberated during past years after years. Such practices may fulfil our routine duties merely as event managers rather than serving any meaningful Engineering purpose barring some exceptions.
Yes, Music & Dances , Cultural Programs , Good Food & Laughter with Exchanging pleasantries on Engineer’s Day Celebration MUST BE essential for recharging our body , mind & soul . Looking back on Themes in
2020 was “Engineers For Self-reliant India” ;
2019 was “Engineering For Change” ;
2018 was “The Challenges of Engineering in the Age of Knowledge” ;
2017 was “The role of engineers in an emerging India” ;
2016 was “Developing the Qualification of Young Engineers to Reform the Main Sector: Vision 2025”;
2015 was “The challenges of engineering in the era of knowledge” ;
2014 was “Making the world-class Indian genius” ;
2013 was “Frugal Engineering – Reaching More with Less Resources” ;
2012 focused on technical preparedness for disaster mitigation ;
2011 was “Engineering Preparation for Disaster Mitigation” ;
2010 was “Future Paradigm Shift in Engineering and Challenges Ahead” ;
2009 was “Green is the theme of this year” ;
...............................so on & so forth ........dating back from 1967 since the year Engineer’s Day Celebration was begun.
I don’t know about the outcome, recommendations of deliberations at hundreds of local Centres sent to Headquarters & to various Govts in Power for taking subsequent actions by them to enhance the serious concerns of Engineering Fraternity.
1. Reverting back to the theme of 2021 , let’s know the origin of the word , ‘ENGINEER’ & ‘SKILL’ . These two words are complementary to each other. What is an Engineer ? Let’s ask ourselves with the true spirit of the following lines of Mirza Ghalib :
har ek baat pe kahte ho tum ki tū kyā hai tumhīñ kaho ki ye andāz-e-guftugū kyā hai
( “ हर एक बात पे कहते हो तुम कक तू क्या है
तुम्ह ीं कहो कक ये अींदाज़-ए-गुफ़्तुगू क्या है“ )
And ...then... by Invoking Sir M. Visveswaraya , his spirit would instantly guide ...echoing through the next lines of Mirza Ghalib :
ragoñ meñ dauḌte phirne ke ham nahīñ qaa.il jab aañkh hī se na Tapkā to phir lahū kyā hai
“ रगोींमें दौड़ते किरने के हम नहहींकायल
जब आँख हह से न टपका तो किर लहू क्या है “
Sir MV’s brilliance was unexceptional - limited not only to ‘technical’ competence of an ‘engineer’ - as being perceived by today’s generation of politicians, administrators , common man & other professionals . Sir MV was a divine towering personality possessing the finest quality of a Statesman, a visionary, an administrator , an economist & a planner who sowed the seed & vision
of Planned Economy that laid the foundation of Planning Commission ( rechristened by Modi Government as NITI AAYOG in1914 ) .
Not only Mahatma Gandhi or Pandit Nehru sought Sir MV’s advice on important occasions..but..royal kings & rulers , great leaders & eminent industrialists , professionals from all walks of life in India & developed nations solicited his invaluable guidance till he was alive .
I am pained to find ...that...our own Engineering Fraternity , by & large , have ‘bonsai’ed their unlimited capabilities reducing themselves to become ‘HMV’s of their mediocre bosses .
Lord Hanuman didn’t realise what wonders he can do till Jamwant awakened him to realise his real divine power .
In the following paragraph, I would try to illustrate the real meaning of the word , “ENGINEER” co-relating with “SKILL” as depicted in scriptures & archeological evidences . May this motivate our all friends.
The word “ENGINEER” has Latin Root. It is derived from the Latin word , INGENIARE ( meaning : to create , generate , contrive , devise ) & INGENIUM ( cleverness) .
GENE : ( to create , to invent , or ..bring forth )
From the Proto - Indo - European ( PIE ) & RIGVEDA scriptures dating back to [ 4500 to 2500 BC ] , the above meaning of INGENIARE holds true.
According to Encyclopaedia Britannica , first recorded “Engineer “ was Imhotep who designed Step Pyramid at Saqqarah , Cairo ( 2750 - 2656 BC )
: erected some time around 2550 BC.
From the findings & records of Indus Valley Civilisation, Bronze Age , South Asia ( 3300 BCE - 1300 BCE ) , we do have evidences of Engineer’s Brilliant inventing capabilities.
[ Source : Wikipedia ]
3) An Engineer , after reassuring oneself with his or her enormous professional capabilities to think , invent & create anything ....must have gained self esteem to exactly know what is meant by SKILL DEVELOPMENT.
From the bookish knowledge of Skill Development ( as brilliantly portrayed in the Hindi Movie, “ 3 IDIOTS “ ,
Skill is the learned ability to perform an action with determined results with good execution often within a given amount of time , energy or both.
These are described as Hard Skills ; Soft Skills ; Life Skills ; People Skills ; Social Skills ; Holistic competencies etc.
Holistic Competence of SKILL DEVELOPMENT is defined in the following Sanskrit Shloka ( Subhashitani ) :
“ अमन्त्रं अक्षरं नास्ति
नास्ति मूलं न औषधम् ।
अयोग्य: पुरूषं नास्ति योजकित्र दुललभम् ।।”
Amantram Aksharam Naasti Naasti Moolam Na Aushadham Ayogyah Purusho Naasti Yojakastatr Durlabham
Meaning thereby :
No Alphabet Is Without some capability to form Mantra ; No Root or Shrub Is Without some medicinal Qualities ; NO PERSON IS INCOMPETENT
RARE IS AN INGENIARE
TO UTILISE EVERY RESOURCE OPTIMALLY.
Amid Covid-19, it’s the rare caliber of Engineers due to which Development Wheel of The Nation is moving against heavy odds .
May it be ONLINE Classes or Offices ; or Power Generation; Essential Services like Water Supply , Health & Hygiene or COVIN App for Vaccinations ; or 2g to 5G Connectivity or any Logistics in Hospitals , Banks or at other places ; Rail , Roads , Air, Transportation; Feeding & distributing Direct Benefit Transfers ( DBT ) to needy bottom billions of our society residing in urban or rural areas , Revenue Collection , Direct Taxes ; GST ; Communication or Employment Generation etc. etc. etc. —— ‘Jahan Dekhiyega Hamen Paaiyega ‘ — Everywhere behind these services, ENGINEERS are serving Aadhars behind every economic activity in the country.
In spite of all that , it’s sad that ....Engineers’ due is yet to be recognised by any Government in Power unless they choose to wear another cap as bureaucrats inducting themselves through Civil Services Examination or fight an election to become MLAs / MPs & Ministers .
In India , generally speaking, a Teacher or a Doctor of excellence has to wear additional cap of some important constitutional post , only then their Birth Anniversary would be celebrated as Teacher’s Day or Doctor’s Day . Perhaps, BharatRatna Sir Mokshgundam Visveswaraya was an exception whose birthday is celebrated as Engineer’s Day .
On this auspicious day , I urge the Political Masters , specially, Hon. Prime Minister of India , to compulsorily include these three books authored by BharatRatna Sir M . Visveswaraya viz. “PLANNED ECONOMY”; “RECONSTRUCTING INDIA” & “MEMOIRS OF MY WORKING LIFE” in the curriculum of all Universities at Graduation levels under New Education Policy ( NEP ) & renaming the NITI AAYOG as VISVESWARAYA AAYOG inducting the Vice Chairperson, Member Secretaries & Members’ Posts from amongst the Brilliant Minds selected from the panels of TOP 10 Ranked Institutions of India for inculcating a fervour of meritorious & Innovative Policy needed for AATMANIRBHAR BHARAT .
Paying my rich tributes to immortal soul of Sir MV on his Birth Anniversary , I greet all Engineer brothers and sisters with the following two lines of Mirza Ghalib...at this end :
“रहह न ताकत-ए-गुफ़्तार और अगर हो भह तो ककस उमहद पे ककहए कक आरज़ू क्या है “

Heart of London Business Alliance today revealed the latest statue to join Leicester Square’s ‘Scenes in the Square’ movie statue trail will be of the king of romance, Shah Rukh Khan, alongside his co-star Kajol, from their film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. This will be the first-ever long-term Bollywood statue erected in the UK. The announcement, thus, marks the 25th anniversary of Indian cinema’s most loved film, DDLJ, and also coincides with the big 50th year celebrations of Yash Raj Films.
  Written and directed by debutant Aditya Chopra, DDLJ shattered all box office records and is one of the biggest all-time blockbusters in the history of Hindi cinema. It also went on to become the longest-running Hindi film of all time! DDLJ is also the winner of a record-breaking (at the time) 10 Filmfare Awards and the film literally changed the face of Bollywood globally.
The film was made at a budget of Rs. 4 crores and the blockbuster, in 1995, collected Rs. 89 crore in India, Rs. 13.50 crore in overseas markets. Thus, total collections stood at Rs. 102.50 crore worldwide in 1995! In today’s inflation-adjusted value, DDLJ’s collection stands at a staggering 455 crore in India and Rs. 69 crore in overseas territories, taking the total worldwide collections to a phenomenal Rs. 524 crore!
DDLJ, often dubbed the Romeo & Juliet of Bollywood cinema, is about two non-resident Indians, Raj and Simran, and their star-crossed love story across Europe and India, beginning on a train from King’s Cross Station. The statue is set to be unveiled in Spring 2021 when organisers hope that its stars Khan and Kajol will be able to travel to unveil the statue in a special celebratory event.
The location couldn’t be more fitting, as Leicester Square featured in DDLJ in a scene when Raj and Simran first cross paths, albeit unbeknown to one another. Fittingly, the scene features two of the square’s cinemas prominently, with Raj seen in front of the Vue cinema, and Simran walking past the Odeon Leicester Square. The new statue will be positioned along the eastern terrace, outside the Odeon cinema, honouring this scene. Other London locations featured in the film include Horseguards Avenue, Hyde Park, Tower Bridge and King’s Cross Station.
The statue will join nine other film icons from the past 100 years, eight of which were unveiled in late February and recently granted longer-term residency by Westminster Council to remain in Leicester Square until at least July 2023. In September a statue of Harry Potter also joined the original line up, while visitors can still encounter Laurel & Hardy, Bugs Bunny, Gene Kelly in Singin’ in the Rain, Mary Poppins, Mr. Bean, Paddington, and iconic DC Super-Heroes Batman and Wonder Woman.
Mark Williams, Director of Destination Marketing at Heart of London Business Alliance, says, “It’s fantastic to be adding such titans of international cinema to our trail as Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is one of the most successful and important Bollywood films of all time, and it’s exciting to be able to bring to the trail the first film that actually features Leicester Square as a location. This statue is a fitting tribute to the global popularity of Bollywood and the cultural bridges that cinema can help build, and we’re in no doubt it will attract fans from all around the world.”
Avtar Panesar, Vice President of Special Projects at Yash Raj Films, added, “When Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge was released 25 years ago, it changed the face of the industry and captured the hearts of everyone who saw it. We’re thrilled to be able to announce this statue, and to be the first film of Indian origin to be represented in ‘Scenes in the Square’. We are honoured that these Bollywood superstars have been recognized alongside the Hollywood elite, from Gene Kelly to Laurel & Hardy, and this is a great way to express the international appeal of cinema.”
