Trigger Warning: Discussion of rape

Smiffina Episodes - The Bill Episode 261
Wayne Radford's grave has been vandalised, it doesn't take a journalist to work out who has done it. The war is only just starting between the Radford's and Cox's. Gina has to visit Irene to tell her personally. Not long after, Jimmy Cross is gunned down in a drive by shooting...and Father Callum Stone Karl Radford is kicking off because he wants to get to clean the grave.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Smithy is due to see MIT in half an hour to report the accusation of rape against Gabriel. Andrea would rather he didn't do it. She says Kerry had 'lost the plot' over the last few months of her life and even accused Smithy of rape. Smithy says he can't live with himself if he doesn't at least have it investigated, he doesn't want to be responsible for a rapist working at the station. He promises her Gabriel won't know who reported him.
Unfortunately for her though, Andrea is seen by Gabriel speaking to Rowan...when Smithy tells him that MIT want to see him, he instantly looks towards Andrea.
Gina has spoken to Rowan and knows that Smithy has reported the accusation. He tries to bluff it out but she knows what he's up to. She accuses him of being jealous. Smithy rebukes it - and then she realises, he has at least thought about Gabriel being responsible for Kerry's murder. "What the hell is happening to you?" If only they knew...!
Gina's day keeps getting better... the gun that was used to shoot Jimmy Cross made the same marks on its bullet that the gun that shot Brian Thatcher, Rob's father, decades ago, in 1983. The Radford's father/husband shot him but his gun was never found and Len also died at the scene, shot by Brian. Jack Gaunt, the second man in the crime, was released from prison 2 weeks ago - it's assumed he got rid of the gun that Len Radford was carrying as it was never found... perhaps he stashed it somewhere and has found it and done the job for The Radford's?
Tumblr media
Well hello Daddy Radford.
[We don't get into the fact that the ages/age ranges/dates/age order of the brothers don't really work out for this storyline when it all comes out - shush. We pay too much attention to this show).
Rowan questions Gabriel again about the baby and how soon it appears Kerry fell pregnant into their 'relationship'. Gabriel makes out he and Kerry were together for four months in total so she fell pregnant a month into the 'relationship'. Rowan knows about the fight Gabriel and Cameron had - he claims it was because Cameron was jealous of them being together. Gabriel asks why there's so many questions - Rowan claims it's simply because more questions have arisen as they investigate the murder.
Ken has some unfortunate news for Gina. The breakthrough they thought they had isn't what they thought. Jack Gaunt is Jimmy Cross' uncle. The Radford's owe him for doing his time in prison and keeping quiet about what happened that night... they also never paid him for doing the job! That's the real reason it's all kicked off. It just so happens that there also is a video tape of the robbery filmed by a man whos wife had just given birth so he was filming her and the baby - and then heard gunshots so filmed what happened outside - including Rob's father getting shot. (it's super dooper clear for video and 1983 tech... shush!) In the video, Gaunt is only shown with one gun, he doesn't seem like he stops for Len's...
As they continue to delve, there's a statement that's turned up from one of the boxes of a PC Walker who swears he saw a teenager wearing a balaclava just like the other two. He says the teen was bent over Len Radford when he arrived and that the teen fired the shot into Brian Thatcher and then ran off into the hospital. Only the one PC says they saw the other person and there is no sighting of them on the video. Ken claims the flying squad would have 'accidentally' lost the statement as they wanted someone to blame for who shot their man.
Gabriel goes to speak to Smithy to ask if there's been any update from MIT. Smithy pauses to think and then says that he 'shouldn't be doing this' but Andrea came to him to make an allegation against him and asked for his advice. He says she then apparently ignored it and went to MIT anyway. Gabriel asks what the allegation is, and Smithy tells him the truth - about that anyway (!). Smithy makes out he's telling Gabriel because he's 'been there himself' and knows what it's like to have a false rape claim made about you. Gabriel thanks him, saying it's good to know who your friends are. Also there's a plug socket behind Smithy that has no plug in it but it's turned on. It's more entertaining than Gabriel. Even Smithy's pondering it in the cap
Tumblr media
Rob happens upon the incident room where the murder of his father and Len are all plotted out... thankfully he's disturbed before he can view the video.
Gabriel confronts Andrea and tells her that he knows about her allegation and that 'it's fine' and 'she did the right thing' but for the record it's not true' before walking off. Andrea reports to Smithy and tells him he knows. Smithy says it was him that told him, because he wants him to play the same games with Andrea that he did with Kerry - with Smithy's protection so that no harm can come to her. He wants to have the evidence against Gabriel. Andrea tells him he's as bad as Gabriel is.
The enhanced video of the crime scene where Len Radford and Brian Thatcher were shot has returned and given a surprise to Gina...
Tumblr media
It's not a teen boy... could Irene have been the one who shot Brian Thatcher all that time ago?

JJK 261 ANALYSIS: What happened, how, why Yuuta made the choice he did, and a discussion of tragedy & major themes of JJK
MAJOR spoilers below the cut so please read at your risk.
i wanted to dissect what happened a bit, and address a few points i saw floating around since the leaks dropped. of course, these are all my interpretations, so feel free to disagree, i just had a lot of thoughts floating around that i wanted to put out for discussion.
I. Gojo was never coming back
first of all, i don't know how you guys expected him to survive bisection. i said this earlier in the day as my justification for why i didn't think gojo was coming back, prior to leaks, and i don't think i can say it any better now.
Tumblr media
and this is just my interpretation of reverse curse technique, but if anything, yuuta in this chapter supports my theory. in the scene where he's on shoko's table and arata nitta says that he's used rct to keep the wounds from getting worse, but it might be too late for yuuta to recover. in that case, gojo wasn't coming back from being sliced in half. it's just not possible.
additionally, and this is another thing that i've said for a long time. he says right in episode 6 (i forgot the chapter) that his dream is to reset the jujutsu world raise up a generation of strong students that work together. that is why he became a teacher. this very clearly comes from his relationship with suguru, and it's one of gojo's clearest motivations from the beginning.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the problem is, in order to achieve this, he has to die. so long as satoru gojo is alive, he will have to carry the burden of being the strongest alone. his students won't have to work together, because gojo will just take care of everything. this is already in the works, with how many people have come together to stand against sukuna. if gojo lived and defeated sukuna on his own, this wouldn't have happened, and bringing him back would, again, reduce the need for his students work together.
unfortunately, gojo has been doomed by the narrative from the start, and his primary goal as a character basically requires his death to be realized in its entirety.
II. They're not heroes, they're jujutsu sorcerers.
yeah, i'm stealing megumi's line because it's true. he literally said it twice for a reason, and then yuuta said a repackaged version of it in this chapter ("we're about to fight history's strongest jujutsu sorcerer. if we can win by throwing away our humanity, we shouldn't even be arguing about this").
trust, all the characters are well aware of the ethical issues with taking gojo's body after he's dead, both with what it means for gojo, and with what it means for yuuta. but this isn't a story about heroism, this isn't a story about the power of friendship. if it was, yuuji would have saved junpei all the way back at the beginning of the series. it was pretty clear from the start that this wasn't going to be the typical shounen manga like that.
in fact, expecting it to be is unrealistic. it's unrealistic in real life too, if i'm being so honest. everyone wants to think they'd take the moral high road in this type of situation, but the reality is, when you're fighting tooth and nail against an opponent that is fighting dirty, you have to fight dirty too if you want to win, and i think that's what yuuta is trying to point out in this chapter.
this happens in real life wars which im not gonna get into examples because i dont want to start that kind of discourse, but like...it's so great to be idealistic and hope that virtue will triumph simply because it is virtuous, but i think if you take a look around, you'll realize it's true that good people do not get what they deserve simply because they're good (that's so megumi of me to say...). or if you think of it like a board game, if a player is cheating, it is infinitely harder to win without cheating yourself.
maybe this is a bit pessimistic of me to say, but you will not win a dirty fight without getting dirty yourself, and i think it's pretty clear that sukuna fights dirty.
additionally, it's shitty to see gojo be weaponized, and i understand that, but it plays into the themes about strength in jjk, which i will get into.
III. This was not an "ass pull."
i don't really have much to say to this. did you think yuuta wouldn't take kenjaku's technique? plus, kenjaku being eaten by rika is probably the only surefire way to ensure that they're dead and won't just hop to another body. i've already said why gojo wouldn't come back, but it makes sense that if yuuta were to copy kenjaku's technique, who else would he body hop into, if not gojo? there's already narrative evidence to support this action, from the guidelines of yuuta's technique, kenjaku's technique, and gojo's technique, to the character of yuuta okkotsu, which i want to do an analysis in a separate post for him, so i won't get into that right now.
idk...to me, all the threads connect, plus i felt like yuuta's return was foreshadowed pretty heavily in 259 & 260, with the mention of yuuta's plan that yuuji couldn't know, and then on the last page of 260, the comparison of sukuna and yuuta, so for me, i always thought that it was not actually gojo, but yuuta at the end of 260.
IV. Themes of JJK: The burden of being "the strongest," or even just strong
even many jjk fans see gojo as "the strongest," and nothing more, doing exactly what the narrative sets up as one of the chief problems of jjk. a lot of gojo's actions are spurred on by the burden he feels from being the strongest modern sorcerer. his entire character is built around this problem of the responsibility and burden that falls on someone who's considered to be "the best" at anything.
in fact, this is also a driving point for geto too, and the conflicts geto and gojo come into with each other, as well as geto's inevitable fall from grace. it all comes from this issue that's at the core of jujutsu society. gojo recognizes that, and, as i mentioned, that is why he became a teacher. so that no young sorcerers will feel the burden of being the strongest alone.
the problem is this is easier said than done. after gojo dies, this burden gets passed down to yuuta, and he feels that immense pressure, which is why he decides to do what he does. he says "haven’t we been pushing the burden of being a monster onto gojo-sensei alone? if gojo-sensei is gone, then who else will be the monster? If no one intends to become one, then I will!" and i think this really powerful evidence of the pressure and burden of being the strongest, and i think the word monster is really important here. the burden pushes people to be something they're not, a shadow of their true self.
it distorts morality, like with geto. it isolates people, like with gojo. it forces people to go to unspeakable lengths to uphold their burden, like with yuuta. it leads people with immense power to doubt themselves, like with megumi. it leads people to feel like a cog in the machine, not a human, like with yuuji.
this is sooo so important and a key theme of jjk, and this chapter in particular, and the driving force behind yuuta's actions.
V. Themes in JJK: Loneliness and Isolation
this one has, in my opinion, a bigger role in the story overall than just in this chapter.
as i mentioned before, gojo is lonely. the only person who could understand him was geto, and he turned away from him, and then died. he seems like a silly guy or whatever, but it's just a mask.
but geto also felt alone and isolated, and that's why he turned away. between gojo and geto, neither of them were able to put share the burden of carrying their strength alone, and it's what kept them apart and made their relationship so tragic.
arguably, and though he would never admit it, sukuna is also lonely, though it's buried deep within him and something he will likely never acknowledge, despite it, and his lack of understanding of love (arguably a symptom of his loneliness), are major reasons for the way he acts.
yuuta, though supported by maki, inumaki, and panda in a way that the previously mentioned characters are not, is still isolated. he alone carries the burden of his strength. he was also alone his whole life after rika died, and then again when he was shipped off to africa, away from his friends (yeah he had miguel, maybe i'm missing something, but i dont see them having that type of relationship.
not only that, but yuuta recognizes gojo's loneliness, and reaches out to tell him not to try to stand by himself once again, and gojo admits that's something he can't do, the reason being his relationship with geto.
even further, yuuji and megumi, the parallel to satosugu, are both deeply lonely, except for when they have each other. i mentioned in this analysis that the reason megumi can't just get up and keep going is because he's alone and has been for over a month. i want to get into this more in my next point.
VI. Where I think (hope) this leads for JJK
a satisfying ending for jjk, in my opinion, would be the resolution to this loneliness and burden of strength issue that has been present throughout the narrative. something like yuuji being able to save megumi and them being able to correct what went wrong with satosugu in their own relationship.
personally would like to see satosugu reach the ending they should have had through the itafushi parallels - let them save each other! but i do know gege said only one of them (the trio + gojo) will die, or only one will live....that was years ago maybe he changed his mind :D
we all want to see yuuji take down sukuna himself, but i think it would be a great resolution to see everyone take down sukuna as a team. no one person is alone, no one person has the burden of the strongest. i know i said this wasn't a "power of friendship" manga, and i stand by that, but i think this would be the perfect ending. yuuta throws his humanity away to do what he did in 261 because he felt like it was the only choice and it was something he alone could do, but yuuji represents unwavering humanity (literally his name), and i think to preserve that, they all need to share that burden. let them realize they need each other.
this is what gojo died for, and this is what he lived for. this is why he became a teacher in the first place- to raise a generation that can be strong together, that can support one another.
VII. "It's poorly written torture porn!" "There's no point if there's no happy ending!" etc
i said this in a separate post but tragedies have existed in literature since the 6th century BCE, 2600 years ago. many of the most popular stories throughout history have been tragedies, for example, orpheus & eurydice, romeo & juliet, even things like the fault in our stars and the titanic movie. here's a quick explanation of what it means for a story to be a tragedy (yeah it's from wikipedia but they want me to pay to access the original source and im not doing that for a jjk analysis)
Tumblr media
one of things i like most about this definition is the use of the word "catharsis," which is to say that the expression of strong emotions is a way of bringing about renewal and relief. in literature, it's used to say that with the arousal and following release of negative emotions relieves suppressed emotions for the viewer. im not gonna get too personal with it, but i know i've experienced this with jjk.
additionally all of the aforementioned tragedies, they have a message, no matter how sad they are. orpheus & eurydice inspires perseverance and faith in the gods. even something like titanic has messages about everlasting love that overcomes all boundaries. jjk has its message too, and it's long underway. we just have to wait for it to reach its conclusion.
it's easy to lose sight of the bigger picture when we only get one chapter a week, and the fact that the pain is so dragged out is a bit tiring, i'll admit. but that doesn't mean it's bad. having negative emotions stirred by a story doesn't mean bad writing. i mean, i would hope you feel sad. i would hope you feel angry. i would be concerned if you didn't. but given that jjk is a tragedy, that just indicates good writing. especially these last two chapters, i've felt moved in a way nothing else has done for me in a long time.
as always, these are just my thoughts!!! im happy to hear from anyone what they think :D

Hi, everybody. I know it's been a minute. I’m—I'm weirdly nervous talking to you now. Now that I know that people are listening. Now that I know that people across infinite timelines are listening, it's a lot of pressure. I feel like I have a little inkling of what Jean Shepard would have felt getting on the radio every night, except I actually think I probably have more listeners than Jean, which yeah, I actually can't think about that very much or I will get even more nervous.
[static]
As an update because some of you have seemed curious— we’re doing good, I think. Not too much has changed since my last transmission. We're still where we were, although I think we're going to have to head down the mountain soon. The weather is changing and I don't think we want to be here when the snow comes. Well, when the snow really comes, there is already snow because we're that high up. But we can't survive a winter here, not with how thin these walls are. As for where we go next, I don't know. I know I probably won't be telling you. Not because I don't want you guys to know, but because. Well, you know, people may be listening and I don't want to invite any more trouble than I already am inclined to do, just living my life.
[static]
Harry and I are good for the most part. I mean, we've had a few blow up, knock down, drag out fights. Well, you know, a dozen, maybe. Nothing— nothing earth shattering, just the usual. Although now we have a a different mode of conflict resolution, by which I mean we actually make attempts at conflict resolution now and in a way that I think is very productive. Maybe not talking things out as much as we should, but I don't think either of us can complain. So. Yeah, we're. We're okay.
Not much else to report. Not much has changed. Haven't heard from Birdie or from Fox since that last big transmission, but I have been hearing from a lot of you. We spend most of our days sifting through all the different messages we get. Some of them are like this, and a lot of them are Morse code, which I don't think either of us were expecting necessarily. But it's nice to have somebody else with me to translate the Morse code.
One of you…one of you sent a morse code message asking if this was real. You said it was a cool project and that that threw me because does that mean that somehow you, whoever you were that send that message, you're back in the normal world and this was coming through on your normal radio and you thought, hey, maybe there's another Orson Welles joint or something of that kind. Does this sound like a story to you? Like I'm just an actor pretending to be somebody stuck somewhere. I—I’m glad that you thought it was cool. In any case, I don't know that I would categorize it that way because it's my life, but yeah.
Yeah, it’s real.

Lore Olympus Episode 261 Spoilers
I just *clenches fist* love how we're butchering the Homeric Hymn to Demeter even more just to prop up Hades.
So apparently Demophon and Triptolemus are one person now and his immortality is due to Hades using the power of accounting. Instead of due to Demeter's direct actions. Direct actions that not only saved the original Demphon's and Triptolemus' lives but also made them so grateful to her that they basically dedicated their adulthood to honoring Demeter and her gifts. Neat./s
Anything so RS can force Demeter into the steadily growing hxp fan club. Can't have even one character who isn't an antagonist not kiss the ground hxp walk on after all.
"This is weird."
Even Demeter herself thinks this is bullshit.
It's "weird" because it's completely unearned. On every front.
"He's a bit puny for a 12-year-old, but I guess that's the mortal side for you."
Hey guys, Hera's still racist! Isn't that funny? Laugh you sheep, LAUGH!
She also still doesn't feel any remorse for marrying her niece off to a groomer.
Oh gee golly gosh, yet another cliffhanger! Who'd have seen that coming?/s

i've been thinking about chapter 261 for a long time now and i'm still not sure how i feel. i've been comparing the feelings i've had from rewatching the prison realm episode to the 261 reveal and i think part of why i just don't feel as emotional is because geto was the last person to see gojo as his own person. the reason why it was so tragic to watch gojo hesitate in front of kenjaku IS because it was geto. the only people who could have seen gojo as more than a weapon is gone, and the other one has no choice in the matter because the only way she can help people is through RCT. it's honestly less tragic and more unsettling knowing that there wasn't really much of a choice. i hate what has happened but honestly narrative wise? i think my current opinion is that i can't be annoyed? i can't argue that gege evoked emotions out of me that i don't think i've felt from a manga before, in a very uncomfortable way

Headcanons for @chantillymoon
This was really fun to do! I am currently up to episode 261 of One Piece (Water 7) so please keep that in mind while reading. Because I haven't officially met Brook yet, all of my headcanons are based on what I've read in fanfics and a bit of research so hopefully I'm not too far off.
Platonic headcanons on the rest of the Straw Hat crew can be found here!
Fandom: One Piece
Characters: Brook and Usopp x gn! Reader (separate and platonic)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thoughts on being friends with the Straw Hat crew.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tumblr media
I see Brook as someone who’s always got a song stuck in his head. And he’s going to make it everyone’s problem. But is it really a problem when he actually has the voice for it? Yes. Yes, it is. Especially when you’re listening to him humming the same part of that one song for the tenth time that day.
At the same time, he’s great to have around if you’ve got a song stuck in your head. Brook knows so many songs that you’d be hard pressed finding one he couldn’t sing for you. And if he doesn’t know the song, he’s pretty good at picking up tunes quickly.
Have sore muscles? Those bony fingers are great for digging into twisted muscles and sore spots. Brook may have gone through a lot because of his Devil Fruit but he’s glad he can do something with it to help his friends.
He’s got a surprisingly good eye for fashion…if he had eyes! In all seriousness, please take him with you next time you need to go shopping for clothes. Between him and Nami, you’ll get back to the ship with a whole new wardrobe full of amazing clothes that suit you perfectly.
Whether you’re quiet or talkative, Brook loves just being in your presence. If you’re on the quiet side, he likes the tranquillity of sitting in companionable silence with someone. And if you’re talkative, he enjoys listening to everything you have to say.
Similarly, Brook’s great to talk to if you want to get anything off your chest. He’s a good listener and won’t spread around anything you’ve told him unless he thinks it could harm the crew (even then, he’d most likely keep it secret for a while). He also gives really good advice.
Brook missed out on a lot during his time in the Florian Triangle so he enjoys having a younger friend to help bring him up to speed. That being said, he’s an absolute menace with the way he mixes slag from his era with modern day sayings. Think something along the lines of “oh, they know their onions, they're no noob” and "ok you cad, time to catch these hands".
If you want to learn how to play an instrument or sing, Brook is more than happy to help. He’s had decades of practice and, even though he’s a bit rusty at explaining things to others, he’s patient and dedicated to teaching you.

Everyone has that one artist friend. And Usopp definitely falls into that category. He’s constantly got a sketchbook with him and will draw anything and everything. If you’re also into art, you’ll definitely bond over that.
Will absolutely hid behind you in battle. Whether you’re taller than him or not, he feels comfortable enough around you to chose you as his hiding spot.
Makes up stories about your bravado and wild adventures as well. While the other straw hats might react badly to Usopp telling stories about them, even if they are meant to improve their reputation, he hopes you will react differently.
In the same manner, Usopp would love to practice his pre-battle speeches with you and get some feedback. He’s a theatre kid at heart but he needs someone he trusts to work on his lines with. As one of his closest friends (and someone hopefully less judgmental than Nami), you fit that description.
He is also the perfect person to tell you stories about the other straw hats, especially if you joined later. He’s an entertainer and, even if he exaggerates his role in events, you’re able to piece together their adventures to date.
Much like Brook, Usopp has a good eye for fashion, but more from the perspective of figuring out what colours and patterns go together. If you’re struggling to put together an outfit, he’s more than happy to give you his two cents worth.
Gossip buddies! If you like gossip or have a way of knowing things about people, you, Usopp, and Nami are the designated “gossip squad” of the straw hats. Usopp is always a good source of information, even if he tends to embellish sometimes.
If you have long hair and don’t feel like tying it up, Usopp should be your first port of call. Sure, Sanji’s amazing with styling hair but he’s usually busy in the kitchen and Nami and Robin usually wear theirs down. Usopp has the free time and skills to help you out. Fair warning though, he may get carried away by his creative tendencies.

Daily Rise Quotes: DAY 261
Foot Lieutenant: Well, are you going to check it out?
Foot Brute: Sounds like a job for the guy who’s always telling the other guys he’s boss, but it’s clear that the other guy should be the boss, and that creates a lot of workplace tension. [Eats churro] ... Fine, I’ll go.
