i think ladyhawke is also about how loneliness dehumanizes us. Like at this point in the curse, Navarre has become such a self reliant loner that he can barely hold a real conversation, all his awareness has been turned inward and his outward presentation suffers for it. It makes him seem wild and feral (especially when he grabs Marquet by the shoulders and, for lack of any WORDS to say about his betrayal and murder of one of Navarre's loyalists, just shakes him like a dog). Meanwhile Isabeau has held onto her socialization skills, but she's lost all of her own drive at the beginning of the film, content to stay on Navarre's arm and follow him for as long as she can, unable to see he's driving them both to suicide. they've both adopted the unthinking traits of their animal forms; respectively, the single-mindedness of the lone wolf and the blind loyalty of a trained bird.

Genuinely believe that Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint has something to say about reading a story alone and reading it with a community. Because you see this man who read stories just to survive, who found some form of happiness in his very lonely life reading a story alone. By being the only reader, he gained this strange perspective of exclusivity, where he could feel like these characters and this story really was made FOR him alone. A way he could be seen without being seen....which plays into ORV's subversion but still inclusion of the reader self insert trope.

And THEN, he gets isekaid and - while still being the only reader - gets to experience the story with both the characters made real and real people made characters. There's a bond that we all know that comes from experiencing a story together. He could finally have actual tangible people understand him and want to reach the story's end together...until the point that if it was the story keeping him with them, they never wanted the story to end.

HELP maybe this is influenced by how I'm writing this, or maybe it was supposed to be gleaned from canon and I just. Haven't fully thought about it til now. Haven't Deeply analyzed it beyond the blaring alarm bells that go off when reading this. But. Alfonse's,

Stepping out of Iowa’s minibus was a tall, lithe boy with scruffy brown hair. He rubbed his eyes before stretching like a dog awoken from a long nap, his teammates waiting impatiently on the steps behind him. Bryce could only assume that he’d just been asleep… and yet he looked so effortlessly good? His eyes matched the cerulean sea they’d passed as they entered Mountport. He had little black stud earrings. The May sunlight was highlighting the freckles dotted like a field of flowers across his face. He was… cute? Was that a thought he had now? That someone who isn’t Melissa - that a boy - is attractive? Huh. Interesting. After perhaps too long staring in the Iowan’s general direction, he parcelled up that idea and posted it to himself with the hope that it wouldn’t arrive until the tournament was done. You literally have a girlfriend, he repeated to himself, as he walked to the locker room.

It's either this or physically eat the pages and I'd like to not give myself indigestion from consuming paper

every so often i think about how writing communities emphasize that ur work doesnt have to be perfect and that u just have to enjoy it. and then i think about how we use the phrase word of god to describe the actions of published authors and artists, and how we put them on pedestals to the point where their art has to be perfect, and how eagerly we want to see them fall. and i think authors and artists maybe aren't gods, and maybe are just people, and that we would all enjoy reading and watching and taking in art more if we just remember the goal is that the creator enjoyed what they made.

There’s a writing workshop I go to every two months where we write short pieces and read them out. I think I’ve just come up with the most horrible, hilarious, devastating, embarrassing and bitterly hopeful story and I’m writing it right now, it’s making me emotional

I am actually weirdly looking forward to Riverstar’s super edition next year, despite disliking DotC era so much. Not for the story itself mind you, just because I am eager to mangle/harvest it for fanfic lore purposes. In the (still not guaranteed) event I finish this fic and the next installment, I actually do need to know more about Riverstar since I am making a lot of lore about his future reincarnation (I mean, it’s possible none of it will make it into the actual fic, but it’s still nice to know to guide how cats talk about him)

I read DotC so fast my memory is hazy but im p sure we easily know the least about him and I find him the least deplorable of the OG leaders (perhaps just because we know the least about him. It is a low low bar, I hate all of them so much). which might just mean he’s boring, but that could still be useful for how I want to characterize new future riverclan in this fic...

 I don’t tend to like super editions and kinda expect the book will be overly padded meandering fluff. Maybe they will also go backwards on his (comparatively) chill personality and make him stock-clan-cat-aggressive but I can work with that. I just want scraps to mold together.  I do wish that his book had released this year instead of Onestar’s like (I think) it was originally supposed to. It would be easier to have it now while i’m writing this background rather then having to wait until i’m (hopefully) on the second/third installment. but better next year then the year after ig
