tbh maybe im overthinking it, but it doesnt sit right by me that dungeon meshi declared "16" to be the Age of Maturity for tall-men"

but naggy" you say "its medieval times, of course theyd think 16 was adult age"and this is where i gotta stop you. cuz its basically a myth that ancient times decided (age) was the Mature Adult for people. because all of this is incredibly dependent on... gender.

"During the medieval era and the era of feudalism, in England the age of majority for males was 21 and for females 14 if married and 16 if single." but lets keep going.

"In the Greek cities, the adolescent, at 18 years old, has to do a military service called the ephebia. At the end of this formation, the young man, aged of 20 years old, comes back to his city. However, he has to continue his (intellectual) training until about his 30 years old. Generally, at this age, a man marries a young girl and becomes a respected adult." ... "Most young Greek women would be married at about the age of fourteen to a man roughly twice their age"

in ancient rome "The age of adulthood was 12 for girls, or 14 for boys."

so we can see pattern where women (girls, rly) are always declared adults much earlier than men, with different degrees of age gaps, of course. (granted my sources are all mostly wikipedia so im not trying to make a great detailed essay or anything lol)

but it brings me to my point that perpetuating the myth of "everyone was an adult at One Set Age" is not great. especially in a story as detailed as dungeon meshi. imo either you unflinchingly confront the misogynistic reality of social norms regarding age, or pick the highest age to avoid uncomfortable conversations (that you already tried to dodge ig but still brought it to the table by saying According to human maturity ur an adult at 16 which ok.)

im not here to say ryoko kui did anything intentionally malicious or anything ofc. mostly just observing how pervasive historical myths can be and how even fantasy can feed bias and erroneous information n all that

Dungeon Trash Squad

Today we had our last session of this campaign for the year. They have become...a very unusual party!

Va’Kym (he/him): at first a yuan-ti pureblood, Va’Kym became a malison just a few sessions in, with the snake head and everything. Plus he is also a graviturgist and, in this game, this is a school of magic he more or less invented himself. A pretty odd dude all things considered!

Kingston (he/him): a changeling (although the party ic still think he’s human) who became a werebat a while ago now. He can now turn into a giant bat, or a hybrid form, as he so desires. 

Phoebe (she/her): as of today, our lovely half-drow hexblade has a fiery breath weapon and draconic tail. 

Bart’leh (he/him): our drow necromancer has not changed at all since the start of the campaign, besides accumulating a few more shiny bits of jewelry and a vast hoard of zombies. So the necromancer is the most normal dude in this party, that...says a lot!

Pablo e il mare è il progetto artistico di Paolo Antonelli, cantautore torinese.

Respiro (Libellula/audioglobe 2015) è il suo terzo, bellissimo disco.

Biografia

Le canzoni di Pablo e il mare prendono il largo nel 2002.

Le prime tappe vedono Pablo e il mare protagonista di rassegne e concorsi: Colonia Sonora a Torino, Sconcerti a Milano e Aritmia Mediterranea a Molfetta (BA).

Nel 2004, al termine di una lunga nottata milanese, Pablo si aggiudica la finale nazionale della XVII edizione di Rock Targato Italia.

Nel 2006 pubblica Onde, il suo disco d’esordio, legato al clip di All’alba diretto da Tak Kuroha.

Il disco è ben accolto dalla stampa specializzata e sessanta concerti fanno conoscere Pablo e il mare all’Italia del rock indipendente.

Il nuovo corso

Nel 2008 la band ferma l’attività e cerca una nuova identità.

Il 2009 è l’inizio del nuovo corso: Pablo e il mare si presenta in trio acustico e vena d’autore intima, adatta tanto al palco tradizionale quanto a situazioni informali come reading, rassegne d’autore, ecc.

Nel 2009 rappresenta l’Italia sul palco del Kranfest, in Slovenia.

Nell’estate del 2010 Pablo figura nel cast di Spaziale/Emersione.

Il 25 aprile 2011 Pablo e il mare è tra i protagonisti della Festa di Liberazione sul grande palco di Piazza San Carlo, insieme a Subsonica, Niccolò Fabi e Gianmaria Testa.

Miramòr

Miramòr è il titolo del secondo album, alla cui pubblicazione seguono sessanta date, da Aosta a Catanzaro.

Nel 2014 la band si arricchisce del violino di Francesco Coppotelli e del contrabbasso di Fabrizio Cerutti. Nel 2015 pubblica per LIbellula Respiro, prima scelta su Rumore, Blowup, Rockerilla, Ephebia.

Tortuga è il clip diretto da Fabrizio Vacca, vincitore dei premi americani TOFF e TMFF e menzione speciale al Tagliacorti si Trieste.

Cinzano Life propone una serie di serate imperdibili, che vedono protagonista la musica dal vivo.

Cosmo: ecco il tour del cantautore più dance di sempre...

Il tour di Cosmo è cominciato ad aprile, in sordina, mentre il disco piano piano si faceva strada e dopo il pubblico appassionato della scena indie è riuscito a conquistare anche quello delle radio mainstream che si sono appassionate a “L’ultima festa” rendendola una delle canzoni più ascoltate, ballate e cantate della scorsa estate.

Dopo più di novanta date e un numero sorprendente di sold out, questo incredibile tour si conclude con tre concerti speciali a Roma, Milano e Ivrea a cui seguirà una pausa dall’attività live che condurrà Cosmo verso la lavorazione di un nuovo disco.

Trascinato dal passaparola, lo show di Cosmo è diventato mese dopo mese uno dei più apprezzati e vissuti dal pubblico italiano. Come in una vera festa il coinvolgimento del pubblico è essenziale come quello dei musicisti sul palco: le distanze si annullano, i corpi si sfiorano, i generi non contano niente. È un concerto, ma è tutto da ballare. Ci sono delle canzoni, belle, con bei testi e belle melodie, e c’è la cassa dritta, i bassi che pulsano e le luci che fanno girare la testa. Mondi distanti che finiscono per diventare una cosa unica. Diversa. È pop, ma con il cuore nella club culture. È Cosmo.Una cosa che prima non c’era e ora c’è. Una vera e propria anomalia nel sistema della musica italiana.

Trash Squad

Phoebe almost died today. =0 My heart was pounding! I’ve never actually had a player character death as DM. 

The party went up against Muiral, the scorpion-dude spellcaster who is also an absolute tank. As they were (understandably!) fleeing, Phoebe and Va’kym were lined up so nicely that it only made sense to have him launch a sixth-level lightning bolt through them both. 

At that stage Phoebe had vulnerability to all damage, and reduced max hp, and if she’d taken six more damage she would have died outright. Scary stuff!

The party managed to dimension door out of there in pairs and then use the warlock’s magic ‘there’s no place like home!’ item to return to Skullport, but still. So close- it was scary stuff!

Trash Squad update! Phoebe was killed yesterday in a fight with a mecha-dragon. The party has no healers (save Phoebe herself, who is a warlock 9/cleric 2), but they did have some magic Dust of Reincarnation. And so, Phoebe was reincarnated as a moon elf.

She also has golden streaks in her hair, and lots of freckles. The player determined what she looks like besides 'Phoebe is now a moon elf', and I'm love. <3

My Trash Squad hit level 10 today! Which was perfect timing, as Phoebe’s roleplayer had been planning to multiclass into cleric, and today she had the loveliest little attempt at a communion with Eilistraee, the deity she has been following ever since she peeked at some forbidden tomes in her stronghold’s library. 

Phoebe told Eilistraee that she wants to spread the deity’s light to those in need- and then specified that she especially hoped to bring it to her sort-of-aunt Gret’cha, whom she had just talked down from kidnapping Bart and taking him back to his horrible, controlling ex. It was really nice. <3 

She ended up giving Gret’cha her book about Eilistraee, saying that she’s read it like four or five times and hopes Gret’cha will like it too.  

(As of next session Phoebe will be a hexblade warlock 9/twilight cleric 1. Everyone else is level 10 and has not multiclassed.)

Had a chat with my friend today! We talked about her warlock Phoebe’s upcoming cleric multiclass- she should be there in two or so sessions, very exciting!! As her DM, I’m excited to tease at this in-game and build up to...the party finally having some capabilities, like, at all. xD

She’s going to attempt to commune with Elistraee next session and, while she admitted she understands it probably won’t work, I want her to get something out of it. Maybe the goddess will send someone to Phoebe, or maybe someone else nearby who also heard the hunting horn last session will become aware of this attempted communion and seek Phoebe out...I dunno. I’ll sort something!

We also talked about Astrophelle, this friend being Astro’s DM as well. I’ve been wanting to swap out my Grappler feat for a while, and I finally asked if I could swap it for Chef. This was permitted, so now Astro can make nice healing tea for her friends, hooray! 

It also gave her an extra point of wisdom, bringing her modifier to +2. So now she has +2 WIS, +1 INT while her brother has +2 INT, +1 WIS. Is kind of cool how that worked out!

Trash Squad

I have a Trash Squad session tomorrow. The party have split and are on completely different floors of Undermountain thanks to Magic Teleporting Gates...with one wizard and one warlock in each location (Va’kym and Kingston are in the More Dangerous, Jumping Ahead, spot; and Phoebe and Bart are in the Actually Balanced For Their Level spot.) 

Phoebe and Bart I haven’t done too much prep for, because that’s relatively easy- they helped duergar mercenaries defeat a magic statue, but then the half of the party who Jumped Ahead stole an important magic dagger from the duergar leader, so. Should be a fairly tense, potentially hostile situation. If they can defuse that, the tiefling druid travelling with the mercenaries has promised to translate a Celestial text the party’s hexblade is carrying. Potentially cool stuff there! 

And if all else fails and I don’t know what to do, I can have umber hulks burst through the wall and throw them back into combat. =P

I’m very excited for Va’kym and Kingston’s adventures, as they’re going to meet Phoebe’s mum! Valyrissa and four other drow are out to kill a mad wizard’s mutated experiments (who were formerly people they knew, so sadface if Phoebe does end up joining this group!) I checked the balance and it should be a fair challenge for the drow team + two party members. If the whole party end up taking part it might be a bit too easy, but I’ll just tack an extra encounter onto the end if that happens.

Dungeon Trash Squad

Figured I’d give an update on where these terrible children are at after their first ten or so sessions. 

Va’kym (yuan-ti wizard, graviturgist): killed a yuan-ti leader so that the Nightmare Speaker would in return help Va’kym become a yuan-ti malison type one (he was formerly a pureblood.) Va’kym’s rper ordered a custom mini based on this new form, which I’m so excited to see! Va’kym can also now turn into a giant snake.

Kingston (changeling warlock, archfey): asked a werebat to infect him this past session. He is unsurprisingly now a werebat. At first his bat form was tiny so, while annoyed at the warlock, Bart grabbed him and yeeted him through a portal. He made a goblin friend on the other side, who Bart somehow hated even more, ultimately fireballing the poor dude. 

Phoebe (half-drow warlock, hexblade): her hexblade is now a flametongue. She is. Devastating in combat. But also super sweet without, today she danced with a sweet earth genasi lady called Rosaline, and promised she will come back to visit her again. Even as, at the same time, Kingston was off trying to get bitten by a werebat and Bart and Va’kym were standing around offering commentary and taking notes. 

Bart (drow wizard, necromancer): with his two loyal zombie companions, Rob and some guy the party were too slow saving from a fiend, Bart is ready for adventure! Or so he’d like you to think. He’s not had a great time lately but hey, at least he’s still Phoebe’s favourite, and that’s something.
