a list of my favorite albums
my music taste is a little embarrassing but it’s time i start owning that
dangerous woman - ariana grande
—— and the thing is everyone hates this album and calls it her worse but i think this was her best sound... it suited her very well. the stand out tracks IMO: moonlight, dangerous woman, into you, greedy, sometimes, touch it, thinking bout you. <- she really needs more songs like thinking bout you, absolutely impeccable. but anyways, not her peak musically but definitely a good ass album
the dream chapter : eternity - txt
—— AYOOO!!! i am definitely way more into dark concepts and this ep from txt was everything to me. i love the direction can’t you see me took and they ate it. i saw a lot of people saying seeing them take a concept like puma was odd but when they have their rv bad boy era y’all gonna take that back.. anyways. best tracks: can’t you see me, FAIRY OF SHAMPOO!!!, eternally. fairy of shampoo literally might be their best yet.
folklore - taylor swift
—— i shit my pants every time i hear this album. absolutely amazing.. something that always draws me to taylor is her songwriting obviously, and in this album in particular.. the take on different stories and perspectives was kind of everything and i was huge fan of it. at the first listen i loved it so damn bad and it hasn’t lost that magic to me. album of the year IMO! best tracks: cardigan, seven, epiphany, betty. cardigan is so beautifully made, same with seven. they make me cry like a little piss baby everytime i hear them. can’t explain how good they are...
golden hour - kacey musgraves
—— what can i say. like what can i say. it’s so good and hasn’t aged a day. i may not listen to every single track often but there isn’t one that’s objectively bad. the whole concept and sound of the album is very smooth and beautiful To Me. i enjoy a good little golden hour every now and then... best tracks: oh what a world, space cowboy, happy & sad, golden hour. happy & sad is so so good and for what. the chorus makes me cry sometimes.. i also occasionally cry to oh what a world but that’s my business. special mention is rainbow, that’s one hell of a song babe.
love yourself : tear - bts
—— oh nelly. ahah... like i said, i love darker concepts so of course this one grinds my gears. from top to bottom start to finish this is flawless and is one of their best yet i can’t even lie. fake love is one of my favorite songs from them ever and never gets old. Amazing amazing amazing. best tracks: fake love, the truth untold, 134340, outro : tear. everyone loves to shit on 134340’s name and for what. she’s beautiful.. the lyrics the chorus the rap verses the bgv COME ON!!!!!! so damn good. never ages. my favorite bts album.
perfect velvet - red velvet
—— no lie was told when this was named the ultimate girl group album. like dark concepts, i eat the shit out of their velvet concepts .. peek a boo was everything i could have asked for and they ate it up. what other girl group is killing pizza men for sport and holding rituals answer me quickly. as god once uttered, red velvet best idol group alive, but that’s a conversation for another time. this album has a nice blend of a little retro, soft harmonious songs & songs i’d shake my ass too in a cornmaze. seriously flawless. best tracks: i just & kingdom come (ofc). both never get old, they have to be some of the best songs i’ve ever heard. god bless
rookie - red velvet
—— i don’t give a fuck how you feel about rookie as a song, this ep is so damn good. rookie is definitely a little wack but i think it’s good.. what i love about red velvet is the funky concepts they can pull off and still make it bang, if that makes any sense. they not only ate the shit out of rookie and its choreography, but the bsides have to be some of their best. while it’s a red album, it isn’t one note and takes different turns without straying too far from rookie’s original sound which is cool.. To me. best tracks: little little & body talk. body talk has to be one of my all time faves from them, it was revolutionary..
speak now - taylor swift
—— next to folklore this is my favorite taylor album. i have several severe emotional attachments to this album that have transcended years.. i grew up with dis album 😢. i don’t even know what to say other than this album is my baby. best tracks: back to december, never grow up, enchanted, innocent, long live. innocent and never grow up have always made me bawl like a baby.. one time i wrote an anaylsis on never grow up for my sociology class but that’s a tale for another time.. i also have a strong attachment to long live. just such a good album that i’ll always come back to
the reve festival : finale - red velvet
—— now here’s the damn thing. especially repacked with the other festival songs, this is a masterpiece. don’t even get me started on psycho. that is song of the year and nothing will ever change my mind. i can’t believe it’s already been almost a year, i miss them :(.. anyway though. i have no words, but definitely my favorite album from the trilogy. best tracks: psycho, REMEMBER FOREVER!! i love remember forever so bad it’s unreal. it mentally takes me to another dimension every single time.. it reminds me how bad i love them but anyway Lmfaoo. timeless era that i’ll always look back on fondly. ot5 come back to me
wings - bts
—— ahhhhh... i found bts during this era so i’m very emotionally attached to wings. i love the dark kinda elegant (? idk what word to use...) concept they went for. blood sweat and tears was definitely a revolution and has stuck with me for the past 4 years .. best tracks: blood sweat & tears, begin, lie. jimin bodied the hell out of lie idc. it’s dramatic it’s bold it’s powerful it’s... beautiful. i always go back to his blindfolded performance of it on mama 2016.. it’s so good. him and hobi ate that whole intro up and reminds me how good wings is. tear and wings are the embodiment of the concepts i really love so obviously these make it into my favorite albums. :3 hehe..
my entire personality and life revolves around making myself go deaf via headphone and loving music so i had to offer my 2 cents on albums i think are amazing. and until next time..
not like anybody cares for my opinion but like i said i literally don’t have any other prominent personality traits so i may or may not post music reviews/thoughts like this on here for purely my own enjoyment and nobody else’s. i like to talk on the internet. thank you and good evening

album review #1 - the reve festival: day 1
Tumblr media
red velvet’s sixth ep - the reve festival: day 1
ahh, the infamous start of the reve festival trilogy. this album sparked interest in many with its enticing title track ‘zimalabim’. with only 6 tracks making up about 20 minutes, the album has gotten some mixed reviews ever since it was released.
track 1 - zimzalabim
oh, zimzalabim, people don’t seem to appreciate your greatness. the song starts off with a peculiar introduction. the mix of instruments is something i’ve never heard before. it’s so thrilling and suspenseful, the bell ringing while you wait in anticipation. red velvet definitely made their point across with this carnival/circus concept because this song sounds exactly like a song you’d hear at a festival. the thing i love the most about red velvet other than their versatility is the fact that all of their voices seem to be in harmony in every song. it’s like they were sculpted to fit one another. now the chorus,,, is something you wouldn’t expect. many people have described it as ‘cult-like’ (the lyrics suggest something of that sort as well,,,,) or ‘repetitive’, but i believe it’s perfect for this type of song. a part i want to highlight is the bridge of zzb. it’s so,, mystical and harmonious. it’s such a big change from the original song, but it works fantastically well. everything about it is *chef’s kiss*. the lyrics are also something that should be noted,
“Look at your eyes filled with hope (They're shining like a gem) Oh don't wander aimlessly so far away (You're dazzling, smile more brightly) The dream is inside you.”
irene and yeri’s harmonization,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, extraordinary <3
over all, this song is one of their best songs because of its creativity and just how well everything flows despite being a bit messy.
i’d give it a 9.5/10
track 2 - sunny side up!
sunny side up! is undoubtedly one of red velvet’s best b-sides to date. its reggae themes bring me back to a time that never existed. the chorus is the highlight of this whole song, with red velvet singing in unison as the hypnotizing instrumental plays in the back. sunny side up stages>>>>>> yeri and wendy carried this song imo,,,
10/10 for sure, nuff said
track 3 - milkshake
this song went viral a while back for its questionable lyrics. aha, i’ll let you be the judge of that. words cannot explain my love for this song. it’s heavily vocally focused and gives each girl a time to shine. i definitely think wendy shines in this song, especially around the beginning. it’s so sexy and chill without trying to be. heaven,,,, milkshake’s chorus is so addicting and flows so nicely. one thing red velvet does best is singing as a group. something i’ve noticed in their songs compared to other bands/groups is that red velvet never necessarily have solo parts in the chorus, they sing together. it definitely shows their chemistry musically.
a DESEVERED 10/10
track 4 - bing bing
this album is CRAZY good. i physically dance every time i listen to this song because it’s so electrifying. it reminds me of some type of 2000s hit. if you’re into songs from that era you’ll understand what i’m talking about. it has this certain vibe to it. something comparable to the spice girls. let’s talk about seulgi in this song for a second,,,, her voice + this song = a match made in heaven. it’s also very different from traditional korean music,, i think it may have some afrocentric beats if i’m not mistaken.
9.5/10. red velvet has proven themselves worthy of being the best girl group ever
track 5 - parade
IM CRYING THIS SONG IS SO !!! it sounds like the ending to some type of upbeat tv show. it starts off slow but then eventually gets faster. i think this song captures everything the reve festival: day 1 album is. it’s optimistic and sounds extremely unique. if i had to choose, i’d choose parade for the catchiest song off the album. you can’t help but clap along to beat while listening to it.
easy 9/10. it is a crazily underrated red velvet b-side
track 6 - lp
miss wendy said this was her favorite song off the album for a reason !!! it seems as if they used elevator music for the beat which i LOVE ! super creative and sounds amazing. joy in this song>>>> her voice suits lp so well,, and the chorus is CRAZY. this is another song only red velvet can pull off. every reveluv will tell you that lp is one of red velvet’s best b-sides. i don’t make the rules :) it’s true ! ALSO !!!!!!!!! lp is SO well thought out. when it first starts, you hear generic elevator music, signifying that you have just entered the elevator. at the end of the song, we hear the music die down and there’s a ding signaling that you’ve arrived at your destination. it’s so clever because it’s also,,, tHE LAST SONG OFF OF THE ALBUM !
10/10 UNTIL THE DAY I DIE.
this is my favorite album for a reason, each song sounds so different, yet they tie in together so well. it’s a rollercoaster of emotions from the first song to the last. over all, i’d give this album a 10/10. it’s definitely one of the best albums red velvet have release TO DATE.
thank you all for reading, peace out.
                                                                        sincerely, aya <3

My Most Favorite KPop Releases for the 1st Half of 2019
It’s a blessing that Kpop continues to give us beautiful songs through various artists and through various genres, too. I’ve always wanted to share to people the songs/albums I’ve put on repeat so far this year since their release because: 1) got stuck on my head; and 2) it’s just too good; and 3) good music should be shared!
I will be separating these into three parts: Albums, Title tracks/singles, and B-sides. Note that if I love the whole album, I won’t be mentioning them again in the title track/singles or B-sides list, and vice versa. And this list is chronological, because I don’t want to have a hard time ranking them.
Disclaimer: This is a personal list, so if the album/song/artist you’re looking for isn’t here, it’s probably because I haven’t checked them out yet, or it hasn’t made much impact to me as much as the ones mentioned below.
Now, let me first discuss my favorite Kpop albums/mini-albums:
1.       ATEEZ – Ep.2 – ZERO TO ONE
ATEEZ is a relatively new Kpop group that I didn’t expect to have really good music. To be honest, every time they show up on my Youtube recommendations, I tend to not give it any attention because I thought they have a sound that I probably wouldn’t like. But when I see several reactors reacting to their songs, I tried listening to it and I WAS SHOOK OF HOW GOOD THEIR SONGS ARE. This album particularly is what caught my attention because of their title tracks and even the B-sides are great!
2.       HUTA (Lee Minhyuk) – HUTAZONE
BTOB’s Minhyuk proves that he is a well-rounded idol that should be greatly recognized. I still get chills how distinct his rapping voice is from his singing voice. If you are not fully familiar with Minhyuk and you listen to this album, you might think there’s a guy singing and another, rapping. But it’s just one person. I really love the title track YA and the B-sides Lonely and Waiting for You stood out to me the most.
3.       SEVENTEEN  - You Made My Dawn
Here comes the self-producing group SEVENTEEN dropping a mini-album full of bops. My hopes were already up since they released You Make My Day and they don’t disappoint! You can hear the versatility of SVT in every track, not just because of the unit songs. They’ve given different vibes and it’s ear-satisfying. Go listen to understand how I felt. Most favorites are Good to Me and title track Home.
4.       JUS2 – FOCUS
THE GOT7 UNIT I DIDN’T KNOW I NEEDED. If you’ve been a fan of GOT7 like me and subscribed to their Soundcloud accounts, you would know that JB and Yugyeom are R&B princes. And when these two joined forces, it’s a heavenly feeling. Imagine the sexiness of their voices, which are powerful yet chill, combined into an album! It’s definitely hypnotizing (Focus On Me, Touch, Long Black) and addictive (Drunk on You, Senses, Love Talk). It’s a reality that feels like a dream.
5.       Stray Kids – Clé1: MIROH
I’m not really a big fan of hiphop songs but there’s this element in Stray Kids’ songs that makes me anticipate for more. The Cle1: MIROH album signals a beginning of a new era in their journey but the meanings they convey in their songs just keep getting wider. The element I loved in this album is the complexity in the songs. Maze of Memories was the first to give a strong impression to me, because it feels like you’re listening to a song within a song. Chronosaurus also has this mysterious vibe. 19 is a laid-back track and I love the R&B sound here.
6.       PENTAGON – Genie:Us
THIS SHOULD HAVE EARNED THEM THEIR FIRST WIN. I have been a fan of Pentagon and their title tracks are really great. Sha la la is by far, their greatest title track. But if you listen further up to the last track of this album, you will fall in-love with the whole thing. Kino and Hui joining the rapline of the group for the song Lost Paradise is one of the best thing that happened to their discography. Feel-good song Alien kind of reminds me of their song Pretty Pretty, it’s just the beat is slowed down. In each album, they never forget to include a powerful ballad like Until That Moment (it’s been on repeat on my playlist) and fun-but-kinda-sad song Spring Time.
7.       BLACKPINK – KILL THIS LOVE
The unstoppable girl group! As I’ve always said, Blackpink may have very few comebacks but they make sure every comeback is high-quality. The girls also portrayed different vibes in this album. From Kill This Love with intense brass sounds, groovy dance tracks Don’t Know What To Do and Kick It, down the last track, a ballad named Hope Not–Blackpink surely know how to win our hearts with their songs.
8.       GOT7 – SPINNING TOP: Between Security & Insecurity
Every comeback these boys make always show improvement especially in the musical quality. The members of GOT7 have once again participated greatly in the compositions of the album. I love how they portrayed their personal insecurities through the album, incorporated them to the lyrics, and is depicted to the whole comeback concept. Eclipse it a great title track, but I am really curious of how it originally sounded when JYP haven’t made some polishing yet. I love how the album started strong with 1°. It immediately climbed up to my favorite GOT7 B-sides. End showed off the rapper’s cool vocal tone; Time Out has a bright sound and chill vibe; Believe, a hiphop/R&B song gives me a “Prove It” vibe; and Page is a party anthem.
9.       ATEEZ – Treasure Ep.3 - ONE TO ALL
ATEEZ once again proves that they do not run out of good songs to release through this album. They released two title tracks: ILLUSION and WAVE. This album gives off a chill and happy vibe unlike their previous releases and they pull it off in a great way. I really appreciate their vocals more in this album, and it really made me go ‘Hakuna Matata.’ I am also so proud of these boys for getting their first music show win through this comeback. Keep that great music coming, ATEEZ!
10.   SF9 – RPM
I have been following SF9 since debut, and in every album they release, there would always be an odd-one-out for my music taste. This is the first time I actually loved every song in SF9’s album. The title track gives off a signature SF9 sound, which is tough yet cool. Round and Round has cool sound elements and great vocals. Dreamer gives a dystopian-movie theme vibe. Liar is a great song with a chorus beat-drop that will almost leave you hanging but will satisfy your ears. See You Tomorrow is BEAUTIFUL. It’s the best SF9 B-side for me. Echo has a sound reminiscent of 2nd gen Kpop songs but with more electronic synths. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ALBUM TO EVERYONE. LISTEN TO THIS RIGHT NOW.
11.   Stray Kids – Clé2: Yellow Wood
This album wouldn’t have made it through this list since basically, it only has 3 new songs and a compilation of the previous mixtape tracks. But I have to put this here because those Mixtapes are OT9 versions of my favorite 3RACHA songs. (Note: 3RACHA is the rap line of Stray Kids: Chan, Changbin, and Han. They also produce their own group’s songs). MIxtape1 (Placebo) does not really go far from the original one and I really liked how the new sound fit every member. Mixtape2 (If there’s a Shadow, There’s a Light) became a really soft and soothing song. I expected the music will be changed since the 3RACHA track borrowed the instrumental of the song Far (멀어) by Primary, but I didn’t expected it to be almost mellow. Mixtape3 (For You) is my most favorite remake because the vocals really stood out, making the song more meaningful. Mixtape4 (Broken Compass) still gave off that strong feeling, but the richer sound of the song is evident.
This album especially the new tracks are perfect for parties. That’s all I can say for how big of a bop they are.
12.   CHUNGHA – Flourishing
Chungha came running through my playlist with her new album and all I can say is SHE’S AWESOME. She surprised me with her sweet vocals and great music. Snapping is a whole bop, as well as Flourishing. I love the ballad Call it Love, but my personal pick is Young in Love because of its fresh vibe. I haven’t actually kept track of her every release but starting now, I might. Maybe it’s safe to say that she is the next summer queen.
