A Tiktok comes across Eddie’s FYP of a girl saying that her toxic trait is that she fuels Tiktok drama by convincing her mom that their uptight neighbor down the street is her friend. She pans away from herself to Diane baking in her kitchen and says, “Mom, do you think the Munsons would like some gingerbread men?”
Eddie stitches the video with one of Steve stuffing his face with gingerbread men while mid-rant about the insinuation that he’s not taking care of his family and needs someone else to feed them. Also a little ableist to just assume that because Steve gets confused sometimes that he’s not baking for his husband. Eddie tells him that he doesn’t think that’s was her intention and Steve tells him to shut the fuck up, “I’m baking you a cake tomorrow.”

so aside from growing up on 'archie's weird mysteries', the archie comics, and the trailer. my first real interaction with riverdale was an edit to lana del rey's 'blue jeans'. and i was thoroughly convinced that it was a one-sided jughead/archie story overlaying the spooky shit. and i got to the end of season one before i realised how wrong i was. that's how long it took me. i really truly believed the whole thing was jughead as narrator talking abt this fucked up mystery while pining after his friend.

empire of death really is the quintessential doctor who episode:
fun beginning
tense but very interesting and atmospheric middle
ending that makes no sense
a beautiful emotional epilogue that's easily the best part of the episode
a confusing set up for the next season at the end

I am sick and tired of all of the edgy magical girl shows that try to subvert the magical girl genre. And I hate how popular they all are. It makes it a bit difficult to find other magical girl shows and books that aren’t dark and that I am actually interested in. Also a touch annoyed about all of the spin-offs to every single magical girl thing, the regular and dark ones. Makes it almost impossible to sift through things like MAL to find something new since it is all either the main shows or their sequels/prequels/movies/spin-offs/etc. Idk. I am also picky. Like I am not a fan of all shoujo tropes. So I want stuff that is different than the standard. But too much of the different is just the edgy stuff. Maybe like just a little more serious and “adult” but not where people are getting torn in half every five seconds with extremely depressing plot points.
Also doesn’t help that there is the continuing problem of manga and anime and licensing and access. Something too old is probably not streaming anywhere and there is a good chance that the physical copies are out of print. If they aren’t out of print they might be like $80 to get the whole series, which ain’t great if you don’t know if you are going to like it or not yet. And then the more obscure stuff just isn’t officially translated so that locks stuff out too.

Role model paradox
The problem with the lack/lack of access to inspiring male role models for young boys is that we can’t solve it for them.
It’s like how the health class video about the Evils of Alcohol had everyone at the Wild Teenager Party(TM) dressed as if they were going to church and showed nothing worse than some inconvenience and (maybe) getting in trouble for having a party (offscreen). The educational institution is not going to show anything that could get them angry letters from parents, even if the students are already in high school and at least some of them are already having sex and driving under the influence.
The kind of role model that parents and teachers would choose will probably seem crummy and manipulative to their kids. “Here, look at this sports star (who plays a boring sport and is older than your parents),” “Look at this kid sports star (who’s a complete goody-two-shoes because they wouldn’t put him on TV otherwise),” “Look at this handsome guy (who’s ugly),” or “Look at this historical/fictional figure (who either did everything the grownups told him and/or showed rebellion in a way that seems boring),” “Look at this genuinely good star of a kids’ TV show (that you outgrew two years ago and would get mocked mercilessly by your peers for talking about).”
The kids have to choose whom they admire, and anyone they pick is going to have some traits that the adults in their lives won’t like. They’ll disobey their parents. They’ll speak defiantly to teachers. They’ll skip school/go drinking/etc. and it’ll be shown as clever and good that they got away with it. I remember writing a children’s story as a program project. It was about two girls going hiking in the woods. They get lost and then find their way again. Pretty tame. My mom kept telling me “Have them say ‘we should have taken an adult with us.’” But then there would have been no point. Even Ramona Quimby got to walk to school by herself, make her own sandwiches, and pulled another kid’s hair once.
There was an early-nineties PSA about always wearing a bike helmet starring Michaelangelo the Ninja Turtle.  It had clearly been written by someone who’d never seen the cartoon. PSA Mikey was humble and polite. Humble and polite.  These writers did NOT understand what it was kids liked about the character.
