Episode 237: Please Take Me Skiing

Hey, question for people who have read the manga. I’ve complained once or twice about anime titles that don’t follow the “lesson” format from the manga, but I haven’t actually read the manga since Viz stopped publishing it. Are there manga chapter titles that don’t follow the format, or am I right to complain when the anime slips up?

Anyway, in today’s episode, the Shinsengumi take Sho-chan on a ski trip.

Them setting that model on fire at the end of the cold open was one of those “God I love this anime!” moments that I truly treasure. It’s amazing. People who don’t watch Gintama are missing out.

I don’t remember if the last episode about Matsudaira and his daughter was before or after the last episode of Matsudaira being Sho-chan’s nanny, but this is another episode of Matsudaira being Sho-chan’s nanny. I really wish they would do more with Matsudaira than having him either being an overprotective dad or looking after the shogun. The episodes with him and his daughter are hilarious, but as I mentioned before, he’s a fun character and he feels underused. Granted, he’s also the type of character who could easily become overused, but I could say the same about Kondo and that hasn’t happened.

Next episode Our Heroes go searching for Sho-chan while he and Kondo manage to avoid freezing to death because their cartoons. Till next time.
