[Monthly Log] - #1 : January 2025
And here we are with the first monthly log, the first of a hopefully long series. This post serves as a recap of what was accomplished during the month in question, as well as planning for the month ahead. For readability reasons, this information will be divided into several categories.
#1 - Subjects of Interest
I decided it would be good to keep track of my hyperfixations, whether they lasted the entire month or not.
For January, the so-called hyperfixations or subjects of interest remained particularly stable. The biggest and most lasting one has undoubtedly been Food History and, more generally, everything about food and meals.
In the same vein, I had a fairly strong interest in plants, particularly through the prism of herbalism, herbal medicine and traditional/grandmother's remedies. Towards the end of the month, although it could not be fully explored due to lack of time, this interest turned to the history of medicine and diseases.
This interest in medicine also put me back on the path of a somewhat neglected personal interest, the history of sexuality and prostitution, particularly through the prism of hygiene, sexual health and sex education.
#2 - Work In Progress
Quite honestly, most of what I have is a Work In Progress. Worldbuilding an entire world is not something you can do in a few days, unless you're God or something.
The vast majority of my work in January involved organizing, reorganizing and synthesizing previously existing notes in various documents, in order to easily access the necessary information. I have four years worth of jotted down and hastily written notes scattered across various supports, both physical and digital, all requiring proofreading and logical connections with each other.
I also took the opportunity to add new notes related to my current topics of interest, which allows me to answer questions left pending or to resolve old blockages.
Some work was also done on the maps during the month of January, the vast majority progressing very slowly due to being extremely time-consuming.
Maintaining this blog and creating content is also very time-consuming, hence the sparsity of the posts at the moment. January was essential to get the machine going, now it's a matter of keeping it moving and continuing to produce content that is properly formatted and understandable by people other than me.
#3 - Completed Works
In terms of completed work, I don't have much to show yet, except for a few maps. Most of them have not yet been posted on this blog, except for my Political Map of Erasde, showing the various political entities within my world.
The excerpts I write every Friday as part of the Flash Fiction Friday Challenge can also be considered complete works. Each excerpt can be read independently and offers fragments of lore about the world, while allowing to showcase the characters who evolve there. However, I would recommend reading the compilation available on AO3, as it is augmented with explanatory notes regarding the setting of the extracts and the specific vocabulary used within the text.
#4 - February Planning
The first goal I would like to achieve in February is to finish gathering all my scattered notes. I don't care much at the moment about their readability or whether they make sense or not, the main thing is that they are all available in a single place, so that I can start a more efficient work of sorting, connecting and rewriting them.
The second goal will be to finish taking notes about the books I borrowed from the library. The positive thing about working in a library is that I have first-hand access to an immense knowledge base. The negative thing is that unfortunately there is a limit to the time I have available and my energy level after a day of work. So, I now forbid myself from borrowing any more books until I have finished going through those already in my possession, in order to avoid hoarding piles even higher than those already piling up on my floor.
The third goal would be to continue working on my maps, even slowly, in order to finally have the working bases necessary to establish logical and realistic links between said maps and the lore still under construction.
Finally, the last goal is related to my current attempt at learning to draw. I have started to make a list of things I would like to illustrate, varying themes, subjects and degrees of difficulty. Before the end of the month, I would like to have at least three of my drawings completed and posted on this blog.

The Project
Erasde is a somewhat grandiose, reckless and undoubtedly slightly crazy project of worldbuilding a world in its entirety, from its broadest lines to its most insignificant details.
This project is a worldbuilding project, not a novel project. The world does not exist to showcase the characters and their stories. Rather, the characters exist for the sole benefit of the world. Therefore, this blog will mainly focus on presenting the world itself, as well as how I went about building it.
